Jose James to take the stage at Landmark Sunday nights at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater continue to push the boundaries of jazz as Jose James takes the Landmark on Main Street stage on Sunday, March 4 at 7 p.m. A deep and soulful young vocalist whose international proďŹ le has exploded in the last few years, James has transcended his reputation as a jazz singer to embrace inuences including R&B, Moroccan Gnawa music, hip-hop and gospel. On the heels of 2015’s beguiling Billie Holiday centennial tribute, Yesterday I Had the Blues, and the electro-pop of this year’s Love in a Time of Madness, James returns with a celebration of the music of iconic soul singer and composer Bill Withers. James’ exibility and omnivorous musical taste is reected in his hugely diverse rĂŠsumĂŠ, which includes work with jazz great Chico Hamilton, as well as electronica hero Flying Lotus. In his review for The New York Times, writer Ben Ratli described James as “a romantic baritone with a deep-funk band, stretching out songs, evoking both the ’70s of Roberta Flack and Gil Scott-Heron and the ’90s and oughts of J Dilla.â€? In a program called Lean on Me, James oers his reverent-yet-expansive take on Withers’ classics including “Ain’t No Sunshine,â€? “Use Me,â€? and “Just the Two of Us,â€? backed by a stellar band. Vetted personally by Withers himself, the show is an exploration of the deep musical catalogue that touched millions

of hearts and united communities worldwide. Featuring Withers’ top ten hits, as well as his soul ballads and rare grooves, James brings both a deep musical appreciation and a contemporary approach to the music. Fittingly, James has assembled an all-star cast of musicians to play with him: Nate Smith on drums, Reuben Rodgers on bass, James Francies on keys and Brad Allen Williams on guitar. Curious George production at Adelphi Join the inquisitive, lovable little monkey Curious George, star of books, movies and the award-winning PBS television show, in this delightful new musical from Theatreworks USA. “Curious George: The Golden Meatball” will take place on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. on the Westermann Stage, Concert Hall in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center located at 1 South Ave. in Garden City. This production is recommended for children in grades pre-K through 3 and their families. All–you-can-eat Meatball Day comes just once a year. George has
waited all month for that day, a day almost bigger than his birthday. On Meatball Day, George helped his friend Chef Pisghetti cook some delicious meatballs and serve them to the hungry crowd. But this year, the crowd vanished. Something was keeping people away. Something pretty big. And that “something” was Phinneas T. Lightspeed and his speedy Meatballs O’Matic machine. In despair, Chef Pisghetti vows to cook no more. Determined to help his friend, George goes on a mission to enter the chef’s meatballs in the world-famous Golden Meatball Contest… in Rome. With every swing and
flip, George takes the audience through a fun-filled adventure in which he learns more about Rome — and meatballs — and the “secret ingredient” to cooking. Tickets to this event are currently on sale for $20 with discounts available to seniors, students and alumni. Information is available online at pac. adelphi.edu or at the Lucia and Steven N. Fischer Box Office at 516-877-4000 or boxoffice@adelphi.edu. Regular box office hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. The box office is also open two hours before most scheduled performances.

Buckcherry to play at Paramount on March 9 The Los Angeles-based hard rock act Buckcherry formed in mid-1995, after singer Joshua Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson were introduced through their tattoo artist. After cutting several demos, the duo recruited bassist Jonathan “J.B.” Brightman and drummer Devon Glenn and began
performing live, quickly earning a local following for their swaggering, grungeflavored music. Following the subsequent addition of second guitarist Yogi Lonich, Buckcherry signed with DreamWorks Records and issued their self-titled, debut LP in 1999. Singles such as “Check Your Head” and
“For the Movies” became modern rock hits, allowing Buckcherry to quickly raise their profile. The band will now be heading to Long Island, performing with special guest Revel at The Paramount on Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m. The Paramount is located at 370 New York Ave. in Huntington.
