AROUND TABLEHARKNESSTHE
At Lawrenceville, Harkness doesn’t happen just around the table. Our students roll up their sleeves, ask questions, collaborate, and solve problems. The intellectual inquiry cultivated in our Harkness classrooms manifests in molecular biology research in partnership with a lab at Stanford University, rocketry projects in the Gruss Center for Art and Design, and construction of a life-size canoe during an interdisciplinary study of the Lewis and Clark

WHEN ABECOMESHOUSEYOURHOME
For generations of Lawrentians, the first question they ask one another is “What House were you in?” Whether it’s painting your face before House Olympics, doubling over with laughter during a Saturday night Feed, or knocking on the door of your Head of House and talking through a problem, at Lawrenceville, your House truly becomes a home. Our community of 18 residential Houses is a place where students form lifelong friendships, develop the values of cooperation, tolerance and leadership, and make memories that last a lifetime.
Our teachers are committed to helping you discover and develop your intellectual passions, to think critically and creatively about the world around you, and to come up with solutions to the challenges and opportunities before you. You’ll find them everywhere — inspiring debate around our Harkness tables, driving creativity in our maker spaces and studios, creating vital community connections in our Houses, and coaching on our athletic fields. More than 90 percent of our teachers hold advanced degrees, and many make direct contributions to their disciplines as published scholars, scientific researchers, and leading innovators in education.

The arts at Lawrenceville seek to inspire and connect. Our lively and comprehensive performing arts department offers musical and dramatic theater, vocal and instrumental music, and dance. Our visual arts program challenges students to develop visual awareness and acuity through classes encompassing historical analysis and creation. We believe the arts are an essential element in broadening students’ approach to problem solving, to aesthetic enjoyment, to other people, and to life itself.
BELONGINGANDINCLUSION,DIVERSITY,
In the classroom, in co-curricular activities, and through our residential life program, students have the opportunity to explore and appreciate the perspectives and identities of others, and develop their own. Lawrenceville is committed to inspiring students to live “lives of learning, integrity, and high purpose,” which we believe is enhanced by being in an environment that celebrates racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, and socio-economic diversity and where everyone experiences a sense of belonging. Lawrenceville continues to strive to provide an academic curriculum and community that reflect a global perspective.

At Lawrenceville, you will engage in learning experiences that are designed to deepen your thinking and understanding while building your confidence, creativity, and initiative. We believe in “learning by doing,” whether you are in the science lab, at the farm, on the ropes course, participating in international travel programs, or designing your own independent study. These are just a few of the many opportunities you will have to apply learning to real-life experiences.

CENTERGRUSS FOR ART DESIGNAND SUSTAINABILITY
Drawing on the legacy of alumnus and renowned ecologist Aldo Leopold (Class of 1905), sustainable living is woven into the fabric of Lawrenceville’s identity. From student-driven farming and ecological restoration internships to campus water quality monitoring and carbon reduction planning, the school motto “Virtue Ever Green” is a way of life.
If you can imagine it, you can create it at the Gruss Center for Art and Design (GCAD). Lawrenceville’s makerspace includes a fabrication lab, digital design rooms, and a large flexible project room for ideation and rapid prototyping.

Featuring more than 70 teams across 21 interscholastic sports, as well as intramurals and recreational options, Lawrenceville’s athletic program is a true extension of the House and Harkness learning experience. We are equal parts athleticism, intelligence, and passion, and we demonstrate humility and a commitment to teamwork. Every student has access to a robust support system — from our athletic trainers who advance an active lifestyle, to our nurse practitioners who encourage proper nutrition, to our psychologists who provide a range of counseling services. Our 24-hour Al Rashid Health and Wellness Center provides both in-patient and out-patient services, including general health counseling, medical evaluations, first aid and treatment of illness or injury, post-operative care, drug and alcohol education, and more. Religious Life is visible and vibrant, designed so students can deepen their own faith and develop understanding and respect for the beliefs, traditions, and practices of others. In an effort to further cultivate steadiness in mind and spirit, Lawrenceville also offers an array of restorative activities, including meditation, yoga, and opportunities for spiritual reflection.
