NHP-GCP’s new administrative staff

New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District is pleased to announce that Areyana Schmitt and Meaghann Tedesco joined the district, effective July 1.

Schmitt, a resident of Plainview, has been appointed as the principal of Garden City Park School. Most recently, she served as an assistant principal for P.S. 143Q The Louis Armstrong School in Queens. There, she supervised K-2 programming and 50 teachers in Dual Language, Transitional Bilingual, ICT, ENL and Special Education classes. She also constructed an Academic Intervention Services Team and provided professional development focused on error analysis, early literacy skills, cross linguistic transfer, the science of reading, universal screeners, progress monitoring and phonemic awareness. Prior to her time at P.S. 143Q, Schmitt was a universal literacy coach, a classroom teacher at the elementary level. She is trained in The Five Pillars of Literacy; Advanced Literacies: Explicit Instruction, Tier 2 Vocabulary Instruction; Gifted and Talented Test Administration; and Academic Language in Diverse Classrooms, among other areas.
