Welcome to the Spring edition of Encore. Maroubra Fun Run We are excited to once again be the major sponsor of the Maroubra Fun Run & Oktoberfest, taking place on Sunday, 25 October at Arthur Byrne Reserve in South Maroubra. Celebrating its 28th year, this muchloved community event welcomes runners and walkers of all abilities to take on either the 4km or 8km course. Beyond the race, there will be market stalls, children's rides and plenty of entertainment, making it a fantastic day out for the whole family. The Maroubra Fun Run is one of our favourite community events each year, and I encourage all our members to get involved. Whether you're running, walking or simply cheering everyone on, we look forward to seeing you there as we tackle the famous rolling hills of South Maroubra together. Melbourne Cup & Everest Calcuttas The countdown is on to our annual Melbourne Cup Calcutta, one of my favourite events on the club calendar. This year we're raising the bar by guaranteeing a $100,000 prize pool, making it the biggest Calcutta in the club's history. Gather your syndicates and join us on Sunday, 1 November, with proceedings commencing from 3:30pm for what promises to be another unforgettable afternoon.

I'm also pleased to announce the return of our Everest Calcutta for its second year. Held in Henry's Sports Bar on Friday, 16 October, the evening before Australia's richest race, the event will once again be hosted by Greg Radley from Sky Racing. We see enormous potential for this event to become one of The Juniors' premier annual traditions. Tickets for both Calcuttas will be available two weeks prior to each event. Celebrating Alex Johnston We were honoured to have recently hosted a special celebration dinner in The Wintle Theatre recognising Alex Johnston becoming the highest try scorer in Rugby League history. A proud La Perouse junior who progressed through The Juniors and South Sydney
Rabbitohs pathways, Alex's remarkable achievement is one that our entire community celebrates. We're also proud to have secured the record-breaking jersey Alex wore on that historic occasion. It is now proudly displayed outside Henry's Sports Bar, where members and guests can view this unique piece of Rugby League history. Supporting Jai Arrow The club was also privileged to secure, at auction, the unique Jai Arrow White Jersey, signed by both the Rabbitohs and Broncos following their recent clash. The jersey was created to support Jai and his family following his Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis, with proceeds helping raise much-needed funds and awareness. We proudly stand with Jai during this difficult time, and members can now view this special jersey outside the entrance to Henry's Sports Bar. All Things Footy As this magazine goes to print, we're approaching the conclusion of another outstanding Junior Rugby League season. Participation across both boys' and girls' competitions has remained exceptionally strong, highlighting the continued growth of our great game. A sincere thank you goes to our League Department, led by Luke Curry, along with our incredible volunteers whose passion and dedication make these competitions possible year after year. Finally, I wish the mighty South Sydney Rabbitohs every success as they continue their push towards the finals. Henry's Sports Bar Upgrade
Celebrate Father's Day
I'm pleased to report that we've recently completed several exciting improvements to Henry's Sports Bar. The centrepiece is the installation of a stunning 4-metre LED screen, providing an outstanding viewing experience for live sport. We've also reconfigured the venue with new lounge seating to create a more comfortable, amphitheatre-style environment where members can relax and enjoy all the action. If you haven't visited Henry's recently, I encourage you to drop in and experience the upgrades for yourself.
Father's Day falls on Sunday, 6 September, and we'd love to help you celebrate the important father figures in your life. Our venues offer a range of excellent dining experiences, including Treasures Chinese Restaurant, Aristo Greek Restaurant, and the Sundeck Brasserie, where we'll be featuring a delicious Premium Steak Experience. Guests ordering from the Grill menu or enjoying the Special at Sundeck Brasserie will also receive a complimentary drink. Bookings are recommended and can be made through our website.
Oktoberfest Comes to Henry's
Award-Winning Live Entertainment
October will see Henry's host its very first Oktoberfest, and we're looking forward to bringing a taste of Germany to The Juniors. Throughout the month we'll be serving the authentic German Festbier as our Beer of the Month, while stocks last.
The Juniors recently won the coveted Venue Award for Excellence & Commitment to Entertainment at the ACE awards for all we do in the live entertainment space. This award is voted on by the club entertainment industry, and we are very humbled that our venue has been awarded the highest honour in clubland. We have worked hard to provide what we believe is the best showroom anywhere in Australia. It's been wonderful to see so many sold-out performances in recent months, with members continuing to support our outstanding entertainment program.
The celebrations culminate on Friday, 9 October, with Oktoberfest Rocks featuring live entertainment from The Toxic Dolls, a traditional Bavarian Oompah band and a range of delicious German-inspired food specials. Add our popular 49% Happy Hour from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, and it's shaping up to be a fantastic evening. Excellence in Entertainment The Juniors is proud to have been recognised at the Australian Club Entertainment (ACE) Awards, taking home the prestigious Venue Award for Excellence and Commitment to Entertainment in May this year.

The award celebrates venues that consistently deliver outstanding entertainment experiences and acknowledges the passion, investment and dedication that goes into creating memorable moments for members and guests.
"The Wintle Theatre allows us to present an incredible variety of entertainment," Brad said.
As The Juniors approaches its 70th year, entertainment remains one of the Club's defining pillars. For generations, members and guests have enjoyed everything from live music and comedy to rock concerts, tribute shows and spectacular stage productions. It is a tradition that continues to evolve while staying true to the Club's commitment to bringing people together. The achievement is also a testament to the ongoing support of the Board of Directors, who have long recognised the importance of entertainment in enriching the member experience. "Entertainment has always been at the heart of what we do," said Executive Manager of Marketing, Entertainment, Functions and Fitness, Brad Stanford. "For almost 70 years, our Board has understood that great entertainment creates great clubs. Their continued support allows us to invest in quality productions, attract outstanding performers and provide experiences that keep our members coming back." At the centre of the Club's entertainment offering is the iconic Wintle Theatre, which has become one of Sydney's premier club entertainment venues. Throughout the year, the theatre hosts an exciting

As the Club prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary, members can look forward to another exciting year of live entertainment, unforgettable performances and first-class shows in the Wintle Theatre. CELEBRATES A RECORD-BREAKING SEASON The Juniors Group of Clubs is proud to continue its longstanding support of South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club through our annual ClubGRANTS program, helping the Club continue its vital work in keeping our community safe while developing the next generation of lifesavers. The 2025/26 season has been one of the most successful in the Club's 67-year history. Membership has grown from 1,000 members a decade ago to more than 2,500 members, while the Club once again operated Australia's largest Nipper Program, with more than 1,300 young members learning valuable surf awareness and lifesaving skills. The Club's achievements extended well beyond the beach. South Maroubra was recognised with the Randwick City Australia Day Community Service Group Award and achieved outstanding competitive success, finishing 3rd overall at the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships and 8th overall at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships (The Aussies)—its highest-ever national ranking. South Maroubra reached a historic milestone when the Under 23 March Past Team secured the Club's inaugural Australian Championship. Across the Branch, State and Australian Championships, the Club delivered an outstanding performance, winning 46 gold, 38 silver and 31 bronze medals. Numerous other members also progressed to championship finals, showcasing the remarkable depth and strength of South Maroubra's athletes. These achievements are a testament to the Club's ongoing growth and development, made possible

through the enduring support and generous contribution of its major sponsor, The Juniors Group of Clubs. The team was coached by Juniors member and Fitness Centre regular George Alexiou, while Australian champions Vectis Buckett and Jasmine Alexiou are members of the Seas the Limit Swim Squad, coached by Chad Schneider at The Juniors Fitness Centre Pool. Many South Maroubra members train regularly at The Juniors before competing across a wide range of surf sports disciplines. While competition success was remarkable, the Club's greatest achievement remains its commitment to community safety. Throughout the season, volunteer lifesavers completed 38 rescues, administered 98 first aid treatments, and carried out more than 1,770 preventative actions to keep beachgoers safe. The Club continued to invest in education and member development, with 81 Bronze Medallions, 88 Surf Rescue Certificates and 46 Advanced Resuscitation Certificates completed during the year. Our patrolling members also contributed an impressive 13,611 volunteer patrol hours in support of beach safety. The Juniors Group of Clubs congratulates everyone at South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club on an exceptional season. We are proud to support an organisation whose volunteers, members and families make such a positive difference to our local community year after year.

For more than 20 years, Sea's The Limit Swim Squad has been helping swimmers of all ages and abilities achieve their personal best at The Juniors Fitness Centre. Whether your goal is to improve your fitness, enjoy the social side of swimming, compete in surf club racing, or prepare for your next open water challenge, our experienced coaching team provides a supportive and motivating environment to help you succeed. Our specialised training caters for: • Surf Life Saving competitors, from Nippers through to Masters • Community ocean swim events • Open water races from 1km to 5km • 10km marathon swimming competitions • Ultra-marathon swims of 25km and beyond • Fitness and social swimmers looking to stay active Led by Head Coach Chad Schneider, who brings over 35 years of coaching experience and is accredited by both ASCTA and Swimming Australia, the program has produced world-class results, including world-record performances, international medallists, Hall of Fame inductees and swimmers who have excelled at every level of competition. Joining Chad is Associate Head Coach Narelle Leitch, a Swimming Australia accredited coach with over 10 years' experience and an active competitor in local and interstate ocean swims. RUNNIN THE WOR FITNESS CENTRE spotlight

Crossing the finish line of the Boston Marathon this year was more than completing another race – it marked the end of a decade-long journey to earn the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Medal.
"Completing the Six Majors isn't just about running six races," says Raquel. "It's about everything that happens behind the scenes – the discipline, patience and consistency over many years."
By completing Boston, Raquel joined an exclusive group of runners who have finished all six World Marathon Majors: Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York.
Although Boston represented the final piece of the puzzle, the journey itself proved to be the greatest reward. From early morning training sessions to crossing finish lines in some of the world's most iconic cities, every experience helped shape both her running and personal growth.
While the achievement may sound like simply running six marathons, the reality is far more demanding. Each event requires months of dedicated training, international travel, careful planning and, in many cases, years of waiting to secure a coveted race entry. For Raquel, who lives and trains in Sydney, every marathon involved balancing work, family, travel and everyday life while staying healthy and injury-free. The journey also meant adapting to changing circumstances, including race cancellations during the COVID-19 pandemic, rising travel costs and the physical demands of competing across multiple continents.

Raquel's passion for endurance sport extends well beyond the marathon. She has completed ultramarathons, triathlons and numerous other endurance events, continually challenging herself to discover what's possible through commitment and perseverance.

LEARN TO SWIM WITH RAQUEL Raquel is also helping members of The Juniors community achieve their own fitness goals. As the Founder and Coach of R21 Fitness, Raquel provides adult swimming lessons at The Juniors Pool, helping swimmers of all abilities build confidence, improve technique and achieve their personal goals in the water. She works with everyone from complete beginners to experienced swimmers looking to refine their skills or prepare for new challenges. As a qualified fitness coach, AUSTSWIM Swimming Instructor and Running Coach, Raquel also offers personalised running and fitness coaching designed to improve strength, endurance and overall wellbeing.
Drawing on her own experience in marathons, ultramarathons, swim marathons and triathlons, Raquel is passionate about helping others discover their potential—whether that's in the pool, on the track or simply through leading a healthier, more active lifestyle. Congratulations to Raquel on this remarkable achievement and for inspiring our members to pursue their own fitness goals.
