Keith Miller and crew harvest edible seaweed in Wheeler Bay, Saint George. Keith has lobstered in these waters for decades and this is his first year growing kelp. Keith began his journey into aquaculture as part of a cohort of the Island Institute’s Aquaculture Business Development program where fishermen and others learn how to get started in shellfish and edible seaweed farming. Growing kelp requires seeding in the Fall and then harvesting in the Spring and balances the seasonal nature of lobstering.
