arrowtown village association news

Urban Intensification

After some delays, the Urban Intensification debate will once again come to the fore as an important topic for the village. The Hearing Panel have advised the dates and venues where they will hear from submitters from the 2023 public consultation who have indicated they wish to speak. The dates are as follows;

28/07/2025 to 01/08/2025

04/08/2025 to 08/08/2025

25/08/2025 to 29/08/2025

– ARROWTOWN at Athenaeum Hall

– QUEENSTOWN

– WANAKA

We are expecting a large number of people to speak to the hearing on behalf of Arrowtown. The AVA has put in a submission and will be speaking to it.

Todd & Walker Law have generously offered the pro bono services of Graeme Todd and Rosie Hill to assist our community through th eprocess and will also make a presentation to the hearing on behalf of Arrowtown. Submissions from Arrowtown were overwhelmingly against being included in the planned intensification variation, so these hearings are critical to having the community’s voice heard and acknowledged, along with the strong and valid arguments that will be presented.

Our aim is to ensure Arrowtown is excluded from this variation and that our community presents a cohesive and informed voice on the matter. We intend to hold workshops to support speaker to ensure arguments are based on the persuasive facts and guidelines, rather than emotive personal views and preferences. Please stay tuned for more information of this opportunity or contact Mark Hoise For more information bella15@outlook.co.nz

a fundraisier to fill your belly

The Under-18 Junior Stampede ice hockey team will be fundraising for their 2025 season on Anzac Day at the Arrowtown Bakery Café. Competing in the National Tournament against teams from Auckland, Dunedin & Christchurch, the squad of 20 players has an expanded season this year with new rounds announced for Christchurch and Queenstown. The team is excited to compete on home turf this year, the first time in nearly a decade since Queenstown hosted a national tournament round at the junior level. Pop on down to the Arrowtown Bakery Café from 9am on Friday 25th April where the team will be serving coffee, soup, bacon & egg butties, cakes and other treats. All proceeds will support the players with their travel costs.
