The Fab Six are supported by pianist Somi Kim

Stunning twilight opera for February 12

The thrilling Twilight Opera returns on Sunday February 12 –blessed by one of the world’s most dramatic concert settings. Six of the country’s finest opera stars sing a “popular selection” against the sweeping backdrop of The Remarkables seen from Shari and Grant Stalker’s Lower Shotover property.

“Our Twilight Opera is made special by the way the amazing voices and venue combine to make one and one equal about six,” says Paul Rea, chair of the Arrowtown Creative Arts Society (ACAS) which co-presents the event with Auckland Opera Studio. “New Zealand singers have become a big part of world opera. The Opera Studio’s clout helps us assemble younger performers who have already ‘made it,’ or are well on their way,” said Mr Rea. This year’s two sopranos are the Maltese born Carla Camilleri, and Amelia Berry who brought the house down at the 2021 Twilight Opera. Mezzo Tayla Alexander’s appearances with SOLE3MIO have sealed her reputation.

Oliver Sewell’s rich tenor has soloed at fabled venues like Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Centre. He’s joined by Shiddarth (Sid) Chand, one of the new talents snapped up by the Opera Studio. The lavish Samoan baritone voice of Samson Setu completes the “fab six”, supported by South Korean born pianist, Somi Kim.

Call this one “Unmissable.”
