How I Feel Confident As A Cosmetic Nurse

We chatted to TAYLAH FERGUSON, RN, about her partnership with Juv’ae and learnings from this year’s Cosmetic Collective.

The decision to become a cosmetic nurse or to open your own clinic in the industry can be an overwhelming one. Thankfully, there are industry bodies and companies that can help along the way. Juv’ae have created a supportive network for cosmetic nurses with decades of experience navigating this field.

We recently caught up with Taylah Ferguson, cosmetic nurse and owner of Glow Aesthetics in Gippsland to find out more about why she decided to join Juv’ae, and why their conference, The Cosmetic Collective, has become a must-attend event for cosmetic nurses.

How long have you been injecting and what made you choose to be a cosmetic nurse?

I’ve been injecting for just over 18 months now and am so glad I made the decision to become a cosmetic nurse. Prior to becoming a cosmetic nurse, I was working as a Registered Nurse in the community and although I did love my job I’d always had an interest in both health and beauty and wanted to combine my two passions. I’d had an anti-wrinkle treatment done myself and loved the results and the confidence it gave me so I decided to become a cosmetic nurse and do the same for others.

How do you maintain the highest level of patient safety?

It’s so important as a cosmetic nurse that I follow all of the health and safety legislations just as I would when working as a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting. People often forget that cosmetic injectables is not a beauty service, but it is a medical procedure.

I know I am getting the most up to date training so I can continue providing my patients with the best outcomes.

Along with following legislation, it is also important to continue attending workshops, conferences and webinars to stay up to date with the latest changes in our industry. I try to attend some sort of training every six weeks to ensure I am constantly learning to provide the highest level of safety to my patients.

Why did you choose to partner with Juv’ae?

I wanted to work with a company that not only provided all of the training but also provided a Telehealth team, medications and consumables, support, and ongoing training. I found a lot of the courses available were simply ‘just a course’, whereas Juv’ae are a one-stop-shop for everything I could possibly need. I had also heard good things from other nurses about Juv’ae.

How does Juv’ae help you feel confident as a practitioner and business owner?

Working with Juv’ae allows me to work knowing I am doing everything ‘right’ or ‘by the book’. I know I am getting the most up to date training so I can continue providing my patients with the best outcomes. I know that if there is a change in legislation they will be all over it and make me aware of any changes I need to make in my business, and I know if I require assistance, they are just a quick phone call away. Being a practitioner and business owner can be hard but knowing I have Juv’ae’s support makes me feel so much more confident.

What was the highlight of the Juv’ae Cosmetic Collective Conference?

This year’s Cosmetic Collective was held on Hamilton Island

The biggest highlight for me was getting to see all of the nurses and doctors in person that I see so much of through a screen. Getting to engage with other practitioners and hear about their success stories and struggles in the industry was so inspiring. I also really enjoyed all of the live injecting on the main stage. Listening to someone talk about a topic is one thing but actually seeing it for yourself on a real person is so much better!
