Obituary Philippians 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, do and the God of Peace shall be with you.

On October 16, 2024, God whispered to Markell affectionally called (Marcus) and said your work on Earth is complete, time to come home.

He was born on December 18,1958 to the late Rufus and Viola Elder and was the oldest of 3 siblings. He was the oldest of 3 siblings. His primary studies began in Valdosta Georgia’s Central Elementary and Pineview Elementary Schools in Tallahassee, Florida. He graduated from Atlanta’s Walter F. George in 1977, he joined the U.S. ARMY and was discharged with Honors.

Markell confessed Christ at an early age. He joined Grace Baptist Church and the Men’s ministry as a Greeter in the Lord’s house and served until his death. He was a man of faith and was not ashamed to share with others about the Love of his Savior.

Markell was employed by Georgia Department of Transportation as a Assistant Commissioner until his death. Markell loved his wife; family and he will be truly missed. He was a die-hard Atlanta Falcons fan and stayed loyal to the end. His precious memories will be left in the hearts of his loving wife Margaret of 24 years, his children, Charnissa (Kevon), Lloyd (Adrienne), Kristy, Markesha (Gary), Steven (Jim), his 13 grandkids and all named Junior Flips. His siblings Gregory, Anthony (Delores), and Barbara (late Dwight), in laws Earl (late Julia) (late Thomas), 2 aunts Joyce and Evelyn, 1 Uncle Stanley, 2 sisters in Love Laverne and Queenie, 1 brother in love Bernard (Connie), and host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Special friends Roderick & Tawana, Alvin & Marcy, Fayeshua, Rico, Jay, Harold & Family. His death has left a void in all our hearts. He had a special bond with his siblings and was very protective of his sister (1 and only sister). He was loved by all that knew him. He loved fall colors and cool weather. His favorite scripture is 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18

My Soulmate, Honey, Boo Boo, Pumpkin, and whatever I called you at that moment, you answered them all. Babe, you got me this time. I don’t know how I am going to do life without you.

You were my best friend, lover, confidant, sound board, and all I needed you to be.

From the moment we met, you had my heart, and I had yours. We were each other’s protectors. My heart is in pieces, but I know that you are with me, your spirit is guiding me through this process, and I trust God’s will. There will never be another, but I promise that I will remain strong, my faith will not waver because GOD called your name and you answered, now you are resting with the angels.

I love you, my sweet husband, your memories will forever be in my heart. We had so many plans after your retirement in December, but I guess the saying is true: make GOD laugh, tell him your plans. Now who’s going to do laundry, ironing, picking out my clothes, and fixing Hamburger Helper, (LOL). And don’t forget on Falcon game day, you can’t be clapping and yelling at the tv because you going to scare the Angels.

It’s crazy how we are taught the circle of life, you are born, you live, and you die. But one thing we are not prepared for is the emptiness you feel when someone you love completes that circle. When I was a child, I had very little memories of my dad. I only really knew what I was told, but as I got older that

was not enough for me. When I was presented with the opportunity to share life with my dad, I ran at the chance. To this day, that decision was never regretted. I got to experience a God loving, sweet, and caring dad. He always expressed his love and how proud he was of me. Dad knew I was strong and could do anything I put my mind into. I’m going to miss calling you or walking through the door hearing hey punkin or hey baby. On Sunday’s making fun of you ironing with all that starch. My greatest memory was the look on your face and tears in your eyes when I walked down the stairs for my wedding. You told me I was so beautiful, how happy and honored you were to walk me down the aisle. You knew I would be ok, and you loved my husband knowing how much he loved me. Hey son-in-law (in dad’s voice) made me smile every time. I love you daddy, your voice, your laugh, your hugs and conversations on the phone will forever live in my heart. Never too far away.

Real and Rough, You Grandad were the definition of tough.

Always leading your family in prayer.

When the church doors opened, You’d be there.

Never wrong, always right.

To your wandering Grandkids you were a beacon of light.

Dashing and Dear, you were always there to lend a hand or an ear.

Peaceful and kind, loving your family was first on your mind.

An admired Angel, we love so truly this anniversary we deeply miss you.

Pop What can we say. You were a part of our lives for 24 years and for that we are thankful and blessed. You accepted us as your own, loving us unconditionally. We never said step, it was always just Pop. Thank you for loving mom as much as you do. We found great peace in knowing she was safe and secure.
