USB / Lightning Connectors

Typically devices have a female connector (port) and cables have a male connector. A cable can have different connectors on each end. Make sure the devices/chargers you want to connect match the connectors on the ends of the cable you choose.

USB-A is the original USB connection.

There are 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 versions of the connector. 3.0 allows for faster data transfer and will often have blue inside to indicate it is 3.0. All versions are compatible. If mixing USB version cables and devices, data will always transfer at the speed of the lowest version cable/device.

USB-C is a faster USB connection and the male and female connectors are different from USB-A. Most current Andriod devices and iPhone 15, 16 and beyond have USB-C ports for charging and data transfer.

Micro-USB (also known as USB Micro-B is used on many non-phone devices. Most Andriod phones manufactured prior to 2016 have Micro-USB ports.

Lightning connectors are speciﬁc to Apple products. iPhones 6-14 use Lightning connectors, as well as many other Apple products. Apple is phasing out Lightning connectors and switching to USB-C. Most newer Apple devices use USB-C. Externally, a Lightning port looks very similar to a USB-C, but it is smaller and is not at all compatible.

There are other types of specialized USB connections but Sanis does not sell products with those connections..
