Minnesota State Fair 2016 Be part of the Great Minnesota GetTogether at the Minnesota State Fair.

The 2016 Minnesota State Fair is Aug. 25 to Sept. 5 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, 1265 North Snelling Ave., St. Paul.

Nearly 500 foods are available from 300 food concessions with more than 70 foods on-a-stick that include deepfried candy bars, hot dish, spaghetti and meatballs, key lime pie, walleye and pork chops.

The Mighty Midway features more than 30 carnival rides and 50 games while the Kidway offers 30-plus carnival rides for pint-sized fair visitors.

The CHS Miracle of Birth Center is the birthplace of nearly 200 calves, lambs and piglets during the fair’s 12-day run. Little Farm Hands is a hands-on agricultural education exhibit where children experience the agricultural process, beginning at the farm and ending at the market.

Princess Kay of the Milky Way and her court have their likenesses carved into 90-pound blocks of butter in the Dairy Building each day of the fair.

More than 8,000 livestock competitors showcasing more than 20,000 animals vie for ribbons and cash prizes totaling upwards of $1.4 million. More than 8,000 items are displayed in the creative activities department’s annual exhibition of Minnesota’s finest needlework, handcrafts, baking and canning.

Honey, flowers, giant vegetables, crop art, farm crops, Christmas trees, craft beer and fruit are showcased in the Agriculture Horticulture Building.

Iowa State Fair 2016 Annually attracting more than a million people from all over the world, the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines is Iowa’s great celebration, a salute to the state’s best in agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement.

The Iowa State Fair, located at East 30th and East University, just 10 minutes from downtown Des Moines, is Aug. 11-21. The fair is open from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily. Most fair buildings are open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. No entry or reentry after 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Blue Ribbon Kids, the Fair's special club for ages 10 and under, allows children to experience the fair from a unique perspective. Blue Ribbon Kids members will get a rare glimpse at the heart of the Iowa State Fair and become part of the action during special kids' club activities. Blue Ribbon Kids' Club members not only get a hands-on Fair experience but will receive a birthday card and a quarterly newsletter after signing up.

Each weekday during the Fair, kids' club members will have the opportunity to participate in seven free funfilled activities. All events start at 10 a.m. at the Kids' Club Tent in the Kids' Zone located just north of Little Hands on the Farm and will last 30-60 minutes. Children can sign up at any Kids' Club event or download the Blue Ribbon Kids membership form, fill it out and bring it to the event.

Located in Kids Zone, Little Hands on the Farm teaches children ages 2 to 10 become farmers at this free, handson exhibit.
