ongview High’s Career and Technology Education program is second to none in developing skilled workers for fulfilling jobs in a variety of skilled and technical fields. CATE Director Brian Kasper said the program prepares students for high-skill, high-wage jobs focused on areas of industry need. “Our students graduate from Longview High School with not just a diploma, but skills and qualifications that make them extremely sought-after candidates right out of the box,” he said. Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox agreed, adding that the CATE program helps students “take it to the next level” in finding out what they want to do with their lives.

“In the past, your average high school student just took average high school classes, then went to college without really being sure what they wanted to study or what career they wanted to follow,” he said. “With this kind of program, many of them are finding their career path early on. Not only that, but they’re getting training and certification that puts them at an advantage over other schools where their students are still trying to figure it out.” Among those graduating in 2018 with advanced Career and Technology Education are LHS seniors German Zelaya, Jose Velazquez, and Michael Vera.
