The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) provides essential food aid to individuals and families facing food insecurity. For over 40 years, COFB has been creating innovative solutions to hunger, supplying nutritional food assistance to over 10,000 people each month.

HELEN’S ACRES COMMUNITY FARM
Helen’s Acres is a 24-acre vegetable farm in the heart of Kelowna, BC. They work with volunteers to plant, weed and harvest a variety of fresh produce to donate directly to social agencies in their community.

Pull-Apart Garlic Bread Biscuits

I’m warning you now that once you bake these biscuits for a gathering you will be requested to bring them every time, they’re seriously that good and bonus; they’re pretty easy to bake!! Tori and I created this recipe for our Fraiche Food, Fuller Hearts cookbook as a way to add a twist to your standard garlic bread that everyone loves. I recommend pairing them with the SaltSpring Kitchen Co. Gourmet Preserve Collection in this box!
Makes 8 biscuits | Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes
INGREDIENTS
Biscuits:
2 cups (500 mL) all-purpose flour
4 tsp (20 mL) baking powder
1 tsp (5 mL) salt
1 tsp (5 mL) garlic powder
1 tsp (5 mL) dried parsley
½ cup (125 mL) cold butter or vegan butter, diced
½ cup (125 mL) grated Parmesan cheese or vegan parm
1 tbsp (15 mL) finely chopped fresh chives or parsley
DIRECTIONS
Make the biscuits:
1. Preheat the oven to 425 ° F (220 ° C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and parsley. Add the butter and, using your fingers or a pastry blender, break up the butter until the pieces are the size of peas. Stir in the Parmesan and chives.
3. In a measuring cup, whisk the egg. Add the buttermilk to the 1-cup (250 mL) mark and whisk to combine.
4. Add the buttermilk mixture to the flour mixture and mix together with a rubber spatula until just combined (do not overmix). If the mixture is too dry add a couple of tablespoons of buttermilk and give it a stir. It should be thick enough to scoop.
1 egg or flax egg
¾ to 1 cup (175 to 250 mL) buttermilk or substitute for a vegan non-dairy buttermilk
Garlic Butter:
¼ cup (60 mL) butter or vegan butter
1 clove garlic, smashed or minced
5. Using a 4-ounce (115 g/size 8) cookie scoop, scoop 8 portions of dough and arrange on the prepared baking sheet, 1 in the middle and 7 in a circle, just touching each other. Bake until they are golden brown on the bottom, about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile make the garlic butter:
Melt the butter with the garlic in a small saucepan over low heat (or in a microwave safe container in the microwave).
Brush the warm biscuits with the Garlic Butter and serve. Store any extras in a resealable container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

This duo includes one moisturizing mineral sunscreen (SPF 30) and one after sun soothing aloe mist that is perfect for treating sunburns or for just wanting to hydrate your skin after a day in the sun! I’m always trying to find a sunscreen that is good for the environment, my skin, and for the kids and these products check all of those boxes!

I have loved the amazing SaltSpring Kitchen Co. products for years and I’m so excited that we got to work with them to create this custom duo in this summer box! I chose the Apple & Fig spread and the Peach & Pepper Spicy Pepper spread for this duo because of course they are my favourite. When anyone thinks of peaches in Canada they think of Kelowna so I wanted to tie it back to where we are! Both are gluten free, and the Peach & Pepper Spicy Pepper is vegan.
