2 THE SUMTER ITEM
SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2015
Dear Readers, Now in its 15th year, the annual Readers Choice Awards still holds the title as our most popular and anticipated special section in The Sumter Item. Year after year the staff here spends many hours counting ballots so you, the readers of The Sumter Item, can choose your favorite business or person in each of the categories. In the ever-changing newspaper world, it’s always refreshing to know so many people still take stock in winning such a contest. It’s good for their business. I feel confident it helps drive new customers as well as improve morale among their own employees. Think about how many businesses in town have Sumter Item “Readers’ Choice” plaques on their walls. If they have ever won this contest whether it be this year or anytime in the past, you will most probably see their plaque(s) proudly displayed in their place of business. We certainly appreciate the recognition at The Sumter Item as well! Lucky for us, Sumter is indeed a growing community, not only in population numbers but by per capita income as well. That means more families with more disposable income are out
and about shopping and dining at your stores and restaurants. Many of these folks are new to the Sumter community which means you HAVE to get your message out there. The Sumter Item, whether it’s news, advertising, circulation, business or any other department here, is eager and ready to serve your every need. There are multiple ways we can help you drive traffic to your business through our many print and online choices we have available. All you need to do is call me or anyone else here at our offices. As the oldest family-owned business in the Sumter area, we understand that a strong business environment is critical to the success of the Sumter community. So, we are here to serve you for at least another 120 years! Jack Osteen is Editor and Publisher of The Sumter Item Newspaper. He can be reached at 803-774-1238 or Jack@ theitem.com.
