DINING GUIDE 3, 14, 16, 19-23

REAL ESTATE 24–31

Joanne Lifavi

Dear Readers,

The season we’ve all been waiting for is finally here, and we’re so glad you picked up our summer issue. As you flip through, make a note of the events you’d like to go to, organized by date, and the live music spots worth checking out. Then take a look at our “Vacation Vibes After Five” to see what’s happening every day of the week.

Our feel-good magazine is designed to be coffee-table friendly. We hope you’ll keep this one close and come back to it all season long.

If you know a business to suggest, want to submit an editorial, event or other inquiry, email the publisher at joanne@thelistmagazine.com

Published four times a year, The LIST Magazine is a lifestyle magazine for the Great South Bay coastal communities. Most of our distribution is mailed from Babylon to Great River, south of Montauk Highway, and to all of Brightwaters. In addition, our magazines are available for pick- up in shops throughout our local villages and, in the summer months, on Fire Island at select markets and restaurants.

In this issue, we introduce a few inspiring people behind their businesses and services. What they all have in common is a focus on the people they serve. That same spirit runs through every business we highlight, whether it’s a profile, a local favorite, or a new spot we think you’ll love. You’ll see that especially in our cover story, a neighborhood favorite built on culture, community, and the simple idea that when you take care of your team, they take great care of everyone else.

You may have also noticed more QR codes popping up in recent issues. They’re a way of giving you a little more from The List and helping you get more from the businesses you see. If something catches your eye, just scan—whether it’s a menu, more info, a property to explore, or an immediate way to reserve your table or get tickets.

And if you enjoy The List, look for our QR code to follow us on Instagram. Our Reels, Stories, and posts bring up-to-date happenings and even more local discoveries. It’s a way to get more social with us, beyond the magazine. Plus, when you follow us on social media, you’ll have access to entering our summer gift card giveaways from restaurants and businesses we think you’ll enjoy.

Find a comfortable spot, grab a drink, and dive in!

Wishing you sunny days, barefoot moments, and an easy, fun-filled summer.

Seaside Sounds of Summer

A Slice of Community, Culture, and Connection

On Long Island’s South Shore, The Pizzeria Group has built a bit of a cult following, and fast. In just the last few years, they’ve expanded to seven busy locations: Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, Islip, Bayport, Lake Grove, Babylon, and most recently, Smithtown. You might think it’s because of pizza, and yes, ask around, the food is delicious. But the team behind it will tell you it's something much deeper. The Pizzeria’s success isn’t just about great food, it’s fueled by a culture of care that extends to guests and the team of employees who serve them.

This year alone, The Pizzeria Group will be home to over two million customer interactions. Rather than focusing on the daunting scale of two million moments, they focus on one much smaller but more significant number: 200 — the number of employees across their restaurants. Their simple philosophy is to take extraordinary care of those 200 people, and in turn they will take extraordinary care of the two million guests who walk through the doors.

The leadership team works closely with performance coach Julia Johnson, founder of Inventing Self, to cultivate a culture rooted in personal growth, accountability, and authentic connection. There’s even a Chief Happiness Officer on staff, someone whose role is to check in, boost morale, and recognize team members in both big and small moments whether they’ve had a tough shift or just welcomed a new baby.

“We view this company as a platform for growth,” says co-founder Cliff Weinstein. “We invest in our people by providing them with tools to help

them rise. Whether that growth is professional or personal, we want every person here to feel supported, challenged, and empowered to reach higher.”

Pizzeria Group founders Paul Saccoccio, Dan Saccoccio, and Cliff Weinstein first met playing soccer on Long Island. What started on the field years earlier ultimately became a partnership built on teamwork, hustle, creativity, and a deep appreciation for how food and hospitality—mixed with a good sense of humor—bring people together.

Brothers Paul and Dan grew up in the business. Their father, Gino, founded the iconic Gino’s of Ronkonkoma and passed down not just a love for pizza, but the heart behind running a restaurant. To this day, Gino joins his sons to make the first pie at each new location, a powerful and meaningful tradition that continues to honor the roots behind their story.

Each of The Pizzeria’s locations blends modern design with a neighborhood feel, laid back enough for sports moms and families, yet cool enough for date night or drinks with friends. Select locations feature full-service bars where guests can enjoy a cocktail, order dinner, or grab a slice right at the counter. Some spots even offer live music and community events.

And the menu? It’s more than pizza (though that’s hard to beat). Fan favorite pies like Uncle Benny and Aunt Danielle, named after family members, are just the start. Think

freshly baked focaccia sandwiches, handmade meatballs, and a house-made vinaigrette that’s borderline addictive. On top of that, there’s a catering lineup that makes you look like a party-throwing genius. Whether it’s dining in, takeout, or delivery, The Pizzeria delivers more than a meal, it delivers connection.

The Pizzeria also makes a point of giving back. They’ve become a go-to fundraising partner for local schools, PTAs, and sports teams, offering make-your-own pizza kits that turn a night in into a meaningful community event. What truly sets The Pizzeria apart is that they offer their popular field trips completely free of charge— something that’s almost unheard of. It’s a reflection of the founders’ values: they don’t just talk about community, they invest in it. When students come to the restaurant, they learn to make their own pizza, and leave not only with a certificate and a core memory, but also a T-shirt that makes them feel like they’re part of something bigger—creating a sense of belonging not easily forgotten.

It’s this blend of service, tradition, and purpose that sets the brand apart.

In the end, it’s not just about pizza, it’s about people. As the team says, “People don’t return to a restaurant. They return to a feeling.”

And at The Pizzeria, that feeling is always something worth coming back for.

Advanced Spine Care with a Personal Touch

Chronic neck or back pain doesn’t just hurt—it can be debilitating. It can impact sleep, limit mobility, and disrupt even the most routine parts of daily life. That’s where Dr. William McCormick steps in—as a skilled neurosurgeon dedicated to listening closely, evaluating thoroughly, and developing a personalized plan to help patients feel better and return to the life they love.

Dr. McCormick begins each consultation by giving patients space to speak freely.

“When a new patient comes in, I give them time to tell me why they’re here and what they’re hoping to get out of our visit,” Dr. McCormick says. “I find that patients don’t feel we’re really listening anymore, and I want to assure them from the beginning that we are.”

With over two decades of experience as a board-certified neurosurgeon, Dr. McCormick has helped thousands of patients find relief from back and neck pain—starting with the least invasive options first. He conducts a comprehensive evaluation, including review of MRI imaging, to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to each patient’s condition and needs.

That personalized plan begins before the patient even steps into the room. “I review their imaging before the visit and generally try to provide conservative measures such as physical or chiropractic therapy initially,” he explains. “If that’s already been tried without relief, pain management options are often indicated. I work with great pain management physicians. Unless there’s a risk of permanent nerve injury or neurologic deficit, surgery is then considered as the last resort.”

His philosophy is clear: conservative care first, with surgery reserved for cases where conventional treatments have not provided adequate relief.

He also understands how overwhelming the thought of surgery can be. “It’s normal to be nervous about surgery,” he says. “Sometimes a second visit with a spouse or family member helps. I also encourage second opinions with other spine

surgeons—I want them to feel confident in whatever decision they make.”

Dr. McCormick received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He completed his neurosurgical training at the renowned Cleveland Clinic, where he conducted advanced research in spinal biomechanics and received the Department of Neurosurgery Humanitarian Award. Today, he serves as President of the Medical Board and Chairman of the Neurosurgical/ Comprehensive Stroke Center Peer Review Committee at Good Samaritan University Hospital.

Based on Long Island, Dr. McCormick serves Suffolk and Nassau counties with a reputation for honesty, compassion, and results. Patients consistently describe him as deeply attentive—always taking the time to answer questions, review scans himself, and make direct follow-up calls after procedures.

His dedication doesn’t end in the operating room. “I don’t believe you can be a successful physician without committing to caring for your patients—especially after performing their surgery,” he says.

His unique approach begins with an honest, thorough conversation— addressing not only symptoms but also lifestyle and the impact of pain on daily activities. He’s recognized for taking the time to walk patients through their treatment plan clearly— without rushing. The result? Many patients who feared they’d never get back to a normal life are now walking, working, traveling, and living without the pain that once defined them.

SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION

Dr. McCormick takes a patientcentered approach, helping individuals find real relief from back and neck pain.

If you or someone you love is struggling, give his office a call to schedule a consultation. It could be the first step toward lasting comfort and getting back to the life you love.

Refreshing Waters

We all know hydration is important, but water does more than quench thirst. It supports digestion, cushions joints, keeps skin supple, and helps maintain energy. Even mild dehydration can leave you foggy, cranky, or dragging through your day.

The Mayo Clinic recommends about 2.7 liters of water daily for women and 3.7 liters for men, from both water and food sources. If that sounds like a chore, here’s the good news: infused water makes every sip more enjoyable and something you’ll want to finish.

Add fruits, herbs, or veggies for a boost of natural flavor and benefits—no sugar, no additives, just a fresh twist.

Favorite Infusions:

LEMON Brightens flavor, supports digestion, and adds vitamin C

BLUEBERRIES Antioxidant-rich and brain-boosting

CUCUMBER Extra hydrating and skin-loving ORANGE Boosts immunity and adds natural sweetness

LIST Pick: Kirkland Signature Frozen Organic Blueberries from Costco. Toss them into your water bottle straight from the freezer. They make it cold, refreshing, and delicious. Enjoy an extra bit of healthy deliciousness and eat the berries when you're done with the water.

Luxury, convenience, and expert service— all at no extra cost to you. From trade-ins and lease returns to securing the latest models, we handle every detail We Do the Legwork. You Enjoy the Ride.

Skip the Showroom: How Long Island Auto Concierge Is Changing the Way We Buy Cars

Let’s face it, car shopping isn’t usually fun. Between the negotiations over pricing and the hours spent at the dealership, the process often feels overwhelming. So when we heard about Long Island Auto Concierge, a local Islip-based service that simplifies everything to do with buying or leasing a car, we had to learn more.

Founder Larry Strauch spent two decades in upper-level management at traditional dealerships before launching the concierge service. “I wanted to take everything I learned over the years and put it to better use helping people avoid the stress and confusion that often comes with buying or leasing a new car,” he tells us. “No pressure, no finance guy, no wasted hours. Just an easier way.”

“It’s about delivering a truly exceptional experience without the usual dealership hassle,” he adds.

From the moment you reach out, the team takes care of every detail, from pricing and paperwork to delivery, with transparency and ease. Because of their strong dealer relationships, they’re often able to secure better prices than you’d get on your own, all without the typical back-and-forth.

Long Island Auto Concierge gives clients access to every major brand without setting foot in a showroom. The process is refreshingly simple: you request the car and pricing, and they handle the rest, including delivery, trade-ins, insurance coordination, and lease returns. And no, you don’t pay extra for this level of service.

“We’re paid by the dealerships, not the customer,” Larry explains. “People are always surprised to hear that.” Their long-standing relationships within the dealer network make the process smoother and more efficient, and clients get the

benefit of guidance without the pressure.

The team behind Long Island Auto Concierge brings over 100 years of combined automotive experience, and they all live right here on Long Island. From first cars to luxury leases to complicated trade-ins, they’ve helped clients navigate it all.

Over the years, the team has handled all kinds of situations, including one infamous car delivery that turned into an ant infestation. “The dealer wanted just to clean it out,” Larry recalls, “but we pushed for a full exchange. It didn’t sit well with us, and the exchange wouldn’t have happened without us stepping in.”

“More than anything, we love helping our community,” Larry says. “You don’t have to be in the market right now to reach out. If you have a question or need advice, we’re here. That’s how relationships start, and that’s what lasts.”

DISCOVER FIRE ISLAND BOATEL: A Car-Free Getaway on Fire Island

Tucked along the water’s edge in Kismet, the Fire Island Boatel is a quiet gem with postcard-perfect views framed by the lighthouse. With stunning sunsets and an easygoing vibe, it turns a simple getaway into a lasting memory. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to again and again.

Now in its fifth season, the Boatel was thoughtfully reimagined and brought to life by the Diesu and Major families, Long Island natives with deep roots in the Kismet community. The result is a pristine coastal retreat where every detail feels intentional, with interiors that blend relaxed charm with crisp, elevated style. The Fire Island Boatel features ten waterfront suites, a one-bedroom cottage, and the Bay Breeze House, an adjacent eight-bedroom, four-bathroom home built for larger gatherings.

The Boatel offers a mix of thoughtful amenities that truly enhance your stay. Guests enjoy access to a private

bayfront beach, set up with lounge chairs just steps from their suite. Prefer the ocean? Beach chairs and umbrellas are available to take with you for a day by the sea. When you return, unwind in the landscaped backyard with lounge areas and barbecues. Additional perks include outdoor showers, complimentary laundry facilities, and a steady supply of ice.

When you’re ready to explore, start the day with a morning walk along the ocean or relax beachside with a book. Rent bikes to ride like a local or head to the nearby tennis courts for some casual fun. You’re just a short walk from the Fire Island Lighthouse, a scenic climb with views that stretch for miles. Grab a bite, enjoy a cocktail, or catch live music at one of Kismet’s laid-back restaurants. Essentials are close at hand, too, with a local market and wine shop just around the corner. Whether you're staying put or venturing out, the pace is easy and the charm is constant.

WHERE TO STAY AT THE BOATEL

Each accomodation has its own charm, designed to suit different kinds of getaways. The waterfront suites sit along the bay and comfortably sleep up to four guests, with either a king or queen bed plus a queen pullout couch. Each includes a fully equipped kitchenette and a private deck overlooking the water.

The one-bedroom cottage offers more space, with a separate living room that makes it feel like your own beach bungalow.

The Bay Breeze House, built shortly after the Boatel’s opening, is perfect for reunions, celebrations, or getaways with family or a larger group. With room for up to sixteen guests, the home includes multiple indoor and outdoor gathering spaces and sweeping views of the bay, the Fire Island Lighthouse, and the iconic Robert Moses Bridge. Professionally designed with a refined yet relaxed aesthetic, the house has a luxurious beachside feel. While fully equipped with its own private amenities, guests also enjoy full access to everything offered throughout the Boatel property.

Outdoor Living Is In

In 2025, outdoor spaces aren’t just an upgrade, they’re an essential part of how we enjoy our homes. And if you’re considering putting your home on the market, they’re a major selling point.

According to the National Association of Realtors, features like patios, decks, and landscaping can significantly increase a home’s appeal and overall value. Buyers are drawn to outdoor kitchens, fire features, and well-designed hardscaping that feels like an extension of the home. In recent years, homeowners have treated their outdoor spaces with the same care and design attention as their interiors.

Zillow’s research, along with findings from the American Society of Landscape Architects and other design industry

reports, shows that homes with outdoor enhancements like showers, bluestone patios, or even an outdoor TV tend to attract more attention and stand out in the market.

If you’re not planning to sell just yet, now is the perfect time to enjoy your outdoor space and photograph it while everything is in full bloom. In colder months, those summer photos can help potential buyers picture the lifestyle and natural beauty your home offers yearround.

Even small, intentional touches like a well-appointed seating area, layered lighting, and planters can help buyers envision life there and make your listing photos stand out.
