Kate

is back

Kate Agnelli is coming back to Arrowtown featuring her latest exhibition 'An Extraordinary Adventure...Life!' which opens at the Lakes District Museum on 30 January 6 pm and runs until 9 March 2025.

Kate has been here over a couple of summers with her partner Luigi, who sadly passed away just over a year ago. Luigi & Kate were famous for there unique drawing style and she has continued drawing, with the couple’s signature, ‘the black and white cats’, always looking on.

twilight opera in the garden

Eight of New Zealand’s finest young Opera talent have signed for the much-loved Twilight Garden Opera on Sunday 9 February.

The popular picnic opera has become one of the most sought after bookings for rising new stars. By contrast it had a cast of five when it launched six years ago. This year’s concert is again at the Stalker family’s Springpointer Garden, with its beautiful amphitheatre looking out to The Remarkables.

The event’s popularity increases despite an industry downturn in the outdoor concert sector. Paul Rea, chair of Arrowtown Creative Arts Society (ACAS) which coproduces it with Auckland’s Opera Studio, puts the continued success down to a “very happy combination.”

“The cast bring fabulous voices, and they’re flattered to be chosen. Plus the program we agree on is always a terrific mix of opera’s most famed arias and duets, and the best of “big voice” pop,” says Paul.

“The artist ‘buy-in’ is strong, and they constantly remark we have something in our atmosphere that brings out the best in performances.

“Because we have about 450 people, the audience sits close, plus the picnic and parking is easy,” says Paul.

The concert has been brought forward an hour so that the second half doesn’t get cold. ACAS asks that concert goers book early to make planning easier.

Sunday February 9. Gates open 4pm for 5pm concert. 70 Lower Shotover Rd. BYO picnic or hampers delivered onsite by www.arctickitchen. co.nz. Tickets $95, and $75 for ACAS members. From Arrowtown Pharmacy or online, search “Arrowtown” at www.evenfinda.co.nz.

Membership Renewal – Final Call

We are now required to renew our membership database each year. You participation in the survey will register you as any AVA Member for 2025, so it is vital to ensure you continue to receive news and communications. Knowing our current active membership also supports the submissions we make on behalf of the community. We are also requesting voluntary donations which support ongoing costs such as online subscriptions and the cost of running public meetings. All AVA work is carried out by community volunteers and our finances are made public each year at our October AGM. www.arrowtown-village-association-membership-donation.raisely. com

Last year we just exceeded 200 responses, it would be great to top that again this year.

more than 8,000 at this years show

The 109th Lake Hayes A&P Show last Saturday was an outstanding success with record attendance of more than 8,000 people. The weather was perfect, the views unmatched, and the community came together to enjoy all things that make A&P shows special. The new kidszone supported by principal partner Queenstown Airport was a big hit with a stage for local performers as well as family friendly activities such as Jones Contracting’s Big Dig. We were pleased to welcome show jumping back this year after a oneyear hiatus and the equestrian classes in the Classic Builders Arena showcased the high level of local and national riders.

It’s always great to have the support of local businesses behind this community event and we welcomed new partners Ayrburn and Swifty who supported the show bars and an interactive Farmzone. The Ray White Grand Parade and Mountain Scene Hobby Horses were a highlight for tamariki. The entries across a range of categories in home industries impressed the judges and we appreciate Baxter’s long-standing support of this A&P mainstay. There was an exceptional line-up of entertainers on the Five Mile stage including highland dancers, Nadia Lim, Jackie Bristow. Without our funding partners QLDC, Lotteries, Central Lakes Trust, Creative NZ, the show would not be possible. Also a shout out to our Coronet Peak Volunteer Crew, this event simply wouldn’t happen without you. Our efforts to reduce waste continue and the dishrupt team were working hard to help us almost eliminate single use serveware. The park and ride and bike park were also very well used this year.
