Giving Back With The Jilly Box Every season, we are proud to reinvest $2 CAD per box sold to support a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. Through the sales of The Fall 2023 Jilly Box, we were able to support these two amazing organizations by donating $40,000! Mamas for Mamas | $20,000

Central Okanagan Food Bank | $20,000

Mamas for Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to those facing various poverty-related struggles. For years, Mamas for Mamas has been a pillar in our community, and during the BC wildfires in August of this year, they were instrumental in wildfire relief efforts. Thanks to your support of The Fall 2023 Jilly Box, we reinvested $20,000 which is going to those who were impacted most. These relief efforts help parents navigate getting their children into new schools and getting them school supplies, supplying diapers/wipes/formula & food hampers while they are displaced, and even providing essential furniture like beds/mattresses.

The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) provides support to households facing financial and food insecurity within the surrounding region. In response to the devastating wildfires, the COFB quickly mobilized efforts to distribute food, water, and vital supplies on the front lines, as well as to those displaced from their homes. Thanks to this community’s ongoing support of The Jilly Box, we were able to invest $20,000 to their Wildfire Relief initiative to help them continue to deliver nonperishable food, hygiene products, baby supplies and more to those displaced. cofoodbank.com

Glühwein With A Twist!

WINTER 2023

There is no better way to warm up after a day out in the cold than with a hot mug of Glühwein, better known as mulled wine! This is my cousin Sammy’s recipe which was inspired by our trip together to Austria back in 2017! We would often sip on a warm mug of Glühwein as we cruised the holiday markets and explored Europe. If you want to serve a seasonal warm bevy (to the adults!) at your holiday gathering, this is a great option!

INGREDIENTS

¾ Cup of Water

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large pot, bring the sugar and water to a boil.

One of my favourite winter accessories is a toque with a big pom pom! And, thanks to Little Buck, a brand I have adored for a long time, they were able to help me design one of my very own! This custom Jilly Box toque comes in two different colours—blue and pink—and has “Après Ski’’ written in a beautiful font. It’s made with recycled polyester and acrylic to ensure the perfect stretch and is actually produced right here in Canada!! I was first introduced to Little Buck when they sent hats to Leo when he was a newborn, so to work with them all these years later to create this hat for you has been amazing! I can’t wait to see you all wearing them!

One of the best things about Après Ski is the cozy vibes of the ski lodge or cabin after a long day… I wish I could create that same ambiance at home. With the Alpine Bells, you can! Bring a sense of warm nostalgia and rusticness to your space with the addition of these charming bells. This style of bells was originally used by cattle farmers to keep track of grazing herds in the Alps. Eventually, the bells became a winter staple when those same farmers used them to cheer on skiers!

Something that always gets me in the mood for the winter season is decorating the house! These adorable little houses are Scandinavian-inspired and handmade! I remember setting up little holiday villages when I was a kid, and these are elevated versions of those. The Journey to Achieving B Corp Status For years, when I have been approached by prospective entrepreneurs for business advice, the first thing I have asked them is, “What is your why?” In essence I’m asking, what drives you to do what you do? What is the greater purpose? We at The Jilly Box have applied that question during company goal setting practices and throughout the evolution of The Jilly Box. And, during one of those discussions three and a half years ago, I presented the idea to the team of applying to become a certified benefit corporation for both Jillian Harris Design Inc. and The Jilly Box. For me, achieving B Corp status would be a way to ensure that we never lost sight of our why: to give back and to do good. That is why today, I’m so proud to announce that after YEARS of hard work... we are officially a B Corp certified company!! What is B Corp? B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. More simply put, B Corp is “a business that is a force for good.” B Corp certifica-

More Than a Box At the heart of both of my businesses has been a central why: to do good in our local and broader communities. On the surface, The Jilly Box is a quarterly themed subscription box filled with beautifully made items that I and Team Jilly Box love! But, it is so much more than that: it is a box that amplifies small, local businesses; it is a box that features products from a diverse range of entrepreneurs, many of whom are from marginalized communities; it is a box that is thoughtfully made with the environment in mind; and most importantly it is a box that gives

How to Style The Perfect Après Ski Outfit When Justin and I take the kids to our local mountain, Big White, I love to have some fun with my outfit! After all, I’m not hopping on a snowboard like the rest of our family, so why not put my best style foot forward, right?

STEP ONE: CROP TOP My base layer is usually one of the Simply Merino crop tops; they are made of the softest Australian Merino wool and keep me warm on those cold days. I love being able to peel off some layers when we go inside for a little Après bevy!

STEP TWO: LEGGINGS Thank goodness for the rise of athleisure wear these days because leggings were made for Canadian winters! Keep it simple by wearing your favourite coloured leggings and stay comfy all day long! STEP THREE: SWEATER Sweaters are not just a fall staple; they are an essential layering piece for chilly Canadian winters! I love to add a pop of colour to an outfit, whether it be with a bright top or a vibrant shade of lipstick. In this case, I wore my long-time favourite GoGo Sweater. STEP FOUR: PUFFER JACKET The only way to brave the cold is with a warm winter jacket. I finished off this look with one of our custom Avalon Puffer Jackets, of course! Leave it unzipped to show off your sweater, or zip it up for extra warmth! STEP FIVE: TOQUE A winter outfit wouldn’t be complete without a pom pom-topped toque! For this look, I’m wearing a cream and brown-coloured toque to compliment my leggings, but don’t forget the ones we’ve tucked inside your Jilly Box! STEP SIX: WINTER BOOTS Finally, lace up your warmest winter boots to brave the cold! I love a brown or tan pair. The colour is still classic and goes with everything, but it’s a little bit more fashion-forward than your average pair of black boots.

So, I wanted to share with you a few of my top winter getaway essentials that make those trips so much better! These items are also great for any days you spend outside, whether that’s on the mountain or tobogganing at home! Follow along to ensure you have everything you need for your next winter adventure!

INSULATED TUMBLER Prepare for a long day out in the cold weather with a warm cup of coffee or hot cocoa! To keep it hot for as long as possible, I always have to pack my Miir Tumblr. They are so cute and keep my drink warm! TOQUE As I have said before, one of my favourite winter accessories is a toque! A cute toque is just the thing you need to make sure you stay warm when you’re in the cold while also looking your best! I love to toss on my Backwoods Pom Toque from Little Buck and head out for the day! A GAME You HAVE to bring some entertainment to keep the fun going well into the night, and there’s nothing better than bringing a good-old-fashioned board game—or better yet—a deck of cards!

SLIPPERS There’s nothing like getting cozy in your pjs with a blanket after a long day on the slopes… so I’ve heard! LOL! I was inside all day! Don’t forget to pack your favourite pair of slippers. Our pair of choice are the Samara Fuzzy Slippers, of course! EXTRA LAYERS Whenever I am spending any time outside in the freezing temperatures, I make sure to layer up! And one of the most important layers is your base layer. You also need to create a solid foundation to make sure you’re comfy and warm! I like to wear my Simply Merino Crop tops underneath a long-sleeve or sweater before I put on my jacket! ROMPER I am a long-time romper fan!
