Presidents Report

A warm welcome to 2023 and the latest edition of the “Encore” magazine. Once again, it’s packed with information on everything the Juniors Group of Clubs has to offer. We have continued to provide as many events, shows & promotions as we can to encourage our members to visit the club. We look forward to seeing you at any of our three venues soon.

The Juniors Fitness Centre Renovation

The Juniors Fitness Centre has undergone a major transformation over the Christmas period with a complete renovation of all equipment and an upgrade of the group training room. The fitness centre now features the latest in Life Fitness cardio machines including, runners, bikes, stair climbers, and cross trainers. We also have the latest Hammer Strength weights and pin loaded machines. The good news is we still offer over 50 classes per week and are the most competitively priced gym in the Eastern Suburbs and now one of the most modern. With no lock in contracts starting from only $16.95 per week it’s well worth checking out.

Junior League Report

The 2023 season is shaping up as another great year for our Junior League. As always, the Souths Juniors Rugby League competition is one of the most pro-active junior organisations in the state and we are always on the lookout for new players. The NRL have an excellent website www.playnrl.com where all the rules are easily explained using simple graphics. From there you can simply type in your postcode and it will list all the local clubs in your area you can play with. You can always just come directly to us at www.southsjuniors.com.au too if you wish to. Rugby league in our area is a great low cost winter sport that encourages teamwork and responsibility. As well as welcoming in new players we are always in need of volunteers for a variety of roles. If you are a member of the club and have some spare time on the weekends we’d love to hear from you. Planning Ahead

The directors and management undertook a process of mapping out our future during 2022 and we are continuing to push forward to set a firm pathway ahead for the success and viability into the future. It is never easy to forecast what will happen in the short and long term especially with issues like cashless gaming, and other regulatory issues clouding the next few years and potential revenues. We are committed however to growing our membership, visitation, and relevance of our offering to our current and future members to enjoy. Stay tuned for further updates on our vision for the future.

The Rabbitohs Administration is on the Move

The Rabbitohs administration team have been calling the Juniors Kingsford home for the past three years. The plan was always to relocate here whilst the centre of excellence was being built at Heffron Park. It is an exciting time for the Rabbitohs as their team and office staff re-unite in a state-of-the-art facility which should set a great base for the season ahead. It has been great having Blake Solly and his dedicated team of professionals in and around the club over this time. The office space has been tenanted by local real estate agency NG Farah and we look forward to welcoming them to the club in 2023.

Anzac Day Dawn Service

The traditional Anzac Day dawn service will once again be held at the Cenotaph on Anzac Parade just across from Juniors Maroubra. The service takes place at 4:30am Tuesday 25th April. It is one of the most important days on the Juniors Calendar as we join with the Maroubra RSL subbranch in honouring the men and women who gave their lives for this great country all those years ago. The spirit is well and truly alive, and all are welcome to pay their respects.

CEO’S Report

Welcome members to 2023 and we hope that you find the time to enjoy any or all of our three venues. There is lots to look forward to in the coming year ahead and as usual we will be offering the best in entertainment, food, promotions and live sport. We hope you can visit us in the next three months.

Cashless Gaming

Members would be aware of the current push to introduce cashless gaming cards in our venues. There has been a lot of talk in the media recently but that is what most of it is… just uninformed talk on something they do not understand. The proposed systems have not worked in other jurisdictions where they have been tried e.g., Canada. It appears that they are trying to fix a problem (money laundering) that does not exist in our industry. Here is a quote direct from the crime commissions recent media release “the inquiry found that the cleaning of the proceeds of crime is not widespread in Clubs and pubs as processing vast sums of cash is inefficient compared to other avenues for laundering. However, large sums of the proceeds of crime are being gambled by criminals in pubs and clubs across the state rewarding and perpetrating crime in the community”.

This shows money is not being laundered in Clubs, but criminals are using the proceeds of crime to fund gambling and other everyday habits. It appears to go unnoticed that this money is used for food, fuel, school fees, rent, mortgages, overseas holidays, and a myriad of other expenses. It is disappointing that we are the only industry that is being targeted to try and control this. Is this an admission from government that they can’t control it??

The financial effect on our industry would be immense, it would over complicate something as simple as a member wanting to put $20 in a gaming machine. They would have to register and get a card, before being able to play a machine. We are sure this is something that the members would not welcome.

We welcome any proven evidence-based system that will help reduce or prevent these activities. All we ask for is consultation so that we can come up with a system that will work and benefit everyone. The introduction of an ineffective system could also mean that we would not be able to support our 2,500+ Junior League players as we do now. Not everyone is aware that we are the only sporting organisation that offers totally free registration for all participants in our competition. We would also be unable to offer member benefits like subsidised food, entertainment, and other services.

My information is even if the government legislated for the system to come in now, the technology to make it happen is two to three years away. Let’s all hope that common sense can prevail.

Our very popular 49% off drinks Happy Hour is back in March. This is one of our most popular promotions of the year and will co-incide with the start of the NRL and AFL seasons. With 49% off all drinks excluding cocktails between 5-7pm it’s a great way to kick off a night’s festivities at any of our venues. It’s the best deal in town so make the most of it!

Entertainment Highlights

The Wintle Theatre is once again hosting a galaxy of stars in the next three months. We have two huge weekends coming including Killer Queen over two nights in March. Both shows sold out last year so get your tickets early if you are planning on attending. The other big weekend features local legends Jellybean Jam who are celebrating 30 years in the business with two shows in May exclusive to the Juniors. These are the official 30 year shows and will be great nights of dancing and singalongs. Get your tickets now.

When you join the club you start off as a Base Member, which entitles you to a member’s discount on food and beverages, show tickets and fitness centre. By using your membership card when purchasing the above items as well as playing gaming machines, you earn points.

HOW ARE POINTS ALLOCATED?

You will earn two sets of points that will go towards the following accounts:

HOW CAN I USE MY GRADE POINTS?

You cannot use your Grade Points. These are used entirely for the purpose of determining your reward tier level. Grade points reset each year on the 1st of September. You can check both your bonus & grade point balance at a kiosk at anytime.
