Welcome Fall! Now that summer is behind us, and school is back in session, we are gearing up for a favorite season of mine...autumn. I enjoy the cooler temperatures, fall fashions and refocusing priorities. This is the time to get organized and do all of the things we have put off so to enjoy our lazy days of summer. For starters, make it a point to schedule overdue appointments for health and wellbeing… we all know that September and October are Ovarian and Breast Cancer Awareness months. Facing fall after an especially hot and humid summer, our skin and hair sure could use some professional TLC. Start fresh this fall; new season…new haircut or color. Sometimes making a simple change on the outside can spark positive change on the inside. Getting things back in order also means spending a little time reorganizing your closet. Swap out the flipflops and line up the boots! Sweater season is upon us and a new pair of jeans is exactly what my sweaters need. Our Great South Bay area has some wonderful boutiques brimming with fabulous finds for fall…we’ll share some inside this issue! Cooler temps have us shifting back inside. We know that many of you like to start up again with indoor projects come fall, and we certainly have inspirations and resources in this issue. I love decorating my home in September. From my front door to my home office there are signs of the season welcoming all who enter. We have some bright ideas for welcoming fall, starting with the right light. Our cover introduces you to a special source for extraordinary lighting fixtures for every room in your home, both inside and out. Game on sports fans! We have a selection of restaurants and pubs in our dining guide that offer a great set up for good food and big screens to watch your favorite teams. Many of our restaurants also offer take out, so you can enjoy your favorite eats from the comfort of your couch. Cheers from the crowd as Broadway is back! The curtains rise again in our own Argyle Theatre in Babylon Village with its opening show, the musical classic, Cabaret. We have the schedule for all of Argyle’s upcoming shows conveniently listed for you inside. As I write this letter, I realize that things may look different by the time you actually read it. We’ve all learned that our best-laid plans can get changed; we have to be ready to make adjustments along the way. Keep the important things in perspective: patience, kindness and gratitude should be front and center. The other stuff will fall into place. Spend time every day, even if it’s only a few moments, enjoying your family, your friends and your home. Right now I’m wrapped up in a warm, cozy blanket, sipping soup out of an enormous mug while watching the rain fall outside my window. I just love autumn.

Enjoy!

SPOTLIGHT ON BABYLON LOCALS BILL & SHARON MITCHELL

MUST KNOW

Husband & Wife Dynamic Duo We last wrote about Bill & Sharon Mitchell as the south shore’s own Chip and Joanna. However, unlike the HGTV Fixer Upper couple, this Babylon couple started with, and still enjoy, separate careers: his as a builder; hers in real estate. At times, the stars align; their paths cross, and they are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate on a project and build something beautiful together. This usually does happen several times a year, and by no means is limited to fixer uppers. Similar to HGTV’s “Love It or List It” duo, the Mitchells frequently face the task of figuring out what the best option is for their client: renovating their present situation… or moving to a new home. Either way, their greatest accomplishment is transforming a house into a home that their clients love to live in. Fix it, love it, or list it, this Dynamic Duo is equipped to do it all. LIST: Sharon, we know Bill’s expertise is building; we would like to know more about you. Please tell us about your background. Sharon: I first got my real estate license in 1978 and worked on and off while raising a family. In 1994, we decided to promote Bill’s contracting business and organized a local home show which we ran for 12 years at Farmingdale College. We had special guests like Bob Villa, Richard Karn (aka Al from “Tool Time” on the hit TV series Home Improvement), Jodi Marks and Pat Simpson, who are HGTV experts on building, renovating, and remodeling. We sold that show, and I went back to real estate. I’ve been working for Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Babylon ever since. Working as a realtor, I get to change people’s lives and make them happy. Whether they are buying their first home, moving up, or moving on, it’s always different, always a challenge and I love what I do. I love my clients. I get to meet the best people. It’s always a new day with a new client. LIST: What unique skills do you possess that have contributed to your success? Sharon: I have an abundance of knowledge in regard to building, renovating, and houses in general, which is extremely beneficial when negotiations take place. I can also give clients an idea of what’s involved and approximate costs when they are considering updating or renovating a property. I’m good at assessing what their needs are first, how much there

is to work with, and how we can make it happen. LIST: What kind of projects do you do with your husband? Sharon: Bill’s clients sometimes are not sure whether to renovate or sell. I can help him with that decision and vice versa. If I have a client who is running out of space and thinking of selling, but they love where they live, Bill can offer ideas for expanding and give an estimate for how much it will cost to make the home work for them. Sometimes I lose a sale, buy my client is much happier. LIST: What do you like most about how you and your husband work together? Sharon: When he thinks I’m right, lol! Actually, when the project comes out perfect. We love the WOW effect when people see the skill Bill brings to the table. I love staging homes and creating a place that a buyer can see themselves living in. Bill and I both take pride in what we do. We produce a great product. No matter how small the home, we use high-end appliances, custom moldings, and special touches that bring a lot of pride to our companies. We believe a small home deserves the same quality as our million dollar homes. Quality and ambiance is very important to both of us. Bill: Home is where the heart is; living, working and enjoying our local communities is something close to our hearts. We were both born and raised here. Having raised 3 strong, healthy, educated women in a town and community that we hold close in our hearts makes us very proud to live and serve here. There is nothing nicer than seeing a customer who we made happy in their space out in town…it’s the best feeling.

MUST KNOW

HEART OF THE HOME

Heart of the Home: Rooms for Living In Where is the heart of your home? Many would say, without hesitation, “the kitchen.” But some may ponder a moment, then respond “the family room.” Growing up, we had a ‘den,’ which was the 70’s version of today’s family room. It was just off the kitchen, sunlit from three walls lined with windows. It was big enough to fit a rocking chair, two mismatched loveseats, a pea green arm chair, and a large antique sideboard used to store school workbooks, board games, jigsaw puzzles, envelopes full of photographs, dog toys, and pretty much all household junk in need of a home. The furniture lined the walls in circle formation, with a 21-inch color TV visible from every seat. We LIVED in that room. Sick days were spent napping on the loveseats. Afterschool TV specials, soap operas, prime-time sitcoms or madefor-TV movies were watched daily by my entire family. It was where we sat when friends casually stopped by. Without question, that den was the heart of our home. Fast forward to 2021, my family room serves that purpose in our home today. Same scenario, except I have a much nicer sectional, no mismatched loveseats (no offense, mom!). So, with no disrespect to the kitchen, we all know much of our lives do revolve around that room, but at the end of the day, it's the family or living room where we go to kick back and relax, watch movies with family, and entertain houseguests. When you think about it, the living room is suitably named: it's where we go to live; to just be.

The layout and furniture need to accommodate a variety of situations. In addition to having child-friendly couches and tables, usually meaning fewer sharp edges and less exotic materials, there needs to be a good amount of open space in the middle of the room for running around and spontaneous dancing. Perhaps the family room does win the title of the heart of the home in your house...so where does that leave the living room? Runner up? Decidedly not. The living room is often that special sanctuary…a quiet place to read, sip a cup of tea or enjoy a glass of wine. Depending on your personal style and preference, your living room may be a more formal gathering place. Works of art, beautiful tables, grand light fixtures, high-end furniture and rugs can give your living room an air of elegance and sophistication. This is the room to invest in; go a little extravagant on an opulent light fixture or special piece of artwork…conversational pieces. Be it your kitchen, family or living room, the heart of your home is the space where you live, laugh and love with family and friends. It’s where memories are made. It’s the place that your heart brings you back to when your feet walk away. May yours always be blessed. - The LIST Team

Family Room vs. Living Room They may sound like the same kind of room, and there are some overlaps, but the terms actually refer to different types of spaces that serve different purposes. Family rooms are typically less formal than living rooms. They are a comfortable space to gather and relax in, be it a large group or just you. Family rooms are also spaces where children can play.

ENCHANTED GARDEN

Wine Tasting in Your Own Enchanted Garden Start a new tradition this fall by hosting a wine tasting party in your own backyard. Avoid the traffic and crowded vineyards… this is a great event to plan for this time of year that friends and family will love getting together for.

Ask each guest to bring a bottle of red or white wine - $25 tops. It’s a great way to find a good, inexpensive bottle of wine.

own glass throughout the party. There are really fun charms sold in our local home accessories stores, or Google them for an easy DIY.

“Blind taste-testing” prevents any pre-judging and ups the fun-factor. Cover the wine label (not your guests’ eyes!) with cut-out shapes of leaves, pumpkins, acorns, or anything seasonal…pieces of festive fabric also do the trick.

A fall-themed table setting can evoke a harvest feel, or conjure up a bit of darkness… especially if your gathering is close to Halloween.

Place a jar full of pencils and a stack of notepaper on your table for guests to jot down comments and rate the wines, and also a decorative canister to drop the comments into. Ask your guests to identify the bottle of wine they comment on by the shape covering the label (the “White Pumpkin”; the “Red Maple Leaf”, etc.) Read the comments and rate the wines as part of the fun. Reveal the labels at the end of your party. It’s a good idea to have wine glass charms on the wine glasses so guests sip from their

Multiple pumpkins and candles in various colors and sizes, along with other natural elements atop a wooden table adorned with nutmeg-colored fabric sets a rustic harvest feel. For a slightly-spooky feel, include some hauntingly festive pieces and linens. A black velvet tablecloth draped over your table gives off a splendidly dark vibe. Nothing says sumptuous like dark velvet linens. But be warned…rumor has it vampires love black velvet and red wine. If you prefer to keep things more sophisticated, forego Halloween décor on your table

and use various tableware pieces in shades of green, deep purples, and black. Opt for white pumpkins instead of orange. The color scheme will suggest Halloween without screaming it.

Have large baskets filled with plush seasonal throws for guests to grab and wrap up in when the temps start to drop.

Finger foods, sliced fresh fruits, charcuterie and cheese platters pair perfectly with wine. Add a splash of creepy by placing a skeleton hand on your charcuterie spread.

Outdoor lighting will keep your party lively after sunset. Lanterns, string lights, and outdoor sconces add just enough light to set an eerie mood.

As the sun goes down…

Walk Therapy By Corinne Brown, Founder and Owner of Fitness Incentive, Babylon Village

It's 3:45am. My eyes open, and I'm ready to go! I know you're thinking - why so early? What is she doing? She must be crazy! That's just me being me. My body wakes up naturally at that time; I'm guessing it's because I've been doing it consistently for so many years. And it works for me. I'm at my best in the early hours, sharp-minded and energetic. The wee hours are when I do the books for our businesses, the laundry, cleaning, baking, or prep the evening's meal. Around 5am, my friends arrive for our walk. It's a more-or-less steady group that I adore: sometimes only one, and occasionally up to seven people, including kids – one, believe it or not, 11-year-old who has more energy than most people I know. A future FI instructor for sure! Some in the first group have to get back to my house by 6am, where we meet with a second group of friends who don't have to be at work until 9am. We continue to walk for another hour to an hour and a half. We trek in any weather: wind, rain, snow, blizzards - I mean it. We take the postman's creed seriously. The time we spend is priceless; we walk, we talk, we laugh, and sometimes cry. We cover just about anything and everything; it's like a therapy workout. When I get home, I'm so ready to conquer the rest of my day! My husband gets up, we have a cup of green tea together and discuss the day's events. Then I'm off to Fitness Incentive to teach my class (or classes), which is my passion. I find that walking helps me be a better instructor; it relaxes me, clears my head, invigorates my mind, my body, and even my soul. It enables me to be more effective in everything I do. If you make walking a regular weekly routine, it can be done at any hour that works for you. You’ll be amazed at how your body responds and sets you up for the best day. Shoot for consistency – as with anything worthwhile, you must do it regularly to get the greatest benefit.

FALL INTO FASHION We checked in with some of our favorite fashion Stylistas for a peek at what’s in style this fall…

Renee Goldfarb, Origin of Era Boutique, Bay Shore Jackie DiDonato, Pandemonium Boutique, Babylon Village Theresa Ribarich, The Boutique, Babylon Village

Get Dressed “Right now fashion is trending away from leisure wear,” stated Renee Goldfarb, owner of Origin of Era Boutique in Bay Shore. “The pandemic was all about comfort, now women are ready to get back to fun styles - but that doesn’t mean forgoing comfort! Women are buying more dresses… they are easy, comfy, and look fantastic.” The Nap Dress. “A beautiful and simple silhouette that can be worn out to dinner or lounging around the house. Keep the dresses flowy with a bohemian print and you can wear that dress just about anywhere. Add a wool felt rancher or fedora to accent this style perfectly.”

The Color of Fall

Available at Origin of Era

Saturated Hues. “When we use ‘saturated’ in reference to a garment, it means saturation of color on a fabric. We are seeing a lot of deep distressed saturated colors being used as accent pieces this fall. For example, a floral dress may have a panel of saturated red that has been distressed. Distressed denim has always been a thing, but now we are seeing heavily saturated and distressed borders and panels on beautiful florals.”

Fashions On Trend this Season

“We are super excited about the colors this fall,” said Jackie DiDonato, owner of Pandemonium Boutique, Babylon Village. “You will be seeing a lot of army green and terracotta, beautiful colors, almost neutrals. Jewel tones are also always a fall favorite. If you are having trouble deciding which colors look best on you, then consult a professional stylist. You will be pleasantly surprised how many different styles look fabulous on you. It can really lift up your wardrobe and your mood.” “I’m very excited about all the sweaters, belts, and other vintage designer accessories I have been curating all summer long for the fall season – it’s my favorite,” stated Theresa Ribarich, owner of The Boutique, Babylon Village. “Vibrant colors are on trend this fall…they can be really fun to wear! The Boutique doesn’t necessarily follow all the season’s new trends; we are very eclectic in our style. We thrive on the fact that ‘classic’ never goes out." Have fun with the new colors this fall and don’t shy away from mixing prints if the colors work together. Most importantly, what makes these fall trends fabulous is that they are truly fashion classics.

'90s Revival. “Ageless, we see it every day on younger to more mature women. I love it… it’s really an era anyone can wear. It’s as simple as a band T-shirt or gingham dress. Either is perfect for any age.” Sweater Vests. “YES!!!! The Grandpa vest. Wear it solo as a shirt, or layered and open as a sweater. Wear that comfy piece over anything you want!”

“The ‘Mom’ jean and a looser fit are definitely on trend. The loose-fitting denim pairs perfectly with a more fitted top,” commented Jackie DiDonato. “And for you animal print lovers...game on! Printed bottoms are a staple this fall.”

Better in Boots. Cowboy and western boots are on everyone’s feet these days. Worth splurging on, high quality Cowboy boots are well-made and comfortable. If western boots are not your thing, try slipping on a pair of clogs or clog boots. These bring a great 70s vibe that works well with wide leg denims or jumpsuits.

“The new jean styles in all the fresh new washes will probably be my most favorite "newness" in The Boutique,” remarked Theresa. “Fabulous jean styles this fall…wide leg, flare… bells are one of my favorites.”

Handbags Got the Boot. Fanny packs are the bag of the moment… medium-sized in leather that can be worn as a belt or cross body. Find a nice worn brown, it will look perfect with any style you lean into this season.

Available at The Boutique

Forever in Blue Jeans Loose-Fit Denim. “Loose-fit boyfriend and genie jeans are having a moment. The 70s have had a huge influence on what we are seeing on the streets. Don’t be surprised to see high-waisted wide bells!”

LUXE BLOWDRY & COLOR BAR

Now a full-service salon & so much more! Have you longed to visit a beauty salon that feels a little bit like home? A place of both comfort and luxury? Look no further than Luxe Blowdry & Color Bar, a full-service salon offering amazing blowouts, cut and color, in-salon makeup and on-location bridal hair and makeup. With two storefronts, Huntington and Bay Shore, Luxe is a must-go for those looking to add a bit of affordable luxury to their lives. We recently chatted with salon owner, Jennifer Frisina, and got the inside scoop on what makes Luxe different from other hair salons. LIST: Please tell us a little about you your business, your backstory, and your new location in Bay Shore. LUXE: I began my career in the beauty industry as J.R.S. Makeup Artistry from my kitchen table, providing makeup and hair services for brides. I then expanded into a cute little storefront in Babylon Village in 2017, which became Luxe & Co. Blowdry Bar, offering beautiful blowouts and special event hair and makeup. In 2018, I opened my second location in Huntington Village, wanting to bring the same love for all-things-hair and makeup to the north shore. In March of 2020, we were forced to close due to the pandemic. As we were getting ready to reopen, we realized we were not going to survive as just a blowdry bar, as there were no weddings or special events taking place. As a result, we created Luxe Blowdry and Color Bar in Bay Shore. We now offer our clients the same amazing long-lasting blowouts with memberships and packages. We have added a vegan color line, cuts, extensions, anti-frizz treatments, and makeup, including a beautiful treatment room for facials and lashes. LIST: When I visited your beautiful new space in Bay Shore, I was wowed by your gorgeous hair, and yet I had no idea it was extensions! What can you tell our readers

about the hair extensions you offer at Luxe?

last longer than with your natural hair.

LUXE: One of the most exciting services we offer here at Luxe is human hair extensions. I have had them in my hair for 2 ½ years, and they have enhanced how I look and feel beyond words. As you age, it's natural for a woman’s hair to thin out or break off at a certain point - extensions can enhance fullness, length, or both! Our extensions fall into three categories: beaded, tape, and weft. We will happily and thoroughly explain the intricate details of each when you come in for a consultation.

Whichever extensions you choose, they are all completely natural-looking, and nobody will know you have them in your hair. You can utilize them for extra fullness or length, and we can color them if you do a single process, or even highlight them to match the color of your hair. All human hair extensions can be colored or highlighted. You can even order extensions in different tones than your own hair to create high and low lights without coloring. All of our stylists who install extensions are certified extension specialists.

Extensions take approximately 3 hours to install and have to be lifted every 4-6 weeks, depending on how quickly your own hair grows. Extensions are easy to care for, but they do require a little bit of love. We suggest coming in once a week to wash and blow them to maintain their excellent condition. Another bonus about extensions is that your blowout or curl style will

LIST: Please tell us a little about your bridal team at Luxe. LUXE: Luxe Bridal is as passionate about doing weddings as we are about blowouts and styling. As a Luxe Bridal client, you and your wedding party will be our main focus; we take care of you and tend to all your needs on your wedding day. From providing a timeline, to staying for touch ups, our bridal staff is full-service. All of our bridal team members have been specially trained and have years of hands-on experience with bridal hair and makeup, assuring our brides and bridal parties a flawless outcome. We are an award winning bridal team and our sole purpose is to make you feel beautiful!

At the heart of Luxe is both luxury and community. It's a place to come for a fabulous blowout, an expert cut, color, extensions, lashes, or even a Magic Sleek treatment (this organic, anti-frizz system is formaldehyde-free!) One of hardest parts of cancer treatment is getting used to looking in the mirror. The side effects of treatment can change everything: your complexion, hair, nails, eyelashes and eyebrows. Monday’s services have helped cancer patients look and feel more like themselves, which resulted in a marked improvement in their mental and emotional health. Physicians and oncologists began referring their patients to Mondays when they recognized that the mirror was a powerful tool in the recovery process.

CANCER DIDN’T STOP, SO NEITHER DID WE

“We provide the human connection,” says Karla Waldron, executive director of Mondays at Racine. “Once you’re diagnosed with cancer, people stop touching. They don’t know what to say and they don’t know how to touch you,” she adds. If a patient recently had a chemo port put in, has an open wound or a skin rash, the Monday’s team of professional, licensed practitioners are all trained to safely interact with them and address their specific vulnerabilities and needs. During the Covid-19 lockdown, the Monday’s staff worked on expanding their online programs to reach as many patients as possible, prompting the creation of ‘Mondays at Home’. The Mondays at Home program offers patients direct access to on-demand videos featuring yoga, meditation, beauty, health and nutrition. Virtual workshops, one-on-one virtual

appointments with a nurse practitioner, and a Facebook group, Monday’s Marvels, all helped to support patients who could not leave home. Unfortunately, due to the lockdown, many people put off seeing their doctor for regular checkups and tests, and as a result cancer diagnoses have soared. And Mondays has seen a 35% increase in patient requests for services. Waldron remains undaunted by the surge of requests; it’s made her even more determined to expand services all over Long Island. With the support of New York Cancer and Blood Specialists and Northwell Health, the ‘Mondays on the Move’ program was expanded to provide therapeutic health, wellness and beauty services on-site at their medical facilities while patients are receiving treatment.

MONDAYS IS NOW MONDAYS EVERYDAY

‘Mondays Everyday’ is also addressing a large segment of our population who are living below the poverty level while undergoing cancer treatment.

With the support of the beauty and wellness industries, the Monday’s network of services currently range from appearance-enhancing to therapeutic, including: • Hair Care, Scalp and Wig Care • Makeup and Skincare • Nail Care • Massage • Reflexology and Reiki • Yoga • Nutrition Services • Meditation • Acupuncture

Many have never experienced in-salon treatments, so Mondays is working with several partners, like YMCA of LI and Costello’s Ace Hardware, who can assist with space in local community centers in order to offer services not just once a month, but every day. “We believe there is a vital need for cancer care services in lower-income areas, ” Waldron says. She adds, “We see firsthand the impact our services have on our patients, so increasing access to them has become our primary focus, ‘Mondays Everyday’ is our mission and our mantra.

Volunteer, donate or help broaden our outreach as an integral part of our team. We are always seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about giving back to their community and who have a passion for the work of the Mondays at Racine Cancer Care Foundation. If you or anyone you know are going through cancer and would like more information, please contact us at info@mondaysatracine.org.

First presented in 1966, Cabaret won an impressive 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, which then culminated into a smashing Oscar Winning film in 1972. Still regarded today as ‘musical theatre at its best’, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Mark and Dylan Perlman, Argyle Theatre’s Managing Partners, shared “We are thrilled to reopen with Cabaret, a truly thought-provoking, groundbreaking musical.” They went on to say, “Come join us at the Kit Kat Klub in 1930’s Berlin, where patrons search for escape while the seeds of intolerance are fomenting. Be captivated in a time and place where nothing is certain except for one’s dreams.” Cabaret will run from

THINK BEFORE YOU YAP ONLINE

Where Everyone is Family with Family Style Dining

People may not realize that any sort of online review has the power to either make or break a business.

What to consider before posting a review. Many restaurants are still experiencing an intensely difficult time. Online reviews can dramatically affect a business — for better or for worse. Most restaurants strive to do their best, but unexpected things can happen. Even the best of restaurants can have an off night. Instead of going public with a negative review, why not bring it right to their attention? Most restaurants want to take care of it right away…and they do.

Not everything is in a restaurant’s control. If you want to help restaurants as they struggle through the pandemic, here’s some guidance from industry professionals regarding online reviews: “Our cost of goods and food items have increased 30-50%. I can’t help it that certain menu items were in short supply,

thus very expensive, or out of stock because suppliers’ plants shut down due to COVID. We’re doing the best we can, it’s unfair to write a negative review for something completely out of our control.”

“Before you write a negative review, talk to somebody at the restaurant right then and there. If that isn’t possible because management is busy, then call the next day before the restaurant opens and have a conversation before you write a post. You may get information about the previous day that might change your perspective.” Remember, the people working in the restaurants want you to have an enjoyable experience. We are still in a pandemic; please continue to visit and support our local restaurants, just bring a little patience and understanding with you.

RECIPES

Fried Mac and Cheese Bites Always a crowd pleaser! Perfect for entertaining. IN GR ED IEN TS

• 12 oz. (about 4 cups) elbow macaroni • 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour • 1 ½ cups milk • ½ tsp. salt • ¼ tsp. black pepper • Pinch cayenne pepper • 2 cups shredded cheddar

• 4 oz. thinly sliced deli American cheese, cut into thin strips • 1 cup shredded mozzarella • 2 large eggs • 1 box (8 oz.) Italian seasoned panko bread crumbs • 6 cups peanut or vegetable oil for frying

Vinny's Hot Wings A popular staple for any game or weekend get-together. ING RE DI E N TS

• • • •

1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. paprika 1/4 tsp. cumin 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper (or to taste) • 1/4 tsp. salt

• • • • • •

10 chicken wings Oil for deep frying 1/4 cup butter 1/3 cup hot sauce 1 dash ground black pepper 1 dash garlic powder

D IRECT I ON S

1. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper and salt. Place chicken wings in a large glass dish or bowl and sprinkle flour mixture over them until they are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 60 to 90 minutes. 2. Pour enough oil to cover wings entirely into a deep fryer and heat to 375 degrees. I recommend using a frying thermometer and starting at 385 degrees; once you drop the wings in keep oil at 375 degrees. Fry coated wings in hot oil for 10 to 15 minutes, or until wings begin to turn brown. Remove from heat, place wings on a rack to drip-dry. 3. Combine the butter, hot sauce, pepper and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir together until butter is melted and mixture is well blended. Remove from heat. 4. Pour some of the hot sauce mixture into a large mixing bowl and add wings, stirring gently. I prefer the swirl and flip method, just a few at a time, and not to overcoat them. Repeat with remaining sauce if done in batches. Plate and serve.

Blue Cheese Dressing A quick and easy blue cheese dressing to perfectly complete your wings. ING RE DI E N TS

• • • •

1/4 cup sour cream 1/4 cup mayonnaise 2 oz. crumbled blue cheese 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice (optional)

• Pinch fine sea salt & fresh ground black pepper • Celery sticks

D IRECT I ON S

Combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, blue cheese, lemon juice, salt and pepper in a small bowl and stir until well blended and creamy. Use the back of a spoon to press some of the blue cheese crumbles into the sauce for even more flavor. The dressing will be thick, which makes it perfect for dips. Serve with celery sticks.

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook 7 minutes, or per package directions; drain. 2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour, cooking until bubbly. While whisking, add 1 ¼ cups of the milk in a thin stream. Season with salt, black pepper and cayenne. Bring to a simmer and cook 2 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in 1 cup of the cheddar and the American cheese. 3. Add macaroni to a large bowl. Fold cheese sauce into macaroni. Let cool slightly, then stir in mozzarella and remaining 1 cup of cheddar. Spread mac & cheese onto a rimmed sheet or shallow baking pan. Cover with plastic and refrigerate overnight. 4. Scoop out about 1/4 cup of the mac & cheese mixture at a time and shape into 2 to 3 inch balls, compressing slightly. Place balls on sheet of waxed paper. 5. Whisk eggs with remaining 1/4 cup milk. Dip balls in egg mixture, then coat in panko bread crumbs. 6. In a deep 4-quart pot, heat oil to 360° on a deep-fry thermometer. Fry 6 or 7 mac & cheese bites at a time for 3 - 4 minutes per batch, until golden. Serve immediately. Makes about 30 bites.

Apple Cider Doughnut Cake Topped with cinnamon sugar and an apple cider glaze, this moist and delicious bundt cake tastes exactly like an apple cider doughnut from your favorite apple orchard. ING RE DI E N TS

D I R E C T IO N S

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the dry cake mix, apple cider, apple sauce, water, and eggs. 3. Add in cinnamon (1/4 tsp), brown sugar, and vanilla to the cake mix batter. 4. Pour the mixture into a well-greased AND floured Bundt pan.

• Yellow cake mix • ¾ cup apple cider (NOT apple juice) • ¼ cup water, room temperature (you can omit the water for a stronger cider taste, just use 1 cup apple cider instead of ¾ cup) • ¼ tsp. cinnamon • ½ cup apple sauce • 3 large eggs, room temperature • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar • 1 tsp. vanilla

5. Place Bundt pan on center rack and bake for 45 minutes. Test with a toothpick by sticking into the middle of the cake, if it comes out clean it is ready. Remove from heat and allow to cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes.

Topping • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon • ¼ cup sugar • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

3. Sprinkle/rub the cinnamon sugar mixture over the cake until the whole cake is evenly coated.

Topping & Glaze 1. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar. 2. Once the cake has cooled, brush the entire surface of the cake with the melted butter.
