Candyland Romance

elcome to the Spring/Summer 2026 issue of I DO Bridal Magazine. There is just something about spring turning into summer that makes romance feel impossible to ignore. Maybe it is the longer days, the softer colours, the flowers everywhere, or that feeling that everything suddenly seems lighter, brighter, and a little more exciting. Whatever it is, this season always feels like the perfect backdrop for love — and that energy inspired this issue’s theme, Candyland Romance.

For us, Candyland Romance is not about going full fairytale or overloading on sweetness. It is about a new kind of romance, soft, playful, stylish, and full of personality. Think dreamy pastels, fresh florals, glowing beauty, statement fashion, and those little details that feel fun without losing the elegance. It is the kind of bridal mood that feels modern and expressive, but still timeless in all the right ways.

Because weddings right now are changing in the best possible way. Couples are moving away from the pressure of doing things exactly as expected and leaning into celebrations that actually feel like them. More personality, more meaning, more style, more joy. And honestly, we are here for it. The best weddings are not about being perfect. They are about creating a moment, a feeling, and a day that people remember because it felt real.

That spirit runs through every page of this issue. We wanted it to feel inspiring, beautiful, and exciting, the kind of issue you flip through and instantly start saving ideas from. Soft but fashion-forward. Romantic but never boring. Sweet, but still seriously chic.

At the end of the day, that is what this issue is really about: celebrating love in a way that feels fresh, fun, and completely personal. The kind of love story that is not about following a formula, but about creating something unforgettable in your own way.

To our readers, couples, contributors, and creatives, thank you for continuing to make I DO Bridal Magazine a place where style, inspiration, and love stories come together so beautifully. We are so excited to share this issue with you and hope it leaves you feeling inspired for the season ahead.

Because really, love should look like joy. With love,

Wedding Chaos

HOW TO STAY SANE WHEN NOTHING GOES TO PLAN

There is always a moment. There’s always a moment when things don’t unfold as expected. Uninvited clouds often arrive unexpectedly. The bouquet may appear slightly different from the Pinterest board you’ve been studying for months. Wedding chaos doesn’t arrive politely; it just happens. And yet, it is often these very interruptions that transform a beautiful day into an unforgettable one.

Perfection may photograph well, but personality is what lingers.

THE MYTH OF THE FLAWLESS WEDDING

We’ve been conditioned to believe that a successful wedding is a seamless one. Timelines are meticulously executed. Hair unmoved by wind. Guests perfectly punctual. But weddings are not controlled studio environments; they are live events filled with emotion, movement, and dozens of independent variables.

The truth? Something will go off-plan. And that’s not a failure; it’s reality.

When couples release the pressure of perfection, the entire atmosphere softens. A gust of wind lifting your veil becomes cinematic. A brief delay becomes extra time for champagne and laughter. The day begins to breathe.

CALM IS YOUR MOST POWERFUL ACCESSORY

When a hiccup happens, guests instinctively look to the couple. Your reaction sets the tone. A calm smile communicates confidence. A light laugh dissolves tension.

This doesn’t mean ignoring genuine issues. It means recognising that most wedding-day “emergencies” are temporary inconveniences rather than true crises. A slightly late ceremony will not dilute your vows. A smudged lipstick can be retouched. Perspective is everything. Choosing composure is not about suppressing emotion; it is about protecting joy.

BUILD A BUFFER, NOT A BREAKDOWN

Timelines are essential, but rigidity is risky. The most elegant weddings allow for breathing space. Hair and makeup often run longer than expected. Family members need wrangling. Transport may hit traffic.

Adding intentional buffer time even 30 minutes between key moments preserves calm. It prevents rushing, and rushing is the fastest way to elevate stress levels.

A well-paced morning translates into a radiant afternoon.

DELEGATE LIKE A BRIDE WHO MEANS BUSINESS

Not every issue needs your attention. Appoint one trusted person a planner, a sibling, a composed friend to handle logistics quietly behind the scenes.

Before the day starts, establish a clear rule: if someone can solve the problem without your involvement, they should do so. Delegation is not detachment. It is strategy. Your role is to experience the day, not manage it.

THE 10-MINUTE RESET RULE

At some point, the reception will swell. Music rises. Guests surround you. Emotions peak. It can feel overwhelming, even in the most joyful way.

Plan a short, private pause with your partner. Step away. Breathe. Take in the room you created together. That reset often becomes one of the most treasured memories, a quiet moment amid celebration.

It recentres the day around what truly matters.

REDEFINE “DISASTER”

Rain can create dramatic, romantic photographs. A power cut can lead to candlelit intimacy. An off-script speech may become a legendary family anecdote.

Guests rarely remember whether the napkins matched perfectly. They remember how the room felt. They remember laughter. They remember authenticity.

Sometimes, what appears chaotic in the moment becomes iconic in retrospect.

PROTECT WHAT TRULY MATTERS

Before the wedding arrives, decide on two or three non-negotiables, the elements that carry emotional weight. Perhaps it’s a particular piece of music, golden-hour portraits, or having someone special in the front row.

When those priorities are clear, smaller details lose their power to derail you.

Flexibility is not lowering standards. It is safeguarding your experience.

Weddings are not performances to be executed flawlessly. They are celebrations unfolding in real time, layered, emotional, beautifully imperfect.

If something doesn’t go as planned, remember to remain calm. Smile at your partner. Let the moment exist as it is. Sometimes, the most extraordinary memories are those that you never planned for.

bride

FRANCESCA PETRA CARUANA

–THE BRIDE BRINGING QUIET LUXURY ENERGY

ome people do not need to be loud to leave an impression.

Meet our S

FRANCESCA PETRA CARUANA is one of them. As the bride in our spring/summert shoot, Francesca brings a kind of elegance that feels modern, romantic, and completely effortless. There is a softness to her, but also a confidence that gives every image real presence. The result is bridal style that feels less overly theatrical and more timeless in the best way.

Off camera, Francesca’s world is just as interesting. Alongside modelling, she works as a lecturer and accountant, bringing together creativity, structure, and precision in a way that feels surprisingly perfect for her. She is thoughtful, composed, and intentional, which probably explains why she photographs with so much depth.

“Modelling became less about posing and more about presence.”

A QUIET START

Francesca’s entry into modelling was not dramatic. It began as what she describes as a quiet discovery, when Marisa Grima and Valentina Lupo recognised something in her before she had fully recognised it in herself.

Her first shoots with First Magazine and FM Magazine introduced her to the rhythm of the industry the lights, the atmosphere, and the connection between model and camera.

“There was the stillness before the shot, the unspoken dialogue with the camera.”

That early experience shaped the way she still approaches modelling now: with emotion, awareness, and intention.

HER STYLE IN THREE WORDS

Ask Francesca to sum up her style and she does it in three words: refined, feminine, intentional.

It fits instantly. Her style feels polished without being overworked, elegant without losing warmth. And if there is one piece she always comes back to, it is a sharp tailored blazer.

“It carries a quiet authority.”

Which, honestly, feels like the perfect description of her overall energy too.

MORE THAN A PRETTY PICTURE

One of the things that makes Francesca stand out is the contrast she carries so naturally. While modelling often gets associated with softness and surface, Francesca is quick to point out the more analytical side of who she is.

“Behind the visual softness often associated with modelling, there is a deeply structured and analytical side to me.”

That balance is part of what makes her so compelling. She moves

easily between fashion and more traditional professional roles, proving that femininity, intelligence, and strength all belong in the same conversation.

DRAWN TO STORYTELLING

For Francesca, the most exciting shoots are the ones that feel like they have something to say. It is why editorial and bridal are the styles she connects with most.

“Both allow for depth a narrative, a mood, an emotion that goes beyond the surface and lingers.”

That is also what makes her such a natural fit for bridal. She does not just wear the look she steps into the story.

THE MOMENT SHE STILL REMEMBERS

When asked about her most memorable modelling experience, Francesca goes straight back to her first-ever shoot: the cover of FM Magazine.

Not because it was flawless, but because it was real.

“It wasn’t perfect at all and that’s exactly what made it unforgettable.”

There was vulnerability in that moment, and for Francesca, that honesty is what made it special.

DREAM LOCATIONS AND BIG AMBITIONS

Francesca is drawn to places that feel cinematic Paris, the Amalfi Coast, anywhere with light, history, and atmosphere. For her, location matters because it shapes the mood of the image.

And if she could model for any publication in the world, the answer is simple: Vogue.

“It represents more than fashion, it captures how we feel and evolve.”

THE BRIDE WE’LL REMEMBER

What Francesca brings to this shoot goes beyond beauty. She brings presence, feeling, and a kind of understated confidence that lingers long after the photo has been taken.

As our bride, she embodies everything this editorial is about: romance, grace, and quiet strength.

EMeet our

groom

JAMES CASELLI –THE GROOM BRINGING CHARM, CONFIDENCE AND A SENSE OF FUN

very great bridal editorial needs a groom who can bring more than just a good suit. JAMES CASELLI brings the full package: charm, confidence, creativity, and just the right amount of mischief. As the groom in our shoot, James has that easy presence that makes everything feel more relaxed. He looks completely at home in front of the camera, but his creative background actually began behind it. A video producer by profession, James is used to working with visuals, storytelling, and the rhythm of a set just usually from the other side of the lens.

“The trick is honestly to just put yourself out there.”

FROM CREATIVE WORK TO CAMERA CONFIDENCE

James did not get into modelling through some grand plan. It happened naturally over time.

After living in Malta for the past 12 years, he built connections through his studies, work, and creative projects, moving within circles where film, TV, advertising, and modelling often overlap. He started applying for opportunities, got picked for a few, and the rest followed from there.

“Once someone’s seen you or heard your name, and you’ve proven to be punctual and professional with your work, you will go places.”

It is that grounded attitude that makes his story work so well. Nothing overly polished, nothing try-hard just openness, consistency, and a willingness to give things a go.

HIS STYLE IN THREE WORDS

When asked to describe his personal style, James keeps it simple: confident, genuine, and lighthearted.

That feels exactly right. His style is classic without feeling stiff, polished without looking too serious. And if there is one item he swears by, it is a good blazer.

“When you find the right one, it can’t live without you.”

CREATIVE, CURIOUS, AND A LITTLE BIT GEEKY

Although modelling is something he does on the side, creativity runs through pretty much everything James does.

His main role as a video producer for a marketing company means he is always thinking visually how things are framed, how stories come together, how a shoot flows. That naturally carries into the way he approaches modelling too. He notices details. He watches the process. He pays attention.

“Every project with new people unveils new processes, new ways of working and thinking that give me insight and can inspire my own work.”

YES, HE’S ITALIAN

One thing people often do not expect?

“I’m Italian. No, I’m not joking. We can have blond hair and blue eyes too!” Honestly, that one stays in.

HIS MOST MEMORABLE SHOOT INVOLVED LOOSE SPEEDOS

When asked for his most unforgettable modelling moment, James

skipped the polished answer and gave us the real one.

Picture a seaside party shoot, women in bikinis, James in the middle wearing very loose speedos, and then everyone being told to dance. Not exactly subtle. “It was… an interesting experience, to say the least.”

THE MORE UNEXPECTED, THE BETTER

James is not precious about modelling. In fact, he likes it more when things get a little weird.“Honestly, the crazier the better.”

That openness gives him an edge. He is not interested in looking overly serious or performing perfection. He wants the energy to feel fun, fresh, and alive and that comes through in the way he works.

A PRACTICAL TAKE ON GREAT PHOTOS

James has a refreshingly straightforward view when it comes to what makes a good image.

“What are the photos supposed to convey? If I manage to hit that target, it’s really all that matters.”

That answer makes perfect sense coming from someone who understands visual storytelling from both sides. For him, it is not about ego. It is about purpose.

WHY THIS SHOOT FELT

DIFFERENT

Asked what excites him most about being featured in this bridal editorial, James gave an answer that instantly won us over:

“I’ve never been married, so I’m looking forward to the practice!”

Cheeky, self-aware, and exactly the kind of energy that made him such a strong fit for this shoot. Bridal fashion can sometimes lean very serious, so having a groom who brings humour and lightness to the experience makes all the difference.

HIS IDEAL DAY OFF? NO PLAN AT ALL

James’s version of a perfect day off is beautifully simple: good weather, no alarm, no commitments, and total freedom.“The world is your oyster.”

CLASSIC TAILORING, ALWAYS

If he could model for any brand or publication, James says he would be open to plenty but if he had to choose, he would lean towards something classic, tailored, and timeless.

“Think Turnbull & Asser or Thom Sweeney.” Which, honestly, checks out.

THE GROOM WHO MADE IT FEEL EFFORTLESS

What makes James memorable in this shoot is not just the way he looks on camera. It is the energy he brings to it.

He is creative, observant, funny, stylish, and never trying too hard. One minute he is talking about lenses and visual storytelling, the next he is joking about speedos or marriage practice. That mix of charm and selfawareness is exactly what makes him work so well in a bridal setting.

As our groom, James brought polish without pretence and that is exactly why he stands out.

THE NEW ERA OF BRIDESMAIDS

Style, Shape $ Individuality

There was a time when being a bridesmaid meant one thing: matching. Identical dresses, identical shoes, identical silhouettes, regardless of shape or personal style. It was cohesive, yes, but it wasn’t always kind. Today, that narrative has shifted.

The modern bridal party is stepping into a new era defined by individuality, thoughtful styling, and fashion that feels considered rather than compulsory. Bridesmaids are no longer background figures in a uniform palette. They are part of the aesthetic story.

The result? Weddings that feel more editorial, more effortless, and far more flattering.

To understand this shift, we spoke to the founder of So Ellie, a boutique known for its effortless, feminine, and timeless approach to occasion wear. Originally rooted in bohemian resort wear, the brand naturally evolved into bridesmaid dresses after identifying a market gap.

“Women didn’t just want to be fitted into a dress,” she explains. “They wanted to feel beautiful in it.”

MOVING BEYOND MATCHY-MATCHY

Uniformity has been replaced with cohesion. Instead of one dress for everyone, brides are choosing shared palettes expressed through different cuts, fabrics, and silhouettes. The effect is softer, more modern, and infinitely more wearable.

“Many brides now prefer a more natural,

elegant look,” she says. “Different styles in the same colour palette allow each person to feel comfortable while still looking cohesive.”

STYLE THAT FEELS EDITORIAL

The fashion-forward bridesmaid has arrived. Satin slips, one-shoulder silhouettes, soft draping, and even tailored suits are redefining bridal parties. At the same time, practicality is becoming just as important as aesthetics.

“Soft, flowing fabrics and mix-and-match styles are very popular,” she notes. “There’s also a move towards dresses that can be worn again, making them more sustainable.”

The result feels less like a lineup and more like a styled ensemble.

SHAPE MATTERS

One of the biggest shifts is the focus on real bodies.

“Flexibility is key,” she explains. “Instead of

one style for everyone, it’s about allowing different cuts that suit each person. The goal is for every bridesmaid to feel like the best version of herself.”

Versatile designs, such as multiway dresses, have become a popular choice, providing various styling options to accommodate different body shapes. Satin silhouettes and softly structured styles also continue to lead, balancing elegance with comfort.

She emphasises that comfort is essential. “When a dress feels right, it naturally looks better too.”

COLOUR AS THE THREAD

Colour is now what ties everything together. For spring and summer, soft tones like sage green, blush, champagne, and rose gold dominate. Lightweight fabrics and flowing silhouettes enhance both movement and comfort.

The key is restraint. A refined palette keeps the overall look elevated, even when styles vary.

CONFIDENCE IS THE DRESS CODE

The most beautiful bridal parties share one thing: confidence.

“When a woman finds the right dress, you can see her confidence instantly change,” she says. “It’s not just about how she looks but also how she feels.”

And that’s the essence of this new era. Weddings today are about authenticity. Matching is no longer mandatory; meaningfulness is. By embracing style, shape, and individuality, bridal parties feel less like a uniform and more like a reflection of real relationships.

The result is not just beautiful. It’s unforgettable.

Meet our

bridesmaids

OXANA GRITSUN –THE BRIDESMAID BRINGING ELEGANCE, CONFIDENCE, AND MODERN ROMANCE

Some people naturally bring energy to a room without needing to demand attention, and Oxana Gritsun does exactly that. As one of the bridesmaids in our spring/summer editorial, Oxana brings elegance, confidence, and warmth to every shot, creating a presence that feels both polished and effortless.

Outside of modelling, Oxana works as an events coordinator and property manager, with much of her life connected to tourism and hospitality. She loves travelling, meeting inspiring people, and embracing new experiences, something that naturally carries into her creative work.

“Every photoshoot feels like becoming a different character.”

Oxana’s journey into modelling began unexpectedly when a close friend gifted her a professional photoshoot. What started as a thoughtful surprise quickly became a passion, eventually leading her to join a modelling agency in April 2025.

Since then, she has worked on campaigns for local jewellery brands and hotels, appeared in both Maltese and international productions, walked for designers, and recently joined the Miss Malta organisation representing Gżira.

Describing her style as refined, elegant, and expressive, Oxana gravitates toward timeless fashion with personality, especially unique, standout bags.

One of her favourite aspects of modelling is the creativity behind each shoot, from the atmosphere and styling to the collaboration among creative teams.

“It’s always special when creativity, emotion, and atmosphere all come together naturally.”

If she could shoot anywhere in the world, her dream locations would be Iceland or Finland, capturing fashion and bridal imagery surrounded by nature and the Northern Lights.

With her confidence, elegance, and modern femininity, Oxana perfectly captures the spirit of today’s bridesmaid: stylish, expressive, and unforgettable.

MARY MAUHOURAT –THE BRIDESMAID BRINGING ELEGANCE, ENERGY, AND EFFORTLESS STYLE

Some people naturally light up every room they walk into, and Mary Mauhourat does exactly that. As one of the bridesmaids in our spring/summer editorial, Mary brings elegance, confidence, and warmth to every shot, creating moments that feel both modern and effortless.

Mary’s modelling journey began organically through participating in Miss Malta, which quickly grew into a passion for fashion, creativity, and self-expression.

“Modelling became a way to express different sides of myself creatively.”

Outside of modelling, Mary holds a master’s degree in international business management and works on projects focused on light elements. She also enjoys sports, beach days, and spending time with friends.

Describing her style as charismatic, elegant, and versatile, Mary loves timeless fashion pieces, especially a perfectly tailored blazer.

One of her favourite parts of modelling is collaborating with creative teams and seeing how each shoot tells an entirely different story.

“Every experience teaches me something new.”

One thing many people are surprised to learn is that, despite speaking fluent Maltese, Mary is actually a native French speaker, which reflects her adaptable and versatile personality.

One of her favourite modelling experiences so far has been taking part in this I DO bridal editorial shoot.

“I loved representing a bridesmaid and sharing such a joyful moment with the other models.”

With her confidence, warmth, and effortless elegance, Mary perfectly captures the spirit of the modern bridesmaid: stylish, supportive, expressive, and unforgettable.

The soft girl bride ROMANTIC MAKEUP TRENDS TAKING OVER 2026

Blush-toned cheeks, luminous skin, and that “I woke up like this” glow… The soft girl bride has officially entered the aisle. Gone are the days of heavy contour and full coverage. In 2026, bridal makeup is softer, more romantic, and unapologetically you. Think diffused edges, petal-soft lips, and radiant skin that feels effortless yet elevated.

It’s main character energy… but make it bridal.

Inspired by TikTok beauty trends and a shift towards authenticity, this look is all about enhancing natural features rather than masking them. The result? Timeless, modern, and beautifully personal.

We sat down with makeup artist MICHAELA BUTTIGIEG to talk all things soft glam, wearable trends, and how to create a bridal look that feels as stunning as it looks.

ARE BRIDES MOVING AWAY FROM HEAVY MAKEUP?

Yes, there’s definitely a shift. Brides are moving away from full coverage and heavy contour and leaning into lighter, more skinled looks instead. It’s less about coverage and more about texture, tone, and luminosity. Modern glam hasn’t disappeared; it’s simply softer, more blended, and focused on enhancing rather than concealing.

What defines the “soft girl bride” look? Effortless beauty with a romantic touch. Think luminous skin, softly sculpted features, diffused eyes, and delicate lashes. Lips stay soft in rose or petal tones. The result is modern, timeless, and quietly luxurious.

SOFT GLAM VS. FULL GLAM: WHAT ARE BRIDES CHOOSING?

In 2026, it’s not about choosing one. Brides are customising their look, enhancing certain features, such as the eyes or lips, depending on

the moment. The focus is on balance and how makeup translates from daylight to photography.

WHAT TRENDS ARE ACTUALLY WEARABLE FOR WEDDINGS?

It’s really about longevity. Instead of trying to incorporate every trend, brides are focusing on one or two elements, like fresh skin or soft eyes, which keeps the overall look effortless and wearable.

HOW DO YOU TAILOR SOFT GLAM TO DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES?

It’s all about finishing and balance. Hydrated, luminous bases are designed for dry skin, while lightweight, long-wear formulas cater to oily skin, and a tailored approach is provided for combination skin. The look stays the same, only the finish adapts.

WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO TECHNIQUE FOR THAT GLOW?

Honestly, it comes down to skin prep. When the skin is properly hydrated, you don’t need to overdo anything. I stick to sheer layers, cream textures, and just a bit of glow in the right places so it feels natural.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE TRIAL?

So important. It builds trust, reduces stress, and ensures everything is ready before the big day. It also allows for testing products and refining the look for both real life and photos.

HOW DOES SOFT GLAM TRANSLATE ON CAMERA?

In real life, it’s fresh and breathable. On camera, it can appear softer, so subtle layering helps maintain definition while keeping that airy, romantic feel.

WHAT ARE YOUR MUST-HAVE PRODUCTS?

Hydrating skincare, lightweight foundation, creamy textures, and soft-toned palettes.

Everything should blend seamlessly and enhance natural beauty rather than mask it.

HOW DO YOU KEEP IT FRESH ALL DAY?

Thin, buildable layers, strategic powdering, and setting spray. A few touch-up essentials like blotting papers and lip products help maintain the look.

WHAT’S THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE BRIDES MAKE?

Asking for “natural” without clarity. Soft glam is still intentional; without structure, features can get lost, especially on camera.

FINAL THOUGHT

Because in 2026, bridal beauty isn’t about transforming into someone else… it’s about becoming the softest, most radiant version of yourself.

BEAUTIFUL BARS, SIGNATURE COCKTAILS. UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

The Wedding Breakfast, Reinvented

BECAUSE THE FIRST MEAL AS NEWLYWEDS DESERVES MORE THAN A STANDARD SIT-DOWN AFFAIR

Once upon a time, the wedding breakfast followed a fairly predictable formula: starter, main, dessert, speeches somewhere in between, and a room full of guests politely waiting for the real party to begin. It was formal, familiar, and for many couples, simply what you did. Now, not so much.

Today’s couples are rethinking the wedding breakfast entirely, turning it into an experience that feels more personal, more stylish, and far more reflective of how they actually want their day to unfold. The focus has shifted from tradition for tradition’s sake to food that creates atmosphere, sparks conversation, and feels genuinely enjoyable from the very first bite.

And honestly, it is about time.

IT IS NOT JUST A MEAL ANYMORE

The modern wedding breakfast is no longer just the practical pause between vows and dancing. It has become a central part of the celebration’s personality.

For spring and summer weddings especially, couples are embracing menus that feel lighter, fresher, and more in tune with the mood of the day. Think long, sunlit tables, seasonal ingredients, beautifully styled sharing dishes, and drinks that feel like part of the occasion rather than an afterthought.

It is less about formality and more about flow.

Guests do not want to feel like they have been seated for hours at a function. They want to feel part of something warm, generous, and full of life. The best wedding breakfasts now create that exact mood, relaxed enough to feel natural, but elevated enough to still feel undeniably special.

SHARING MENUS ARE HAVING A MOMENT

One of the biggest changes in the wedding breakfast is the move towards sharing-style dining.

There is something instantly more inviting about platters placed in the centre of the table, with guests helping themselves to beautifully presented dishes that encourage conversation and connection. It feels generous, a little more modern, and far less rigid than the classic plated three-course format.

For spring weddings, this might mean burrata with tomatoes and basil, colourful salads, fresh breads, grilled vegetables, and elegant fish or pasta dishes made for passing around. For summer, it could lean into Mediterranean flavours, seafood, citrus-led sides, and sunsoaked dishes that feel relaxed but luxurious.

It is food with movement, and that matters. A wedding breakfast should not feel static. It should feel alive.

PLATED DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN PREDICTABLE

Of course, sharing menus are not the only way to modernise the experience. A plated meal can still feel contemporary, exciting, and beautifully done it just needs a little more imagination.

Couples are stepping away from heavy, overly traditional menus and choosing dishes that feel refined without being fussy. Seasonal starters, fresh mains, vibrant ingredients, and desserts that feel elegant rather than overly formal are all part of the shift.

The goal is simple: serve food people are actually excited to eat. A perfectly executed menu does not need to be complicated. It just needs to feel considered. A spring wedding breakfast might feature delicate starters with pea, asparagus, or burrata, followed by lighter mains like sea bass, lemon chicken, or handmade pasta. It is those fresh, thoughtful touches that make the meal feel memorable.

INTERACTIVE FOOD MOMENTS MAKE IT FEEL FRESH

Another reason the wedding breakfast is changing? Couples have realised that guests love a little theatre.

That does not mean turning lunch into a spectacle. It means giving the meal moments of personality. A live pasta station, a beautiful bread and butter display, a tableside dessert finish, or a roaming aperitivo trolley can all bring a sense of occasion without losing elegance.

These details work especially well for modern weddings because they feel social. Guests are no longer just sitting through a meal; they are experiencing it. »

» And in a wedding landscape where personalisation matters more than ever, those details can say a lot about the couple. Maybe they love food and want the menu to feel like a talking point. Maybe they want an Italian summer feel. Maybe they simply want something guests will remember beyond “the chicken was nice.”

Fair enough.

SEASONALITY IS THE SECRET INGREDIENT

If there is one thing that instantly makes a wedding breakfast feel more current, it is seasonality.

Spring and summer are made for menus that feel bright, romantic, and full of colour. This is the season of edible flowers, citrus notes, strawberries, herbs, light pastries, chilled drinks, and dishes that feel fresh rather than heavy. It is also the perfect time to lean into alfresco dining, indoor-outdoor service, or garden-party touches that make the whole meal feel softer and more atmospheric.

A seasonal menu does more than look pretty. It tastes better, feels more connected to the day, and naturally suits the mood of a warmer-weather celebration.

In other words, if the flowers are fresh, the tablescape is beautiful, and the light is doing half the work for you, the food should absolutely rise to meet the moment.

THE STYLING MATTERS TOO

One of the smartest shifts in weddings right

“ A modern wedding breakfast should feel personal, stylish, and genuinely joyful.”

now is that food is no longer being treated separately from the aesthetic. Couples want the wedding breakfast to look as good as the rest of the day.

That means menus that suit the setting, serving styles that feel intentional, and tables that feel abundant without becoming cluttered. Food presentation has become part of the visual language of the wedding, whether that is sleek and modern, soft and romantic, or somewhere in between.

For a spring wedding, that could mean delicate glassware, fresh fruit woven into the tablescape, soft linen textures, butter-yellow details, or floral-inspired desserts that look like they belong in a patisserie window. The meal should feel like an extension of the celebration, not a separate event dropped awkwardly into the middle of it.

Because nothing disrupts a beautiful wedding mood faster than a breakfast that feels completely out of sync.

PERSONAL MENUS ALWAYS WIN

The most memorable wedding breakfasts are not always the grandest. They are the ones that feel personal.

Maybe the couple serves dishes inspired by their favourite travel destination. Maybe the menu nods to family traditions, cultural roots, or the first meal they ever shared together. Maybe they ditch the formal structure entirely and create a menu full of the foods they genuinely love.

That is what guests respond to. Not perfection, but personality.

A well-chosen wedding breakfast gives people a better sense of the couple, and that is always more powerful than simply choosing what feels expected. Trends come and go, but authenticity is what makes a meal feel special.

THE NEW WEDDING BREAKFAST CHECKLIST

The most successful wedding breakfasts usually get three things right:

1.It suits the couple –The food should feel like them, not like a box being ticked.

2.It suits the season –Spring and summer menus should feel fresh, light, and full of atmosphere.

3.It suits the flow of the day –

The best meals support the energy of the celebration instead of slowing it down. That is the real secret.

Because a wedding breakfast is no longer just the meal between the ceremony and the dancing. Done well, it becomes one of the most memorable parts of the day a moment where style, storytelling, and genuine enjoyment all meet at the table.

And really, what could be lovelier than that?

Beyond the dance floor

The new rules of wedding fun? Make it stylish, personal, and impossible to forget.

Once upon a time, wedding entertainment meant a DJ, a first dance, and maybe an uncle who got a little too confident after prosecco. Now, it is an entire part of the celebration’s personality. For spring and summer weddings especially, entertainment has become less about simply filling time and more about creating a feeling. Couples are moving away from the expected and leaning into experiences that feel immersive, elegant, and genuinely enjoyable for guests of all ages. The result is a celebration that feels less like a formal programme and more like a world people want to step into.

In other words, wedding entertainment is having a moment.

IT IS NO LONGER JUST ABOUT DANCING

Yes, people still want a full dancefloor by the end of the night. That part is not going anywhere. But couples are now thinking far more carefully about the energy of the whole day, not just the final few hours. What happens while guests arrive? What keeps the mood alive during cocktail hour? How do you avoid that flat patch between the meal and the party? These are the questions shaping modern wedding entertainment, and the answer is almost always the same: give guests something to experience, not just something to watch.

That could mean live musicians setting the tone during the ceremony, interactive food and drink moments, a photo setup people actually want to use, or surprise performances that feel fun rather than cheesy. The goal is not to overfill the day. It is to make every part of it feel intentional.

LIVE MUSIC STILL REIGNS, BUT IT IS SOFTER, SMARTER, AND MORE STYLISH

For spring/summer weddings, live music works beautifully because it blends so naturally into the atmosphere. Think less overpowering stage show, more curated soundtrack to the day.

A solo violinist for an outdoor ceremony instantly adds romance. An acoustic duo during drinks creates warmth without overwhelming conversation. A saxophonist weaving through the evening party brings energy without feeling too predictable. Even a roaming band can work brilliantly when the setting calls for something lively and playful.

The secret is choosing music that fits the tone of the wedding rather than music that feels like entertainment for entertainment’s sake. The most memorable weddings are usually the ones where every element feels like it belongs there.

INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT IS IN

Guests do not just want to sit back anymore. They want to join in, play along, and leave with stories.

That is why interactive entertainment continues to grow, especially for couples planning a wedding with a more social, modern feel. Live illustrators are one of the chicest options right now, creating guest portraits in real time that double as favours. Photo booths have also had a serious glow-up, moving away from clunky props and into sleek, styled setups that actually suit the aesthetic of the day.

Then there are the little surprises that get people talking: a champagne tower pour, a live painter capturing the ceremony, a

ENTERTAINMENT CAN BE BEAUTIFUL TOO

One of the biggest shifts in weddings right now is that couples do not want their entertainment to clash with the overall look. If the styling is elegant, romantic, and considered, then the entertainment should feel the same.

This is especially important for spring and summer celebrations, where visual atmosphere matters so much. Garden venues, seaside settings, sunlit terraces, and dreamy indoor-outdoor receptions all call for entertainment that adds to the aesthetic rather than distracting from it. That might mean a chic string trio dressed beautifully, a minimalist white photo booth, performers styled to suit the event, or even children’s entertainment that feels polished rather than chaotic. Couples are becoming more design-conscious, and entertainment is absolutely part of that.

THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT FEELS PERSONAL

The biggest trend of all is personalisation.

The weddings people remember most are rarely the ones with the biggest production. They are the ones with details that feel true to the couple. Maybe the playlist is packed with songs that tell their story.

Maybe there is a live singer performing their favourite stripped-back love songs. Maybe they swap standard entertainment for a surprise flash mob from friends, a cultural performance, or a nostalgic arcade corner because they are both secretly competitive.

Entertainment works best when it says something about the people getting married. It should feel like an extension of the celebration, not something chosen because it looked good on social media.

DO NOT FORGET THE IN-BETWEEN MOMENTS

One of the smartest things couples can do is think about the quieter transitions in the day. These are often the moments that get overlooked, yet they are where entertainment can make the biggest difference.

Guests arriving before the ceremony, mingling after vows, waiting between courses, or easing into the evening reception all benefit from

custom perfume or cocktail station, even a late-night dessert moment that turns into its own event. These details do more than entertain. They give the wedding texture.

gentle, well-placed moments of engagement. Not every wedding needs spectacle. Sometimes a beautiful soundtrack, a thoughtful food station, or a beautifully styled roaming act is enough to keep the energy flowing naturally.

It is not about cramming in as much as possible. It is about avoiding lulls and making the day feel alive from beginning to end.

FOR SPRING/SUMMER WEDDINGS, ATMOSPHERE IS EVERYTHING

There is something special about weddings in the warmer months. The light lingers longer. Outdoor spaces come to life. Drinks stretch into sunsets. Guests arrive ready for celebration. Entertainment in this season should tap into that feeling.

Think alfresco musicians, aperitivo-style cocktail moments, interactive guest experiences, elegant performances, and little surprises that unfold naturally as the day goes on. Spring and summer weddings do not need heavy-handed entertainment. They need charm, movement, and a little sparkle.

Because when the setting is already gorgeous, the entertainment should not compete with it. It should lift it.

THE NEW WEDDING ENTERTAINMENT CHECKLIST

The best choices usually tick three boxes:

• It suits the couple.

• It suits the setting.

• It gives guests a moment to remember.

That is the real formula. A stunning venue will always impress. Beautiful flowers will always photograph well. But the thing guests talk about on the way home, the next day, and sometimes years later, is usually how the wedding felt. Fun. Warm. Surprising. Full of life.

And that is exactly what the right entertainment brings.

Honeymoon, Reimagined

THE ART OF THE FIRST ESCAPE

Because the wedding may be over… but the magic is only just beginning

There’s something quietly magical about the honeymoon. It isn’t just a holiday, and it’s certainly not just a break after months of planning. It’s that soft pause between everything that was… and everything that’s about to begin. And in spring, that feeling is even more powerful.

The world is waking up. Destinations feel lighter, quieter, and wrapped in that golden glow of possibility. It’s the perfect backdrop for newlyweds to step away from the noise, exhale, and simply exist together no timelines, no checklists, no seating plans.

Just you, your person, and the beginning of forever.

THE MODERN HONEYMOON MINDSET

Today’s honeymoon isn’t about ticking off destinations, it’s about creating a feeling.

Some couples are chasing adventure: sunrise hikes, hidden beaches, spontaneous road trips. Others are leaning into stillness: slow mornings, spa rituals, and long dinners that stretch into the night.

And increasingly, couples are asking one simple question:

“What do we need right now?”

Because the answer is different for everyone.

THE RISE OF THE SOFT ESCAPE

Spring 2026 is all about the soft escape a honeymoon that feels intimate, intentional, and beautifully uncomplicated.

Think:

◊ Nature over nightlife

◊ Slow living over strict itineraries

Whether it’s a vineyard retreat in Tuscany, a coastal hideaway in Greece, or a countryside escape in France, couples are choosing spaces that allow them to reconnect, reset, and truly soak in those first days of married life.

MINI-MOONS ARE HAVING THEIR MOMENT

With weddings becoming more elaborate (and let’s be honest, slightly exhausting), many couples are embracing the mini-moon. A shorter getaway immediately after the wedding followed by a longer, more adventurous honeymoon later in the year. It’s not just practical. It’s intentional. Because sometimes, a few quiet days together is all you need to shift from planning a wedding… to living a marriage.

MALTA MAGIC: HONEYMOONING CLOSER TO HOME

For Malta-based couples, the honeymoon doesn’t always have to mean long-haul flights. In fact, staying closer to home can be just as magical. Think:

◊ A luxury staycation at a five-star hotel in Valletta or St. Julian’s

◊ A private villa escape in Gozo, complete with sunsets and sea views

◊ Boat days exploring hidden coves and crystal-clear waters

◊ Wine tasting experiences and long, lazy Mediterranean lunches

Malta offers that perfect mix of romance, relaxation, and effortless beauty, ideal for a minimoon or even a full honeymoon with a local twist.

BRIDAL TEAM

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE & GROOM GUESTS

THE COUPLE

Dorienne & Maria

28 September 2025

Some love stories arrive quietly. Others kicked the door open, wearing football boots, autumnal colours, and a double-breasted, forest-green suit. Dorienne & Maria were married at Villa Blanche, Zurrieq.

Dorienne Grech Abdilla and Maria’s story began not with sparks and fireworks, but with competition, side-eye, and a shared football pitch. What followed was a slow, beautiful realisation: sometimes love doesn’t announce itself loudly. Sometimes, it simply settles in and feels right.

“At first, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t very keen,” Dorienne laughs. “For me, it felt like competition. But over time, her smile and personality made me feel at ease.”

FROM TEAMMATES TO SOULMATES

The year was 2016. Dorienne had just switched football teams to Kirkop, while Maria had joined Team B in her very first year playing football after moving over from handball. Dorienne was 22. Maria was 18. They were teammates, nothing more. Or so Dorienne thought.

Maria, however, had other ideas. The first real spark came not on the pitch, but online.

Dorienne posted a photo of Verdala Palace taken from the Buskett side. Maria messaged her instantly.

“She told me she knew exactly where I was and from where I took the photo,” Dorienne says. My first reaction was, “Great. Why is she messaging me privately?” I was completely oblivious.

Christmas that same year changed everything. At the club’s Christmas party, Dorienne stretched her arm across the back of a chair. Maria simply slipped right in.

“My alarms were blaring,” Dorienne admits. “That was not normal friend behaviour.”

However, it took a bit longer for the truth to sink in. A suspicious sleepover. Cosy arrangements. There was an increasing awareness that something was not quite right.

“When it finally clicked, it just felt natural to pursue it.” And they pursued it.

WHY NOW?

Following three years of engagement and a year spent living together in their home, marriage seemed like the inevitable next step. »

» Dorienne says, “We promised to marry by 2025.”

A casual visit to Villa Blanche’s open weekend in September 2024 solidified their decision. In a single afternoon, they almost secured the venue, food, DJ, and cocktails.

“We walked in, looked at each other, and just knew.”

Once Maria’s sister abroad confirmed she could make it, everything else fell into place.

AN AUTUMN PALETTE, THEIR WAY

September called for colour. Lots of it.

Maria stunned in a champagne-toned gown from Alamango, while Dorienne wore a forest-green, tailored suit. Bridesmaids and maids of honour wore shades ranging from soft green to burgundy. Rust, white, green, and autumn warmth flowed through every detail, from florals to décor.

“We wanted it to feel like autumn,” Dorienne says. “Not themed. Just… right.”

The flower girls wore white with autumntoned sashes and ribbons, while the boys looked sharp in dark blue.

THE INVITATION THAT SET THE TONE

Designed by Dorienne herself, the invitation was anything but standard.

The invitation featured a fourfold design, showcasing a deep green floral background,

gold text, colourful timeline icons, and a prewedding photo at its base.

“If everything else was colourful, then the invitation had to be, too.”

It included locations, a timeline they happily didn’t follow, a photo, and a gentle note on what guests could wear. It served as an ideal preview of the upcoming day.

THE CEREMONY: SAME PLACE, SAME MAGIC

Given that the wedding was a civil union, it made sense to house both the ceremony and celebration in one location.

Villa Blanche’s floral sections, patio, and gazebo won them over instantly.

“It felt intimate but open. Romantic but relaxed.”

Both brides were escorted down the aisle by their fathers. They wrote their vows, as did their maids of honour.

“Seeing everyone’s emotions while reading our vows was unforgettable.”

THE FASHION MOMENT

Dorienne always knew she wanted a suit.

“Dresses just aren’t me.”

Finding a suit made for a woman in Malta wasn’t straightforward until Alamango entered the picture. As the process progressed, the suit underwent modifications,

culminating in a last-minute transition to a double-breasted vest and a matching cravat.

“They made sure it fit perfectly and felt like me.”

Maria carried the bouquet, while Dorienne opted for a boutonnière of white roses and gypsophila. Maria’s bouquet bloomed in autumn tones, from white through to rusty orange.

“Anna absolutely nailed the brief.”

TWO PROPOSALS, ONE PERFECT MATCH

Naturally, they both proposed.

Dorienne went first, during a trip to England for the Women’s Euro Final in 2022. Plans changed, timing slipped, but Queen Mary’s Rose Garden provided the perfect moment.

“She was checking restaurants on her phone. I smuggled the ring out and just went for it.”

Maria’s proposal followed weeks later during a camping trip, complete with family involvement, pebbles, LED lights, and a glowing “Will You Marry Me” setup.

“It was magical.”

Their rings reflected their personalities.

Dorienne’s minimal white gold band featured a rose gold inlay. Maria’s was daintier, detailed with diamonds and a soft wave design.

“Mine is relaxed,” Dorienne says. “Hers shines, just like her.” »

» Maria also wore her grandmother’s tiara, passed down through generations.

THE PARTY (AND THE DANCING)

Once the formalities ended, it was time to move tables and make room.“We made it a point that everyone had to dance.”

And dance they did. From floating candles and lanterns to a family heirloom wheelbarrow filled with souvenirs, the décor felt personal and warm. Guests snapped selfies, left voice-note marriage advice, and soaked up the atmosphere.

Food came in the form of pizza, burgers, hot dogs, and endless finger food.

“The pizza station was such a hit that

people barely made it to the second station.”

Cocktails by Damian’s kept spirits high, while DJ Edward Tagliaferro kept the dancefloor packed all night.

THE FIRST DANCE

Their first dance song? Endlessly by Amaranthe. “I’m more symphonic metal. Maria’s more pop,” Dorienne laughs. “This was the perfect middle ground.”

Despite last-minute choreography changes due to Maria’s dress, the moment was full of smiles, relief, and love.

LITTLE MOMENTS, BIG MEMORIES

The day was full of unscripted magic,

from the disintegration of Dorienne’s father’s shoes into black soot mid-prep to Dorienne being handed the photographer’s camera to capture Maria mid-spin.

“That photo,” Dorienne says, “captured perfectly by photographer Siemenjov Galdes Weddings, will always be one of my favourites.”

FINAL THOUGHTS

If Dorienne and Maria’s wedding demonstrated anything, it’s that love doesn’t require conformity. It just needs to feel true. And theirs felt like autumn sunlight, full dancefloors, shared laughter, and a lifetime of choosing each other, again and again.

A CELEBRATION OF LOVE, TRIBUTE, AND TIMELESS ELEGANCE

THE COUPLE

Nadia & Loris

11 October 2025

Some weddings are years in the planning. Others come together after a lively lunch, a little too much wine, and a group of friends making sure nobody backs out. Nadia & Loris were married at Madliena Lodge.

For Nadia Borg Scardino and Loris Scardino, getting married was never about a grand proposal or a picture-perfect moment. After more than 20 years together, marriage had always been something they talked about without ever feeling the need to turn it into a big production. Then last February, while hosting friends for lunch, the subject came up once again. Before long, the conversation turned into a decision, a promise was apparently signed, and eight months later, they were married. It suited them. Nothing about Nadia and Loris’ story feels overly polished or staged. Instead, it feels grounded, funny, warm, and full of the kind of shared history that does not need much embellishment.

“After 22 years together, they did not need a grand gesture they simply did it their way.”

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Their story started 22 years ago at Muddy Waters in St Julian’s, when Nadia was in Malta on holiday after working abroad. She had gone out with a friend who had her eye on someone there, and Nadia ended up talking to his friend instead, Loris.

At first, there were no dramatic sparks. Nadia thought he was handsome, but that was about it. What made the difference was the night itself. Loris was lively, spontaneous, and full of energy, and what began as a casual chat turned into a genuinely fun connection.

A few days later, he got hold of Nadia’s number and asked her out to dinner. Since she was heading back abroad soon, she thought she had nothing to lose. That dinner changed the tone completely, and from there the story began to build naturally into something lasting.

“What started as a casual conversation turned into a connection that lasted more than two decades.”

WHY NOW

After 22 years together, Nadia and Loris were never interested in following anyone else’s timeline. They had already built a life together and shared years of memories, routines, and milestones. Marriage only happened when it felt right for them. »

» That is exactly what makes their wedding story so refreshing. It was not about recreating a fairy tale or ticking off expectations. It was about celebrating their relationship in a way that felt honest, relaxed, and true to the people they are.

A SETTING THAT SPOKE FOR ITSELF

Arriving in style with Elite Transport Services, the couple chose Madliena Lodge for both the ceremony and celebration, a venue they had long loved for its greenery, charm, and sweeping views. It gave them everything they wanted for the day: somewhere intimate, naturally beautiful, and full of character.

Because the venue already had so much presence, the styling stayed simple. Soft flowers, muted tones, and understated décor gave the day elegance without making it feel overworked. The focus stayed where it should have been on the atmosphere and the people.

Their guest list reflected that same approach. Rather than hosting a huge wedding, Nadia and Loris chose to celebrate with close family and friends who had truly shaped their lives over the years. The result was personal, warm, and easy from start to finish.

“The day was not overdone it was intimate, stylish, and full of the people who mattered most.”

STYLE WITH PERSONALITY

Nadia’s dress was one of the standout moments of the day. With Denise by her side throughout the process, the experience was filled with laughter, emotion, and a lot of honest reactions. The final result felt exactly right for her: personal, flattering, and completely in tune with the tone of the day. »

» Her bouquet was kept simple and left in the hands of the decorator, matching the understated style of the wedding beautifully.

Even the rings came with a bit of personality. Nadia admits that while Loris may have had a budget in mind, once she saw something she liked, that budget quickly became less relevant. In the end, the rings were engraved, the moment was made personal, and nobody seemed too upset about the extra spend.

A CEREMONY THAT FELT GENUINE

The ceremony took place outdoors at Madliena Lodge, surrounded by

greenery and views the couple had admired long before they ever decided to marry there.

Led by Marthese Farrugia Turban, the ceremony struck the right balance between structure and personality. Nadia and Loris kept the standard vows, but included thoughtful touches that made the moment feel unmistakably theirs. A close friend shared stories from across the years, while Nadia’s aunt gave an emotional speech that left hardly anyone dry-eyed.

It was heartfelt without feeling theatrical. Everything about it felt personal, grounded, and genuine.

“It was not about following a script it was

about creating a day that felt unmistakably theirs.”

A CELEBRATION THAT TURNED INTO A PROPER PARTY

After the vows, the celebrations continued at the same venue, allowing the whole day to flow seamlessly from ceremony to party. Madliena Lodge delivered not only in atmosphere, but in food too, with a menu that Nadia says was a huge success among guests.

Like many couples, however, Nadia and Loris were so swept up in the energy of the day that they barely had time to eat themselves. »

» Still, the heart of the evening was not just the food or the décor. It was the mood. With a smaller guest list and a room full of familiar faces, the celebration felt more like one big party than a formal reception. And yes, there was dancing. Plenty of it.

MUSIC, FIREWORKS AND A FIRST DANCE WITH PERSONALITY

If the styling of the day was elegant and understated, the evening brought the energy. Entertainment came courtesy of a live band led by Kirsten Graham, who kept the celebrations going from start to finish. The first dance added another memorable moment, complete with fireworks that gave the night an extra burst of drama and fun. Nadia and Loris chose “’O Vita ’O Vita Mia” (Soldato Innamorato), a nod to their love of Italian music, especially Neapolitan songs, as well as football. It was personal, lively, and entirely in keeping with the spirit of the day.

By Nadia’s own account, she barely saw Loris after the first dance

because she was too busy dancing with her girlfriends, which says everything about how relaxed and joyful the evening really was.

“It felt less like a formal reception and more like one big, brilliant party.”

FINAL THOUGHTS

Nadia and Loris’ wedding was never about trying to create a fairy tale. It was about celebrating the life they had already built together, surrounded by the family and friends who had been part of that journey. After 22 years, they did not need to prove anything. What they created instead was something far more lasting: a wedding full of humour, strong friendships, personality, music, and a genuine sense of occasion. It felt real, it felt joyful, and most importantly, it felt completely true to them.

“After 22 years together, their wedding was not about proving anything it was simply a celebration of a life already well built.”
