Dear readers, One year ago, the three of us attended graduation as worn-out juniors to distribute copies of the paper and watch our friends walk across the stage. Surrounded by smiling faces, proud families and bittersweet celebrations, we were overwhelmed by the prospect of our own senior year. Where would the coming months lead us? How would we change over the course of a year?

A lot has happened since then — in the world of Roar, in the world of South and in the world in general. Still, we’ve made it this far: our smiles are wide, our families are proud and our celebration is well-deserved.

We want to thank you for reading The Roar this past volume and reflect on our past four years. First, thank you for continuing to engage with us over the course of this volume — it truly makes our day when people approach us in the hallways or in our classes to talk about a piece we published or to ask when our next issue is coming out. Most of you know that The Roar is far from perfect, but it’s for you guys (and ourselves, too) that we continue to strive for quality content. Thank you for accepting our mistakes, appreciating our efforts and driving us to succeed.

Like we said earlier, it has been a whirlwind of a year in many respects. We’ve tried through every issue to capture what has made these past 12 months unique, and doing so has made us all the more grateful that we’ve had the incomparable experience of working on a high school newspaper. Our goal is, and has always been, to share South’s diverse voices by featuring subjects and issues students may not otherwise encounter. It is our sincere hope that future volumes maintain this purpose. We truly believe that what we do is, and will continue to be, extremely relevant to the South community.

We’d also like to express our gratitude for the amazing staff that has helped us get to this final thank you letter. Volume 33, you’ve been a special one — that’s for sure. Thank you for your commitment to building our community, for always responding to our frantic 1 a.m. messages, for showing up to our dinners no matter how last-minute they were planned, for eating our bagels, for laughing at our lame jokes and for always, always pushing us to bring our paper to the next level. It’s a testament to everything we’ve accomplished this volume that we’ve tried to stuff so many pictures into this collage; we didn’t want to leave any memory out.

Working on Roar has given our high school careers a purpose that we could not have found in any other place. This past volume has been full of ups and downs, but we couldn’t seem to stay away from this paper.

With your help: - We appreciated our wonderful staff with 3 coffees, 1 breakfast and 1 lunch. And this year we also provided dinner for the faculty before the evening parent-teacher conferences - We raised funds to make the library more functional and comfortable - We hosted 5 information sessions for incoming parents and 10 parent coffees - We put your PTSO dollars to work directly in the classroom through grants to departments and teachers - We organized an awesomely fun and safe SouthFest - We surprised the students with treats several times during the year to give them a boost
