VIEW RESTAURANT

Top-Notch Seafood with a Breathtaking View of the Great South Bay BY MARY DONNELLY

The wonderful month of May: the weather has warmed, flowers are blooming, and gentle south shore breezes bring the sweet summer aromas of sea and sand. As we shake off the memory of a rainy and cold March, we’re drawn to nature’s playground in our own backyard: the Great South Bay. We eat, we drink, we dance, and we delight in the company of our family and friends. What better place to do so than at VIEW in Oakdale, where Long Islanders in-the-know flock to eat, drink, dance and enjoy year-round! It’s no secret that the warmer months are the prime time to visit VIEW, and they’ve planned so many special events to capitalize on the beauty of the season as we enjoy some of the region’s most delicious food. YELLOWFIN TUNA TARTARE

Situated just where the Connetquot River meets the Great South Bay, VIEW offers, as its name suggests, some of the south shore’s most opulent nautical scenery. Guests can enjoy breathtaking water views featuring nature’s most colorful artwork: periwinkle days or rose and lavender sunsets; navy evening sky decorated with sparkling silver stars, which sets the scene for the restaurant’s main feature: Executive Chef William Muzio’s dynamically creative menu. Chef Muzio, who previously worked under world-renowned Chef Eric Ripert at Le Bernadin in New York City, is among the best of the best on Long Island, bringing a world of experience to the kitchen that he’s captained since the restaurant opened in 2010. After graduating in the top of his class from The Culinary Institute of America, Muzio traveled throughout Europe and South East Asia to gain firsthand knowledge of international cuisine. Elements of this education are notable in VIEW’s eclectic menu, which changes often, but always incorporates the best the season has to offer. His talent hasn’t gone unnoticed. In addition to enjoying favorable ratings from Newsday and the New York Times, Richard Scholem, reviewer for Long Island Pulse Magazine, called VIEW “an innovative, sophisticated eating place with a heavyweight chef.” It is one of nine restaurants owned and operated by Lessing’s, Inc. – whose name is as ubiquitous to Long Islanders as the Great South Bay itself. Chef Muzio makes it a priority to always infuse the freshest, most-local ingredients into his creations, which feature fresh sushi and top-notch seafood selections, as well as those fan favorites that bring us back to VIEW again and again. Sweet and tangy Crispy Thai Calamari, anyone? My mouth waters just thinking about it…

Another of these high-demand standout creations is what I call “summer-on-a-plate”: the yellowfin tuna tartare with a sesame-ginger vinaigrette and avocado puree. Also a warm weather menu staple is Chef Muzio’s savory jumbo lump crab cakes with creamed corn succotash and smoked red pepper aioli. Take it all in with a cool glass of Lessing’s Local White, a Chenin Blanc by Paumanok Vineyards, and you’ve got a meal you won’t soon forget. In addition to Paumanok Vineyards, VIEW offers an extensive wine list featuring local North Fork vineyards. Whether you’re seeking a bountiful Sunday brunch, a romantic date night, an elegant family meal, or an exciting happy hour to usher in a well-deserved weekend, VIEW has something to offer, but this season you must make it a priority to come on Thursday evening. Thursdays are all about lobster, and this season brings a taste of the tropics with creative Caribbeanthemed lobster dinner alongside tasty craft cocktails curated by VIEW

Mon-Thurs: 12-9pm, Fri: 12-10pm, Sat: 6-10pm, Sun: 11-8pm • Sun BRUNCH Seatings: 11am, 11:30am, 1pm, 1:30pm BAR Tues-Fri: 12pm-Late, Sat: 5pm-Late, Sun: 12pm-Late • LIVE MUSIC Fri & Sat: 8-11pm

mixologist Matt Hickey. Guests who opt to dine al fresco enjoy Chef Muzio’s delicious seasonal specials while soaking up the sunshine or taking in a sunset. Those coming by sea may dock their boats in one of twenty transient boat slips and enjoy dockside service. Guests who dine indoors are not cheated out of the restaurant’s namesake. The fresh and modern main dining room offers a sleek interior elegance to complement the panoramic water views, where it’s not unusual to see passing paddle-boarders or boaters cruising up the river. On chilly nights, guests can cozy up to one of three roaring fireplaces nestled into semi-private corners of the dining room. VIEW is also a natural choice for a special event: the airy main dining room and seaside patio can accommodate up to 200 guests with the most magnificent backdrop. It’s a sought-after selection for weddings, engagement parties, birthday surprises, showers, and almost any celebration you can think of. Whether it’s delicious food or delightful scenery, time spent at VIEW is certainly memorable. LOBSTER THURSDAY

pring is finally in full bloom and life is in full swing here along the Great South Bay. Congratulations to all of you who are rejoicing in wonderful new milestones. May and June are months to enjoy and celebrate all these special times.

In this issue you will find wonderful restaurants and caterers to consider hosting your celebration, as well as home improvement professionals and tips to spruce up your home. Our May issue is always a tribute to all women. Happy mother’s day to all the hard-working mothers and women who help raise and nurture our children. Time has the tendency to accelerate… one moment your children are in elementary school and the next moment they are looking for colleges. So many of my own friends, with whom I raised my kids, are now becoming first time grandparents. As I watch in awe, the pleasure of being a grandparent seems to be universal among them. So I’m told, they love their new role as a grandparent, which is to just love them to pieces. After speaking with entrepreneur, Jeanine Longo, about her new refill bar, O’Beehave, in Babylon, I was inspired to take some significant steps to help reduce both my personal and my home’s carbon foot print. I hope the article written in this issue will give you some ideas and inspire you to check yours as well. Along with serious issues, life will always have wonderful things to celebrate. It is always my goal to make our lifestyle magazine one that inspires you to be happy and healthy, and see the beauty in all of life’s seasons. Have a wonderful spring!

MUST KNOW

OLD HOUSE CHARM

With warmer temperatures and picture perfect days we haven’t seen since fall, May brings the urge to get out and shop for antique and vintage treasures all across the south shore of Long Island and beyond. If there is one thing we love to do, it is hunt for cool, unique home décor finds. Here are a few of our favorite places to visit every so often to score amazing pieces and deals:

Facebook Groups: Vintage Chic

Hidden Treasures Found

Facebook has become a mecca for second-hand sales. It is an easy way to make money selling items as well as find some great pieces. To participate, you must ask to join a particular group and be sure to obey the rules. Items for sale will show in your Facebook newsfeed. You can also add search criteria so that if you are looking for something in particular, you are alerted when it is posted for sale. One of our fave’s is Vintage Chic which seems to attract sellers and buyers who appreciate antique and vintage pieces.

Hidden Treasures Found is a great little store offering a collection of vintage, rustic, chippy, and antique furniture and home décor. They also sell chalk and milk paint for turning your finds or modern furniture into beautiful, distressed vintage-style pieces. The store is located on Railroad Ave in Sayville. Check it out and tell them the girls at Old House Charm sent you.

Brightwaters Tag Sale This event is held each fall (and sometimes spring) in Woohseepee Park, Brightwaters, where locals purge their homes by selling their beautiful wares at a great discount. This is truly one of the best events to score many great items for low, low prices. Upcoming dates are posted on signs around the village and on the village website www.villageofbrightwaters.com.

South Shore Estate Sales When you move into the Bay Shore area, it doesn’t take long to learn about South Shore Estate Sales and that you want to get on their email list ASAP! Simply go to their website (www.southshoreestatesales.com) and fill out the request asking to be added to their contact list. You will then be alerted when there is a ONE DAY BLOWOUT! This group hosts estate sales on the south shore of Long Island where homes, which are on the market or recently sold, are filled with antique/vintage items for sale at significant discounts. From old garden trellises to pretty worn baskets and furniture just waiting for the right paint job, these sales are always exciting to attend. One word of advice, get there early!

Sagtikos Manor Antique, Vintage & Collectables Show This is a great local event where you can “go antiquing” amongst numerous vendors all within the confines of the historic Sagtikos Manor. This year’s event will be held on June 18, (Father’s Day) from 10am–4pm.

Country Living Fair The Country Living Fair is hosted by Country Living Magazine each year in Rhinebeck, NY and other locales. It will be held this year, June 2nd – 4th, at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. This is by far our favorite event as there are booths as far as your eyes can see filled with all things antique, vintage, homemade, crafted or simply cool. From a home décor standpoint, your imagination runs wild with inspiration from the beautifully-styled booths. MUST KNOW

HOME DECOR

What's in now Olive Trees Are the Next Big Trend for Homes Move over, succulents. This ancient Mediterranean plant thrives when potted and will lend farmhouse-chic charm to any room of your home. Plus you can go big or small, depending on if you want to fill up an empty corner or just add a little green accent to your desk.

Repurposing salvaged wood is a popular trend in the home improvement industry. Not only can salvaged wood give a home a one of a kind look, it’s a handy way to incorporate the three “R”s of green living into our lifestyle: reduce, reuse and recycle. Reclaimed wood is often used in flooring, beams, wall treatments, and doors. It also can be turned into furniture or home accent items. Reclaimed wood adds warmth and historical interest to a home’s décor that newer materials may lack. Although finding wood that can be salvaged takes time and some legwork, such efforts can quickly pay off. Many businesses are now devoted to

reclaimed timber, which can make the process of finding and using salvaged wood easier. Doors are versatile pieces of reclaimed lumber because they’re already flat and rather large. Doors can be turned into headboards, tables or benches. Staircase or porch posts can be turned into candlestick holders, and wood shutters can dress up walls and provide a place to hang artwork and other wall items. Reclaimed wood can be found everywhere. Check salvage yards, landfills, dumpsters in front of older homes being renovated, construction sites, and garden centers for old pallets.

Organic materials The outdoors is making its way in. Wood and stone can be beautifully integrated into a variety of aesthetics while contributing a soothing natural vibe.

Don’t buy matching furniture. Selecting two different bedside tables or nightstands is completely acceptable if not preferred in some instances. Choose a drawered nightstand for one side of the bed and a small table or side chair for the other. It’s easy to order every piece of furniture, lamp, and accessory from a one-stop shop, but that wouldn’t be much fun, now would it?

LOCAL STORIES

A L E T T E R F R O M T H E PA S T

A Son’s Heartfelt Letter Reveals a Glimpse into the History of My Home BY MARY DONNELLY I sold my beloved Babylon Village condominium in the spring of 2015. So fast, in fact, that I was left without a place to live! I was forced to kick my new home search into overdrive. I must have visited 50 or more listings, planning elaborate road trips on weekends to catch as many open houses as possible. My outstanding real estate agent was so patient with me. I was impulsive and picky, wanting to see everything...even the long shots. Sadly, I was mostly disappointed. The houses looked great on paper. In person? Not so much. Well-meaning friends told me I would know immediately when I’d found “the one.” They were sweet to be so encouraging, but if I’ve learned anything from years of teaching Romeo & Juliet to my 9th graders, love at first sight leads to untimely death. But yet it happened. Feeling somewhat melancholy after visiting some truly disappointing open houses that morning, I contemplated my next move over a slice of pizza. I had one more on my list, but it was one of the long shots: 100 years old, and listed at about $100k beyond my price range. I can’t say what it was… but some unseen force nudged me on. As much as I wanted to give up and go home, I drove to Brightwaters to see the house. It was, indeed, love at first sight. The atmosphere of the beautiful old colonial was captivating, and though there were obvious flaws, my mind pushed them aside. I wanted to make an offer right then and there. On a second, more critical visit with my real estate agent, I took particular notice of the artwork hanging above the home’s beautiful rustic fireplace, something I only vaguely acknowledged at the open house. It was a framed, 14x16 sketch of a house surrounded by tall trees and lush greenery, signed by “Joan McKinnon, ’92.”“I bet that’s the original house,” said my agent,

12 | THE LIST MAGAZINE

who pointed out identifying elements. Much has changed since then; the main entrance was relocated to the center of the home, and a patio was enclosed. Luckily, my agent approved. My offer was accepted, and we went to contract. At the final walk-through, the previous owner confirmed that the drawing was left to them when they purchased the home in 1998. Aside from knowing she was an artist of some sort, there were no other details. It was a typical mail delivery on a Friday earlier this spring that changed everything. I received an envelope addressed simply to “the current owners of my former home.” It contained a handwritten letter and copies of articles about Joan McKinnon. The sender? Her son, Jim. “Welcome to my old house,” the letter began. “I occasionally pass by the house I loved and lived in for quite a while.” He went on to describe memories, joyful family dinners and barbecues. He eventually came of age and moved away, soon

bringing his own children to “grandma’s house” for holidays and sleepovers. Jim also explained that he noticed exterior changes over the years, but also that a “For Sale” sign had gone up and come down. His mother, Joan McKinnon, lived in the home for 23 years before moving out of state. “She had left a gift of a framed pen and ink drawing she did of the house as a housewarming gift to the new owners,” he wrote. “I’m hoping it is still with the house.” I devoured his letter in one delicious gulp, touched by the sender’s devotion and pride as he spoke so lovingly of his mother. “I can still see her sitting at her 100 year old wooden drafting table in the upstairs sitting room that became her studio,” he wrote. “Unfortunately we lost mom 3 ½ years ago, but her spirit still lives on.” He enclosed Newsday’s obituary, where a reporter described McKinnon as an artist and fashionista, who “enjoyed reinventing herself, dressing fashionably, traveling and attracting friends wherever she went.” I like to think that I have a few things in common with Joan McKinnon, and I can’t help but wonder if it was her influence that sent me to her former home, the one that captivated me instantly and against all sense of reason. In his conclusion, Jim wished me luck. “Personal history generally never passes along with a house,” he wrote, adding that the home “was such a special, happy safe haven for us that I thought I’d share it with you.” I enthusiastically crafted a response thanking Jim for his thoughtfulness, and I mailed it with a photo of his mom’s drawing, which I reframed, hanging on my wall. Jim’s tribute to his mother offered me a pricelessly unique glimpse into my home’s beautiful past.

MUST KNOW

BE GREEN

Small Steps with Big Impact for the Earth ONE OF THE BEST GIFTS WE CAN LEAVE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN IS A GREENER, CLEANER PLANET. Each of these items is meant to plant a few seeds of inspiration as to how you can take small steps to help preserve and keep our beautiful planet beautiful for future generations. LEARN MORE ABOUT SUSTAINABLE LIVING. This is the first and most important step. Read up on the subject of environmentalism, and how your personal carbon footprint can affect global pollution levels. There are plenty of resources available online or at your local library. TURN IT DOWN, TURN IT OFF. Save energy! Install energy-efficient

light bulbs, turn off lights when leaving a room, make sure walls and floors are properly insulated and windows are fully sealed.

UNPLUG. We all have electronic devices that require frequent

recharging, but leaving the plugs in the wall when not connected to a device results in ‘vampire’ energy consumption. Pull them from the socket, and while you’re at it, unplug that coffee pot or stereo system that’s driving up the electric bill simply by displaying the wrong time on its built-in clock.

Long Island’s Happiest, Healthiest Refill Bar and Beauty Apothecary

FILTERED NOT BOTTLED. We all love a refreshing glass of water, but all those plastic bottles need to be recycled or disposed of. A better solution is to buy a water filter for your tap or refrigerator. This helps to cut costs as well. CAR MAINTENANCE. A well maintained car consumes less gas. Keep tires inflated to the manufacturer’s specifications. Get regular tune-ups and oil changes. When it comes time to replace your current ride, think high gas mileage, hybrid, or alternate fueled vehicles. EAT GREENER FOOD. The food industry contributes substantial carbon

emissions in the process of shipping their products around the world. When you eat seasonal, local, and organic food, you help to conserve the environment – as well as improve your own health.

A huge “Bravo!” to O’Beehave Naturals Refill Bar, located in Babylon Village. The salon’s luxurious, earth-friendly hair and body product line is available for refill in their reusable “lifetime containers”. Bring in the containers and they will refill them for you. It’s that easy. No plastic waste. Even better, they will customscent the products for you with added essential oils, or leave the products unscented if you prefer. We love Healthy Alternatives, also in Babylon Village, for encouraging a healthy, green lifestyle. Their holistic center and specialty shop were created to nurture and inspire health and well-being. In addition to natural and organic products, they also feature products that are recycled and repurposed or give back in some way. Double green-thumbs up to all the retail stores, school districts, and many wonderful organizations, both local and national, who have embraced and become passionate about protecting and preserving our planet.

9 Ways to Reduce Waste 1. Utilize reusable bags and containers when shopping, traveling, or packing lunches or leftovers. 2. Choose products that are returnable, reusable, or refillable over single-use items. 3. Avoid individually wrapped items, snack packs, and single-serve containers. Buy large containers of items or from bulk bins whenever practical. 4. Be aware of double-packaging - some "bulk packages" are just individually wrapped items packaged yet again and sold as a bulk item. 5. Purchase items such as dish soap and laundry detergents in concentrate forms. 6. Compost food scraps and yard waste. Fruit & vegetable scraps, tea bags, coffee grinds, and egg shells, along with leaves and yard trimmings, can be combined

in your backyard compost bin to make nutrient rich soil for your garden. 7. Reduce the amount of unwanted mail you receive. The average resident in America receives over 30 lbs. of junk mail per year. 8. Try to buy items made of recycled content, and use and reuse them as much as possible. Use both sides of every page of a notebook before moving on to the next clean notebook. Unneeded, printed on printer paper can be used as a scratch pad or shopping list. 9. BYO mug/container wherever possible for refills; this includes coffee shops, 7-11s, and refill bars. Many shops offer a minimal discount when you arrive with mug in hand. Remember…it’s not about the discount, it’s about reducing waste.

Most importantly, commit to living a cleaner, greener lifestyle. This will benefit both you and the environment. Think grand scale: reduction in disposables is a reduction in manufacturing, reduction in pollution and contaminants. Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

Long Island Chiropractor Works to Change the Athletic Game By Jerry Del Priore

W

hen it comes to visiting a chiropractor, most people think of just getting their spines adjusted through manual manipulation. Dr. Brian Yodice, a chiropractor who operates Collaborative Chiropractic in Babylon, says it’s a lot more than that for him. In addition to treating average Janes and Joes, he works with a range of serious athletes, specializing in endurance competitors such as cyclists, triathletes, marathoners and swimmers. “I think we get pigeonholed a lot of the time,” Dr. Yodice, 43, said. “A lot of people think it’s all about cracking your back, but it’s not. It’s bigger than that for me. I take a holistic approach as far as the athletes are concerned.” On track for applying to medical school at Villanova University, Dr. Yodice said he was drawn to chiropractic because of its natural methodology to treating people. He decided to attend New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, N.Y., where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree in 1999. “I wanted something more hands on,” the Brooklyn native, who grew up in West Islip, explained. “I didn’t want to become one of those doctors that just treated the symptoms with scripts (prescriptions). I wanted to heal people the natural way.” After over 17 years of practice, Dr. Yodice still relishes in the opportunity to help individuals live a better, pain-free existence. “I love what I do. I love the hands-on approach,” said Dr. Yodice, who earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Comprehensive Science from Villanova University. “I love getting people back to what they do, and into a better lifestyle.” An accomplished athlete in soccer, diving, lacrosse and triathlon, Yodice’s treatment of injured athletes begins with reducing their

pain. He then moves on to restoring proper body function, ultimately getting them back to their respective sport—all by natural means, of course. Dr. Yodice’s rehabilitation approach encompasses several “passive methods”, such as electric muscle stimulation (EMS), ultrasound, ice, heat and vibratory massage. He also incorporates “active methods” including myofascial release (MFR)—a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle, which reduces pain and immobility. He utilizes Trigger Point Therapy and Active Release Technique (ART) to help heal joint stress and muscular pain. Once the athletes return to their sport, especially his endurance participants, Dr. Yodice works to improve their overall body mechanics in order to decrease the possibility of reinjuring themselves while improving their athletic performance. Dr. Yodice developed a boutique training facility, Tri Tech Training, dedicated to performance enhancement of endurance athletes through group training with specialized hitech training equipment. First, Dr. Yodice employs a run/gate analysis to help detect improper stride form, and make appropriate corrections. Then, he works on athletes’ specific flexibility needs and functional strength (exercises that mimic the athletes’ sport movements) to keep them at their present healthy athletic stage and/or reach new heights. Tri Tech Training also includes a cycling studio, fully equipped with a large screen TV, three Wahoo Kickr smart bike trainers controlled by an iPad, and 3 CycleOps bike trainers with space for 12. Plus, Tri Tech provides two treadmills, and various strength training apparatuses. Polar heart rate monitoring devices are used to gauge and monitor athletes’ metrics, such

as heart rate, power output, cadence, speed and distance. Yodice said it helps to create specific workouts and keep athletes within their target training zones. Furthermore, athletes can join scheduled group training sessions on the treadmills or bike trainers, and partake in functional strength training stints. Scheduling individual time to use the facility and its equipment privately is also available. Coaches and teams can also book the facility and its equipment to run their own training sessions. “The studio provides an ideal environment for training in the winter or during inclement weather,” Yodice said. “And it’s perfect for athletes that are time crunched, can't get outside to train, or are looking for and understand the benefits of controlled specialized workouts specific to their sport and training goals.” Overall, Dr. Yodice said he has his patients’ best interests at heart—always. “I want to give them all the tools to help prevent injury,” he said of the athletes he treats. “They’re going to be less likely to breakdown. Plus, if I can make them more efficient, I will make them better athletes.” Dr. Yodice emphasized the fact that he isn’t trying to change athletes’ training regimens, unless there’s obvious improper training being practiced. He’s just an adjunct to what they’re already doing, and works to return them to the playing fields in due course. “I’m not looking to take over what a coach is doing,” Dr. Yodice explained. “It’s not my job to step in and tell them what to do. My job is to make their bodies stronger and as efficient as possible, so they can perform at that level, or even get better.”

H E A LT H M AT T E R S

Allergy Relief without Medication By Anthony Cerabino, BM, LMT, MSLAC Allergy season is upon us again. This year we experienced spring “flirting” with winter. That means many spring flowers surfaced prematurely and were in full bloom a little early. The same can be said about weeds and grasses. As early as February, many patients had come into the center with sinus congestion, runny noses and wheezing. Attention allergy sufferers: NAET may be the answer you are looking for. NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique) is a medication-free, allergy relief technique which incorporates the medical disciplines of chiropractic, acupuncture, biochemistry and kinesiology testing. I call it “Acupuncture-Fusion”. Needles are not even essential to the treatment protocol. We can use an acupressure devise or a cold-laser light to stimulate

the acupuncture points for the “needle-shy” patient. The NAET protocol was created in 1983 and there are well over 16,000 practitioners worldwide. Simply stated, the NAET protocol resets the nervous system to accept the allergen without medication. There is no use of medications, inhalers or anti-histamines in the treatment protocol. A regular user of such drugs will be weaned off the drug protocol gracefully, and more importantly, in a safe and timely manner. An allergy can be expressed in many more ways than most people expect. Any system in the body can be affected by an allergen. The respiratory system may react with shortness of breath, wheezing, sinus congestion, sneezing and spontaneous sweating. The cardiovascular system may respond with a rapid heartbeat, atrial fibrillation and

chest tightness. The integumentary system (skin, hair, and nails) often exhibits either a rash in patches or throughout the body; or open skin sores, which can be an extreme eczema condition or dry, itchy skin. The entire body system can shut down from an extreme sensitivity to an allergen, as in an anaphylaxis shock, which would require an immediate treatment, usually with an epi-pen injecting the body with epinephrine. It is possible to be allergic to almost anything, not just the usual suspects such as wheat, peanuts, animal dander, pollen and molds. Some common examples of allergens are salt, sugar, caffeine, spice, alcohol, food coloring/additives, cotton, paper, artificial sweeteners, cleaning agents, gold, silver, petroleum products and the list goes on. When least expected,

an allergen could be the cause of your health problems. Other common pathologies, such as autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia syndrome, depression, systemic inflammation, frequent common colds, psoriasis, irregular menstrual cycles, and many other illnesses may be allergy related. Hundreds of NAET videos can be viewed on YouTube to gain a better understanding of this powerful, safe, clean and simple protocol. A very thorough and meticulous health history is paramount to getting results with NAET. I firmly believe proper care requires proper time spent with the patient. That should be the case when visiting any healthcare practitioner. May you enjoy all this beautiful spring has to offer…including the flowers!

OUR TRIBUTE

C E L E B R AT E W O M E N

We Celebrate Women

IN OUR SPRING ISSUE

In this issue we would like to pay special tribute to our mothers, grandmothers, sisters and aunts… to the women who have come and gone throughout the centuries, empowering and paving the way for other women. We wish to recognize and honor the women who are here today, leaving their mark, and making this world better.

“I don’t know what it is about food your mother makes for you, especially when it’s something that anyone can make pancakes, meatloaf, tuna salad - but it carries a taste of memory.” - Mitch Albom

PUBLISHER'S PICKS

“A great beauty must-know would be Drew Patrick's Signature Microdermabrasion Cream Exfoliator. After the harsh winter, we all need some extra exfoliation for our dull, dry skin. This easy-to-use product will uncover fresh, new, ultra smooth skin, while gently soothing and conditioning. Over time, Microdermabrasion Cream Exfoliator may reduce enlarged pores, and soften acne and other scars as well. Our product uses a combination of volcanic microcrystals, green tea, chamomile, and licorice along with jojoba, kuuku, borage, and sunflower oils to polish, soothe, condition, and revive your skin. It's a quick and simple step towards radiant skin!”

JANE IREDALE LIQUID MINERALS Hydrate your skin with this light-reflecting formula for sheer to medium coverage. It comes in a wide range of colors and is both corrective as well as nourishing. It always looks fresh, never heavy or cakey. "I love how Liquid Minerals looks and feels on my skin." -JL Are you wearing your sunscreen every day? According to dermatologists, you should be. In fact, if you plan to be outside for more than a quick run to your car, then that daily moisturizer with SPF 15 is probably giving you a false sense of sun protection security and your skin’s getting some new sun damage! For prolonged sun exposure, a water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or above is recommended. Look for sunscreens containing titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone or mexoryl as the active ingredient. Our Favorite Sunscreens
