I

t is indeed a wonderful journey to be a part of the Lasallian Rheims. I have been able to do what I like to do and share my ideas and stories with the ASJ Community. If you were to look into my works, there is no single determining theme that could be tagged along it because I explore new ideas out and pair it up with my skills to craft videos. However, you will also notice that all those videos contain one thing in common – ME. The videos that I have made reflected me. Go big or Go Home as one of the famous saying goes.

It has been an honor and a pleasure to be here in the Lasallian Rheims. We have been through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I have learned a lot in this organization or better should I say in this Family. Rheims has been a great part of my life. I do hope that the next persons in line would also utilize the opportunities in Rheims to the fullest because believe me, they are worth taking.

Well, it is now time to move on to the next chapter of my life – college. Rheims, Thank you for everything. This is Al Andre Mojica, your Senior Director of Photography, officially signing off!

oller Coaster Ride – This is a great description of how my journey here in the Lasallian Rheims. From being a Creatives Division artist to becoming the Senior Multimedia Head, it surely is a major transition. I mean, Multimedia works vary and requires a lot of technical skills. I had to spent the summer before 12th Grade to learn its roots and be adept with how the Division works. I know from there on that the year was challenging.

I was right. Standing in the frontlines was pressuring and taxing. We stood as the drivers who will drive the team to our goals. Decision making, analysis, time management – these are just some of the difficult things that we needed to do. Add the fact that I am a graduating student – it was really a challenge.

But hey, here I am with our team finishing off the year with lots of successes. We have been able to do projects and talk shows that seemed impossible. I was able to stand as the Technical Director for the Rheims’ projects. I have grown as an artist and as a man. Not only did I hone my technical skills but also my values, virtues, and mindset.

It has been an honor Rheims Family to serve with you.

I will forever cherish the moments that we have shared. I do look forward to what the future holds for our Family. This has been a journey worth remembering. I am John Czar Salaguinto, your Senior Multimedia Head, officially taking his hat off.

es… that is the name of the magazine… Blank.

Blank can mean many things. You can associate the word with many connotations such as mystery, nothing, nil, zero, space, clear, or even void.

In this special issue, we want our writers to write anything that they want to show off to the world and what we envision for the organization we call home and family. A multitude of topics can be written under the three-dimensional space. The possibilities are limitless. These works were product of inspirations, hard work, passion and driven by experience.

This is the last issue that I am given the opportunity to layout. I can ensure that this issue will serve as the pinnacle of my 2-year stay in the organization. Although May 31 marked the end of my term as the Managing Editor of the organization, I will forever call myself a Rheims staffer as I face the endeavors life offers at me. For those following my anime related write-ups since January, here is the epilogue.

This magazine combines works, articles, outputs, and showcases coming from a variety of Rheims Divisions. Majority of the works are done by the outgoing batch, Grade 12 Batch 2022. Separation is inevitable and nothing lasts forever. However, we can always reminisce on the memories that we have cherished and will remain pure in our hearts.

I would like to say temporary goodbyes as each of us will embark on a new chapter of our lives. For the incoming heads, it will be an emotional and fulfilling roller coaster ride.

“A

city on a hill cannot be hidden. A lamp should not be put under the bed. And so, Andrew, let your light shine.“

These words were my driving force in writing editorial articles and improving my writing skills. It was actually Sir Kent who said these words to me after I showed my fellow heads my first main editorial article. These were originally words from the Bible, when Jesus gave the sermon on the mount, relating Christians to the city on a hill, serving as beacons to spread the light of spirituality. However, I relate to the message so much because when Sir Kent sent me those exact words, I felt a sense of fulfillment, as it is a journalist’s mission to shed light on an obscured mystery, and seeing that you fulfilled your mission would definitely motivate you to keep going.

It’s definitely hard not to give your all after these words were said to you, as I found this to be the source of my strength and keep letting my opinions and analysis on topics be available for people to see. It has been a whole year growing and learning with you, and I would just like to thank my fellow heads and to all Rheims members and staffers for being part of this journey. The next year will bring about many challenges and notable events that would give your batch its own distinct identity. It’ll be your choices and plans that would impact this very identity, and I have full trust on the upcoming heads in leading The Lasallian Rheims. And so, Rheims fam, as your associate editor-in-chief for the school year 2021–2022, I pass the words that motivated me throughout this journey to you—Let your light shine, as it’s meant to be seen, not hidden. he sun shines so bright. The busy streets of the Philippines roar with rushing vehicle sounds. The Lasallian Rheims is here, publishing a new magazine entitled BLANK… really?

Shocking it may sound but this magazine is really entitled as BLANK. The seniors have been in a dilemma ever since as we look for a name to this magazine. We have gone through different languages, different inspirations, and different magazines that had the same concept as this one. Weeks have gone by and we got down to the word, BLANK. The Lasallian Rheims batch 2021 – 2022 presents you with BLANK – our batch’s final magazine that showcases our works and visions for the organization. We come from different Divisions so expect a variety of works to be featured in this magazine. I do not like any spoilers but just see them for yourselves and get to know more about the alumni of Rheims. May you like our final works that we have worked on for almost a month.

On a personal note, this is already a goodbye. Although I retired as the Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of the Board last May 31, I would just like to express my gratitude and appreciation to our readers and followers for your support, love, and trust to us. Batch 2021 – 2022 gave everything that they have for our passion and calling – to serve the community.

It has been a great journey and as they say, separation is inevitable. This is Lance Crisostomo, your EIC and SEB Chair for S.Y. 2021 – 2022, officially taking his hat off.

In my 13 years in ASJ, I have been an athlete from being a swimmer for the whole duration of grade school and being an archer for the entirety of my junior high.

It’s a little unfortunate that I couldn’t continue it in my senior high school because of the global pandemic.

But after retiring as an athlete I pondered on what to do next and during the beginning of my Grade 12. A certain someone asked me if I’m up for a challenge, at first I refused thinking that I would just be dragged into a contest that I am not suited for, but this person said that I was invited to be part of the Rheims team and to join in as a writer and that someone vouched for me and with that comment I thought that it would be a great opportunity to be part of something special and unique and from writing my first essay to making this, my last writing, I have experienced so many things even though we are limited by this online platform. Rheims has fulfilled my high school life.

As I remember my first two writings was an English and a Tagalog essay and one was about Cornetto and I remember it being my Tagalog topic and when the evaluations came I admitted that I used Google translate for my Tagalog because I was so bad at it. But through my ups and downs, Rheims was with me all the way and for that I am deeply grateful especially for the experience on the talk shows that I hope I can witness and help with in the future..

Naalala ko pa nung summer ng Grade 11, palagi kong nakikita sa Facebook and Twitter Feeds ko yung mga pinopost ng Rheims na recruitment posters.

Tapos niyayaya din ako ng iba kong kakilala na part ng Rheims before and at present na sumali na rin daw ako, so I did.

The first few months of it were indeed very challenging because not only did it test my ability of balancing my time properly, it also questioned my abilities as an amateur editor. From simply editing holiday posters for the Multimedia Division to co-anchoring Rheims Direct for the Broadcasting Division to becoming the event director of the Valentine’s Day project real quick.

P. S. I chose photojournalism when I answered the application form.

No hard feelings, I promise. Actually, I am grateful to those people who have assigned me as the Junior Editor of the Multimedia Division. Those people guided me towards a path where they believed my skills would be honed, appreciated, and foster more. I was always the type of person who is content with playing safe and incapable of quickly adapting to change. And this experience brought me out of my comfort zone for a positive reason, to teach me three important lessons. Namely, to move forward without the thought of looking back, never settle to where you are right now, and always have room for growth and creative criticisms.

Not yet (a requiem) MARIELLE NAVARRO I am asked constantly about what I want to be when I finally grow up.

Yet, the brain they question cannot comprehend the idea of having grown further than what I already am, despite wanting to be more.

If I am already overwhelmed by the present and cursed of the knowledge that this is not my limit, then what I hope for my future is that I am not tired enough to look down at the child I once will be with both resentment and envy towards my privilege to still be allowed to make mistakes.

(I was taught that people who have grown cannot commit such atrocities for they are always correct.)

When I grow up, I hope that these thoughts of mine will not be immortalized.

Ironic, when I have always been called sensitive which I translated into being called a poet.

Perhaps my desire for people to read my words on paper is overthrown by the sheer selfishness that no one will ever look at my works and cry over something that should have been kept away from the light day.

(I was told that my emotions can only be expressed if they are in the range of niceties, but my poetry commonly relies on the organized chaos that is within me.)

One day, I will touch the firmament and as I am set ablaze, the world that I have written will burn with me until we are nothing but a candidate for a topic scholars will learn with nothing but an exasperated sigh.

I want to grow up as someone and no one; both at the same time.

For I made myself believe that to be loved, I must be needed even at the cost of who I am.

(This was made clear to me when I was much younger, when my classmates leeched off of my things and told me that I was a good friend for doing so.

My mother told me the opposite, but I did not believe her.)

When I am grown, I hope that I will still be allowed to create mistakes.

(As if they are what make me whole and alive.)

I wish to have the courage to expose my heart to those I love.

(Not the heart I was forced to behold, but the one that is imperfect and fragmented.)

And when I finally find that courage, I hope that I have enough love not to give it away.

(It is where my art stems, and I am yet to create my magnum opus.)

When I grow up, I want it to be on my own terms, and not dictated by a career or a word.

So, for now, I will remain where I am until the notion of progressing beyond myself has finally grown less absurd.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

“Jack of all trades, master of none,” as the expression goes, which commonly disparages people who can do many things and have many skills, rather than mastering a single useful skill and becoming a specialist in it. For example, it could allude to a student who has a lot of hobbies but never masters any of them. His peers could say that he should focus on one so that they could “master it”. I myself have been insulted with that phrase before, and I found myself thinking whether they were right. And, happily, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I’m better off as a “jack of all trades.”

In a pandemic, it’s natural for people to start finding new hobbies and interests, to explore themselves more, and to grasp what their future holds.

Since one has a lot of time to spare, they tend to try new things, or practice the skills they

already know to further hone them. “Jack of all trades” people would typically try to learn many things to further themselves instead of picking a specific area and mastering it. The path to self-discovery will let them learn about their strengths and weaknesses much more easily and discover where their skills lie.

However, we should also remember that “masters of one” sometimes have no access to different resources, hence their situation—and just no one is allowed to judge. People still ignore these factors and would want to focus on forcing people to be “masters of one”. As I said, I was insulted by the phrase before. However, after minutes of research, I quickly found out that the phrase has a full version, and it was a compliment, after all.

The full phrase was “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one,” which admits that while being a master of none, it would

oftentimes still be better than mastering a single area. There’s no shame in being a master of one too, as mastery in a certain field will increase your credibility and knowledge of the area.

Why is this important?

Well, judgement is a huge factor in one’s learning process. While a person is trying their best to discover their fortes, the peers around them discourage them, until the person disengages from their interests and will not have the chance to discover themselves. It would be best if people wouldn’t focus on how other people discover themselves, especially if the person isn’t affecting others. Every person is different, and each has their own unique strengths and weaknesses. They all learn through different methods and go through different paths of learning. It is imperative that people remember that, since every person is different, they have their own methods of learning their skills, mastering their knowledge, and discovering themselves.

Throughout these years, I’ve learned that being a jack-ofall trades suits me better. I could enjoy myself more, I could adjust because of my skillset, and I could be a lot more helpful to others. For

me, mastering a single skill will get me nowhere because of the kinds of people around me. Almost all the people I know are competent, and are reliable to themselves, and to others. By being a “support”, or an extra hand, I could contribute not only to a single group of people, but to multiple areas. For me, this would be a great contribution to the people around me.

By engaging in academics, journalism, and my hobbies—such as arts and crafts—I could contribute more than being a “master” in one of these areas. I learned that with my academic expertise, I could help people with their lessons better. I learned that with my crochet crafts, I could produce art that I never thought I could do before. I learned that with journalism, the light that shied away from the human gaze could once again be brought out of the shadows.

Finally, everyone has to remember that each person has their own separate story and method of doing things. Be who you are–may it be a jack-of-all trades person, or a master of one person. It is our lives. Let’s live it how we want it to be, just as long as we don’t hurt others.

Qualifying into the Creatives Division as a junior member is what I think my limit would be when I decided to submit the Google Form of the Rheims’ registration before. I said to myself that being a member of an organization for the school would help me greatly in my college applications. I didn’t expect that I would be the head of an entire Division for my second year. I was shocked, for it is accompanied with many responsibilities, endless meetings, non-stop output making and checking, running out of ideas and the spark to create and many more. But also felt grateful for when that I was given great power means that people believes in my capabilities.

Being a head entails many things and by that, almost all things should be considered in every output to be posted. In every ounce of our creative juice used in the sake of journalism, I learned new things that helped me improved my craft. At first, it was hard but as you get into the beat of how things should be done, you can easily adapt to its highs and lows. I enjoyed every little bit of being in the organization as if it was my main point of focus throughout the whole school year. I always looked up to “Per Aspera Ad Astra” helping me get over with every encounter I had ever had, making it as one of my mottos in life. Through hardships to the stars.

Fulfillment RENZ BAUTISTA

I have been interested in joining Rheims during the first months of my Grade 10, specifically when they post video works of school events. I also remembered contributing a SciTech article about Diphtheria, which had many revisions. Upon seeing the recruitment posters for the first month of online classes, I immediately applied and accomplished the Google Form link. I still remembered how formal I am when I got into the interviews and were given articles to write about relevant events that day (PLDT and Liza Soberano issue, Dolomite beach and I can’t remember the other one).

I got accepted and wrote my first feature during the month of August about the plight of medical frontliners. Features were written until the month of December, where I was introduced in the world of news and the column. I genuinely enjoyed my column writing experience as it was very different back then.

Months crossed and a lot more has happened. I was the contest chair for the Essay Writing contest for Gawad Alab. I conducted multiple surveys in school and wrote articles about their results. Wrote my monthly columns and was immersed in other articles. Until during the month of April 2021 then I was appointed to be the Managing Editor and the newspaper layout artist. There was many doubts crossed over my mind as I was not adept in the layout process as it entails a lot of creativity and artistry. The internship month was generally smooth, but I have already felt how intense the workload is and thought to myself, “this will be a long 12 months.”

A.Y. 2021-2022 opened and it marked the first month of me in office. It was difficult to adjust as the workload, pressure, and standards reached higher levels. The first few months were hard. Soon, I was appointed to more positions and were given more responsibilities. In the process, more doubts and what-ifs emerged. There were more sleepless nights (and of course, more cups of coffee) to the point my academics and social life were compromised. Several times, the thought of quitting for good lingered over. But still, I still chose to continue.

Rheims has made me see my different self. I was exposed to unfamiliar territory, immersed in areas out of my comfort zone and made new memories. Rheims enabled me to broaden my horizon and see a different outlook on the reality of journalism and work-life relationship in general. Life will always give you challenges and in these challenges, you learn. As they say, go big or go home.

I can finally say, that I am a graduate of Rheims and as for what we always say to our staffers, “once a Rheims, always a Rheims.”

YES. A word with 3 letters that changed my high school life. In front of the #neverforgetandneveragain sign, the then chairman, and the adviser of the Lasallian Rheims, made an oath to take this post as the Chairman of the Board for SY 2021 - 2022. It was not an easy decision. Beforehand, I really wanted someone (this someone is now my confidant and one of the very reasons that I keep on fighting the urge to give up) to take the post.

He has every inch of skill, attitude, and capacity to handle it. However, I also got excited to take the risk.

Well, I took a stand to face these challenges to improve myself and take a different path that deviates from academics. More than a year after, HERE I STAND, WE STAND. YES. I really had the moments where I wanted to let go of this position. YES. I frequently get exhausted from the tons of work, papers, and meetings. YES. I am not as skilled as others. YES. It is really hard to handle this. But also, YES, this was really worth the risk and the leap.

Untitled Do you know what one of the greatest and worst feelings, in my opinion, of all time is? It is felt when you have already found the person that you are willing to share everything with, lay out the rest of your life with, and die for but you knew that she is already starting to be happy with somebody else’s love and company. Finding that person and feeling your adrenaline rushing up, your heart pounding fast every time you are with her - one of the best feelings and achievements. Knowing that you do not stand a chance because there is already someone with her, gives her the best smiles and memories she could ever have - one of the most world-breaking feelings.

Untitled 2 There are times when people, who you expect to be with you through thick and thin, would suddenly leave you hanging. In the beginning, you’ll have that pact of being each other’s source of inspiration and confidence especially when doubts and adversities rise. The problematic stage came and you did everything to keep your passion burning and your team composed. You passed that stage but as you are about to reach the finish line, things had a drawback and that person suddenly left your side. The questions now are, why did that person do so? Will that person come back to his/her senses and return? Will I expect your return?

Untitled, the finale Writing has been my passion. It has been an integral part of my life ever since I got hooked on it. To be more specific, journalism has brought me to new heights and has instilled values that enabled me to become a responsible and mature person. As I exit Rheims, I am uncertain of when will I write for a newspaper once again. I believe it is time to take a pause and discover more about myself. I do not know when will I be back but I do hope that the future will allow me to once again engage in journalism. Until then, goodbye… :) Sayonara, this is the finale

The Lasallian Rheims is something special. Not only do you get to hone your skills, but you also get the chance to meet people and learn from them. I do hope that the future members and Heads would continue to foster that environment. May you continue to have those open arms to bond and service with students who willingly embraced our oath to serve. The future is uncertain but may this uncertain future be good for the Rheims and for all.

I envision the Lasallian Rheims to be one of the best news and creative media organization out there. To reach that point, we need to be passionate to what we are doing. By passionate, I mean that we love what we do and we do it not for ourselves alone but for the common good. The Lasallian Rheims is a big help for each student that wants to improve and find their passion or their self to be able to grow and to do what they love to do. Being part of this organization improve myself and be confident because I enjoy every task that is given to me and I want to provide help to other people. My wish for this organization is to stay the same because it helps the students to be updated every day. It also helps the parents, teachers, and other people to be updated on news and happenings in the school, nationally and internationally. Keep doing your passion because there’s nothing wrong with it. For the next and future Lasallian Rheims members, keep the legacy high and keep the work always done. Enjoy every moment of being part of the group because you will surely learn from each other.

Graduating with the best batchmates that I could ask for is the best thing that can happen to a graduating student like me, sure it’s sad that we have to part ways with each other but it’s also an exciting phase because we get to see the world for what it truly is and this feeling is the same as leaving something that you know will be in good hands and that’s precisely what I see of Rheims. I don’t have high expectations but I do hope that all the hard work and time that me and my batchmates and the previous batches will not be in vain, I hope that the new generation will give their generation a truly worth remembering legacy and of course I hope that I see them having fun and enjoying their time with the future Rheims family.

The future holds more opportunities as we are slowly transitioning back to the face-to-face setup. With that being said, we can move freer and do projects in person. May the future Heads and members do their best in serving the ASJ community with all their heart.

The upcoming school year/s open up opportunities for the return of face-to-face classes; thus, they also open more opportunities for the Lasallian Rheims. I do hope that the future Rheims Heads and Members would be able to utilize this opportunity to bring new things to the table. Maybe new projects? Maybe new ways on delivering service? I know that the future Heads and members are wise and creative so I’ll just brace myself to be blown away of what they will offer the community.

The Lasallian Rheims is not like any organization at all. I have seen and experienced all ends of this organization. Works may be taxing and demanding since multiple Divisions work on things together, but the fun and bond that we have had surpassed the adversities. It is my only hope that the future Heads and members would find the Lasallian Rheims as a Home and a Family, just like us.

May the Lasallian Rheims be recognized not just in the City but across the Philippines as well. However, I do not imply that we focus on getting recognition; rather, I do imply that we be recognized through the service that we give to the whole community. Let us continue to be consistent and progressive, through hardships to the stars.

I envision the Lasallian Rheims to be one of the known news and creative media organizations not just in the City but across the country. We have been climbing the ladder ever since and I believe we have already made substantial progress. Consistency is the key but may the future Heads spark new things for the organization.

Continuing what the previous batches have started is good but to move further, we must do something new. Maybe, quarterly talk shows? A Division for the TWG? There are a lot of things that the Rheims can explore upon since we have the skills, courage, and resources to do so. I am looking forward to what you can do and bring to the table.

Ito na yung exciting part. Yung isa sa mga wishes ko for the student (or should I say, school) publication, is magkaroon ng isang full office or journalism room sa school… para hindi tayo nakikigamit ng rooms and other facilities that could be utilized by others more when we are doing face-to-face classes. This way, the organization can realize its objectives more and Rheims staffers can be truly proud to belong to the Rheims family and will say words like “welcome sa bahay ng Rheims” when referring to the Rheims Office. Plus, with this room, the organization can achieve its full potential and reach greater heights. (addn. note: this is inspired from the Student Council Room of Shuchi’in Academy from Kaguya-sama: Love Is War; sanaol na lang may pa student council room hehe) I want the organization to reach new heights which even the past batches have attempted to reach but came short. Our NSPC dream is still alive and I feel na may makakapasok na sa NSPC in the next batches. I also envision that every student that will join Rheims will have a very positive experience in the organization. May Rheims also serve as a catalyst and avenue for these staffers to dream, envision, perfect their expertise and overcome their fears.

For the heads of the organization this year, gaya ng sinabi ko sa convention natin, it’s your time and do what you love.

For my visions, I’ll be direct since I’ll follow the K.I.S.S principle a.k.a Keep It Short and Simple. May you keep the fire of our passion for our craft and service alive for the next generation of Heads, Staffers, Editors, and Artists. It is not as simple as consistently continuing the things that we’ve started. I do want you guys to find new ways of delivering your service to the community through your own batch identities. Maybe have a new way of broadcasting or a new segment. More than that, I envision Rheims to be known in the City and in the nation as one of the top school publications out there. I know it takes time and effort but I believe that we will get there soon.

Our seniors have set the foundations of our organization, it is up to the next batch/es on how will they follow up.

Besides, it is your time, not ours. We do not want to limit what you can do and might be doing. Who knows what doors of opportunities may open for you, right? Besides, trying out new things is exciting and pushing, isn’t it?

Additionally, I do hope that Rheims could once again take a stance in the annual NSPC. It has been years since ASJ and Rheims were able to participate in it. We were able to reach RSPC this year which is an achievement on its own. However, I believe that there will be better and more refined writers compared to us that are and would be in Rheims. Go for gold!!
