Pecan Pie Squares

These sweet & tasty bars are a fun twist on the traditional classic pecan pie. Chocolate can be added, which pairs wonderfully with the pecans. Give these a try…you may have a new family favorite for the holidays!

INGREDIENTS

• 1 ½ cups flour

• ¼ cup brown sugar, packed

• ½ cup butter, softened

• 3 eggs, slightly beaten

• ½ cup sugar

• ¾ cup corn syrup

• 2 Tbsp. melted butter

• ½ tsp. salt

• 1 tsp. vanilla

• 1 ½ cup pecan halves, chopped

• 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

DIRECTIONS1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.

2. Prepare crust: combine flour, brown sugar, and softened butter in a medium sized bowl and beat with an electric mixer until crumbly. Press evenly into bottom of prepared pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes.

3. While crust is baking, whisk together eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, corn syrup, and melted butter in a medium sized bowl. Fold in pecans and chocolate chips if using them.

4. When crust is done baking, pour mixture over top of warm crust and bake for 25 - 30 minutes, or until filling is set.

5. Allow to cool completely on wire rack before cutting into squares.
