Abogado clinched the third spot among the chosen representatives for the National SCUAA Swim Team after contributing 5 Gold and 1 Silver Medal for Bicol University. “Honestly, oo fulfilling siya like nakakaproud din na I was able to contribute sa medal tally ng [BU], but at the same time, with my past experiences sa swimming like nung palarong bicol and palarong pambansa dati, I know na yung swim ko nung SCUAA… its not my best, so medyo dissatisfying siya pero at the same time with the short amount of period na nakapag-training kami, fulfilling na rin siya”, Abogado answered when asked about how she feels in contributing six medals for the BU win.
Despite her wins, Abogado admitted that she had experienced difficulties during her competition. “Physically, yung butterfly kasi hindi ko naman talaga siya event. Kasi nung nagbigayan kami ng events, gusto namin fair yung distribution ng events like tig-four na individuals tas tigda-dalawang relay, pero yung sakin, I had to give away some of my events like yung 200 meter kasi magkasunuran lang siya nung isa ko ring major na event so wala akong rest, so I had to get another event which is yung two-fly and konti lang yung training ko ‘don as in so, doon talaga nag-struggle ako doon kasi kinakapos ako [sa hininga] tapos masakit na siya sa arms, masakit sa legs, pero mentally wise… pinaka-nahirapan ako is yung dun sa 800 meter freestyle ko which is yung first event ko and first event nung swimming kasi I was mentally not okay…”.
For team BU naman nakakaproud siya kasi kahit sa ibang sports, hindi lang sa swimming, nasweep din namin yung gold and mataas yung medal count namin and kahit na medyo hindi prepared lahat ng atheletes, katulad ng sabi ko, medyo rushed siya, konti yung time for training, we were still able to win the title of champion for SCUAA
On what she feels about the overall event and BU bagging the Championship title, Abogado has this to say: “The event overall…it was… very fun, like na-enjoy siya ng mga athletes kahit sa biliting pa lang kami, doon sa quarters na tinutulugan namin masaya na siya kasi may pa-videoke yung BU, may catering services, tapos pati yung mga profs na kasama namin very enjoy siya and maganda yung facilities ng CBSUA so naging kumportable rin kaming mga athletes…”.
Meanwhile, Jasper Guardian together with the BU RSCUAA Sepak Takraw Team finished with Silver after battling the top spot with Catanduanes State University. In a separate interview with Guardian, he incited their team’s preparations for the event. “We practice within the BU oval every day after class. We follow a set plan that includes stretches, drills, actual play, and at times a tune-up with players from outside of the school. We continue to work on our connections with one another especially because it is an important thing to have when playing inside the court.”
Guardian together with his team reiterated that they were confident in their competition during the RSCUAA and did not have any difficulties during the event. ”We have a lot of confidence going into the competition because we are one of the RSCUAA’s powerhouses in the sepak takraw event.
On bringing home the silver medal for Bicol University and its overall win, Guardian gave his positive remarks. “ It is one of the best achievements
We are confident in our readiness and excitement for the game, therefore we have no worries before the game. Almost every one of the teams in the competition is strong, but we overcame this by using all of our skills, putting our trust in our teammates, getting support from the crowd, and most importantly, enjoying the game.
I’ve got. I am very happy that all of our sacrifices starting from our training until the event paid off. Every single sweat we exerted was worth it. What I can say about the result is that the Bicol University RSCUAA team deserves it.”
Bicol University has emerged victorious after sweeping off the Regional SCUUA Competitions with 117 Gold, 54 Silver, and 31 Bronze medals respectively, and brought home the OVERALL CHAMPION title among nine participating universities and colleges.
I witnessed how Bicol University supports its athletes and also how athletes give their best just to give honor to their beloved university so it was a welldeserved spot to be on the top. It showcases how students work hard just to bring honor to the school.
