Our old girl has been many things over the past 150 years: a bank, a lawyer’s office, a printing room and tea rooms to name a few. Today, as a pillar of our Community, lovingly seismic strengthened and renovated over the past couple of years, this celebration is a nod to her.
The Fork and Tap is a place for our Community to come together, it is a beloved spot to catch up with friends and neighbors, unwind after a long day or celebrate special occasions. We believe in connecting people through good food, drink and camaraderie. 14 years ago Keith & Jeannie recognised this, but they couldn't have done it without the endless Community support.
It's about time we had a party to celebrate her, with all of you! So to celebrate the 150 years get these dates locked into your calendar, get your Peaky Blinders outfit ready and secure your ticket with the team behind the bar. 6–8th December.
The Arrow River is a majestic and wonderful asset enjoyed my Arrowtown’s and visitors alike. As warmer weather arrives, we are all drawn to the cooling waters to enjoy and play. Please be aware and caution children of the dangers out seemingly placid summer waters can present.
A heavy rainfall can quickly change the river, previously safe spots can bring stronger unpredictable currents. Improvised rope swings and jumping from banks are a childhood rite of passage but please be careful of fragile branches and shallow rocky waters beneath. Fallen trees can also present a temptation to play in or cross the waters, again be aware of the tendency of crack willow to break easily or the potential to slip and fall. Enjoy our river this season but please do so responsibly! coronet forest
The QLDC Community & Services Committee have approve a draft plan for Coronet Forest. Many groups have inputted to this to create a plan for new walking, biking and house riding tracks with native plantings on the face of recently logged Coronet Forest. Fundraising is underway through community trusts as the tracks are not council funded, but an amazing community asset will come out of it. AGM
A reminder that the AVA Annual General meeting is being held on Tuesday 22nd October, 6pm at the Community Rooms by the tennis courts. Please come along to hear more about the work of the AVA in the last 12 months and the year ahead. There is still time to put your hand up to become a committee member, please contact Nick Fifield at chairperson@ arrowtownvillage.nz for more information.

Now open, the Wharehuanui trail linking Arrowtown to Arthurs Point is 13km of new trail. Constructed along the northern side of the Whakatipu Basin, following the foothills of Coronet Peak, and tracing Mill Creek from its source before connecting into the existing Countryside Trail at Millbrook. The new trail is the result of seven years’ work by Queenstown Trails with the support of many stakeholders and the community. Queenstown Trails CEO Mark “Willy” Williams has championed the expansion of the Queenstown Trails network. “The big focus of the Wharehuanui Trail is creating a seamless recreational link between the valley trails and the wider backcountry MTB trail network on and around Coronet Peak and Mahu Whenua.” The Wharehuanui Trail also provides an opportunity to experience the conservation efforts by Mana Tahuna and the extensive Mill Creek/Lake Hayes restoration project underway.

The Arrowtown Choppers would like to say a big THANK YOU to the community and sponsors for your valuable contribution to the October 2024 'Arrowtown Beech Party Planting Day'.
We planted 3000 Beech and Totara in just over 3 hours, with the help of 130+ volunteers. It was awesome to see so many happy faces, including children with their parents and grandparents creating a legacy for future generations of Arrowtowners.
In total we have now planted 19,500 trees around the Sawpit Gully track in the four years. This is a recurring event in the Arrowtown calendar, and we look forward to seeing you in 2025 for the 9th edition.
Thank you all for helping, we really appreciate it.
We would also like to thank the Arrowtown Cub Group for planting 200 Olearia, Coprosma and Kowhai at Bush Creek in September. This adds to the 5000 plants already planted in the area, with more plantings to come from the Arrowtown School and Arrowtown Kea Group in October 2024.
If you are interested in helping with wilding pine control, planting days (including the preparation and maintenance of the sites) or the plant nursery planning (located in Tewa Banks), then contact us at: info@arrowtownchoppers.co.nz.
