Naming the Building - Voters' Pamphlet

The Community Building: Everyone should vote for The Community Building! This is clearly the best name because we are one big community. Did you know that humans are such social creatures that loneliness decreases your physical health? This relates to The Little School because we all work together often, so no one is lonely. The name Community Building is our prophecy! Finally, the most important reason you should pick Community Building is because you are part of the TLS community. So, vote for Community Building at the election and fulfil the prophecy!

The Garden Building: Vote “The Garden Building” and nature will always be at your side! When you enter the garden, you feel warm and entertained. That is how you will feel when entering the new Little School building, if you vote for The Garden Building. Think about how much fun you have when working in the garden with Jessie, munching on garden sorrel, hanging out in the garden, taking deep breaths, breathing the cool air, or even cooking the food delivered from the garden! There is a diversity of different animals living in the garden just like there will be so many different types of people in the new building. The building is a garden of life! The garden is open to everyone, shining and smiling as your day goes on. If you vote for The Garden Building, then the building will be another garden space.

The Grove: Everyone should vote for The Grove. This is clearly the best name because it is a sign that will help others feel better, a place to help people. “Grove.” Did you know that the building is like trees, and a grove is for a group of trees? It makes sense! Furthermore, a grove has fungi connecting each tree so they can talk to each other. The grove also uses the fungi to help each other, for example if one of the trees in the grove is sick, the other members in the grove will support that tree that is sick— just like the TLS community. Finally, the most important reason you should pick The Grove is because The Grove is a simple name that shows how people are taken care of. Those are all the reasons you should vote for the Grove as the name of the new building, so I hope you vote The Grove.

The Hive: Everyone should vote for The Hive. This is clearly the best name because people at The Little School work together and collaborate just like bees. Did you know that there is one queen per hive? This relates to The Little School because we have our Queen Head of School, Julie! Furthermore, the Hive makes you feel like you’re a part of a community, just like bees work together, everyone at The Little School does too! Finally, the most important reason you should pick The Hive is because the new building will be a safe place just like a hive. You should vote for The Hive because a hive is a buzz of life and community, just like The Little School.

The Lodge: Everyone should vote for The Lodge. This is clearly the best name because The Lodge has lots to do with the school. Did you know that beaver lodges are mostly under water? This relates to The Little School because a beaver lodge has to do with the ultimate frisbee team for TLS. Furthermore, the beaver is a strong builder as we build structure for future generations. Finally, the most important reason you should pick The Lodge is because the school has a lot to do with beavers. We build a better future for kids and the mountain beavers is the ultimate frisbee team for TLS and we help out each other. After all I’ve said about The Lodge, this is the best name for the new building. We are intertwined and collaborate with each other.

The Madrona Building: Everyone should vote for The Madrona Building. This is clearly the best name because the madrona tree is dying due to global warming so they are special to see. Did you know that the latin word for Madrona is “Arbutus” which means strawberry because of the tree’s red and orange color? This relates to The Little School because TLS is super lucky to have a Madrona tree on campus, so the school is special like the new building is to us! The Madrona tree’s branches are different like this school is from other schools. Finally, the most important reason you should pick The Madrona Building is because a madrona tree is big like the new building and it’s not just big physically, it’s big in our hearts. My last reason you should vote for The Madrona Building is because it is an astronomical name and the school is an astronomical place too!

The Mountain Building: Everyone should vote for The Mountain Building. This is clearly the best name because there are a lot of mountains around The Little School. Did you know that mountains occur in the ocean as well as on land? This relates to The Little School because mountains are all over and we have a big community. Furthermore, The Mountain Building is a strong name and the new building would benefit from that. Finally, the most important reason you should pick The Mountain Building is because The Mountain Building is a solid name; we are a solid community and The Mountain Building fits that.

The Nest: Everyone should vote for The Nest! This is clearly the best name because there might be treasures inside (like really good memories) and we will really treasure the building. Did you know that nests are comfy (not that I tried but the birds seem to like it so I guess we will???) and cozy, so vote for “The Nest Building!” The Nest relates to The Little School because nests are also important for learning, mommy birds teach their kids to recognize what is bad food and what is yummy food that is edible in the nest, we are also going to learn in the new building. Furthermore, birds like their nest just like we will like the new building, and you should too a lot of people worked hard to make it happen, so please be grateful. Finally, the most important reason you should vote for The Nest is because it's a great school and the new building deserves a great name ----- Vote for The Nest!

The Rivers Building: Everyone should vote for the Rivers Building. This is clearly the best name because we have Meadows, Woods and Cedars. We will have Meadows, Woods, Cedars and Rivers of The Little School if you vote for Rivers. Did you know that many rivers connect, like we do a lot at The Little School? this relates to The Little School because this building will connect all of us even more. Furthermore, like our community, rivers are so big that you can’t use a spatula to pick them up! Finally, the most important reason you should pick Rivers is because The Rivers building will sail us into the future!

Obviously you should vote for The Rivers Building because of all these facts.

The Roots Building: Everyone should vote for The Roots Building. This is clearly the best name because the new building is like the roots of the school; everything grows out of it. Did you know that roots of trees connect trees to each other, just like this building will connect all the buildings in the school? Roots are like the wires that allow trees to talk. Also, the name The Roots Building relates to The Little School because we are connected as roots are connected. Furthermore, roots are like the start of a tree and the new building is where the start of the day begins. Finally, the most important reason you should pick The Roots Building is because this new building will be the roots of the school. It is where visitors will go first, where we all will gather together, and it will keep us intertwined. This is clearly the best name for the new building because it has so much to do with The Little School. Be sure you vote for Roots Building!

When: Turn ballots in between November 16-18 Where: Ballot Boxes are available in the Woods, Meadows, Cedars, and Admin Buildings on campus OR online How: We will use ranked choice voting to ensure the most voices possible are represented in our final decision Who: Everyone! Current students and teachers, parents, alums, everyone is welcome to vote once!

Ranked choice voting is when you choose your top three choices then you see who won. The winner is whoever gets the majority of votes, but if someone doesn’t have 51% yet, then take out the one who has least votes and use those voters’ next choice votes. If one choice still don't have 51% then next lowest is taken out and so on. It works because if people didn’t get there first choice of voting, then you can get a 2nd or 3rd. Because everyone is not going vote for what you did, you still might have your 2nd or 3rd. —Zach, Kian, and Charlie
