Simpson Hardware and Sports is a family-owned local hardware and sporting goods chain celebrating 75 years of service, made possible by loyal customers and associates. Founded in 1951 by Carl Simpson Jr. in Camden, the business later moved to West Liberty Street in Sumter, where it became South Carolina’s first ACE Hardware store. Today, Simpson’s has grown to five locations and 185 associates serving Sumter, Manning and Lake City.
A second store opened on Guignard Drive in 1964 under Carl Simpson III and became known for sporting goods and lawn and garden. We are particularly proud of our achievements in the community, as we continue to serve Sumter in ways that go beyond just childcare. Shoot for the Moon Academy No. 9's summer camp was named the Best Summer Camp in Sumter! In addition to being recognized as Best New Business, our sister center, Kids Academy, earned the title of Best Afterschool Care. These awards reflect our dedication to providing top-tier services that benefit
children and families year-round.
One of the highlights of our program is our commitment to homework help and field trips. We understand the importance of academic support, so we offer dedicated homework help to ensure each child stays on track. Additionally, our field trips give children the chance to explore the community, learning outside the classroom in real-world environments.
Behind the success of Shoot for the Moon Academy is Sherrie Ross-Mayes, our passionate owner who was honored as Best Boss. With over 150 dedicated employees, Sherrie leads a team that cares for more than 1,000 children across South Carolina. Her leadership, commitment to excellence and vision for providing the best possible care have been key to our success.
