2025 Community Survey Results
A record-breaking year as our community survey achieved 226 responses, up from 206 last year, thank you to all those who participated. This now forms our membership base who will continue to receive updates on projects and initiatives. Survey responses showed strong support for our new Quarterly Newsletter, which has become a key part of our communications in an increasingly busy information landscape. This year's five key initiatives were ranked similarly in importance, with Urban Intensification emerging as the top priority, followed by Local Elections in October, District Parking Strategy, Coronet Forest Trails & Planting, River Reserve Masterplan and Managed Access to Macetown. More detailed information will be provided in our Q1 Newsletter.
It was encouraging that 60% responded expressing interest in learning more about how they can contribute to the work of the AVA. We are a voluntary organisation and constructive participation from all community members is welcomed throughout the year.
As part of our new membership structure we also request voluntary donations. Responses suggested an average of $40 as an appropriate contribution. You can still donate and register as a member via the QR code. Sign up to receive a detailed analysis of survey results and our next newsletter.

weather cleared for another successful opera
Arrowtown’s 2025 Twilight Garden Opera was a huge success. The picnic opera event, the fifth held by the Arrowtown Creative Arts Society, had a record attendance of 460 which was achieved despite earlier bad weather. Profits will go to 'Turn Up the Music' charity, which now provides individual music lessons to more than 300 Wakatipu children.
The enthusiastic audience enjoyed a mix of classic opera and modern musical favourities, particularly a moving finale where seven “huge” opera voices delivering a harmonized “How Great Thou Art.” The concert’s picturesque venue was the Stalker Family’s Springpointer Gardens, which has a backdrop to the Remarkables.
“Clearly this concert is well established as one of the summer’s most popular highlights,” said ACAS spokesman John Lapsley.

arrowtown community nursery
The Arrowtown Community Nursery which is being set up at Tewa Banks by the Arrowtown Choppers, are excited to let you know that the potting shed is being built this week by the absolute legends at AJ Saville, who are generously donating their time and skills to get the job done.
A huge thanks to Grant from Spectrum Drainage & Contracting who volunteered his time (and the digger) to level the site for us.
Also, we have received funding from Central Lakes Trust to purchase the T28 potting trays that we will be using in the nursery. These are a new longlasting version, lasting for nine+ years instead of the current one year. That means much less plastic and less long-term cost.
The community nursery is a real team effort, and we can’t wait to make it a great place for us to all to grow the trees that will become a beautiful native forest around Arrowtown.
All the help mentioned above is in addition to all the amazing help and/or funding we’ve had to get to this point including the ORC EcoFund, Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust, Arrowtown Golf Course, DevCorp, Arrowtown Business and Promotions Association, Arrowtown Village Association and QLDC.
If you haven’t already and would like to register your interest and to receive updates, please contact us via email: nursery@ arrowtownchoppers.co.nz
