THE LATEST SCOOP ON... Welcome to the JANUARY/FEBRUARY issue of THE LATEST SCOOP® In this issue you’ll find illustrations by automotive artist, Carlos Vera of Bennett, CO. Carlos has been collecting models and drawing cars since the 4th grade when he developed a case of “car craziness.” Carlos now plays with real cars, especially “Mercs and Fords from the ‘50’s and ‘60’s,” although he claims to like all kinds of cars. Carlos moved to a farm and built a barn to house his current collection including Mercurys, Comets, Cyclones, Capris and a Meteor. Carlos retired as a school art teacher and now enjoys working mostly in watercolors and acrylics as a hobby. He welcomes commissions are 720-281-0940. Special thanks to Carlos for sharing his art with us! We are still in business despite the rumors and are continuing to work towards providing you with an e-magazine version of THE LATEST SCOOP® as the costs of design, production, printing, mailing and distributing THE LATEST SCOOP® continue to rise. Some readers will be unhappy and others can’t believe it took this long to make the jump to an online version. Advertisers are thrilled since this will maximize their exposure to a larger group of enthusiasts. Please watch for more details in THE LATEST SCOOP® as we continue to work to transition to a digital e-magazine version. Please contact us at 970-686-6155 or info@scoopautoevents.com if you have any questions. A subscription to THE LATEST SCOOP® makes a great gift for only $27 a year (plus 78¢ tax for Colorado residents) for nine event–packed issues. We’ll even mail them a card telling them the subscription is courtesy of you! Please remember that the post office does not hold or forward THE LATEST SCOOP® so when you place a “hold” on your mail, some of it―including THE LATEST SCOOP®―is returned to the senders marked “Temporarily Away” and are charged 61¢ for this information. Please notify us of all address changes. In a change dubbed the “Death of Chrome,” chrome plating is being phased out of new vehicles in Europe starting in 2024 and in the United States starting in 2039 due to health and environmental concerns. A known carcinogen, Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium-6), can cause chronic lung cancer and potentially harm workers according to OSHA. Auto manufacturers plan to introduce new designs replacing chrome with alternatives, like black finishes. Business Insider More details surrounding the sale of Bandimere Speedway have recently been in the news. The proposed location of the new track is located near Hudson, CO northeast of Denver. Google estimates mileage to Hudson as 34 miles and 48 minutes depending on what time you are traveling. Fans are predicting that commercial land located near I-76 & County Road 49 is the likely site and will provide Bandimere with plenty of space for parking and other operations. The property is located just north of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Logistics Center and the new world class Rodeo Dunes Golf Course. You can follow developments at bandimere.com and Facebook We were so sorry to hear of the recent passing of featured artist, Perry Key of Albuquerque, NM at the age of 82. Perry’s artwork has appeared here many times over the years. Perry was a founding member of the Albuquerque Automotive Artists Association and was a very kind, popular and talented artist. He was also a board member of the New Mexico Council of Car Clubs and was an enthusiastic vendor and participant at Albuquerque area car shows and events for many years. He was often the first to set up and the last to leave an event. Perry worked as a graphic designer for the City of Albuquerque for 33 years designing artwork and projects visible throughout the city including the artwork for police vehicles. Artwork appearing in THE LATEST SCOOP® is courtesy of the featured artist and protected under copyright laws. These images may not be reproduced in any form―regardless of reproduction quality or method of distribution― without written consent of the contributing artist. In other words, if you like an artist’s work, please contact them to obtain permission before using their work and to arrange for any payment. EVENT LISTINGS are courtesy of THE LATEST SCOOP® Advertisers and Subscribers―Special thanks to all for using the Please List Our Event Form when submitting event information. Using this form helps ensure the accuracy of your listing. Feel free to photocopy the form when submitting or changing event information. Please include a current contact number for every event listing—we cannot verify information if the number is disconnected. We do our best to ensure accuracy of events. However, there will always be some obstacles such as event organizers who: 1) provide incorrect dates, 2) forget to notify us of date changes, or 3) forget to inform us of event cancellations. We appreciate your support in passing accurate information on to other enthusiasts! CLUB LISTINGS are complimentary in THE LATEST SCOOP® and rely on information provided by each Club. Club’s should provide the name and contact information for individual(s) authorized to make changes to their listing.
