MARGARITA Spicy Coconut
These super-yummy margaritas from the Fraiche Food Fuller Hearts Cookbook are incredibly easy to make and always a hit. It’s the perfect balance of creamy coconut with a bright, zesty kick of lime and an unexpected hint of heat from the jalapeño. One sip and I swear you can feel a warm breeze and sand between your toes. It’s the ultimate “vacation in a glass”! Serve these on the rocks in large tumbler glasses or traditional margarita glasses to feel like you’re on an instant getaway.
INGREDIENTS
3 tbsp (45 mL) agave syrup, divided
¼ cup (60 mL) sweetened shredded coconut, toasted
4 thin slices fresh jalapẽno pepper, or to taste, plus more to garnish
½ ounce fresh lime juice
⅓ cup (75 mL) canned full-fat coconut milk
2 ounces tequila
Handful of ice cubes, plus more for serving

DIRECTIONS
Set out two small plates. Put two tablespoons (30 mL) of the agave syrup on the first plate. Put the coconut on the second plate. Dip the rim of the margarita glasses in the agave syrup, then dip in the coconut to coat.
In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the jalapeño slices with the lime juice. Add the coconut milk, tequila, triple sec, and 1 tablespoon (15 mL) agave syrup. Fill the shaker halfway with ice and shake well to combine.
Fill the glasses with ice and strain the cocktail into the glasses. Garnish with a lime wheel and jalapẽno slice.

A Toothpaste With A Purpose
One of my favourite parts of curating each Jilly Box is sharing products I actually use every day, especially when they are made in Canada. I switched to Before years ago when looking for a cleaner toothpaste and haven’t looked back. Not only is Before good for our health, they’ve also pioneered the industry’s first 100% recyclable, plant-based sugarcane tube! I truly admire their passion and commitment to taking the “harder” route for the sake of the planet, so I sat down with Before’s cofounder and CEO, Steve Thorp, to talk about their path, their purpose, and, of course, their paste.
For those just being introduced to Before, can you tell us a bit about your brand?
Before is an award-winning oral care brand and our name comes from a simple but powerful idea: before everything you do, you self-care. We are driven by a relentless focus on product experience, thoughtful design, and environmental impact. Every ingredient, material, and detail is consciously chosen to ensure both performance and sustainability are uncompromising.
What was that ‘lightbulb moment’ that made you realize the oral care industry needed an intentional, sustainable shake-up?
The lightbulb moment came from frustration. We could not find a toothpaste that delivered true performance while aligning with modern values around clean ingredients and environmental responsibility. We realized oral care had been overlooked in the wellness conversation. It’s something we use every single day. Why shouldn’t it
meet the same standards we expect from our food, skincare, and lifestyle choices?
What are some of the hurdles you’ve experienced while building Before?
Building a brand that refuses to compromise is not the easiest path.
Sourcing premium, clean ingredients that meet both dental performance standards and our sustainability values takes time and persistence.
Developing innovative packaging, especially our sugarcane tube, required working closely with manufacturers willing to push boundaries.
There is also the challenge of education. Many consumers are just beginning to think about ingredients in oral care. Helping people understand that toothpaste can support overall health and environmental impact has been an ongoing journey. But every hurdle has reinforced why we started.

What makes Before toothpaste different from other brands?
A: Before toothpaste is designed to be effective, gentle, and intentional. Unlike many regular toothpastes that use petroleum-based foaming agents like SLS, artificial dyes, or peroxide, we use ingredients that support oral health without compromising your mouth or daily routine. For example, our Whitening formula uses nanohydroxyapatite to help remineralize enamel and sodium bicarbonate to lift surface stains, while a coconut-oil–derived foaming agent creates a smooth, enjoyable brushing experience.
What does it mean to you to be a ‘Canadian-owned’ brand in the global wellness space today?
A: Being Canadian-owned shapes our perspective deeply. Canada has a strong culture of environmental awareness, outdoor living, and community. Those values are embedded in our DNA. In the global wellness space, it means we show up with integrity, transparency, and a long-term mindset. A: Manufacturing in Canada allows us to maintain close relationships with our production partners and uphold rigorous quality standards. It gives us greater oversight, transparency, and accountability throughout the process. Keeping production close to home also supports local industry and reduces unnecessary transportation impacts.
this initiative means to you?
Can you tell us more about the journey to creating the industry’s first plantbased sugarcane tube?
A: Traditional toothpaste tubes are made from petroleum-based plastic and are incredibly difficult to recycle. We knew that if we were serious about environmental impact, packaging had to be part of the solution.
After extensive research, we partnered with manufacturers using bio-based resin derived from sugarcane. Sugarcane is a renewable resource that captures carbon as it grows, making it a significantly more responsible alternative to conventional plastic.
The result is a 100% recyclable, plant-based tube that performs exactly like traditional packaging but with a dramatically reduced environmental footprint. TO recycle your tube, just squeeze out excess, cut open and rinse if possible, and place it in your recycling bin.

Here’s how I’m curating a perfect day that feels like a world-class retreat right at home!
In the afternoon, the best place to be is by the water! I’ll blow up our oversized floaties and head to the dock with a plush towel!
My morning starts with coffee in my robe, minty toothpaste to wake up the senses, and a layer of SPF to prep my skin for a day in the sun.
I love getting some movement in before it gets too warm outside. A friendly game of pickleball is my new fun way to get the heart rate up and the laughs going. Reminder to always bring along a big water bottle!
As the sun sets, I’ll finish the day surrounded by family and great food! We’ll gather around a beautifully set summer table for a fresh dinner and linger long after the sun goes down.
