The Green Vale School, founded in 1923, is one of the nation’s premier elementary schools and is Long Island’s largest independent elementary school. Families from 35 school districts, as well as New York City, are drawn to the School by the outstanding faculty, excellent facilities and small classes in Prenursery through eighth grade. Green Vale’s mission is to provide a rigorous liberal arts education, in a safe and secure environment, with an emphasis on character development. Nestled on the north shore of Long Island, and yet just a short drive from Manhattan, Green Vale’s 40 acre campus is home to a stellar learning environment. Green Vale’s state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional resources include five dedicated (indoor and outdoor) science labs; three art studios with separate band and choral rooms; two libraries and an interactive media center; a fully equipped theater and outdoor amphitheater, seven playing fields and a premier 30,000 sq. ft. athletic complex which includes two gymnasiums and a health & wellness center. All classrooms are wireless and equipped with SMART Boards. Green Vale’s 10,000 sq. ft. dedicated Early Childhood Center, built in 2000, was designed exclusively for 2 to 5 year olds and features heated floors, low windows, an outdoor playground and group spaces for collaborative learning. The Green Vale school holds our students’ safety in the utmost importance with campus wide surveillance, vehicle I.D. tags, five security guards on premises, automated security gates, and the guard shed at Green Vale’s main entrance.

ONCE UPON A TIME NURSERY SCHOOL

Once Upon a Time Nursery School is housed in the spacious facilities of Church of Our Saviour Lutheran in Manhasset. Co-owners and educators, Sheila Bluni, Fran DeCarolis, Jennifer Kerrane, Joyce McCann, and Maryann Munoz, established this school in 2009. Together they have over sixty years of teaching and nursery school experience. Once Upon a Time prides itself on its small class sizes and low child/teacher ratios, which allow young learners the freedom and opportunities to explore, grow, and learn. It is a traditional nursery school focusing on socialization, creativity, and learning through play. There are a wide variety of multi-sensory, multi-disciplinary, technological, and basic activities. Through these activities, children’s unique learning styles and abilities can be accommodated. Opportunities for play and learning are provided both inside the classroom and outside in the large newly renovated playground. The goal of Once Upon a Time Nursery school is to strengthen a child’s imagination, creativity, and intellectual abilities. Our certified teachers play a vital role in this process by providing a rich environment of relevant experiences and facilitating the children so they can learn to live with others, resolve conflicts, and gain a sense of competence.

For 33 years The American Theater Dance Workshop has provided strong ballet training, the basis of all dance, as well as training in the many styles of Broadway Musical Theater. The conveniently located school offers programs year round. The studios are large, modern, and fully mirrored with sprung floors specifically designed for dance. Students are trained in the disciplines of ballet, theater dance, tap, and musical theater. Registration is available for all levels, beginner to professional, and for children ages 3 through adults. There is live musical accompaniment for most classes. A distinguished ballet department is the backbone of any school. Students must have strong backgrounds in classical ballet to succeed in any form of dance. American Theater Dance Workshop’s illustrious, international faculty is comprised of professional dancers from some of the greatest companies in the world, artistic directors and choreographers. They provide training with strong technique and artistry. Ballet luminaries such as Katherine Healy, Leslie Browne, and Ali Pourfarrokh teach morning adult intermediate ballet classes. Guest professionals teach Ballet Repertory and Musical Theater Dance Companies, setting original choreography and new works. Michelle and Jerome Vivona, the school’s new owners, are excited to bring their experiences from careers in ballet companies and Broadway to the next generation of dancers on Long Island. Michelle appeared on Broadway in Sweet Charity, Anything Goes, Gypsy, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Jerome’s Broadway shows include How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Guys and Dolls, Dream, Seussical, Kiss Me Kate, and Curtains. Jerome and Michelle met in Paris, France performing in West Side Story at the Chatelet Theatre. Jerome was also a member of the LA company of the Broadway show Jerome Robbins' Broadway.
