Chantalwasraisedbyher grandmotherduetothepassing ofhermomattheyoungageof three.Chantal'sgrandmother relocatedthemtoJackson, MississippiafterHurricane Katrinain2005.Togetherher andhergrandmotherwould formanunbreakablebond lastinguntilherunexpected passinginAugustof2021. Sincethepassingofher grandmother,Chantalhasused thistragedytohelppushand motivatehermoretoward makingsomethingmoreof herselfandmostImportantly makingherchildrenand grandmotherproudofher.
OnMarch17,2018ChantalTaylor startedherbusinessTrueEssence Organics.TrueEssenceOrganicstakes rawingredientsfromnatureandmolds themintoskincareproductsusedfor differentskintypes.Chantal’sskincare journeybeganwhenshewas diagnosedwitharareformofcancer calledDesmoidFibromatosisin2006.
Someofyoumaybewonderingwhat isDesmoidFibromatosis.Desmoid Fibromatumorsarecancerousgrowths thatoccurintheconnectivetissue. Desmoidtumorsmostoftenoccurin theabdomen,arms,andlegs.Another termfordesmoidtumorsisaggressive fibromatosis.Somedesmoidtumorsare slowgrowinganddonotrequire immediatetreatment.However, Othersgrowquicklyandaretreated withsurgery,radiationtherapy, chemotherapy,orothermedications.

Doctorsknowthesetumorsformwhen aconnectivetissuecelldevelops changesinitsDNA.Acell'sDNA containsinstructionsthattellacell whattodo.Thechangestellthe connectivetissuecelltomultiply rapidly,creatingamassofcellsthatcan invadeanddestroyhealthybodytissue. Sincebeingdiagnosedin2008shehas enduredseveralroundsof chemotherapy,severalroundsof radiation,multiplesurgicalprocedures, andhasgainedmorehealthissues.
Despitebattlingcancer,Chantalhas becomeremarkablysuccessfulwithher skincarebusiness.Shehasbeen featuredonthecoverofHuami MagazineJan/Feb2022edition,shehas beenfeaturedinShoutoutAtlanta,she hasbeenawardedTheEntrepreneurial SheroAwardfor2023,shehas accomplishedhavingherproductsin storesnearandfar,sheisnowon Walmart.com,andhasbecomeastaple inhercommunity.
InDecemberof2022,Chantal decidedtostartTheLegacy MagazineMS.Theirmissionat TheLegacyMagazineMSisto helpchangethewaypeople spendmoneyinour communities.Wewantpeople tospendmoreoftheirmoney onsmallbusinesses.Webelieve themostimportantwaytodo thatisbygivingbusiness ownersaplatformthatwillput themattheforefrontwhich willsparkconversationswithin thecommunity.

Iwaslike“Quick”from“Harlem Nights”!Iranerrandsformy grandmaandgrandpawhilethey operatedtheclub.Thetaskranged fromsecuritytoDJtojanitororeven bartenderifneeded!Itwasatthis placeIlearnedthatIhadadeepdrivendesiretobeinentertainment insomeshapeorfashion.
Mychildhoodwastypicaltoonewho wasn’tunderstoodordeemedweird becausemyparentsweren’tinterested inmyinterestswhichwasalittle disappointingatfirstbutintimeI developedmyuniquenessand personalityintoonethatcan’tbe easilyignored.Iwas“classclown” called“disruptive,toldIhadattention andhyperactivity”wheninrealityI simplyneededawaytoexpress myselfandshowhowmymind workedunfortunatelyparentingat thetimeconsistedof“gettingcursed outandorgettingaasswhooping” whenthebehaviordidn’twarrantthat kindofpunishment. Althoughitwasn’ttheworst childhooditstillprimedmetobe hard-working,ambitious,driven,and overalldeterminedtomake somethinggreatoutofmyselfand findthosewhoarepassionateand like-mindedasmyselfandIfound thosegreatpeopleintheoh-sowonderfulartformofstandup comedy!
