YOUR VOICE. YOUR VOTE. YOUR

Wayne Parrish, RITE Technology

Brittany Lamont, LWRBA

As I look back on this year, one thing keeps coming to mind: How did it go by so fast?

Election season is here. While statewide and national races often receive the most attention, some of the decisions that have the greatest impact on our community happen much closer to home.

When I began my year as Chair, I knew I was stepping into an incredible organization. What I didn’t fully appreciate was how much I would enjoy being even closer to the staff, our Board, and the volunteers who make the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance so special. Our committee changes have been one of the highlights of the year. We set out to create more focused opportunities for engagement, and we’ve seen those changes come to life. The Small Business Collaborative has been a great example. The incredible turnout and participation have shown us just how much our members value having a place to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. That success has also given us a glimpse into what could be possible in 2027, with conversations already underway about additional collaborative opportunities for our members. As Nick Feather of Capstan Financial prepares for his year as Chair, we’ve also been working closely together on the Alliance’s next strategic plan. It has been rewarding to help shape what comes next while knowing the organization is in such capable hands. I also want to recognize my team at RITE Technology for their support throughout this year. Serving as Chair requires a commitment of time and energy, and I am grateful to work alongside a team that has encouraged me, supported me, and made it possible for me to give the Alliance the attention it deserves. This year has been an incredible experience, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve. Most of all, I’ve gained an even greater appreciation for the people behind the Alliance. Thank you for making this year so special. I can’t wait to see where we go next.

COMMUNITY

This November, voters will weigh in on races and issues at every level of government, including important local races, referendums and constitutional amendments. These decisions can directly influence infrastructure, public safety, workforce development, education, taxes, and the overall business climate of our region. For the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance, civic engagement is an important part of building a strong business community. Our message to our members is simple: be informed and vote. Take the time to understand what is on your ballot. Research the candidates, read the ballot language, and consider how proposed policies may affect your business, your employees, and our community. One issue our Governmental Affairs Committee has spent considerable time discussing this year is Amendment 3 and its potential impact on Florida’s property tax system. The Alliance is committed to educating our members and the community on Amendment 3 and its potential impacts. As discussions around property tax reform continue, we believe it is important that any changes provide meaningful relief without shifting an increased tax burden onto Florida businesses or replacing property taxes with additional fees that create new costs for employers. Our goal is not to tell our members how to vote. It is to ensure the business community understands what is at stake and has the information needed to make an informed decision. Whether you are passionate about transportation, education, public safety, taxes, workforce issues or the future growth of our region, your ballot is an opportunity to make your voice heard. This November, I encourage you to learn about the races and issues on your ballot and, most importantly, get out and vote.

THE 2026 ALLIANCE GIVES BACK

VOLUNTEER DAYS The Alliance extends heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of this year’s Alliance Gives Back! For nine years, Alliance Gives Back (AGB) has bridged the gap between non-profits and for-profit businesses by providing easy access to various volunteer opportunities to our large network of LWRBA Members. During this three-day initiative, over 350 volunteers gave back to nearly 30 volunteer projects, contributing more than 1,200 volunteer hours and representing an estimated $43,000 in donated time to our non-profit community. Building meaningful connections between the non-profit and for-profit sectors, volunteers helped with everything from constructing a home, organizing clothes, painting the walls of an afterschool program and more! Thanks to your support, the initiative continues to grow in impact and reach. Thank you for making Alliance Gives Back possible—and powerful.

CHEESE!

The Alliance is gearing up for the last quarter of the year! We strengthened connections at our monthly luncheons and networking socials while prepping for an exciting season of events. Take a look at the highlights below!

Willis Smith Construction: Proud to Call Lakewood Ranch Home

SPOTLIGHT For over 54 years, Willis Smith Construction has built the landmarks that define Southwest Florida, and Lakewood Ranch has been part of that story since before Lakewood Ranch Blvd was even parceled out for our building, back when the road itself was still incomplete. We embraced LWR from the very beginning, completing our LEED® Gold offices here in 2009.

That relationship deepened through the trust of Rex Jensen and the SMR team, who entrusted us with projects including SMR’s 32,000 square foot corporate headquarters and the 11-building Waterside Place development. We hold the utmost respect for Rex and for SMR; we have never failed on a project, and that track record is something our whole team takes personally.

WANT MORE OF THE ALLIANCE? FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

Today, with David Otterness having served as chairman of the LWR Business Alliance and Brittany leading the organization, we could not be prouder to watch it grow. Our mission runs parallel with both the Alliance commitment to strengthening the business community and SMR vision of building a place that feels like home. Being located in the Ranch, we feel like family, and we look forward to building more community landmarks here for generations to come. Picture One: Willis Smith Construction headquarters. CEO SPOTLIGHT

Health Education for Today’s Workforce A reusable message for Florida Blue’s community partners WE HEARD YOU Recruiting and retaining employees continues to challenge businesses throughout the Greater Tampa Bay area. These challenges are especially significant for employers that rely on part-time, seasonal, hourly, or no salaried employees. Business owners want to support their teams, but traditional group health insurance may be too costly, complex, or unavailable for some employees. Employers and HR professionals may also lack the information needed to guide employees toward other healthcare options.

OPEN ENROLLMENT Begins

11/01/2026 January 1 coverage deadline

12/15/2026 Enrollment ends

WHY HEALTH EDUCATION MATTERS Health literacy helps employees understand their healthcare options and make informed decisions for themselves and their families. Through the Working Uninsured Program, [PARTNER ORGANIZATION] and Florida Blue are helping close this information gap. Florida Blue educators provide guidance based on each person’s circumstances. Their focus is education and helping individuals understand the resources that may be available to them.

01/15/2027 WORKFORCE IMPACT

80,000+ small-business employees

361,000 part-time workers

MORE SUPPORT FOR YOUR WORKFORCE This voluntary program gives employers a practical way to share valuable healthcare information without placing the program on the employer’s payroll. It also provides a clear resource for employees who may not have access to traditional group coverage. Keeping employees informed about their health and well-being is an important part of supporting a team. As Open Enrollment approaches, business owners can share these resources so employees can explore their healthcare options.

EDUCATOR OUTREACH Florida Blue educators may reach out to business owners and team members to answer questions and help ensure their educational and informational needs are met.

GET TO KNOW OUR

DEPUTY CHAIR

GET TO KNOW THE REST OF THE BOARD

Chris Williams Managing Director, Aginto | A Digital Agency My family and I live in Parrish, and my office is in Sarasota. That puts Lakewood Ranch right in the middle for me. While I’ve been an Alliance member for years, I started serving on committees in 2022, and joined the board in 2025. Serving on the board and on committees has been one of the more rewarding commitments I’ve made, and it’s been huge for my business, my network, and my life. Nearly every meaningful relationship I have in this market started with showing up for something that had nothing to do with selling, or even business. Some of my closest friends I met at a Social, a luncheon, or serving together at a committee meeting. I’ve learned that the rooms we’re remembered in are the rooms that we show up for. I also co-chair the Small Business Collaborative, a monthly group exclusively for business-owners. Each month, we learn together, work through real problems, and grow our businesses and relationships. It’s the kind of thing that only works when people show up prepared to bring value to one another, and to show up for each other. If you’re on the fence about getting involved, this is your sign. Get involved. A deputy chair (often called a vice chair) on a Board of Directors is the second-in-command leader who supports the main chair and runs meetings when the primary chair is absent.

2026 LEADERSHIP

ACADEMY The Alliance is proud to celebrate another class of leaders who invested their time, energy and passion into growing as leaders and strengthening their impact in our community. A special thank you to Game On Nation for hosting and facilitating this year’s Leadership Academy. Founder, Steve Shenbaum, and Game On Expert Facilitators, Erin Watson and Will Luera, shared their expertise and created an engaging experience for our participants. Thank you to the Presenting Sponsor, Shumaker, for supporting this program and helping the Alliance provide valuable leadership development opportunities to our business community. And, most importantly, congratulations to the graduates! Moving forward, continue to lead, connect and make an impact. PRESENTED BY:
