I hope 2018 has been a success for all of you and that you enjoy a richly deserved festive period.

We had a chat with Belong Mobile’s National Partner Manager Jon Dreverman about his role and how his company’s products are benefitting epay retailers.

How long have you been in the role and what does it involve?

I've been with Belong for 12 months now but have worked in the telecommunications industry for over 12 years having started in retail stores through university. Prior to this role I was at Boost Mobile for eight years where I managed the distribution channel and worked closely with the retail teams at Optus and Telstra. Belong is a relatively new player in the mobile market having only launched its mobile products in October 2018 (we have been in market since 2013 with fixed broadband products).

My role is super exciting as I work with existing retail partners to drive growth through a supportive in-store executional and promotional roadmap whilst developing new channel opportunities and strategies.

Why is Belong a great company to work for?

Belong is an amazing company to work for as I love delivering growth in a competitive market with innovative products whilst working with passionate people who have a customer-centric approach to everything they do.

How would you describe Belong's relationship with epay and what is the key benefit for Belong having epay as a partner?

It’s vital to our success in unlocking the independent retailers and the petrol and convenience channel. By partnering with companies like epay, retailers are able to range our starter packs with no upfront payment. Similar to gift cards, Belong starter packs have no value until enabled at point of purchase through an epay terminal or integrated POS system. This mitigates any theft risk and is great for cash flow with the remittance managed as part of the retailer’s agreement with epay.

What are the keys to being a successful telco retailer for Belong?

It’s quite simple really. Ensure you are well stocked, staff are educated on the Belong inclusions and transaction process and marketing material is in a prominent position in-store.

VODAFONE ACCEPTS A ALIPAY Vodafone and Alipay have announced a partnership which sees 110 of the telco’s stores across Australia accepting the number one payment method in China through epay terminals.

lipay has continued to make its mark on the Australian alternative payment landscape after Vodafone announced it is now offering the service to its customers.

The agreement allows Vodafone to offer Chinese tourists their preferred QR code payment method in-store and opens a new marketing channel to reach Chinese nationals before, during and after their visits to Australia.

"Alipay helps us continue to differentiate Vodafone as the number one choice for Chinese visitors to Australia,” – Vodafone’s Chief Commercial Officer Ben McIntosh Ben McIntosh added that creating simple and easy experiences for customers is in Vodafone’s DNA. “We offer international calls to more destinations than any other competitor in the market,” he said.

“Using our technology, Vodafone will now be able to communicate with a customer as soon as they land at an Australian airport to offer them a discount on a local SIM card or other services.

Chinese consumers are tech-savvy and want to find the best deal, so time and time again we see these types of offers are incredibly well received,” Mr Lawson said.

"With almost 1.4 million Chinese visitors arriving in Australia each year, it’s simply too large an audience to ignore and forward-thinking businesses like Vodafone are increasingly giving themselves a competitive advantage by letting visitors pay in their preferred way,” – Alipay’s Country Manager George Lawson

Vodafone is the first major telecommunications company in Australia to sign an agreement with Alipay and following a successful testing period, the technology has now been switched on nationwide. This includes Vodafone stores in each of its international airport locations where it is targeting Chinese visitors who want to access local mobile services shortly after touching down.

Alipay has over 700 million active users in China and in Australia more than 10,000 merchants accept Alipay payments.

Vodafone will utilise Alipay’s unique in-app marketing functionality to promote its pre-paid sim cards to Chinese nationals on holiday or travelling for business.

Vodafone prepaid products include a generous amount of international calls across up to 90 countries.

The first of these promotions, which is live now, involves Vodafone offering Alipay users 50 per cent off $50 prepaid starter packs via a digital coupon and this has already been redeemed over 5000 times.

This announcement comes shortly after Golden Week, a semi-annual sevenday national holiday (1-7 October) during which many Chinese people schedule their vacations. Alipay data revealed Australia was the 9th most popular travel destination based on payment volume, and the most popular outside of Asia, on 105 per cent year-on-year growth.

For cash voucher products like VPAY, we recommend you only accept cash as payment.

Never provide your five digit sales code to anyone or let them operate your terminal alone.

Do not give vouchers to the customer until the full valid payment has been received.

Never give out voucher numbers over the phone, even if the caller claims to be from epay; or a product vendor; or from a Government Department.

Key information for retailers

HOW TO DO A TERMINAL REFUND

If you print out the wrong voucher or an incorrect amount, follow these steps: Menu – Refund Transactions – Sale Type – Enter Serial Number or swipe card – Enter the epay Transaction Number – Refund receipt printed.

Remember, refunding a voucher TXN from the terminal does not deactivate the voucher until it has been checked and blocked by the network. This could take several weeks. If the voucher is found to be used, you will be recharged for the full TXN amount.

HOW TO REQUEST A REFUND

BY PHONE

Call epay customer service on 1300 301 408 within 72 hours of printing the voucher to log a refund or void request. Requests outside of this time-frame will not be accepted.

Retain copies of the voucher and/or POSA card plus POSA Activation receipt until these have been cleared for refund by the network.

Not all products can be refunded and will never be refunded if they have been used.

If you believe you have been defrauded, refer to the WHAT TO DO section.
