GCP School hosts Read Aloud Week

Garden City Park School hosted its annual Read Aloud Week in early March. Although reading is celebrated every day, the week-long event specifcally focused on read aloud activities and the enjoyment of stories when read aloud by others.

Classrooms of all grade levels were treated to special guest readers, including Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Morrison-Raptis, Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and New Hyde Park Memorial High School Principal Dr. Richard Faccio.

New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District announced that Denise Connolly, the assistant principal of Garden City Park School and New Hyde Park Road School, has been promoted to principal of New Hyde Park Road School, efective July 1. Connolly has served as assistant principal of both buildings since 2020. She started her career in the district in 2005 as an ENL and special education teacher.

Connolly earned her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education/special education from St. Joseph’s College, her Master of Science in education with a focus on teaching English to speakers of other languages in K-12 from Queens College, her Master of Science in Education in elementary reading and literacy K-6 from Walden University and her advanced certifcate in educational leadership from LIU Post.
