Bank of Clarendon celebrates 90 years
For most of us, The Great Depression was a period in our nation’s history depicted in black-and-white photographs. But in 1932, Taylor H. Stukes and Francis C. Reedy took the bold risk of starting a new business, the Clarendon Cash Depository, which opened as a financial safe haven for area residents. Under their watchful eye, the Clarendon Cash Depository was authorized in 1939 under a new charter “to do a general banking business,” and the name was changed to the Bank of Clarendon, with Francis C. Reedy as its president and cashier. As a community bank, Bank of Clarendon has never been run from a corporate office in a neighboring state. Instead, it is managed locally by local people. The success of the last 90 years didn’t happen by accident but by applying conservative banking principles with integrity, providing dependable service and serving our local communities. Bank of Clarendon continues to grow and flourish, now offering five full-service locations in Clarendon, Orangeburg and Sumter counties. Being at Tanners in Manning allows me to send people to work in the morning, home in the evening and to the lake on the weekend with smiles on their faces. Our feeds are made with formulations that have been created with the knowledge and experience gained from customers and Mr. Hynes, the previous owner. Our feeds are registered, regulated and monitored by S.C. Department of Agriculture. Appropriate amounts of value-adding ingredients are supplemented with vitamins and mineral for a balanced diet that meets individual needs. Custom-blended feeds are made to the same standard as our registered feeds. We use grain purchased from local farmers. Buying local allows us to use fresh products and support our local farming communities. None of our feeds contain medications or steroids. For our customers who want organic, processed or medicated feeds, we offer a variety of quality feeds from other mills. When it comes to pests, we carry a number of insect and rodent control measures as well as snake repellents.
