Our work differs from that of other A tlanta schools in its purposes, its methods, and its philosophy. O ur emphasis is upon the individual child- their personality, their needs. The development of their varied abilities, their character, their personality, and their satisfactory adjustment are our chief concern.,,

At Lovett, whole child education has been the foundation of our curriculum from the School’s beginning in 1926. Our founder, Eva Edwards Lovett, was an innovative educator who envisioned an intentionally different way to learn—where children learn by doing and are taught how to think instead of what to think. Her approach was “to teach children to think for themselves, to recognize a problem and think it through, to develop their judgment, to decide for themselves, to accept responsibility.”

Nearly 100 years later, Lovett is advancing whole child education with an emphasis on learning by doing joyfully. Through purposeful hands-on classroom opportunities, community experiences, and service learning, our students balance intellectual rigor with character development, relationship building, and self-discovery. We center the needs of our students beyond traditional academics, motivating them to develop the intellect and confidence to thrive in school and in life.

At Lovett, our mission is to be a community of belonging that grows students of honor, faith, and wisdom with the character and intellect to thrive in learning and life. Guided by inspiring faculty, coaches, and administrators, our students learn through our mission every day. They live it through purposefully designed experiences. And they love the opportunities a Lovett education offers.

Every morning, we have the pleasure of welcoming 1,640 students to our riverbank campus for a new day of learning, joy, and possibility. We do not take this responsibility lightly, and we constantly challenge ourselves to provide the best educational environment possible. It is a privilege to offer Lovett’s distinctive, whole child education to every student, ensuring they are supported and provided with intellectual rigor, social-emotional learning, and character development opportunities.

INTELLECT

As our founder stated, a Lovett education “is education which is progressing continually in order to keep up with the constant changes occurring in the world around us. It is a changing education for a changing civilization.” Our world is ever-changing and the manner in which we teach children is evolving, but Lovett’s mission of preparing students to thrive in learning and in life is enduring.

By design, faculty offer experiences that inspire our students to love learning, encouraging them to think critically, communicate effectively, engage creatively, and collaborate purposefully.

We value intellect as a lifelong pursuit of the cognitive, social, and emotional skills required to thrive in an increasingly complex world.

Our school mission calls on us to develop students who will thrive in learning and in life, and to foster global citizens who are committed to improving our school, our city, our society, and our world. We provide the opportunities and resources that help our students develop independence and self-direction and extend their learning beyond the walls of the classroom as they grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, aesthetically, morally, and spiritually. We prepare our students to think and act with empathy as responsible global citizens in an increasingly diverse landscape.

PURPOSE

We value purpose as the source of motivation for learning, the discovery of self, and the foundation of a meaningful life.

Every year, I learn so much—academically, about my character, and about who I am—and I strive to apply that learning BEYOND THE CLASSROOM . Whether I am using what I have learned in Spanish class to connect with someone while serving at my local food bank, or making sure that my passion for mock trial continues in Upper School by creating a club, I hope to find more ways to relate the continued learning that I have at Lovett to other areas of my life.”

Lovett welcomes, celebrates, and honors students of all different faiths and backgrounds. We value and encourage a sense of responsibility to our faith identity, respect for diversity, service to others, and moral awareness. We expect our graduates to be people of honor and faith, striving to do what is right at all times.

Being a part of the Israel trip this past summer was truly a life-changing experience. I had never left the country, but my parents and their families have all been to Israel before. When I got to the Western Wall, I felt so connected to my family and my faith. The same feeling exists when I’m at Lovett. From the time I joined the school in sixth grade, I felt the same sense of WELCOME AND BELONGING amongst my classmates, teachers, in my classrooms, and in my faith.”
