Iwas meant to sit down and write this hello hours ago, but this morning I allowed myself to be wonderfully distracted by the cloudless blue sky and the growing energy levels of our new puppy Beryl, and headed out to the woods for a yomp. Walking with a puppy means no straight lines, being tripped up a lot and stopping every two feet to let her smell something (probably something disgusting). It also means being in the moment, as dogs, especially puppies, are great at being present. They are in to the thing they are doing now, not focussing on the past or future, and this is very much a lesson I am wanting to learn, as my brain struggles to quieten itself. It seems a twelve week old puppy shall be my guru in this art, as she delights in a stick, toys with a lump of moss or stares up through the branches to following the call of a bird.

Something that helps them process the insanity of modern life”. Mine is walking in nature, yours may be cycling, drawing, singing, seeing friends, cooking, going to the gym. Maybe you are an expert at meditation, maybe you go to church, maybe you find yourself when you are knocking ten bells out of a punch bag. But if you find it hard to be in the moment, find a practice, and if you are struggling to find one that sticks, you can always borrow Beryl, the four-legged guru.

Black Swan Arts Is Thinking Big in Its 40th

Black Swan Arts is celebrating its 40th anniversary throughout 2026, and this month THINK XL is set to become the organisation’s major fundraising exhibition of the year.
The current Programming Group for The Long Gallery has planned an ambitious exhibition showcasing 40 artists who have a connection with Black Swan Arts, spanning the years 1986 to 2026.
The exhibition will feature 40 original artworks for sale, including automata, ceramics, drawings (charcoal, ink and pencil), glasswork, paintings, photographs, sculpture, stone carving, textiles and wood carving. All of the works have been generously donated to support Black Swan Arts. Many of the artists continue their creative practice locally, while others now live elsewhere in the UK. Some are internationally renowned, while others are establishing themselves locally in their chosen field.

Packed with quick wit, lively characters and plenty of wartime charm, Jack Absolute Flies Again promises an evening of high-flying comedy. Among the contributing artists are Rachel Grigor and Anna Wright, both members of the group led by architect David Short, who steered the original Black Swan Arts project from the start. Forest School sessions will offer children the chance to explore nature through woodland play and hands-on experiences. These sessions are particularly suited to children aged 4–10, though all ages are welcome, and booking is required. There will also be lawn games set up across the farm, along with storytelling and face painting to keep younger visitors entertained.
The farm’s open studios will be welcoming guests, giving visitors the chance to meet local makers, see their work and take part in pop-up workshops. A selection of stalls will also be on site, selling handmade goods, plants and other locally produced items. A range of seasonal food and drink will be available, including a hearty seasonal stew, homemade cakes, and tea and coffee. A bar will also be serving locally produced drinks, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Families will be able to meet the farm animals, while children can enjoy the sandpit and plenty of space to run, play and explore. Visitors are encouraged to dress for the outdoors and make the most of the farm setting.
Parking at the farm is limited and must be booked in advance. Visitors are encouraged to walk or cycle where possible, with footpaths available from Frome along the East Mendip Way. A drop-off option is available at the farm, with additional parking at Vallis Vale on a first-come, first-served basis.
Visit the beautiful American Museum & Gardens over the Easter school holidays for The Great Garden Hunt, a family trail set among the tulips and springtime blossom. Search the gardens for ten brightly decorated bird tables, each home to a numbered Easter egg. Find them all, complete your trail sheet and collect a prize.
On Easter Sunday, there will be a little extra eggcitement with a special garden Easter egg hunt. When the gardens open at 10am, a collection of Easter eggs will be hidden across the grounds for visitors to discover throughout the morning. Once all the eggs have been found, the hunt will come to a close. Fun for children and grown-ups alike!

Cheddar Gorge & Caves
Visitors to Cheddar Gorge & Caves will be able to enjoy a special illuminated experience this spring as Aardman Animations celebrates its 50th anniversary. From 28th March to 31st May, Gough’s Cave will be transformed into The Illuminated Cave with Wallace & Gromit and Friends. The underground trail will feature glowing lantern displays inspired by some of Aardman’s bestknown characters and scenes from the past five decades. Families visiting during the Easter period (28 March – 19 April) can follow the illuminated trail through the cave, discover facts about the displays and crack a code to receive an Easter treat. The trail will also run during May Half Term (23rd – 31st May). Visitors who complete the trail and solve the code will receive a themed reward sticker as a souvenir of their visit.
As well as the illuminated cave trail, there will be Aardman-themed arts and crafts activities for children. The event is designed for families, animation fans and anyone looking for a different day out.
The Infinite Tearoom

The Infinite Tearoom welcomes you into its playful dreamworld at their Spring Community Art Show, an exhibition celebrating local artists, including Tallulah Pomeroy, Guy Watts, Phoenix Rising, Rufus Potts Dawson, Rose Trelawny and more. The exhibition opens Easter Monday and runs until 12th April at the stunning Silk Mill, where it is open daily from 11am–5pm.

Frome’s River House Café turns up the volume as it becomes Loud Mouth Café
One of Frome’s favourite cafés is getting a new name, but locals can rest easy because the coffee, food and familiar faces aren’t going anywhere.
After serving the town since 2014, The River House is officially joining forces with its sister company Loud Mouth Coffee, bringing the two businesses together under one bold banner: Loud Mouth.
The River House first opened its doors over a decade ago and quickly became a much-loved spot for coffee, brunch and community gatherings. Since moving to the Black Swan Arts Centre, the café has firmly embedded itself within Frome’s creative heart, serving visitors and locals inside the town’s bustling arts charity venue.
Meanwhile, Loud Mouth Coffee began life in 2018 as a small roasting project born out of the café itself. What started as an in-house experiment has steadily grown into a thriving roastery based at Frome Commerce Park, where coffee is roasted on site and served to neighbouring businesses and visitors passing through the estate.
Now the two are officially joining forces. The move brings the café and roastery together under the Loud Mouth name as the business prepares for an exciting summer ahead, with plans to take its Frome-roasted coffee on the road to festivals and events across the region.
For customers at the Black Swan, very little will change. The café space, which underwent a major refurbishment last year, will continue serving the same great food and coffee in its newly refreshed surroundings. The only difference is the name above the door.
“The River House has always been the home of Loud Mouth Coffee, so bringing the two together under one name feels like the next logical step,” said
“After 11 years of running multiple companies and spaces in the town, I’m looking forward to the next stage of streamlining everything and focusing all my energy on this one project. Bringing the two brand identities together has great potential, and I’m excited to see where we take it, along with the help of the brilliant team we currently have.”
By uniting the café and roastery, Loud Mouth begins the next chapter in a journey that started with a small café and has grown into a local coffee brand with big plans. This includes the launch of the Loud Mouth Coffee Academy later this spring, where coffee enthusiasts will be able to sign up for courses covering roasting basics, barista skills and latte art.
“We’ll also be taking Loud Mouth on the road to festivals and events, so if anyone needs a coffee vendor for parties and events, do get in touch,” Ellen added.
From the arts centre to the roastery and on to festival fields this summer, Loud Mouth will continue doing what it has always done best: serving great coffee and making a bit of noise about it.

Mojo Moves’ seasonal silent discos, held in the beautiful surroundings of Vallis Farm, offer the opportunity to dance for three hours as the sun goes down, surrounded by nature. Attendees are provided with headphones that offer three channels of music, from disco classics to drum & bass. This allows everyone to find their perfect tune and groove to their heart’s content. Frome Town Council has launched My Frome, a digital participation platform designed to open up local decision-making and give people a clear, practical way to influence what happens in Frome. Residents are invited to visit My Frome to see what’s being planned, explore the options, share ideas and preferences and help guide decision making.

Frome Skatepark Project
The campaign to bring a new skatepark to Frome began in 2020, thanks to the efforts of two best friends, Noah and Ed, who spent their days honing their skills on the ramps at the Mary Baily playing field. They could see that Frome’s existing skatepark was not well-designed and was, in fact, falling apart - a stark contrast to the high-quality facilities they had experienced in other towns.
When Noah moved away post-pandemic, Ed knew he needed help to drive the project forward. This is when the Frome Skatepark Project community group was formed in early 2022, with Ed at the helm and a dedicated team of parents, some of whom were skaters themselves, rallying behind him.
With a constitution, a bank account, and regular meetings, the group was now equipped to push forward the debate started by Noah and Ed: Frome needs a new, fit-for-purpose skatepark. But why settle for just that? The group dared to dream big, aspiring to bring an “absolutely epic new skatepark” to the town, designed by the best skatepark experts in the country. If other South West towns could achieve this, why not Frome?
The results of the Mary Baily Playing Field Consultation, which showed the young people of Frome overwhelmingly wanted a new skatepark, provided the momentum the group needed. On August 27th last summer, their dreams were realised when, in a council chamber packed with young skaters, their parents, and supporters, Frome Town Council voted to support the building of a new skatepark on the Mary Baily site. Cue much whooping and a celebratory trip to the pub!
The journey had not been an easy one, with the group navigating many trials and tribulations over the past five years. Through it all, they persevered, attending council meetings, fundraising at the Frome Independent Market, appearing on Frome FM, hosting epic Skate Jams, and receiving support from FROGS (who held their funds before they had a bank account). Now, 2026 is the big fundraising year, with many exciting events planned. The renowned Maverick has been chosen to design and build the new skatepark, and their exciting design is currently being consulted on by the future users.
“I’m really excited that we now have the support of Frome Town Council and in 2027 will have a skatepark designed by Maverick.”
The group is also grateful for the support of Frome Rotary, who have come on board to help raise the £400,000 needed, meaning all donations to the Frome Skatepark Project are now eligible for Gift Aid.
The group is eager to hear from the community about fundraising ideas, whether that’s table-top sales, sponsored activities, donations of raffle prizes, or cake sales. Those interested in getting involved can visit the Frome Skatepark Project website and reach out via the “Get Involved” section.
As Ed, one of the original instigators, eloquently states: “The main reason for starting the campaign was that I felt there was a real lack of things for young people to do. The skatepark was the main place for us to go, but it was pretty uncared for and falling
apart, and yet it was so important. As a team, Frome Skatepark Project have worked really hard to get to this point. I’m really excited that we now have the support of Frome Town Council and in 2027 will have a skatepark designed by Maverick. It’s important though to raise as much money as possible towards this, as it will benefit the town for years to come.”
