Established in 1949 as a nonprofit organization, the Community Chest of Port Washington (CCPW) embarked on a mission to improve our community for all residents by raising money and then granting those funds to Port charities.

Since then, for almost 75 years, the Community Chest has continued to serve the Port community, raising money to support Port charities that make a real difference in our community. Last year, with their single donations to the Chest, CCPW donors funded 26 local charities helping over 7,000 Port Washington residents.

Today your contributions to the Chest support; COVID 19 relief programs, helping Port teens get critical mental health counseling, serving hot meals to senior citizens, providing quality childcare for kids, helping needy students excel in school, and supporting programs that feed the hungry and care for the environment.

Iconic Events that Unite Our Community

Annual CCPW events bring us together and are part of the fabric of the Port Washington Community. In November of 2021, the Community Chest’s Thanksgiving Day Run made its post-COVID return welcoming over 3,000 runners.

On Friday evening, June 3rd, the Community Chest will host its prestigious Citizen of the Year (COY) event, awarded to those who have demonstrated a lifetime of outstanding volunteer service and contributions to Port Washington. This year’s awardee, Curt Trinko, will be honored as the 48th recipient. For more information, please visit https://bit.ly/3LlYnZ5 .

On Monday, June 20th, the Community Chest will hold its Annual Golf Outing at the prestigious Village Club of Sands Point. For more information about attending or sponsoring the Outing, please visit https://bit.ly/3pFv0bf .

Port Residents Have a Passion for Giving

Chest donors are devoted to Port Washington and all the members of our community. They recognize how important it is to fund the nonprofits whose programs literally change people’s lives each day and help this community remain a truly special place.

Some passionate Chest donors even hold their own events to raise money for the Community Chest. Alpers True Value Hardware has donated the proceeds from its annual Karmacue event, Smusht Ice Cream Sandwiches and Ugly Biscuits have donated a portion of their profits to us, and an enterprising Schreiber HS student, Violet Lichtenstein, sold her “Candi Sushi” to raise money for the Chest.

Your friends and neighbors are the Community Chest!

All of our Board members and volunteers are Port residents who have real insights into the needs of our community and its residents, and their collective knowledge and passion for this community guide every aspect of our work. Many work tirelessly to execute Chest events. Others spend weeks screening grant applications to ensure that we invest your donations in organizations that truly make a difference in the lives of all Port residents. As faithful community stewards, most of them contribute so much more by sharing their time and talent with our schools, service organizations, and places of worship.
