Facial Harmony

The importance of eyebrows in framing the eyes and allowing for

27

Look Beautiful All The Time!

emotional expression. “THE GOAL IS FOR THE EYEBROWS TO ENHANCE THE EYES AND FACE NATURALLY AND CREATE A HARMONIOUS BALANCE”

We always hear the expression “the eyes are the windows of the soul.” This is true, but they are complemented by the eyebrows, which frame the eyes and the face, giving us different unique characteristics, personality and expressions. Over the years of experience in the beauty business I learned about the importance of the eyebrows. As an optometrist I learned how to do eyeliners, and know the eye’s shape and expressions are essential for the total look. This is one of the many reasons I got involved in the cosmetic industry. With time and artistic ability I specialized in micropigmentation, or permanent cosmetics. I have been doing this since 1993. The inquiries for eyebrows increased so much in my practice that it compelled me to research and understand the importance of the eyebrows. It is very difficult to design and shape the eyebrows properly. Although we know the basics, we should give them to a professional expert on eyebrows to sculpt them to a perfect shape suitable to your features. The bone structure, features, and facial shape (round, oval, pear, heart, or square) have to be considered in the design of the eyebrows. The goal is for the eyebrows to enhance the eyes and face naturally and create harmonious balance. If you decide to permanently modify or change your eyebrows, check the credentials and look at the portfolio for the person you choose. A good professional will give you the best design to enhance your face, consider your bone structure, natural features, skin tone, previous cosmetic procedures, and personality. Cutler. Maxfield Parrish: The works embody the artist’s long career and extraordinary accomplishments, displaying Parrish’s lush coloristic effect with amazing detail. The exhibition includes original artworks as well as a large collection of vintage prints. Parrish’s universally popular and instantly recognizable images were produced between the late 1890s through the mid 1960s; they were seen on magazine covers, greeting cards, art prints, calendars, novels, advertisements and packaging. Clear and bold, with uncomplicated subjects, Maxfield Parrish’s art prints papered the walls of American homes for decades. CONTEMPORARY GALLERY November 21, 2015-February 28, 2016 Christopher Hart Chambers Painted sculptural works by award-winning New York artist Christopher Hart Chambers will be on view in a solo exhibition. These sculptures, incorporating urethanebased automotive paints, are rooted in what Chambers calls post-war “consumerist wants and dreams,” inspired by sports cars, hot rods, speed boats and even interstellar spacecraft. His design format remarks on graphic marketing systems, logos and emblems of corporate America. Works by Chambers have been seen in numerous group and solo exhibitions and are included in many public and private collections. EVENTS FILM Nov. 21, 2015-Feb. 28, 2016 Screenings: Tuesday-Saturday:* 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.; Sunday:* 11 a.m. & 12 p.m. *with exceptions for special programs Parrish Blue: American Art History In this rare 1967 film, which includes many of Maxfield Parrish’s original canvases, the artist’s son, Maxfield Parrish, Jr., and friend and fellow artist Norman Rockwell share their understanding of Parrish who dominated the popular arts in early 20th-century America. We glimpse much of the artist’s work from magazine covers to advertisements, from huge murals to decorative prints, from book illustrations to note cards. Connie Lagan Dr. Wayne Dyer spent decades teaching and inspiring three generations to pursue fulfilling lives. His passing in 2015 left a void in the world of self-motivation; however, as a prolific writer, he has left us his wisdom in the form of dozens of motivational books. One such book, Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling, presents Dr. Dyer’s “12-Step Program to Simplicity.” Using this program as a jumping off point, this seminar encourages us to streamline our lifestyle. Less can actually translate to more once stress is neutralized by incorporating easy-todo practices into our daily lives. This seminar helps us hear the ultimate call to inspiration, that is “to fill with enlivening or exalting emotion” as defined in The Free Dictionary. This coming alive motivates us to greatness. This seminar is divided into three segments: lecture, meditation, and questionand-answer period. The topics covered include decluttering, freeing up time, meditating, communing with nature, tuning out critics, playing, slowing down, eliminating debt, discarding materialism and nurturing your spirit. Location: Community Room 2 p.m- WONDERFUL WORLDS with Dr. Bill Thierfelder: FLYING HIGH THE MAKING OF NATURE FILMS NATURAL HISTORY SERIES - Dr. Thierfelder is a docent at the American Museum of Natural History. One of the most frequently asked questions by audiences during a nature film is: How did they get that shot? This program focuses on the making of a documentary about birds. David Tennant narrates an exhilarating adventure, filmed over four years with help from camera-carrying birds, drones, paragliders and remote-control microflight planes. This wondrous aerial spectacle will make your spirits soar! To fly like a bird, the film crew called Earthflight not only captured remarkable images of wild flocks but also relied on some extraordinary relationships between people and birds. For some of the unique flying shots, members of the team became part of the flock. The birds followed wherever they went - even in

a microlight over Edinburgh and London. In Africa, paragliders floated alongside wild vultures, while a model vulture carried a camera inside the flock. In South America, wild-living macaws, that were rescued as babies, still come back to visit their ‘foster mother’ as he travels along a jungle river. This wondrous aerial spectacle will make your spirits soar! Location: Community Room 2 p.m. - MUSEUM HIGHLIGHTS with Ines Powell: MARY CASSATT, BERTHE MORISOT AND EVA GONZALES Mary Cassatt (1844-1926), Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) and Eva Gonzalès (18491883) are three contemporary impressionist female artists who worked in Paris. Mary Cassatt was American, but she spent most her adult life in France. In Paris, Cassatt met Edgar Degas who invited her to join a group of avant-garde artists who became known as the Impressionists. Cassatt was the only American officially associated with the group. Berthe Marisot started a very conventional artistic career by exhibiting her painting at six subsequent Salons in Paris. Eventually, she also became a member of the Impressionists and began exhibiting her paintings with them. Marisot was a close friend of Édouard Manet, a great admirer and supporter of her art. Marisot married Manet’s brother Eugene. Eva Gonzalès was Manet’s formal student and modeled

for him on several occasions. Like Marisot, Gonzalès began her career exhibiting at the Parisian Saloon. Like the Impressionists, Gonzalès often selected themes from modern life as the subject of her paintings. Her artistic career was cut short when she died at childbirth at the age of thirty-four. Forty-two kindergarten students in Christine Bray’s and Barbara Dermody’s classes at Guggenheim Elementary School in Port Washington welcomed parents, grandparents and guardians in to help students design winter cards for patients at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Flower Hill. Each card featured a wintery theme with a student-authored poem inside to warm the hearts of the recipients. The cards were donated to the hospital, and St. Francis officials are distributing them to patients.
