Welcome to the

Striped Bass Festival

Now in its 36th year, the Clarendon County Striped Bass Festival presented by McDonald’s of Manning, is as “big as it gets” to the folks who live here.

It’s a celebration of spring, a tribute to the beauty of our county and a special salute to the Striped Bass, the species of fish that put the Santee Cooper lakes on the world’s fishing map.

When you consider that Clarendon County borders Lake Marion – the upper end of the Santee Cooper lakes – that may be reason enough to celebrate with a festival each spring.

But we also believe our festival is a fitting, fun way to bring together the citizens of our county and the many wonderful visitors who make it a point to attend each year.

When the words “nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina” were penned the author surely had Clarendon County in April in mind. Mother Nature puts on a show that is hard to beat so we try to complement the natural beauty of our area with dances, entertainment, arts and crafts and a host of other activities. We try to plan something for everyone, and judging by the size of the crowds, we’re doing something right.

The Black N Myld Band feat. Harry (Flash Black ) Blanding based out of Atlanta, Ga. has drawn from various streams of music influences such as Motown, Funk, R&B, Pop, Jazz, Rock, as well as, Top 40. The group is known as a well-rounded Band for its many selections that remind you of that day, be it today or yester year. BNM has played many venues, in addition to corporate events and private parties all over the Southeastern United States, and Abroad.

The band was founded by Harry Blanding aka (Flash) in 2009. Flash has shared the stage with many famous acts and corporate bands performing at such Venues as: The Sheraton Hotel Wai Kiki, Hawaii. The 1995 Pro Bowl Aloha Towers, Hawaii, Hard Rock CafĂŠ Bangkok, Thailand, Wal-Mart Benefit Concerts, Riverdale, Towne Centre, Riverdale, Ga. Just to name a few. (Flash) is also a Disabled Veteran that donates his Entertainment services to as many Charitable/Non Profit Organizations, as possible, constantly giving back to his and surrounding communities.

The BNM Band brings you to your feet from start to finish, with the Lead Front Man Harry Blanding (aka) Flash Black catering to his audience at all time, there is never a dull moment with several laughs, impromptu audience participation and contest, for all involvement, throughout the show.

BNM brings A High Energy show for any and all of your events, be it; Birthday Parties, Corporate Events, Fraternity/Sorority Parties, and Weddings. Indoor/Outdoor.

Welcome to the

Puddin Swamp Festival

The Puddin Swamp Festival, presented by The Citizens Bank, is a collection of events showing off the best small town America has to offer. Now in its eighth year, no one should miss the opportunity to join in to do the signature Puddin Swamp Stomp. And this year’s event will add a certified 5K race that promoters have said could potentially be a record-setting course due to its flat 3.1-mile course.

The East Clarendon County festival features beauty queens, fine food, arts and crafts, music, amusement rides and, yes, we’re not kidding, camel rides. There’s obviously something for everyone.

Musical group The Plaids will perform 7 p.m.

Thursday, April 16, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Gym. Tickets are $20. And, on Friday, Threshold Band will perform on the event’s main stage in the Town Square for free.

Those are mere preludes to the Saturday’s big day. Saturday’s events kick off with the Puddin Swamp 5K run at 9 a.m. followed by music by the Scape Ore Bluegrass Company from 10 to 11:45 a.m. with a short break in the middle to hand out the 5K awards and introduce the beauty pageant winners.

There will also be presentations by Kelly’s Fine Arts at noon, a performance by Carolina Dance Academy at 1 p.m., a Kritter Contest at 2 p.m. and a $500 prize Cornhole Tournament at 3 p.m.

A DJ will play music from 5:30 t0 9:30 p.m. at the main stage as the crowd anxiously awaits the explosion of the 9:30 p.m. Fireworks Extravaganza.

Organizers encourage visitors to make use of a free Trolley Shuttle from the East Clarendon Medical Center parking lot at 944 Smith Street in Turbeville.
