arrow river reserve development plan
In April representatives from the AVA met with QLDC and a consultant Landscape Architect from Beca who have been instructed to design a comprehensive future development plan for the Arrow River Reserve.
With the two river bridges at Ford and Jopp Streets due for end-of-life replacement, this has helped encourage a broader conversation about the community’s vision for the river reserve as a valuable public asset. The Development Plan will serve as a comprehensive framework guiding the future development including, connection with the CBD, usage requirements and planting strategy. It aims to ensure a cohesive and strategic approach to development, avoiding fragmented, ad hoc improvements that may not align with a unified community vision. Following initial meetings with a range of key community groups a concept plan will be presented for wider public consultation, expected later in the year.
FULL COUNCIL MEETING
Thursday 29 May, 1 pm, at Arrowtown Community Centre, 9 Suffolk Street.
QLDC will be holding their full council meeting and public forum in Arrowtown in May. If you would like to attend, please go along or register to speak.

The 2025 Arrowtown Autumn Festival was an absolute hit! The town came alive with colour, music, and that unbeatable Arrowtown charm, and a big thanks to the weather for really turning it on for the whole four days. Around 20,000 people turned out to enjoy the festivities, and there was something for everyone to get involved in, from great fundraisers like the Duck Race and the Scarecrow Trail to old favourites like the Quiz Night and the Pie, Pint & Pinot.
All the performers were amazing - a big shout out to Remarkable Men’s Ballet for their debut at the festival (it feels like they have always been a part of it!) and a huge thank you to the Miner’s Band for their final performance at the Super Seniors High Tea.
Thanks to the shopfronts who joined in the fun with a window-dressing competition that made the town look extra festive. Shout out to the Arrowtown Horticultural Society for their gorgeous wreaths down the main street.
We love this festival - it really shows off what makes Arrowtown such a special place and yes, it’s a beautiful location, but this community makes it what it is. So thank you, and here’s to the 40th next year!
jane foster takes this years unsung hero
This year, Jane Foster was the 2025 Arrowtown Autumn Festival Unsung Hero — a title that barely captures the depth of her impact on our community.
Jane's unrelenting passion has kept Arrowtown Community Preschool running as a not-forprofit organisation, dedicated to nurturing our growing tamariki, fostering respectful relationships with families, and building strong connections with our community and environment.
Teacher, head teacher, professional leader, pedagogical leader, manager — you name it, Jane has fulfilled these roles during her 30+ years at the preschool. She began her journey in 1988 when her first child was just one year old. Since then, Jane has grown the preschool from a small playcentre with 17 children into two thriving centres catering for 80 enrolments.
Jane has also given countless hours in a voluntary capacity — whether it’s fundraising, mowing the lawns on the weekend, attending new parent evenings, or participating in board meetings, Jane is always there. Her hard work and dedication to keeping the preschool a true community hub — a non-profit organisation where any surplus is reinvested into learning opportunities for the children — is no small feat in these challenging economic times. Despite constant changes in Ministry of Education funding and grants for ECE centres, Jane stays on top of it all, always striving to keep fees affordable so that no child misses out. There were so many kind words sent in from past and present teachers, students & parents to support Jane.
As Jane prepares to retire later this year, we celebrate the extraordinary legacy she leaves behind: generations of children, teachers, and families shaped by her vision, values, and love. Thank you, Jane — your quiet leadership has built something truly special.
