Billy Joel at Coliseum Normand to bring for New Year’s Eve laughs to Huntington Legendary musician Billy Joel will perform at NYCB Live, Home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Dec. 31 at 9:30 p.m., marking the 25th anniversary of the last time he played the venue on New Year’s Eve. “We are thrilled to welcome Billy back home for what will be another momentous night in his four-decadelong history playing the Coliseum,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global, the operator of the historic venue. “This performance will be a celebration for Long Islanders, truly making New Year’s Eve at NYCB Live the ultimate destination to ring in 2019.” Having sold 150 million records over the past quarter century, Joel ranks as one of most popular recording artists and respected entertainers in history. The singer, songwriter and composer is the sixth best-selling recording artist of all time, the third best-selling solo artist, and is one of the highest grossing touring artists in the world. In 2014, he received both The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, which honors living musical artists’ lifetime achievement in promoting the genre of song as a
vehicle of cultural understanding, entertaining and informing audiences, and inspiring new generations. Joel is also the recipient of the once-in-a-century ASCAP Centennial Award, which is presented to American music icons in recognition of their incomparable accomplishments in their respective music genres and beyond. So on his New Year’s Eve, enjoy the many classic Billy Joel hits, from “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” and “My Life,” to “Just the Way You Are” and his rousing signature song, “Piano Man.” Buy tickets while they last by going to nycblive.com.

Ring in New Year family style Mill Neck Manor The Long Island Children’s Museum will be aglow as 2018 comes to a close and it celebrates its annual “noon” year’s eve party, Countdown to 12! The annual, familyfriendly event allows visitors to take part in all the traditional elements of the holiday, including confetti and counting down to the new year, on a schedule designed for children… and exhausted parents. The festivities and activities start at 12 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 and feature themed crafts, face painting, a DJ-led dance party and two ball drops. “Neon ‘19” is the theme of the 2018 yearending celebration at the museum,” says LICM Director of Education & Visitor Experience Aimee Terzulli. “We wanted a theme that not only captured the party atmosphere associated with New Year’s celebrations, but also that ‘highlighted’ an event that has become a Long Island holiday tra-
dition for families. Neon represents the brightness and excitement of the event, while serving as a bit of nostalgia for many of the parents in attendance.” The Long Island Children’s Museum created Countdown to 12! in 2005 to provide families with the opportunity to celebrate this special occasion together. Family-focused New Year’s celebrations were lacking in the area, but families looking to celebrate certainly were not. Countdown to 12!
has become an immensely popular visitation day on the museum’s calendar. During this year’s celebration, the museum will cross the 25,000 mark in visitor attendance for the day. The lucky visitor will receive a family membership to mark the museum milestone. Families have the opportunity to take part in all the traditional elements associated with year-end revelry, with the simple substitution of “mid-day” instead of “midnight.” The celebration starts — and
concludes — with Times Square-style ball drops at 12 and 4 p.m. In between those iconic moments, families will be able to create neon highlight hats, shimmer-and-shake noisemakers, and craftcommemorative superstar necklaces, as well as decorate a tasty treat to bring sweetness into the new year. Visitors can also stop by the Face Painting Station to add some extra glitz to their celebratory look. DJ Mike from All Star Party will be on hand to help visitors dance into the new year. All Countdown to 12! activities are included with museum admission. The Long Island Children’s Museum, is located at 11 Davis Ave. in Garden City. For the safety of visitors, adults are not permitted in the museum without children, and museum visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
toasts holidays The enchanting Mill Neck Manor was dressed with holiday décor during the Christmas Magic event on Dec. 1 and 2. The festive, familyfriendly, two-day event took place inside of the historic Mill Neck Manor and featured photos with Santa, baked goods and hot cocoa from Mrs. Claus, holiday gift items, children’s arts and crafts, tours of the historic mansion and more. To celebrate local sponsors, Christmas Magic presented a Festival of Wreaths, where local businesses and community groups purchased and decorated a wreath that was auctioned at the event. Mill Neck Manor wishes to send a huge thank you to: Nassau County Camera Club for photography; Festival of Wreaths Participants:
Oyster Bay Yoga, Blush Boutique Locust Valley and Nicole Troncone, Pine Hollow Country Club, Appliance World, Oakcliff Sailing, Yolo Strong Foundation, The Life Enrichment Center of Oyster Bay, Dodd’s and Eder, Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club; Our Vendors: Gooseberry Grove Amusements, Sweet Treats- Heather Denatale, Daphne Fenelon Accessories and Little Lexi’s Barkery-Mindy Abbruzzese. All proceeds from the event benefitted the Mill Neck Family of Organizations’ vision of creating a world in which Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals are included, empowered, celebrated and embraced as equals through quality educational, employment, audiological and spiritual programs and services.

‘Farm-tastic’ holiday at Queens museum The Queens County Farm Museum will be hosting a free holiday open house on Dec. 26 through 28 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The open house will feature kids crafts, a historic house tour of the 17thcentury Adriance Farmhouse, hot cocoa, mulled cider and snacks. If you’re bundled up, you can take a stroll on the farm’s grounds and meet the steers Jethro and Dexter and the alpacas Giorgio and Rocky. You can also take a peek at the dormant growing fields to imagine what goodies the spring planting season will bring. No advance registration is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. Simply stop
into the farm’s gift shop to sign-up when you arrive. “The Adriance Farmhouse began as a family homestead when it was built in 1772 so it’s particularly nice to welcome our community to visit us here during the holidays,” said Jennifer Walden Weprin, executive director of the Queens County Farm Museum. “The roaring fire in the original fireplace really sets the mood for a cozy day with friends and family down on the farm.” The Queens County Farm Museum is located at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park.
