Katy Messersmith first arrived on the fashion scene in 2002 by accident. While volunteering at a women’s prenatal clinic in Africa, her life took a turn. Her luggage was lost. She was soon collaborating with the local seamstresses designing clothes reflecting the vibrant local culture. This lit a creative and entrepreneurial spark in Katy, foreshadowing the bold Katydid creations to come.

Katy is determined to succeed despite being self-taught in the business and fashion worlds. Today, the company is a multi-million dollar business based in the heart of the Dallas Design District. Katydid was recently named one of INC 500’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America and as a Top 100 Women Owned Business in North Texas by Dallas Business Journal. Katydid is sold in more than 8,000 active boutiques and retailers across the nation.
A firm believer in the power of giving back, Katy constantly looks to make a difference in the community and empower emerging women. North Texas Food Bank, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army and Suicide Crisis Center are a few of the many charities Katydid supports.
Katy is a true Texan. She graduated from Texas A&M University and currently resides in Dallas with her husband and son.
