B

ill Clinton famously used “It’s the Economy, Stupid” as his internal mantra in his 1992 presidential campaign to remind his staff to focus on the economy – as it was the primary concern for voters during the recession at the time and he knew it would be the deciding factor in winning the election. This year’s federal election (yes the next one is not expected until early 2028) was a ‘cost of living’ debate and the constant commentary about fluctuating interest rate rises, will continue into 2026 and dominate discussions around both the kitchen table and the board room table. It was unfathomable just weeks ago that the sequence of forecast interest rate drops could be interrupted by a possible interest rate increase that has now been predicted by one of the major banks for early 2026. But in the appliance industry, it could be argued that it is the people that work within the retailers and suppliers that are the weather-vane for business and prosperity and are just as valuable as the consumer confidence that drives the customers online or into stores. People are the front line of brands in this industry – where a simple meeting between two people that have trust can turn the tables on decades of support for a competitor. We recently reported on a new appointment within the industry that resulted in a phone call from one retailer that created an initial order worth over $1 million – the power of relationships in this industry is incredible. This year has seen more movements from senior executives within the industry

than we have seen in many years – a merry-go-round of executive placements that would make any recruiter smile. While there have been a couple of high-profile retirements from retailers and suppliers, what is interesting is the number of people that have decided to remain in the industry and have chosen to take on new challenges within other companies. Some people have decided to move to competitors after over 20 years with the same company. Whether the personnel restructure has been local or global, almost every company has faced some sort of change over the last 12 months. Reorganisation can be disruptive, but it can also provide the bushfire that some companies require that then delivers green shoots and new growth for the future. The smart companies have identified the importance of talent and promoted these ambitious individuals – rather than allow them to seek their career advancement elsewhere. To the leaders of businesses within our industry who go to Christmas thinking that everything should be focused on the economy – and worry about the importance of Black Friday, Boxing Day, interest rates, tariffs and the rise of emerging companies in China, it is also important to think about the value of people – because you don’t know what you have until it is gone. Don’t be stupid.

TROY HINCHCO LEAVES RESIDENTIA TO JOIN BSR GROUP Residentia general manager, Troy Hinchco, has left the appliance importer and distributor and joined retailer BSR Group. This is the first role in retailing for the Brisbane-based industry veteran after over two decades on the supplier side of the industry and will see both the BSR Group retail and commercial teams reporting into Hinchco. BSR Group CEO Gavin Carter welcomed Hinchco’s appointment that commenced on 17 November. “Troy brings a wealth of experience across our industry, most recently having led one of our key supplier partners,” Carter said. “Prior to that, Troy held a range of senior leadership roles across other suppliers, overseeing both retail and commercial divisions. Having worked closely with some of the largest retailers in Australia, while maintaining strong connections with franchise networks such as BSR, Troy is exceptionally well-positioned to support our business as we continue to grow and evolve.”

In an excerpt from an internal email to staff obtained by Appliance Retailer, Residentia managing director, Matthew Evans, said he wished Hinchco well in the new role. “Troy has played a key role in shaping Residentia over the past two years. He joined with a clear focus on strengthening the business and setting us up for long term success, and he has done exactly that,” Evans said in the email. “He led with calm, steady guidance through a particularly challenging period and was a constant source of support for the team. We wish him every success in his new role at BSR Group and look forward to continuing to work with him from across the table.” Hinchco was promoted to the position of general manager – sales and marketing of the Australian arm of the Residentia business in November 2024 following the passing of co-founder Nathan Cary. Reflecting on his time with Residentia in an exclusive interview with Appliance Retailer, Hinchco referenced the loss of Cary. “I am very pleased with what the team at Residentia have achieved over the last two years, especially following the tragic loss of Nathan last October 2024. It really speaks to the quality of the people there,” Hinchco said. “Residentia is demonstrably Australia’s fastest growing independent appliance company and it has attracted some of the industry’s best talent – exciting times ahead for that business. “I am equally as excited to join the BSR Group. I genuinely think some of the country’s best retailers operate within the BSR network and I’m keen to do anything I can to support them in a super competitive retail environment,” he said. Hinchco joined Residentia in December 2023 after 13 years at Electrolux. Hinchco first worked with Matthew Evans almost 20 years ago at Think Appliances – at the time, Evans was sales and marketing director and Hinchco was national brand manager.

Smeg has a unique culture that was in place from the day I started with the business and I am very proud that I have been able to continue that culture,” he said. Smeg head of marketing and product, Nick Elgin, told guests that this was a unique collaboration that is unlike anything else available in the industry. “I’d like you to imagine this – the rumble of a Porsche on an open road, the precision and the elegance and the beauty of every curve and every detail crafted to perform perfectly. e&s held a special event recently at its store in Chadstone promoting two of its key Italian brands – Bertazzoni cooking appliances and Gessi tapware. The event was attended by special guests including the COO of Bertazzoni Nicola Bertazzoni who was visiting Australia for the first time since 2019. Also in attendance was the Bertazzoni regional manager APAC Enrico Pagelli and local managing director, Mark Tragear. At the event Bertazzoni launched its new ‘Specchio’ mirror finish in its Modern Series of built-in ovens available in gold, bronze and obsidian – first seen at EuroCucina in Milan last year. Complementing the range of Bertazonni products was a range of kitchen taps from Gessi featuring unique Italian design, represented by Oliveri national sales manager Ben Pugh and his team. To conclude the event, attended by a large number of guests from the architectural and design community, a panel was held to discuss the importance of Italian design in the home including Michael Drescher from DKO, Chris McCue from Studio McCue and Sarah Decorsey from Studio Tate. Representing the sixth generation of the Bertazzoni family that has been manufacturing since 1882, Nicola Bertazzoni provided guests with some insights into the brand. “We are manufacturers of high-end appliances for the kitchen. Our brand promise is to cook beautifully – that means style and design as well as performance – they should look good and perform well.

Appliance Retailer December 2025

“The Specchio mirror finish is designed to create a refined decorative element that elegantly frames the dark glass on our ovens. The mirror finish generates a sophisticated interplay of reflections thanks to an innovative process combining advanced nanotechnologies and super-mirror steel. “It is very important for Bertazzoni as a boutique brand to lead the market in design,” said Tragear. “The new range reinforces our world-first technology that brings together combi steam, full steam and pyrolytic in a 60cm cavity,” he said. Since taking over the representation of Gessi, Ben Pugh and the Oliveri team have started the rollout of new collections over the last six months. “Oliveri has had a long-standing relationship with e&s in the sink and tap category and now with Gessi, e&s is the perfect partner for our business. We are a leader in the sink and tap category and Gessi is a global powerhouse brand with beautiful design as well as an incredible focus on quality and customer service,” Pugh said. “We have a very strong relationship with Gessi and Oliveri in the tap and sink category,” said e&s category manager, Mark Meldrum. “We have a deep friendship with Mr Gessi and we have been to the factory in Italy several times. We have met the designers and seen the tapware being made, and understand the quality of the build of the product. “These are people – like us – that are passionate about the end result for the customer,” Meldrum said.

Appliance industry comes together to support

R

etailers and suppliers from the appliance industry recently attended a special dinner to support the 20th anniversary for Hands Across The Water – the largest Australian charity operating in Thailand. The charity was founded by Peter Baines OAM in 2005 to help children orphaned by the Boxing Day tsunami in Thailand. Over the last 20 years, $40 million has been raised to build orphanages in Thailand as well as provide education and support that has helped over 1000 children. The connection with the appliance industry was created in 2007 at the Narta conference in San Franscisco when the industry came together to raise $245,000 for the charity. The links to the industry remain with Narta chair Kay Spencer also performing the role of chair for Hands Across The Water and numerous appliance industry brands continuing to support the organisation through donations and fundraising from numerous bike rides in Thailand.

Several retailers supported the recent 20th anniversary dinner held at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney including Camera House, Retravision, Betta, JB Hi-Fi and David Jones. They were joined by suppliers including Panasonic, Electrolux, Fisher & Paykel, Smeg, Nespresso and SharkNinja to raise another $130,000 in just a few hours. Spencer delivered a passionate speech at the dinner. “It’s an honour to be here tonight as we celebrate 20 incredible years of Hands Across The Water,” she said. “What a journey it has been and what a community you have been. Without your generosity, belief and compassion – none of this would exist. Take a moment to think about the lives you’ve changed, the futures re-written and dreams fulfilled. “As chair, I see first-hand the challenges we face. We’re a charity that doesn’t fit neatly into any box. We practice the highest standards of governance to build trust and attract quality sponsors. We hold taxdeductible status in three countries, our message is compelling – yet we still struggle for recognition.

“The Australian government sees us as a Thai Charity. While in Thailand we are seen as Australian resulting in no recognition from either side. The question we ask after 20 years – what does it take to be recognised? “We have much to be proud of with your support. We’ve contributed over $40 million to the Thai community over the past 20 years – helping to educate, and change lives with 99% of that funding from within Australia, through our sponsors and community. Your generosity has built something lasting, and we’re truly grateful. We humbly ask for your ongoing support – it is essential to our long-term growth and together can continue to drive real change. “Peter this is your night of celebration – 20 years of success achieved through hard work, passion sacrifice and endurance. Working with Peter for 18 of those years has required, a certain amount of endurance. It’s been stimulating, rewarding and never predictable. Peter – you’ve inspired me, challenged me and frustrated me – sometimes you can do that all in the same day. But never once have I doubted your courage, tenacity and ethics. Or your commitment to creating better lives and opportunities for the children in our care. Tonight we celebrate, show gratitude and look to the future. To every donor every supporter who’s carried the Hands spirit forward – this is your night too.” AR

Industry pays tribute to retailer and supplier Bret Quinn The appliance industry is mourning the loss of retailer and supplier Bret Quinn following a battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Quinn was a proprietor of The Good Guys Campbelltown for 11 years and also worked at Smeg for seven years. The industry came together for a rare unified event on Friday 26 September in Sydney to raise over $100,000 for the MonSTar Foundation for MND research that does not receive any state or federal funding and relies on philanthropy and donations. For the first time in many years, both Narta and Harvey Norman retailers were side-by-side in attendance at the same event to support with multiple tables from Narta head office, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys and Bing Lee. In a note to Smeg staff, managing director Wayne Campbell shared the news of Quinn’s passing. “It is with deep sadness to advise on the passing late yesterday of our ex-work colleague and Smeg family member Bret Quinn,” Campbell said. “To all of us Bret known as Quinny will be remembered as a likable and instrumental member of our Retail Sales team who through his spirit fought a dreadful and prolonged disease to always remain positive and support his family and lovely wife Roz. Our thoughts are with Roz the children and family. Rest in peace Quinny.” Former Smeg Australia managing director and current Beko managing director, Jim Kalotheos, also shared his feelings. “This is very sad news – this one really hurt. I knew Bret for over 20 years. I will miss his positivity and zest for life, infectious smile and honesty. I loved calling on him and working with him and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family. May his memory be eternal,” Kalotheos said. Former Smeg Australia employee and current senior product manager at Fisher & Paykel, Tanya Mudge, also shared her memories of Bret Quinn. “It is a very sad day as he really was one of the best humans I could ever have been lucky enough to have crossed paths with in life. Whatever words are carved, whatever memories come to mind – they simply do not feel enough to honour Quinny. Graciously authentic with a passion to teach others with patience, professionalism (mostly) … an incredible wit and ability to disarm with humour even through his final moments. The world may be laughing less today, but the Quinny memories mean you can’t help but smile! Rest Free Quinny and I am thinking of the Quinn family throughout this difficult time,” Mudge said. 22

Worldwide Appliances CEO Michael Doyle also reflected on his time with Bret Quinn in the industry. “Brett was a genuinely good human — someone who made life more enjoyable for the people around him, who loved his family openly and unconditionally, and who moved through the world with a straightforward, joyful way of seeing things. He didn’t make life complicated; he just enjoyed it, and in doing so, helped others do the same. I enjoyed working with him, learning from him and being a friend,” Doyle said. Bing Lee general manager, Peter Harris also shared his memories of Bret Quinn. “I was deeply saddened today to hear about the passing of Bret. Bret was a genuinely great guy. I first met Bret at a Smeg event when he was at The Good Guys and I was a competitor at Appliances Online. There was no animosity or negativity, just a big smile and a strong handshake. From that day on whenever we bumped into each other it was always great to catch up. The strength and courage he showed at his Gala Dinner was a testament to the great guy he was and he even did that night with a big smile on his face. His passing is a loss for the industry and more importantly a terrible loss for his family,” Harris said. AR

Harold Xu Head of Marketing ANZ The category has shown growth year-on-year with consumers wanting varying options for different needs. Security continues to be a concern for consumers, and internally, Anker has seen promising results across its range, including wired and non-wired options, according to Harold Xu. “We’re noticing that more consumers are looking for home security solutions, and this is not limited to cameras. We’ve seen greater demand for full system set ups that include smart locks or doorbells. Technology wise, we’re focusing on Pan, Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) cameras, as well as biometric solutions which utilise AI to streamline processes. Examples of this include our S3 Max Video Smart Lock, which uses palmvein technology to grant access. Consumers are looking for systems which work together while also being easy to use and the eufy ecosystem is an answer to this,” he said. “We’ve launched several products, including the new POE range which allows for 24/7 security, as well as battery operated S4’s for pairing with solar panels for on-the-go recharging. Both feature our PTZ technology and while pairing with our local AI agent, allows for smart searches on the eufy app. It can spot suspicious behaviour, and report this back to the user through the app. We’ve also introduced the S3 Max Video Smart Lock, which uses palm-vein technology to allow access. Whether customers are upgrading, buying their first smart camera or looking for ongoing peace of mind, Arlo should stand out as a trusted, complete solution.” Retailer education materials and feature videos are available and include product walkthroughs, installation guides, and customer-facing content for the Essential, Pro and Ultra Series. Arlo is redefining home security from a “passive promise of safety” to an “active experience of control.” He said Arlo is combining advanced features with emotional assurance – “giving households the power to see, understand, and act instantly and intelligently. By focusing on reliability, quality, and trust, Arlo empowers retailers to offer not just smart devices, but ongoing peace of mind through Arlo Secure.” For retailers, that means offering a product that: “Leads the category in AI-driven, realtime protection, not just detection; appeals to a growing consumer mindset that values smart control over simple surveillance; and drives premium value and differentiation through advanced features and a platform experience that keeps users engaged and subscribed.” AR

UNIDEN

Brad Hales Head of Marketing – Oceania

“

The home security category has remained highly competitive, with an influx of low-cost imports and lesser-known online-only brands increasing clutter and consumer confusion, according to Uniden. “Despite this, established retail brands such as Uniden continue to perform strongly by offering trusted, high-quality solutions backed by ongoing innovation,” Brad Hales said. “Consumers still demonstrate a clear preference for recognised brands available in-store, where they can compare features, seek advice, and purchase with confidence.” Hales said two distinct buyer segments are emerging. “Entry-level shoppers continue to ‘test and learn’ with basic devices, while a rapidly growing group of tech-savvy consumers are prioritising advanced features that solve previous pain points. Australians increasingly expect smarter, simpler, and more cost-effective security solutions.” Key trends include a rising demand for wirefree and solar-powered systems that reduce installation complexity; strong interest in minimising or removing ongoing subscription fees, with consumers often unaware these costs exist until after purchase; a greater focus on AIenabled alerts; improved night vision, and flexible placement options for whole-of-home protection.

AQARA

Filipp Shved Senior Product Marketing Manager The home security category has experienced steady growth worldwide, driven by the rising consumer concerns about safety and security related to issues like package thefts, burglary, children/pets safety, or peace of mind. Increased control over one’s environment has also fuelled growth, according to Aqara. Recent research by Telsyte indicates that more than 31% of Australian households have added new security measures in the past year to better safeguard their homes. In this context, “security” goes beyond traditional CCTV systems, as it also includes smart locks, sensors, video doorbells and other connected devices, Filipp Shved said. “We are seeing a clear shift toward more interoperable, platform-agnostic ecosystems for home security with households increasingly mixing multiple devices and ecosystems. In Australia, the home security category has accelerated significantly over the past 12–18 months, driven by the broader growth of smart home adoption and rising household demand for multi-device security setups.” Telsyte data revealed that more than 7.6 million Australian households now own at least one smart device, and this number continues to grow annually which indicates a strong shift from oneoff products to full smart-home ecosystems. The increasing diversity of product types is giving consumers greater flexibility to define and build their own security automations based on their individual needs. “With the growing adoption of AI, consumers are increasingly looking for embedded AI capabilities in their security solutions. Aqara is similarly advancing its product ecosystem by integrating intelligent features across its devices,” Shved said. Also, the industryunifying Matter standard continues to expand and mature, with the latest Matter 1.5 specs rolled out in November, adding to the long-awaited support for security cameras. “Consumers no longer want walled gardens, and that’s the reason Aqara has focused on making sure our devices can integrate with almost all platforms such as Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, SmartThings, so users can build the smart home on their own terms.”

Its go-to-market strategy for late 2025 and 2026 will focus on strengthening the smart security ecosystem and continue investing in smart locks, cameras and sensors. “Our marketing will highlight these products through simple, real-life scenarios that help attract and educate consumers. We will also work closely with retail and installer partners to improve accessibility and ease of setup.” Training materials include a comprehensive external folder for each product containing detailed documentation on functions, key features, use cases, and full technical specifications with installation videos and PDF user manuals available for retail staff. He said today’s shoppers are more informed, more ecosystem-diverse, and far more privacyconscious than they were even a year ago. “At the end of the day, consumers don’t want to worry about their device working with a certain platform, and they don’t want to have to rely on the cloud for their devices to function. Retailers who succeed in this category are the ones who understand and address these demands of shoppers. There is an immense opportunity for those that define home security as an adaptable smart home system, rather than a collection of standalone devices. “Our goal is to give retailers an expansive portfolio that’s flexible, future-ready, and grounded in long-term reliability. We’re also broadening our range across more price tiers, catering to various market demands from entry level to high-end,” he said. AR www.applianceretailer.com.au

REOLINK

Nick Nigro Vice President – Sales Australasia The Home Security category has delivered another year of strong expansion, with industry estimates pointing to 15-25% growth across 2025. Adoption continues to accelerate as Australian consumers become more familiar with connected home technology, supported by broader awareness of security use-cases and improved product simplicity. In addition, the rise in reported property crime across major metropolitan areas has heightened customer interest in proactive solutions driving demand for easy-to-install home surveillance products that provide real-time visibility and peace of mind. According to Reolink the category is being reshaped by the rapid adoption of smarter, AI-driven technology. Consumers increasingly expect cameras that not only capture footage but intelligently analyse it. Features such as person, vehicle and pet detection, zone-based alerts and event filtering are now viewed as standard, helping customers cut down unnecessary notifications and save time by only receiving alerts that matter,” Nick Nigro said. A second major trend was in the growth of dual-lens and auto-tracking technologies. “These deliver wider coverage, seamless panoramic viewing and more accurate movement tracking, capabilities that were once exclusive to high-end professional systems but are now widely available at retail price points.” The Telsyte Australian Smart Home Market Study 2023 found that smart video cameras remained one of the strongest segments, with market value surpassing $330 million, driven by increased availability of AI features and more accessible pricing. And Reolink is well-positioned to respond to this growth, Nigro said. “We have a diverse product range, including indoor, outdoor, and solar powered cameras, which addresses the increasing consumer preference for flexible, smart surveillance solutions tailored to both urban and remote settings.” Multiple innovations launched in 2025, include the Altas Series, the first battery camera range to offer true pre-recording functionality, capturing critical moments before motion is detected. “This bridges the gap between traditional wired PoE systems and the convenience of wire-free installations that gives retailers a premium battery solution with genuine functional differentiation,” he said. Reolink has also expanded its dual-lens and 4K lineup, strengthening its position in the high-resolution and panoramic viewing segments where customer demand continues to grow. 30

“We will continue to focus on education, instore conversion support and demonstrating technological superiority with an emphasis on communicating the value of high-resolution imaging, dual-lens coverage, AI intelligence and ease of installation. For retailers, our strategy is built around category growth: helping stores lift average selling prices by offering solutions that deliver materially better performance and customer outcomes. We will pair this with improved in-store training, digital assets and streamlined merchandising that makes the category easier to shop.” A comprehensive suite of training assets, including brochures, product videos, comparison guides and short-format training modules are available via a dedicated Google Drive library. In addition, Reolink has invested in AI-driven training development. Using advanced content-generation tools to produce online training materials featuring AI avatars, product demonstrations and short hype reels. Nigro added that this format has proven particularly effective for onboarding new retail staff most notably within The Good Guys, that ensures consistent product knowledge across teams, even in high-turnover environments. Reolink has also deployed an innovative virtual sales assistant in Costco stores. By scanning a QR code at the shelf, customers can access installation videos, accessory selectors, product explainers and interactive Q&A via an AI avatar that can be customised in retailer uniforms. This solution enhances customer education while reducing the need for physical POS materials and minimising e-waste. AR

away, and 22% checking in through apps or video doorbells. Combined with the rapid adoption of higher-resolution, AI-enhanced cameras from Ring and Blink, the data confirms a clear trend that Australians expect to see, understand, and act on what’s happening at home from anywhere, he said.

Mark Fletcher Managing Director Over the last 12 months, Ring and Blink have observed strong growth in Australia, driven by simple, reliable ways to stay connected to what matters. “Our recent research shows over half (57%) of Australians worry about their homes when they’re away, and almost two-thirds (63%) said they would relax more easily if they could check in virtually, a clear indication that smart security has become a practical, everyday utility rather than a nice-to-have,” Mark Fletcher said. “We’re seeing a real shift in how Australians think about home security. It’s no longer about deterring break-ins it’s increasingly about peace of mind. Our research also shows nearly 60% of Australians experience what we are calling “away-from-home anxiety,” with 65% saying home security is their top concern when they travel and want the ability to check in quickly, see what’s happening in real time.” Fletcher added that this behaviour is driving demand for smarter, more intuitive security solutions. Customers want better video quality, stronger low-light performance, and AI-powered intelligence to help them distinguish between what’s urgent and what’s not. “We’re also seeing strong growth in multi-device setup, with households wanting different cameras for different needs, from perimeter monitoring to indoor visibility. Many are taking this a step further with whole-of-home integration with Alexa capabilities. Consumers want clarity, simplicity, and reliability without complexity or major installation needs.” Research also highlights the scale of change in consumer behaviour and reinforces why Australians are turning to brands like Ring and Blink for added reassurance. And 57% worry about their homes while on holiday, and nearly one in 10 said these concerns significantly affect their ability to relax. Importantly, 63% said they would feel more at ease if they could check in virtually, a behaviour reflected in the strong adoption of Ring Video Doorbells, Ring cameras, and Blink’s affordable camera range, he said.

There were 10 new products launched recently including Ring’s first-ever 4K camera lineup powered by Retinal Vision technology. It includes the 3rd generation Wired Video Doorbell Pro, 2nd generation Spotlight Cam Pro, 2nd generation Floodlight Cam Pro and Outdoor Camera Pro, all delivering clarity, enhanced low-light performance, and up to 10x enhanced zoom. Also new are Retinal 2K devices, comprising the Indoor Camera Plus and 2nd generation Wired Video Doorbell Plus offering true-to-life clarity at more accessible price points. New AI-powered features, include Smart Video Descriptions, that give customers concise, meaningful alerts like “a person walking up the steps with a dog,” and Smart Video Search, that enable customers to easily search through Ring camera footage. The Blink range has been expanded with the Blink Video Doorbell, the Blink Mini 2K+, the Blink Outdoor Floodlight Mount, and Blink Arc, a dualcamera solution providing a seamless 180-degree panoramic view. These products respond directly to feedback for simple, affordable, high-coverage security solutions. The new Blink Mini 2K+ delivers 2K resolution in a compact form factor. “Across both brands, our focus remains the same: delivering smarter, clearer, and more accessible home security for every household,” Fletcher said. The company is also seeing more pragmatic motivations, including over a third (37%) who worry about parcel deliveries, 36% about their car, and half who worry about their pets, illustrating that home security now means monitoring a broader ecosystem of daily life, not just the front door. 2025 was shaped by ongoing cost-of-living pressures and a more cautious consumer mindset. Brands with strong awareness and clear, consistent value remained resilient, especially those solving real household needs with quality and reliability. There was growth in consumer awareness around sustainability, with energy and water efficiency a stronger part of purchasing decisions. “THIS YEAR BROUGHT standout milestones across both product and market performance. For Beko, partner support remained strong, especially in the second half, when we delivered key launches including improved energy- and water-efficient dishwashers, AeroPerfect technology in our 60cm freestanding cookers, and a fresh range of Beko SDA products. For Hitachi, trade interest continued to build, broadening distribution and strengthening our premium position. Key highlights included the launch of the 670 MIJ, expansion into SDA through Mann & Noble and Amazon, and the introduction of front-load laundry,” Jim Kalotheos said. “In my first six months, the real highlight has been building strong connections with our key partners at a senior level and investing in relationships that matter in a challenging market. I’m proud of the momentum we’ve created in expanding distribution and elevating the presence of both Beko and Hitachi, supported by growing consumer advocacy and recognition through reviews. Another has been working closely with Beko’s senior leadership team to help shape the business direction across Australia and New Zealand. 34

“Over the next 12 months, growth will come from what consumers value most. The strength of our European heritage, quality, reliability and accessible global design, creates a clear space to keep introducing products that reinforce this positioning. Sustainability will remain central, woven through our operations and product roadmap. For Hitachi, Japanese innovation and food-preservation technology continue to resonate with discerning customers, and we’ll build on this with premium, uniquely Japanese designs. “As we’ve moved beyond the five-year mark post-Covid, we expect a natural replacement cycle to lift categories like laundry and dishwashers, with consumers trading up for greater efficiency. And while the renovations market awaits stronger momentum, the industry can bridge this through products that deliver meaningful savings in energy and water, an area where Beko is especially well placed to support households,” he said. The industry’s biggest challenges mirror the expectations of increasingly informed consumers. Sustainability will remain front and centre, not just in energy and water efficiency, but in packaging, product lifecycles, recyclability and transparency around how and where products are made. “At the same time, rising business operating costs and downward pressure on average selling prices will continue to test the health of the category. Encouraging consumers to invest in better, longer-lasting solutions will require closer industry alignment. And supply-chain unpredictability, driven by shifting consumer behaviour and geopolitical pressures, will make forecasting harder than ever. Strengthening collaboration with retail partners, from factory to shop floor, will be essential to navigate the year ahead. “Sustainability sits at the heart of Beko’s ethos, so our commitment goes well beyond product features. This year, we continued to embrace a holistic approach, extending initiatives to our own people through programs like Treely and Beko Day, reinforcing that sustainability is something we live, not just talk about. For consumers and retailers, we communicate this through the practical benefits they see every day: efficient energy and water usage, thoughtful packaging choices and products designed to support more sustainable living at home. It’s about making meaningful impact in small, consistent ways.” Looking to the future Kalotheos expects to see continued momentum for both Beko and Hitachi as awareness grows and distribution expands. I believe we’ll keep building on the global recognition our brands have earned. The businesses that stay true to their values while delivering meaningful solutions for real homes will be the ones that thrive, and we’re confident in the role we’ll play in that future.” AR

For Narta, 2025 will be remembered as a year when, despite a continued challenging and competitive consumer environment, the industry demonstrated resilience through partnership and shared accountability. IN 2025 THE market was tough, suppliers and retailers were under pressures that were different to previous years, with cost pressures and greater influences from overseas offices driving different behaviours, Michael Jackson said. “It was a milestone year for Narta, celebrating 60 years in business that allowed us to not only reflect on our heritage but also set a clear view of our future direction.” Narta continued to grow revenues and expand its role as a retail services and data-enabled partner for the industry. The evolution of MarketVue and MarketVue IQ allowed retailers and suppliers to access deeper insights faster, with Monday publication cycles now enabling more informed, agile and adaptive decision-making each week. “With a strong focus and drive with establishment of our executive leadership groups over 2023 and 2024, it was 2025 that will be remembered as the year where collaboration became a real differentiator. Whether through sustainability initiatives, training programs, or joint market research, the achievements that stand out the most are those delivered together across the group.” A personal highlight was seeing the strength of aligned leadership across retailers and suppliers, particularly when working together on shared challenges rather than individually. “With strategies that had been formed in previous years it was also seeing the success of these strategies in their execution during 2025. By bringing leaders from both sides of the industry together it delivered a co-designed training, information and learning program which led to the launch of NGAGE. A genuine example of collaboration 36

driving a practical, scalable outcome.” Another is the industry-wide customer insights program with Kantar. “It represents the largest scale of insights into our market, understanding shopper behaviour and how various demographics and generations view AI across our categories and the role it plays for them. Keeping pace with this will be important through 2026 and beyond and all this only exists because leadership across the group agreed to invest in something bigger than any one organisation.” Looking ahead, Jackson expects the market to continue presenting both complexity and opportunity. Consumer confidence may remain uneven, but the group has the benefit of scale, data and operational experience on its side. In 2026 the biggest opportunities lie in: ` Smarter use of data to simplify decisions, make more powerful decisions, smarter investments and optimise inventory ` Shared systems and services that reduce duplication of cost across the supply chain and scale that provides real value ` Training and enablement that lifts capabilities and customer experience ` Sustainability choices becoming easier and clearer for consumers to act on. At Narta strategic priority is efficiency and value: using the combined scale of the group to improve financial and operational outcomes industry wide. As for sustainability it is now a fundamental expectation, Jackson said, rather than a differentiator with Narta’s focus on involvement and commitment to the Coalition for Sustainable Solutions (COFOSS) and its five key pillars, created out of Narta’s executive leadership groups, and a collaboration that COFOSS is an industry body for consumer electronics. Narta will continue to help consumers make informed, practical choices, and not overwhelm them with complexity. “EcoBuddy is a good example. It simplifies energy-efficient product education into something accessible at point-of-sale. It allows our retailers and suppliers to speak a consistent, credible language to consumers about sustainability benefits that are environmentally responsible and cost-positive in the home. We will continue to build sustainability into our service model in ways that are easy to understand, easy to apply, and meaningful to the shopper.” Jackson predicts that the businesses that actively collaborate, rather than operate in isolation, will outperform the market. “Retailers and suppliers who lean into shared data, shared systems, and shared capability development will see greater speed, efficiency, and value creation in 2026. The era of “going it alone” is behind us. The scale of the group is more powerful when it is used collectively and consistently.” AR

2025 has been another strong year for Miele ANZ, defined by meaningful innovation and hard work. Two standout highlights were the launch of the Nova laundry range and the introduction of the Guard vacuum series. Both product lines elevate performance, protection and long-term sustainability, reinforcing Miele’s leadership in their respective categories. “NOVA IS LEADING the way in luxury garment care, combining intuitive technology, gentle fabric protection and intelligent sustainability features. For Miele, this reinforces our commitment to purposeful design and our Immer Besser (Forever Better) philosophy.” Sustainability is central to Miele’s identity. This isn’t a trend, but a longstanding commitment, as it shapes product design, manufacturing standards and the long-term durability the company is known for. “At every level we are ensuring that our sustainability initiatives are being communicated to retailers and consumers via in-store demonstrations, training, digital education and our Miele Experience Centres. Products like the Nova laundry range clearly demonstrate our sustainable approach, with features such as AI-enabled energy management and automatic detergent dosing to support responsible living. “We anticipate the momentum for intuitive, connected and sustainable appliances will continue. Partnering with Unox Casa as their exclusive NSW representative has also been a gamechanger for Whitfords Designer Appliances. “In a market where designers and architects are constantly seeking innovative solutions that blend professional-grade performance with sophisticated design Unox Casa has given us a unique proposition that sets us apart,” director Ben Whitford said. “The response from the design community has been exceptional. JB Hi-Fi’s sustainability plan and commitments are receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from team members. “I AM EXCITED to take on the Group CEO role having been part of this business for the past 16 years, and believe that in JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and e&s, we have three of Australia’s most loved, respected and successful retail brands, overseen by an experienced and incredibly talented team. Our businesses are in great shape and are well positioned to maximise the opportunities ahead of them,” Nick Wells said. “Retailing is a dynamic and exciting industry and JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and e&s are market leaders in their respective sectors.” “The core of our proposition has always been, and will remain, our unwavering focus on customers who continue to turn to us for their technology and home appliance needs, and our over 16,000 dedicated and knowledgeable team members across Australia and New Zealand who continue to respond and adapt to meet these needs. We are committed to having a positive impact on our people, our community and our environment,” he said. “In our FY25 Sustainability Report, we outlined the progress made in our key areas of focus, which included 40% of the Group’s energy now coming 40

from renewable sources and a 32% decrease in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from our FY20 baseline year, as we continue to work towards net-zero direct (scope 1 and 2) carbon emissions by 2030; continued investment in our teams, with 1333 leaders completing a leadership development course and 129 managers completing the women in leadership training program; recycling 9,632 tonnes of e-waste, collected through recycling kiosks in JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys stores, and scrap metal from appliances collected from customers’ homes; launch of a waste diversion target as we work towards achieving 80 per cent waste diversion by 2030 and workplace giving donations totalling $4.6 million in FY25 and $44 million since inception.” In FY26, the Group will remain focused on the following four key areas: Retail Execution: In a competitive retail environment, a strong retail execution remains essential, and JB Hi-Fi will continue to actively demonstrate and prove value to customers, especially during key sales events such as Black Friday and Boxing Day. The operating model will be kept simple and efficient, focusing on the metrics that matter, driving operational improvements and reinvesting those efficiencies into customer-facing roles, while enhancing customer engagement and evolving the in-store experience; Multichannel: the multichannel capability will be strengthened leveraging significant online traffic and expanding the marketplace offer. Membership programs will remain a focus, delivering personalisation at scale and enhancing sales channels. At the same time, it will ensure consistent customer experiences across all touchpoints and stay connected with shoppers however their shopping journeys evolve; Brand Reach: The store network across the Group will be expanded in FY26, with three new JB Hi-Fi stores in New Zealand, one new e&s store and five JB Hi-Fi Australia stores. One JB Hi-Fi Australia store will close and two major store relocations for The Good Guys will be completed. The Commercial businesses will continue to grow as the customer base expands, strengthening its position across the market; and Supply Chain: The investment in building and maintaining a fit-forpurpose Supply Chain network is ongoing, with a focus on delivering best-in-class delivery options for customers across all of its channels, optimising inventory flow to ensure strong stock availability, particularly during peak trading periods and improving the flow of bulky products. “We remain committed to offering great value and exceptional customer service to maximise our brands’ sales opportunities. As always, our team’s unwavering focus on our customer, combined with our ability to adapt and innovate, will ensure our brands remain the destination for shoppers into the future,” Wells said. AR

A major milestone in H2 2026 will be the introduction of a brand refresh.

Claudio Formoso said in 2025 Sunbeam delivered one of its most focused and strategically aligned years across product development, market execution, and category performance. It was a year defined by clarity: “in where we play, how we win, and the value we bring to Australian households and our retail partners”. “OUR PRIORITY WAS to sharpen our focus on the two categories where Sunbeam has a deep heritage and strong consumer trust: heated cooking and coffee. Cooking remains a core strength for the brand, and in coffee we see meaningful opportunity to rebuild relevance through accessible, high-performance innovation. These categories continue to show strong consumer appetite for premiumisation, improved performance and simplified usability. Throughout 2025, every major decision we made was anchored in strengthening these growth pillars.” A highlight was the launch of the new Sunbeam Origins espresso range, the most significant product redevelopment in years. This full suite of machines represents the best of where the brand is heading that is in elevated design, intuitive usability and purposeful innovation, that includes TempSense technology, engineered to ensure more accurate and consistent temperature milk control. Not only does this technology enhance performance, but it also supports meaningful consumer trade-up, providing retailers with stronger margin opportunities. The Origins Espresso range is more than a product launch – it marks a strategic reset for the brand within coffee. It reflects a renewed design philosophy, a commitment to solving real consumer problems, and an investment in innovation that is both functional and accessible. It sets the benchmark for what retailers can expect from Sunbeam moving forward: a more cohesive portfolio and stronger innovation cycles. Retailers have also highlighted the improved design consistency, clearer positioning, and stronger instore story the range delivers.

Claudio Formoso General Manager ANZ Newell Brands – Sunbeam

Another major shift with its investments is in go-to-market resources, with a strengthening of its presence and support at store level within dedicated resources in major Australian cities. Cooking is also enjoying a strong performance, particularly in air fryers, where endorsement strategies and brand partnerships have helped accelerate momentum. “Cooking remains a core category for us, and our longstanding trust with consumers is reflected in our recent air fryer results.” Looking ahead to the next 12 months, Sunbeam sees its greatest opportunities in deepening focus. “The small appliance landscape remains highly competitive, but we believe that sharpening our category strategy and refining how we show up as a brand will allow us to create disproportionate value for retailers and consumers. For Sunbeam, 2026 is not about broadening our footprint, it’s about reinforcing our areas of strength and building the foundations for future growth.” As for the brand refresh, it represents more than a visual update, it is a strategic reset, designed to modernise how Sunbeam shows up across all consumer and retail touchpoints, intended to bring greater consistency, clearer product architecture, and a stronger emotional connection with shoppers. “We see this as an exciting step for the brand, giving Sunbeam a more contemporary voice while staying true to our heritage of practical, reliable innovation. “As we enter 2026, Sunbeam is more focused, more aligned, and more committed than ever to delivering innovation that matters and value that retailers can count on,” he said. Harvey Norman said its decade-long flagship expansion strategy has cemented the brand as one of Australia’s most successful home, lifestyle and technology retailers, backed by a growing international footprint and increased investment in AI-led product innovation. IN A VIDEO presentation shown at the company’s recent Annual General Meeting, Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page said the company now operates “195 franchise complexes and 121 company-operated stores in eight countries, reaching a population of 90 million”. She said the combination of home, lifestyle and tech spans “over 5000 brands and more than 300,000 products,” supported by experienced franchisees and strong supplier relationships, adding that Harvey Norman’s AI-enabled technology is increasingly shaping its product offering. “AI-enabled tech continues to transform the Harvey Norman product offering that was first launched in all Harvey Norman complexes in June last year. It provides an ever-increasing choice for our customers, and our team remain at the forefront of product knowledge in how our customers can benefit from AI-enabled tech in daily life.” Page identified the opening of Harvey Norman’s new MacGregor Homemaker Centre in Brisbane as the retailer’s most significant physical expansion over the past year. “The 257,000s sq.ft site is the retailers “fifth most valuable property, valued at $A105 million,” and MacGregor reflects its ability “to identify, expand and deliver large-format retail in high-value metropolitan growth centres.” In New Zealand’s South Island, the retailer opened new stores in Ravenswood and Papanui and according to executive director and COO John Slack-Smith these additions bring its 42

New Zealand company-owned network to 43 stores, and ensures that: “73% of the New Zealand population live within 10 kilometres of a Harvey Norman store”. The company will soon celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Singapore flagship at Millenia Walk. Harvey Norman Singapore and Malaysia managing director Bernice Kwok said the 100,000 sq ft store attracts “over 700,000 visitors monthly,” calling its performance “a testament to the original blueprint to deliver the best in-store home and lifestyle customer shopping experience”. Harvey Norman Singapore has since expanded with new stores at Lot One Shoppers’ Mall and Punggol Coast Mall. In Malaysia, four new stores opened during the year, with another scheduled for December. All sites are located in high-foot-traffic malls across Sarawak, Sibu, Penang, Selangor and Kiara Bay. Kwok said the Malaysian flagship at Mid Valley Megamall, one of the country’s busiest centres, has expanded to “61,000 square feet, with 17 million visitors per annum”. There is also expansion in Europe with Harvey Norman Europe managing director Melissa Wilson commenting that the company’s flagships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Zagreb, Croatia, continue to record strong foot traffic due to their central positions within the EU, with the 110,000 sq.ft Ljubljana flagship seeing a “10% increase in footfall in FY25”. In Zagreb, stage one of a major refurbishment was completed in December, with stage two scheduled for completion next month. Wilson said the redevelopment has already “enhanced customer experience, attracting new anchor tenants and improved accessibility.” Harvey Norman is also constructing a new 200,000 sq.ft complex in East Zagreb, slated to open in 2027, with plans to occupy half the space and lease the remainder. Moving to Ireland, Harvey Norman’s 60,000 sq.ft Tallaght flagship remains central to its network, with the company stating that “approximately 2.3 million people in Ireland live within 20 kilometres of one of the 16 Irish stores”. Page said Harvey Norman’s operating model continues to rely on the integration of physical stores and online services. “Large-format home, lifestyle and tech stores thrive in communities with supportive economies, strategic regional planning and efficient transport and logistics systems,” she said. And rather than replacing in-store shopping, online retail remains complementary to physical retail, giving customers flexibility across all eight operating countries. Harvey Norman’s omni-channel approach, according to Page, remains a “proven blueprint for sustainable retail growth, adapting to meet customer needs in a dynamic AI-enabled retail landscape.” AR

Silent innovation, local investment and a year of step-change growth.

Anthony Fletcher Director Schweigen

FOR SCHWEIGEN 2025 will be remembered as the year silent extraction went mainstream. “Despite a mixed retail environment, Schweigen delivered more than 30% growth by staying obsessed with end-user experience and backing our retail partners with innovation, availability and support,” Anthony Fletcher said. “We’ve seen strong sell-through, higher average transaction values and growing consumer demand for premium, design-led ventilation.” The launch of the Schweigen Design Range, a new design-led collection that combines silent performance, premium finishes and intuitive controls was a highlight for the year. “We’ve pushed hard on technology, introducing our new German-made inline motor platform and expanding manufacturing in Springvale, Victoria, to improve lead times, customisation and quality control.” The opening of the new South Melbourne showroom was another milestone. “It’s become a hub where retailers, designers and homeowners can experience silent extraction, talk Indoor Air Quality and see complete kitchen solutions in one place. Seeing our team

grow in capability and confidence, especially our product, operations and sales leaders, has been the standout of my year.” Looking ahead, Fletcher said the biggest opportunity lies in educating consumers on the health and comfort benefits of effective, silent ventilation, and making it easy for retailers to lead that conversation. “Over the next 12 months we’ll open new showrooms in Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland as we expand deeper into New Zealand, supported by enhanced training, displays and digital tools for our partners. “As we move into 2026, the key challenge and opportunity for the industry is to lift standards in performance, sustainability and transparency. For Schweigen, that means more energy-efficient motors, durable materials, responsible packaging and longer-life solutions, communicated clearly at point of sale, in specifier resources and through our digital channels.” And his prediction? “Silent, effective ventilation will move from ‘nice to have’ to ‘nonnegotiable’, and retailers who lead that story will win.” AR

Bing Lee acknowledged that 2025 has been another challenging year in retail and the Australian economy continues to struggle and retail trade across all categories is muted. REFLECTING ON THE past year he described IFA as informative. “It showed me that whilst we are at the start of the AI journey when it comes to being integrated in the products we sell, manufacturers are investing heavily in it, developing products that give consumers a reason to open their wallets and buy new technology. While we are not at that point yet, I believe we are on a better path than the ‘connected home’ we talked about for many years.” He said Bing Lee continues to have very strong promotional periods. “This is proof that when our entire business is aligned and focused on an important event it can execute and offer consumers a compelling reason to shop with us. And seeing Bing Lee staff engaged and well represented in supplier training events is always a highlight. It shows how the team values knowledge of products and information from suppliers about their brand and new innovations to help give them the best and most knowledgeable experience for our customers. The positive feedback we continue to get from international visitors about Signature Appliances and the Bing Lee shops we take them to, continues to be a source of pride for myself and our team.” 44

Peter Harris General Manager BING LEE

He described the Narta conference as a fantastic experience and great opportunity to spend time with suppliers and Narta members, as well as listen to informative and inspirational speakers. “Narta continues to drive some great initiatives via the Executive Leadership Groups. “Seeing the industry come together for the Bret Quinn MND fundraising dinner was a reminder that we do work in a special industry. “I think I said this at the end of 2024 about 2025, but I believe we will see a better retail environment in 2026. The rate cuts in 2025 have been realised by most people and we will hopefully see further cuts in 2026 if the latest inflation numbers pull back. We are getting to the replacement cycle for lots of products consumers purchased during Covid and there are many compelling reasons now to upgrade from those older models.” However, Harris believes the industry needs to think long and hard about how it executes promotions, and how often and how deep suppliers go. “The erratic nature of sell-through is an administrative nightmare; they waste valuable time and resources. More importantly it is very hard for our teams on the floor to have confidence in a price from one day to the next, and more importantly, is confusing for our customers as price changes are harder to follow than the movement of crypto currency or Trump’s tariffs! “We need to continue to highlight innovation in products and new technologies to get consumers to spend their hard-earned money in our part of the retail market, not other sectors.” And sustainability and the environment need to be front-of-mind with all businesses, and everyone needs to play their part in being more sustainable and consumers demand it, he said. “We take our impact on the environment seriously and have several internal processes in place to help reduce our impact. As a family-owned business, we probably don’t shout about what we are doing as loudly as listed companies, but we are doing our bit. Bing Lee continues to support COFOSS and Sam Zalin is a board member. “I have several goals I wish to achieve in 2026 for Bing Lee, but the best time for the industry to hear about them will be right here as an article in Appliance Retailer once we execute them. We are the small guys against the big guys so it’s best we fly under the radar for now!” AR

One of the key challenges is the rapid and exponential pace of technological change and adoption of AI.

Nick Moore General Manager Australia BREVILLE

WHEN IT COMES to product development and market execution Breville’s innovation is powered by a team of designers, engineers, and product managers in Australia. “This is what allows us to create products that set new standards both here and overseas. And in 2025 were two landmark innovations: the Oracle Dual Boiler and the Eye Q Auto toaster, each redefining what’s possible in their category,” Nick Moore said. He described the Oracle Dual Boiler as “a masterclass in versatility and innovation”. In auto mode, it creates true café-quality coffee at home, automatically adjusting grind size, managing extraction temperature, and texturing milk with precision to produce silky micro foam, whether using dairy or plant-based alternatives like soy, oat, or almond. The same machine transforms in manual mode, offering full control over grind, extraction, and milk parameters, allowing users to fine-tune every variable and dial in their perfect cup. In October, Australia became the first market in the world to launch the Eye Q Auto

representing the biggest leap forward in toasting technology since the invention of the toaster, and the culmination of a decade of engineering development. At its heart is Sensibility Technology, a breakthrough system that toasts by colour, not time. Using real-time optical sensors and intelligent heat control, the Eye Q Auto analyses the bread as it toasts by tracking colour change 10 times per second, automatically adjusting the heating cycle to account for bread type, freshness and starting temperature. Moore added that the adoption of AI is reshaping how Breville supports its customers and consumers, and how those customers and consumers research, shop for and use the products. “The acceleration has been remarkable, what a year ago was still early adopter territory is becoming mainstream at an extraordinary pace. How quickly we can all learn, adapt, and get the most from these new technologies will be critical to our continued success,” he said. AR

One of the industry’s greatest opportunities and challenges will be educating consumers on the transformational leap represented by RGB MiniLED technology. The difference is something you need to see to believe and showcasing this in meaningful and accessible ways will be essential. “2025 HAS BEEN a landmark year for Hisense, for our organisation, our team and the industry more broadly. We entered the year with tremendous momentum, unveiling our RGB MiniLED TV range, including Australia’s largest consumergrade television to date. This innovation elevated the benchmark for home entertainment and empowered Australians to create richer, more immersive moments shared with family and friends. This year also marked our most expansive product portfolio to date. By delivering advanced smart-home solutions alongside environmentally conscious technologies, we met the growing demand for products that enhance everyday living while supporting a more sustainable future,” Michelle Wee said. “The introduction of our RGB MiniLED TVs stands out as a defining milestone. response to the 116-inch model, with our first shipment selling out through pre-orders in close collaboration with our retail partners. More broadly, 2025 saw strong launches across TVs, Laser display technology and whitegoods. One standout moment for the marketing team was our Hisense Residence experience, where we hosted leading lifestyle media, tech writers and influencers in a Sydney home for an exclusive masterclass with culinary creative, Amanda Cordony. The event showcased how products like the PureView French Door refrigerator integrate effortlessly into modern households, simplifying daily routines and giving families more time to spend together. “Personally, seeing our teams come together to deliver exceptional consumer-first campaigns and industry-leading product launches has been immensely rewarding. “Next-generation display technologies, particularly RGB MiniLED, will remain a significant opportunity. We also see growing demand for products that deliver exceptional value, energy efficiency and sustainability. As households look for ways to optimise energy use and streamline daily tasks, our mission is to provide solutions that support more efficient, more connected and more enjoyable living.” More broadly, cost-of-living pressures continue to influence purchasing decisions while Hisense remains committed to delivering highquality, innovative, value-rich products across all price points. Sustainability is foundational to the Hisense brand and is embedded across every stage of the customer journey. “This year we launched our Eco Vision sustainability standard, a commitment that the appliance a customer chooses is the most efficient and environmentally responsible option we produce. From the efficiency of internal components to the packaging materials used, Eco Vision removes the complexity around sustainable choices and gives customers more time to focus on what matters most.” Hisense will continue to work closely with retail partners to highlight Eco Vision and support environmentally conscious purchasing decisions. Its long-term sustainability approach also extends into the home through the ConnectLife app and Smart AI features, enabling households to optimise energy use, streamline chores and enjoy more connected, efficient and creative living. She expects there will be a significant shift in consumer expectations for entertainment quality with Australians increasingly seeking larger, more vivid and more immersive experiences. “We are confident our 2026 range will exceed these expectations and continue to redefine what the ultimate home entertainment experience can be.” AR

Customers are still investing in their homes, and that plays to our strengths. And our

We are paying attention to the products we range, how they perform on energy use, and how we run our business behind the scenes. “And we are also getting better at explaining these benefits to customers so they can make informed choices. Over the next year, customers will focus even more on value and trust, not just price. A real highlight was our partnership with the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation.

From an industry perspective 2025 was a pivotal year for the Coalition for Sustainable Solutions (COFOSS) Board, with an extensive stakeholder consultation process shaping its threeyear strategic plan, which surfaced clear insights into the sustainability challenges and opportunities facing the consumer electronics and home appliances sector. “AS A NEW organisation, this process helped us crystallise where COFOSS can create the greatest impact and laid the groundwork for the key strategic pillars we are now progressing,” Alice Kuepper said. “A real highlight for COFOSS in 2025 was our partnership with the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) to surface the cost of recovering expanded polystyrene (EPS). COFOSS has been able to bring deep industry knowledge on the use and recovery of EPS to help shape scalable, effective stewardship 48

solutions for a material that remains challenging due to low national recovery rates. This kind of collaboration is why COFOSS was created, demonstrating shared responsibility and enabling practical and evidence-based recommendations,” she said. For COFOSS, 2026 will be about bringing more members into the fold, broadening the platform for collaboration and sharing of best practice. “We expect the first wave of mandatory climate disclosures to land in 2026, which will lift transparency across the market and shine a light on the real progress being made by individual companies. It’s a significant moment for the sector in terms of raising expectations but also creating opportunities to drive sustainable business growth.” A key finding in the COFOSS 2025 Insights Report was the need to better educate consumers about sustainable product choices and responsible end-of-life management. Consumers want to do the right thing, but need clearer messaging, simpler pathways, and more convenient collection points to help them participate in take-back schemes. Market education is a collaboration opportunity COFOSS can facilitate. “When we work together to promote product stewardship and sustainable product choices, we not only increase adoption but also drive repeat purchases and build long-term trust,” she said. With sustainability regulation continuing to tighten in Australia, sustainable business practices will become more than compliance and become a core trust signal in the market. “If we lead collectively by selling more efficient products, supporting consumers to use them in energysmart ways, and ensuring appliances are removed and recycled responsibly, we won’t just keep pace with regulation, we set the benchmark, unlock new revenue opportunities, and help shape a co-regulatory model in Australia that benefits both industry and the planet.” AR

For Electrolux 2025 will be remembered as the year sentiment shifted from price-heavy competition to cautious, value-led optimism. Interest rates eased further early on although Q4 saw some signs in the economy that inflation was beginning to cause concern for consumers as cost-of-living issues remained a factor in purchase considerations. THE YEAR WAS a complex one for retailers and suppliers alike with growth requiring considerable investment and activation. Stifled consumer confidence led to a cautious approach to major household appliance purchases for the first three quarters, according to Kurt Hegvold. “We saw escalation of both promotional frequency and depth of price entrenched as necessary levers to attract and convert cost conscious consumers. This drove a depressed ASP and placed pressure on unit value and margin returns. Gaining growth continues to require diligent long-term planning, and strong collaboration. “Pleasingly, Q4 of the calendar year has been more buoyant. Spearheaded by strong Black Friday events, we saw good household churn and clearance rates which always has positive flow on effects to “intent to purchase” and “actual purchase” of MDAs. This has driven greater optimism across industry and sets us up well for a good Q1 in 2026,” he said. “Personally, 2025 showcased the resilience of our industry and the power of working together. When we work hard together, we find opportunities for shared growth. This year, the industry’s optimism, albeit cautious, was grounded in collaboration, innovation, and a renewed focus on delivering value to consumers. As seen at IFA, the Electrolux group is continuing to bring innovation to life across its categories and brands. “The AEG Pizza Assist stood out for me as not only a great simple innovation, but a launch that generated real excitement. The way in which it was brought to market created a level of interest through immersive experiences which were hugely relatable from a consumer experience perspective. On top of this we launched new AEG cooking platform, a new Electrolux Ultimate Care 3 range and many more successful innovations.

2025 will be remembered as a year of recalibration and renewed momentum for BSR and generally across the broader appliance industry. “IN THE PAST year BSR strengthened the foundations of our group and renewed longer term strategic plans and goals. We sharpened our operational focus and continued to modernise key store formats, while strengthening the Betta and Designer Appliances brands through improved customer experience,” Gavin Carter said. “Core categories such as refrigeration, cooking, laundry and small appliances performed consistently. While consumers continue to chase value, we did see a return to needs-based purchasing cycling off from the earlier Covid years. This helped reward retailers such as BSR who deliver trust, expertise and meaningful value not just pure price positioning. “My personal highlights centred around the resilience and professionalism of our people. Across our network, both at the support centre and our members, teams remained focused despite a demanding environment. We have worked with our people through various levels of training and personal development programs. Collaboration with our suppliers also stood out with joint business planning, aligned promotional strategies and shared category development that 50

delivered tangible benefits for our customers. This cohesion across our business reinforced the power of partnership in our industry.” Looking ahead to 2026, Carter was optimistic about the opportunities for both BSR Group and the wider industry. As economic conditions stabilise, he expects an increase in the natural replacement cycle to drive renewed interest in core appliances, while growth opportunities driven by population growth and property churn will help drive an increase in more premium upgrades. Other areas such as connected home solutions and energy-efficient technologies will likely gain traction too. “For the BSR Group, 2026 will see continued investment in our branded retail experience, stronger omnichannel capability, and deeper local market engagement, and supporting our members, and ultimately the customers, who have always been the cornerstone of everything we do.” Sustainability has shifted from an optional consideration to a fundamental responsibility for the industry and BSR Group. The focus is on offering highly efficient, environmentally aligned products while improving the operational footprint through better recycling practices, packaging initiatives and conscious store development. Also, communicating sustainability through education, digital content, and clear in-store messaging to help families make informed choices about long-term efficiency and environmental impact. He believes trust and service will increasingly define performance, being mindful of the challenges and opportunities on what AI will bring. “We are already seeing AI change the way consumers search, and this will only increase going forward. The traditional path or sales journey for the customer is being rewritten to a point. For the BSR Group, I believe the next 12 months will be defined by stronger member performance, deeper supplier partnerships, and meaningful progress in our stores and digital transformation agenda. “The retailers who lead with clarity of value, customer focus and embrace AI in the right way will be the ones who gain momentum in the year ahead,” he said. In-store support remained a key priority in 2025.

Peter Marsman National Retail Sales Manager Mitsubishi Electric

LOOKING BACK ON 2025, Peter Marsman said a defining theme for Mitsubishi Electric has been the power of consistency — particularly across retail training, in-store execution, and national campaign delivery. “In a rapidly evolving industry, our focus has remained firmly on ensuring our retail partners feel equipped, informed, and supported at every touchpoint.” “This year, we continued to invest heavily in ongoing product education, recognising that confident and knowledgeable retail teams deliver superior customer experiences. Through the Narta NGAGE Training Platform, we provided structured and accessible learning content, while our participation at the Harvey Norman Major Domestic Appliance Expo reinforced the value of faceto-face engagement. These initiatives not only strengthened product understanding but also provided a valuable opportunity to reach and engage with retail teams from across the country, further supporting national alignment,” he said. Updated POS materials were rolled out nationally, ensuring partners had clear, accurate and impactful tools to communicate product features and benefits, ultimately helping

customers better understand the Mitsubishi Electric value proposition. National sales campaigns were another highlight. This year’s ‘Winter Gift Card Campaign’ continued to drive strong engagement during a traditionally challenging seasonal period, while the ‘Redemption Campaign’ – offering an air purifier with the purchase of selected refrigerators – demonstrated the potential of cross-category promotion. Product innovation also remained at the forefront, highlighted by the introduction of built-in Wi-Fi to the popular AP Series. “This enhancement elevated the consumer experience with increased convenience and connectivity, further strengthening one of our most trusted and best-selling ranges. Mitsubishi Electric was also recognised by CHOICE as the Best Brand in Fridges for the fifth consecutive year. “As we look ahead, our commitment is unwavering: to deepen our retailer partnerships, expand our training ecosystem, and continue delivering products and programs that reinforce Mitsubishi Electric’s position as a leader in innovation and trusted performance,” Marsman said. Over the next 12 months, the strongest opportunities for growth will come from the continued shift toward smarter, more intuitive security experiences.

Brad Little Vice President & Managing Director – Asia Pacific Arlo Technologies

CONSUMERS ARE NO longer satisfied with devices that simply record what happened – they want solutions that help them understand and respond in real time. This growing expectation for intelligence, simplicity and trust positions the category for meaningful expansion, according to Brad Little. “We see a real opportunity in the way Australians are embracing AI-driven protection. As people become more aware of the difference between basic alerts and genuinely useful insights, the value of platforms like Arlo Secure is understood. The ability to deliver precise, live notifications will be major drivers of upgrades and first-time adoption,” he said. “There is growing momentum behind full home coverage. Households are broadening from single-device setups to integrated solutions that include cameras, doorbells, sensors and smart lighting. This shift allows retailers to guide

customers from standalone purchases toward more complete, higher value systems. “We want to make the category easier for consumers to navigate. 2025 marked a major 50-year milestone for Hart & Co. TO COMMEMORATE RICK Hart’s 50 years in the appliance industry, we launched a new marketing strategy highlighting Rick’s decades of trusted advice to West Australians, guiding them to choose the perfect appliances. The campaign also showcased our specialisation in premium kitchen and laundry appliances, reinforcing our leadership in the market. “We were very encouraged to see growth across both our retail and trade divisions and improved sales performance for our key brand partners,” Nicholas Kirby said. “This success was underpinned by long-term collaboration, our prominent marketing presence and a focus on delivering an exceptional customer experience, led by our highly trained sales experts. “We were honoured that our leadership in customer experience was recognised by winning the National Inside Retail Award for Customer Service Excellence, reflecting our ongoing focus on an experience-led approach. Customer experience remains a key trend in retail and Hart & Co. continues to lead the way in the appliance sector, demonstrating that well-executed service and education drive both trust and commercial performance,” he said. “The main personal highlight of 2025 was the celebration of Rick Hart’s 50 years in the appliance industry. Witnessing the way the industry, our customers and the broader WA community responded with such respect, admiration and recognition was inspiring. It also served as a powerful reminder of how fortunate I have been to work alongside an industry legend, learning from his decades of leadership, vision and 52

dedication. Celebrating this milestone has also been a professional highlight, reinforcing the impact that trusted advice, consistent leadership and a commitment to retail excellence can have over time,” he said. The retailer enters 2026 with strong growth aspirations, building on the momentum of recent years. “The market remains robust, particularly in the high-end renovation segment, where customers are seeking premium, innovative and performance-led appliances. “For Hart & Co., this presents an opportunity to lead through expertise and experience-led retail, guiding customers throughout their renovation or building journey. We also see strong opportunities to deepen our partnerships with key suppliers, building on past successes to drive mutual growth and reinforce our market leadership with their brands. A focus in 2026 will be on showcasing the latest appliance innovations in the state-of-theart showroom. “Sustainability will be another, reflected in both the products we offer and the guidance we provide to customers. Modern appliances are more energy and water efficient than ever, and our specialists educate customers on how to maximise efficiency, from induction cooktops and smart ovens to optimising dishwasher and laundry cycles. We emphasise high-quality, durable appliances with longer lifespans, highlighting energy ratings, sustainable materials, and responsible usage to deliver both environmental and cost benefits.” The company’s premium delivery service supports this commitment, responsibly removing and recycling old appliances and packaging to divert waste from landfill and encourage resource reuse. Sustainability at Hart & Co. is about empowering customers with knowledge and practical strategies to enjoy high-performance, long-lasting products while reducing environmental impact, Kirby said. “Over the next 12 months, we expect to see exciting product developments driven by AI, with greater integration into kitchen and cooking appliances. These advancements will focus on enhancing the user experience, making appliances smarter, more intuitive and better able to assist customers in achieving optimal cooking results and efficiency.” AR

Haier has strengthened its presence in cooking over recent years, with a strong portfolio that will continue to grow with new product introductions. HAIER IS PROUD to invest in growing the brand in Australia and New Zealand markets, leveraging iconic brand elements that connect with and engage our customers, according to Fabio Valente. With an aspiration to become the number one everyday appliance brand in Australia and New Zealand, Valente said Haier has set a clear marketing plan partnering with global brands and events that resonate deeply in these markets. “Our multi-year sponsorship with the Australian Open – now entering its second year – will see the Haier brand feature prominently with bold digital placements, out-of-home activations, and through retailer channels. Haier has a strong association and legacy with tennis globally, sponsoring the ATP and Rolland Garros, and our investment in the Australian Open builds on that enduring proposition,” he said. Haier recently announced new global sponsorships of two prominent names in world football, launching multi-year associations with Liverpool Football Club and Paris St Germain, extending its deep connection with sport’s most iconic brands. “Haier believes in creating products that are well designed, with innovative technologies that respond to the everyday needs of our consumers. understand our customers: how they live their lives, what is important to them and, ultimately, how we can respond to their needs through insight and innovation. “Ours is an ecosystem approach that focuses on whole-of-home solutions operating via connected platforms that make everyday life simpler. In Australia and New Zealand, our Haier platform extends across laundry, refrigeration, dishwashing, cooking, air conditioning, solar hot water, heat pumps and PV systems.” He added this focus will continue in 2026, with significant investment in cooking – “a category we believe now sets Haier apart”. “Our design pillars leverage years of internal expertise from within the business, and the scale and strength of the wider Haier Group – which includes Fisher & Paykel – to deliver incredible technology and innovation to the market,” he said. One of the key Haier products to be introduced is a $1,999, 60cm pyrolytic steam injected built in oven. “This product is a statement that we will be bringing quality manufacturing and a strong feature set to the Australian market. Cooking is the category that allows us to link to the innovation in other categories including dishwashing. With our H600 dishwasher platform, we deliver three major features that make us successful – the best cleaning performance, lowest noise and largest capacity. “We will also be offering design-focused consumers at the entry to mid-market with the opportunity to experience Haier appliances in different colours including black and grey.” He has also observed significant wins in the commercial channel through partnerships in the Australian market. “The feedback we have received from our retail partners is that the Haier brand continues to take incremental and measured steps forward every year in brand awareness and preference – feedback that is borne out by our growth figures. We have strong aspirations for this market to become the number one everyday appliance brand, and a deep belief in our ability to achieve that,” Valente said. AR

For Rawsons Appliances in 2025 it was continued growth for household appliances, especially in markets driven by influencers such as kitchen studios, architects and designers. SOUTH AUSTRALIA HAS been performing well when benchmarked against other states and consumer confidence remains strong, Jon Pysing said. “There was a greater spend on alfresco dining and entertaining and also on BBQs, pizza cooking, refrigeration and cabinetry, with perhaps less spent on product features for indoor appliances.” According to Pysing it is rewarding for all the team when they witness a go-to-market strategy delivering strong returns, because: “South Australia is a very personal city to do business and you must be sincere in delivering your message and promise to clients. Our industry insights allow us to work with a wide variety of influencers at community and construction industry level, and we are big supporters of architectural and construction bodies,” he said. Rawsons will celebrate 80 years in 2026, and this will be a strong driver to seek more market opportunities. “While it is something we are very proud of as it gives us good standing in South Australia, we will continue to be discerning who 54

we partner with, which has been a cornerstone of our business for decades. We continue to work with and push our suppliers as we seek market opportunities and look beyond traditional household appliances as we broaden our portfolio of products that connect to the home. Having 80 years in electrical contracting has given us great insights into the electrification of the world.” Pysing has observed a strong push away from gas products and the company has stayed at the forefront by embracing categories such as electric fires, infrared underfloor heating, electric BBQs, heat pump hot water, solar and batteries and EV chargers. “Everything electrically wired to the home is an appliance and we view and understand it that way. “We are an industry leader by driving electrification initiatives to consumers. Whilst customers are still grappling with sustainability over value, we continue to push sustainable virtues, and introducing new connected technologies is uppermost in our business strategy. Not just token gestures but meaningful features that help clients manage and balance their home energy requirements. Solar and battery storage can be better managed with the installation of household appliances best suited to connectivity that allow operation during beneficial times and loads for the user. SA is often running on 100% renewables, and our clients want to be a part of this. Running the energy heavy appliances during the day when the home is often empty is a smart use of power.” His prediction for the future is that Asia will continue to grow its influence over Australia, as manufacturers set up in the APAC region for gaining faster access to the local market to ensure quicker entry into the home. “The last five years has shown us that long delays will no longer be tolerated. People are moving away from some traditional manufacturers that take too long with inventory. Motoring has shown us that traditional European car makers are being shunned for several reasons, and badge equity is no longer the be-all and end-all with features for a modern user more important now. “And so too is the price, as we will see a broadening of the appliance spend over the whole project. The days of ovens being the prized centre piece of the kitchen are dwindling. It’s more about spreading the spend across more things to get better value. A combi-microwave has become more important to a lot of homes. Induction cooktops now handle most of the cooking and the BBQ area is a large part of entertaining and dining and continues to attract a greater share of the spend. 2026 will see us pivot our business whenever the need arises, which is the beauty of being truly independent,” he said. Gerard Gill Managing Director BLANCO AUSTRALIA

The highlights for BLANCO in 2025 came from the continued growth of BLANCO as a premium supplier of products in the kitchen water space. “THIS FOLLOWED THE introduction of BLANCO Clarion Dark Steel sinks, BLANCO Culina Sensor tap and the expansion of the Tapware range in satin gold, dark steel and platinum with matching sink components, according to Gerard Gill. “The new colours offer individuality for consumers and create a perfect match and harmony with our sink range and also blend in well with new kitchen design trends,” he said. Asked about his biggest learning from the year he offered the importance of customer relationships. “In a challenging market it has been essential to work closely with our retail partners to help support and sell a reliable and well-known brand such as BLANCO.” Speaking about business conditions generally for 2026, he expects the first half

of the year will be similar to 2025, with no interest rate cuts predicted until the second half of 2026. “Consumer confidence is still low with increased energy costs resulting in rising inflation, putting more pressure on household spending. We still have a supply shortage of affordable housing in the Australian market which needs to be addressed, and the increasing demand for more housing will encourage growth in our industry,” he said. As for the biggest opportunities for growth in the current environment – he said these would come from the supply of innovative, premium products for the kitchen where consumers are spending 60% on the communal hub of most households. FOR MHIAA THE year was marked by continued innovation, industry recognition and stronger engagement with our community and sector. “This year further reinforced our position as a trusted, award-winning brand for consumers across Australia and New Zealand,” Jenny Perello said. MHIAA proudly received several major accolades, including Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers – Air Conditioners 2025, the CHOICE Award for Equal Best Brand 2025 in Australia, and Consumer NZ’s People’s Choice Best Brand of Heat Pumps. “These achievements highlight our ongoing commitment to delivering reliable, energyefficient air conditioning solutions that meet the needs of households and businesses,” she said. A significant milestone was the launch of the KXZ3 Series VRF system – an advanced R32 commercial solution designed for sustainability, efficiency and modern integration. Within months of its release, the KXZ3 was awarded the Australian Good Design Award 2025 Green

Tick in the Engineering Design category, recognising its low-emission performance and innovative technology. “We also continued our advocacy for progress within the HVAC industry sponsoring Women in HVAC&R with CCN and the AIRAH Women in HVAC Summit, supporting greater diversity, representation and professional development across the sector. “Our community commitment remained strong through a range of meaningful initiatives, including the Winter Warmer program, HeartKids’ Two Feet & a Heartbeat Walkathon, Movember, and participation in Onigiri Action by the nonprofit TABLE FOR TWO, helping provide school meals to children in need. To close the year, we supported the Toys ’n’ Tucker Christmas appeal, helping families share the joy of the festive season. We also expanded our national presence through a new partnership with Venues NSW, lighting up major stadiums and enhancing brand visibility across the state,” Perello said. AR LEADERS FORUM For The digiDirect Group, 2025 represented the continuation of a revolutionary period of expansion which began in August 2024, when digiDirect acquired Booktopia, adding James Bennett (B2B supplier to libraries) and Mwave to complete its retail group.

Haig Kayserian Director – Retail & Logistics digiDirect

“OUR THREE-YEAR strategy presented at our September Leaders Conference articulated a period of evolution, focusing on realising the potential of all our brands to grow each into sustainable citizens of digiDirect Group. All under one roof in our robotics-automated Strathfield warehouse, all sharing resources both personnel and systems where applicable, and achieving growth in online and physical retail for digiDirect, Mwave and Booktopia,” Haig Kayserian said. “You can’t reflect on the retail industry in 2025 without addressing AI. We have implemented many low-hanging fruit opportunities and are working on others, including in demand planning, customer service, pricing, logistics and financial operations moving forward. A highlight was bringing four brands into one group, establishing material connections through personnel and system integrations, as well as developing cross-cultural pollination between all 500 staff that made these entities’ wheels turn.

“Our AI-if strategy, which forces us to question all our practices with “what if we used AI?”, will develop one real opportunity for operational excellence and bottom-line growth and greater profitability in 2026. In addition, the evolution referred to previously allows us to grow in a meaningful way, including adding digiDirect and Mwave stores, as well as opening a concept bookstore that has us excited for 2026.” Sustainability is engrained into the business, best represented through the engine room of digiDirect Group, which is the Customer Fulfilment Centre. It is already an exemplar of low-wastage sustainability, and additional recycling, solar and circular economy objectives and through the growth of the digiSeconds department these will be a focus. “We will do a better job of communicating all our successes in sustainability to consumers in 2026.” And one prediction? “The digiDirect Group will be on the cutting edge of technology and profitable in every store, business and our greater organisation.” AR

For us, 2026 is about growth through authenticity, consistency, and continued innovation in customer engagement. “Sustainability has become an integral part of how we operate and the brands we choose to partner with. Beyond the products we are also helping to reduce our footprint by responsibly recycling packaging, removing old appliances, and ensuring waste is disposed of ethically. For us, sustainability isn’t just about the products we sell, it’s about making every stage of the process cleaner, smarter, and better for the planet. “As consumer expectations evolve, addon services will no longer be optional; they’ll be essential. A challenging year where we needed more interest rate cuts in a row rather than two spread out while the market has been flat overall.

Mark Tragear Managing Director Bertazzoni

IN THE SECOND year of its subsidiary, Bertazzoni expanded distribution into more specialist retailers. “We are in a position to drive sales and expand distribution to specialist retailers after a year of consolidation,” Mark Tragear said. “The company is making steady growth towards our targets to ensure we are relevant in price and product offering. “We are still establishing retail, however with the new built-in Mirror Specchio finish appliances just launched, we feel boutique developments are certainly an opportunity based on the feedback from the architect and designer community and our retail partners.” “The high-end continues to be strong, but the mid-market segment may still be a challenge. It appears to be a race to the bottom for some brands. My observation is that there are too many features being piled into the low-end models, making the opportunity to sell up challenging.”

The company’s South Melbourne showroom was renovated recently and is now hosting retailer training and events for consumers to see a good representation of the Bertazzoni range. He said Bertazzoni is always looking at how their footprint impacts the environment and packaging is constantly being reviewed with recycling top of mind. “Bertazzoni Australia benefits from the energy rating requirements of appliances in Europe as we take predominantly EU product that meet or exceed European energy requirements. “We will continue to grow in the mid-tohigh-end with a focus on product innovation, beautiful design and outstanding performance. You cannot grow in the market selling ‘same same’. With more specialist retailers now selling Bertazzoni, I expect a big surge in sales for the world’s first 600mm pyro combi steam oven with pyrolytic cleaning, that is available across eight Bertazzoni ovens. It is the industry’s best kept secret, and will certainly create solid interest.” AR

Over the past 12 months, consumers have become far more discerning, with purchase decisions increasingly influenced by immediate affordability rather than long-term benefit.

George Liakatos Managing Director JURA Australia

”

JURA sees one of the biggest challenges and learnings ahead for the appliance industry, is navigating the tension between price and value in a climate shaped heavily by cost-of-living pressures. “OVER THE PAST 12 months, consumers have become far more discerning, with purchase decisions increasingly influenced by immediate affordability rather than long-term benefit. We’ve seen a clear shift toward downscaling, delaying upgrades and choosing repairs over replacement,” George Liakatos said. “This environment has reinforced an important lesson: while price sensitivity is real, consumers will still invest when genuine value is demonstrated. Communicating long-term quality, reliability and ownership benefits, rather than competing on price alone will be essential as the market recalibrates. And the opportunity for growth lies exactly here.

“As economic conditions gradually stabilise and confidence improves, we expect a meaningful return to premiumisation, particularly in categories where innovation truly enhances everyday life. At JURA, we are preparing for this shift with a strong pipeline of products and technologies designed to elevate the consumer experience well beyond basic functionality. With renewed interest in quality and a strengthening willingness to invest in long-lasting solutions, we anticipate a positive uplift in average sale prices and greater engagement across the premium segment in the coming year,” he said. 2025 was a year which struggled to take off, with a huge amount of unease along with a certain amount of insecurity.

Matthew Vozzo Director Elite Sales Solutions

“CONSUMERS SEEMED TO be considering before purchasing, while major sales campaigns have conditioned consumers to hold off on the purchase until they believed the best offer has been presented,” Matthew Vozzo said. On reflection, Elite Sales Solutions has grown its display and execution of the Everdure brand releasing a portable pizza oven that fits a 13-inch pizza, is completely mobile, with an infrared element which gives intense heat while saving energy. “Sales have trended higher in areas where customers are entertaining outside the home and looking to make their homes the complete entertaining hub. “Working with one of my brand stakeholders – Airflo, we have also seen considerable growth in floorcare, premium rice cookers and ice makers.” He expects the biggest challenge will come from AI and how retailers integrate this technology into their offers and everyday environment. “There is still so much we are discovering about the benefits and negatives of AI, we must be agile and ready to learn to pivot where required.” Also, not losing the skill

of service and selling. “I experience a lot of retail environments on my travels, and it seems many are content with making a sale but not taking the time to understand the needs of the customer. I think this is a sign of the times in a fast-paced environment that will leave additional margins on the table which could affect price points and profit. “I am working with key stakeholders on how we can communicate their overall sustainability initiatives and what impact a particular product or appliance may have on the environment.” Looking forward to the next 12 months, he predicts the Elite Sales Group will continue to grow sales for all key stakeholders, identified by clear road maps showing innovative and exciting new products. “The Elite Home Hub concept sales in this format will take time to grow but is a facility being used to develop relationships with key decision makers in the commercial market and home renovation space. Generating unique leads through the Elite Home Hub will benefit retail partners as product specification and purchases will be channelled back to them where applicable,” Vozzo said. AR

THE DECADE-IN-THE-MAKING launch of the new Gaggenau Expressive and Minimalistic Series oven ranges across Australia and New Zealand was a key highlight, upholding the brand’s traditional avant-garde design philosophy, according to Andrew Jones. “Bosch also achieved strong cut-through across all consumer touchpoints, in an evercrowded market, helping to drive robust sales and brand engagement. A personal highlight was the strengthening of our customer service operation, which led to significantly improved first-time-fix rates and expanded service coverage across both regions, reinforcing our commitment to customer satisfaction.” The biggest opportunities for the industry in 2026 he believes would be within the premium segment, across both retail and commercial, following on from the suppressed market conditions post-Covid. “We expect to see a turnaround in the number of people renovating homes.

Appliance Retailer December 2025

“This will provide higher demand within retailer environments.” And the construction industry is expected to cycle back up too, presenting a substantial opportunity for growth in the commercial space. “Our focus remains on using the strength of our brand and product portfolio to capture this demand across both channels,” he said. When it comes to sustainability initiatives the ongoing work being conducted by the Coalition of Sustainable Solutions (COFOSS), which BSH is a founding member, comes with an overall aim to significantly reduce the environmental impacts of the consumer electronic and home appliance industry. “Together with manufacturers and retailers from across Australia, we are collaboratively driving progress on packaging and product stewardship, promoting behavioural change, and proactively engaging with policymakers to secure a nationally consistent regulatory framework for a circular economy.” AR

This year has been about building strong foundations for the business.

Guy Nicholls Group Managing Director Billi

“2025 HAS BEEN particularly meaningful, and one of the major personal highlights has been guiding the development of our new headquarters and manufacturing facility in the Reservoir Business Hub in Melbourne. It is a significant milestone for the business and represents a clear investment in our future. With our office teams scheduled to move in early December, we are approaching an important moment that will support the next stage of our growth,” Guy Nicholls said. “The most rewarding aspect has been shaping the vision for what this new site will enable. The facility brings together manufacturing, training and customer engagement in a purpose-built environment, while creating space for closer collaboration across the business. Even before the full move in, it has already provided a strong sense of direction and momentum, and sustainability

has been considered throughout the project. The site sits within a Five Star Green Star precinct and includes features such as solar panels, rainwater collection, LED lighting and electric vehicle charging. These elements reflect values that are important to our teams and to the wider community and help ensure we are building for the long term,” he said. Another highlight has been reconnecting closely with its teams, retailers and commercial partners. “Their insights have shaped many of our priorities and helped ensure our decision making remains grounded in real needs and expectations. “Supporting the delivery of the new headquarters and preparing for the final stage of the move has been the most meaningful part of my role. It marks a pivotal step forward and gives me great confidence in the direction we are heading,” Nicholls said. AR

For TCL, 2025 was a year when the realities of the economy shaped consumer behaviour. With less disposable income and rising living costs, every purchase became a considered one, with customers looking for value, not the cheapest option, but products that delivered more for their money.

Jason Carrick General Manager – Sales TCL

“THIS SENTIMENT ALIGNS strongly with the TCL brand as we continue to offer genuine value across all segments, from some of the most premium products in the market to accessible entry-level options,” Jason Carrick said. And 2025 has been defined by the strength of its most premium offerings. “Products like the C8K and X11 have resonated strongly with consumers, demonstrating that premium buyers are actively seeking exceptional value at the top end of the market. We are strengthening our presence through major partnerships with the AFL, the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 2025. “These strategic brand investments have elevated TCL’s visibility and helped position us as a more considered choice when customers walk into stores. Combined with our new premium models and the significant brand momentum generated throughout 2025, TCL has become one of the few brands to achieve growth in a challenging market,” he said. ‘ By embracing new challenges and expanding into new product lines including fridges, laundry and air conditioning.”

For TCL the biggest opportunities will come from deepening its collaboration with retail partners and continuing to invest in segments where consumer demand is strongest, and that includes substantial potential from big screen TVs and expanding its premium range across all categories. “Today’s market demands more information and product knowledge than ever before when making considered purchases. For TCL and the broader industry, the key learning is that we must do better at showing customers why our products offer the best value for their money.” Sustainability is also a key focus for TCL and with a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, by implementing a range of initiatives globally to support a more sustainable future that includes running its factories on solar power, building water treatment plants to service the head office and factories, using recycled plastics in its TVs and remote controls, partnering with local porcelain manufacturers to recycle waste into reusable materials and improving product packaging. New data from Ipos iris revealed that nearly 17 million Australians played online games in June 2025, and use is growing steadily nationally, up 3.9%, with 36% of households owning a gaming console. 64

And almost eight in 10 Australians aged over 14 used a games website or app on a computer, mobile or tablet, spending on average 20 minutes a day playing games. However, those aged 55 to 64 spend more time playing online games – 19 hours a month – more than any other age group. Globally gaming shipments are predicted to increase by around 6% in 2025, driven by the growing popularity of gaming PCs, according to the latest gaming data from the International Data Corporation. Also, sales for premium gaming monitors are set for growth, fuelled by demand for better display technology and higher refresh rates. Artificial intelligence is making its presence felt in game development too, with tools such as ChatGPT speeding up content creation.

ANKER INNOVATIONS Marcus Tomczak Head of Brand ANZ

“Gaming remains a key niche category for our accessories in the ANZ market, with a total market value of over $A450m for gaming accessories, and with accelerated growth projected, Anker is looking at ways that our products can augment this market in the forthcoming years,” Marcus Tomczak said. “Products like our new Anker Prime Docking Station, which features Display Link, with the ability to extend up to three displays from a laptop device, and the affordable Anker Laptop Power Bank helps keep a handheld device powered for longer play into this augmentation strategy.” He said there is a renewed push towards handheld gaming too. “With faster mobile internet speed, and reliable mobile satellite products hitting the market, handheld gaming, which has been classically locked out of online gaming due to speed limitations in the Australian market, is growing at an exponential rate. This is demonstrated through the category expansion over the past 24 months, with products like the PlayStation portal, the Nintendo Switch 2, and the Microsoft licensed ROG Xbox Ally X hitting the market in addition to existing handheld entrants. We have seen around a 3.5% CAGR for the gaming accessories category for the past couple of years and our projections have that number increasing anywhere up to 5% depending on an effective upgrade cycle over the forthcoming periods.” The Anker Laptop Power Bank has become a favourite to power handheld devices and with a retractable USB-C cable there is no need to carry a cable with the device making it a perfect backpack addition for the mobile gamer. “Additionally, we have multiple new Anker Prime products to suit gamers with a docking station that can extend displays across multiple screens using DisplayLink technology without the addition of graphics processors,” Tomczak said. The new Anker Prime Power Bank charges handheld gaming devices even faster, charging multiple high-powered devices at once, while the soon to be released Anker Prime Charger powers three devices at once. “This is especially useful for travelling gamers using a gaming laptop but also being able to charge a gaming accessory and mobile device consecutively. “We’re looking at new and different ways we can collaborate with the gaming and entertainment industry. Internationally, Anker Innovations has collaborated with developer Game Science

Tomczak believes the gaming industry has lost some of the key ‘experience driven’ moments that gave the industry its original appeal. “The US did a fantastic job of positioning gaming as a casual hobby as opposed to a lifestyle that has given us the behemoth that is the gaming industry today and we need to find some of those key experience driven moments that allow us to bring the industry together.” AR www.applianceretailer.com.au

HP

Liam Mayne Consumer Gaming & Category Manager – ANZ The market for PC Gaming Hardware is up 15% YoY (+17ku) and 5% on the previous quarter, which tells us the segment is still in stable growth, the latest CQ3 IDC data shows. And HP is currently growing ahead of the market at +18% YoY, according to Liam Mayne. Over the past year, gaming has moved further into everyday life. “We’re seeing more customers choose gamingclass laptops and desktops as all-purpose machines; for play, content creation, and hybrid work, because the same high-performance components that power games also speed up creative apps and heavy multitasking.” Three shifts stand out: Work–play convergence – buyers want one device that can game at night and handle creative workflows or video calls by day; Ecosystem expectations - customers value “better together” setups where devices and accessories connect quickly; and Friction-free switching – “keep-it-simple wins,” he said. HP have continued to expand and refine its gaming ecosystem hardware plus peripherals, so gamers and creators get fast setup and a unified experience, with the HyperX Cloud III Wireless a hero headset in its lineup. 66

ACER

Gaba Cheng Managing Director – Oceanic The PC gaming category has continued to perform strongly over the past year, supported by engagement across diverse player demographics and sustained consumer demand. “This increasing engagement, paired with ongoing demand for high-performance devices to support modern video games has helped drive consistent momentum across the PC gaming hardware category,” Gaba Cheng said. PC gamers are increasingly expecting systems that adapt to their individual play styles, with AI taking a key role in shaping both performance and experience. Across the industry, AI is influencing how newer devices manage performance, enabling smarter optimisation, more responsive settings and increasingly personalised game worlds. “These AI-driven trends are redefining what ‘high performance’ means today, influencing not just how games are played, but also how consumers evaluate and choose their next gaming device,” he said. Uptake in portable gaming continues to grow too, with laptops and handhelds appealing to younger audiences seeking flexibility without compromising on performance. Sustainability is an ongoing consideration, with consumers increasingly gravitating toward brands that resonate with their values. “Acer’s Earthion initiative is seeing us innovate across product design and packaging, amongst other strategies, with the goal of reducing environmental impact via sustainability-focused solutions.” Esports are also becoming more popular, creating new opportunities for community engagement and career pathways. “Predator Gaming continues to support the local esports industry, with local ANZ qualifiers having just wrapped for the Asia Pacific Predator League 2026 Grand Finals, set to take place in India in early 2026 and we wish team ANZ well!” Over the past year, Acer and Predator Gaming has enhanced its offering in the PC gaming category via a range of refreshed products. LG

Poh Lee Koh Marketing Manager – Information Technology Over the past year, gaming in Australia has continued to show strong, steady momentum. On the development side, the local industry has also been remarkably resilient. Federal Government support has played a key role too, with the Digital Games Tax Offset (DGTO), which provides a 30% refundable tax offset for eligible Australian development expenditure has helped attract investment. On the consumer side, spending reached A$3.8 billion in 2024. While hardware and fullgame sales dipped, subscriptions grew by 16% and in-game purchases rose by 7% according to IGEA market review data. “It’s a clear indication that Australians are investing more in ongoing, premium experiences rather than one-off purchases,” Poh Lee Koh said. “Taken together, it paints a compelling picture: gaming in Australia is large, diverse and continuing to grow, supported by strong consumer engagement, a globally competitive development sector, and a shift towards digital-first spending. “Over the last 12 months, we’ve seen the gaming landscape in Australia evolve around three clear behaviours. First, cloud gaming and subscription services have started to take off. Faster broadband and the continued rollout of 5G are making it easier for players to stream high-quality titles, and the model is becoming increasingly attractive, giving gamers access to huge libraries without the traditional hardware investment.

LG UltraGear OLED Dual-Mode Gaming Monitor 45GX950A

`A world first 5K2K curved OLED for a more immersive gaming experience that delivers a 34% wider view than a standard 16:9 display `Dynamic Dual-Mode functionality with high-resolution visuals for a more flexible performance based on game type `0.03ms (GtG) response time to achieve precision in fast-moving scenes that minimise ghosting and motion blur `VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification with enhanced visual depth and accurate colour representation `Seamless connectivity and user-centric design for a complete gaming setup for easy connection and device charging RRP: $2,999

Globally, cloud gaming is forecast to grow strongly too, with some markets projecting more than 20% CAGR through 2030, and Australia is benefiting from that broader shift. We saw this reflected locally with the cloud gaming market projected to reach $238 million in 2025 and subscription spending growing 16% in 2024. And while full-game sales declined, it shows how much players value flexibility and ongoing access,” she said. At the same time, demand for high-performance displays has surged. Gamers aren’t just looking for bigger screens, they want OLED-quality immersion with lifelike colour, deep blacks and minimal input lag. “Technologies like DCI-P3 98.5% colour coverage, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 and response times as low as 0.03ms (GtG) have become expected features in premium monitors. You can see that trend in the interest around 480Hz-class monitors, which bring a noticeable competitive edge, particularly for fastaction genres.” Australian game development studios generated A$339.1 million in FY2024, with 93% of revenue from exports. And employment in the sector remains strong, with 2,465 full-time roles recorded last year and 61% of local studios expected to hire in 2025, signalling continued confidence. “Consumer spending tells the same story of maturity and transition with Australians spending A$3.8 billion on games and related hardware in 2024. Although hardware and full-game purchases dipped, the gap was more than offset by digital and ongoing models, and subscriptions were up 16% and in-game purchases grew 7%. Combined with 77% of players engaged socially, the data reflects a category that is not only large, but evolving quickly toward convenience, connection and premium experiences. We are seeing a strong appetite for premium gaming experiences, especially when it comes to visuals and responsiveness. “Gamers are prioritising displays that deliver lifelike colour, deep contrast, ultra-fast refresh rates and minimal latency, all the elements that make games feel more immersive and competitive,” she said. “And this is where LG’s UltraGear OLED range delivers its value. OLED gives gamers the blend of speed, clarity and depth they’re looking for, whether they’re chasing the edge in competitive play or wanting a more cinematic experience in story-driven titles. For retailers, this means there’s a real opportunity in helping customers understand the difference that a high-performance display can make to their setup.” AR

SAMSUNG

Shane Cook Head of Display & Brand Memory The gaming category has continued its strong upward trajectory over the past year, building on steady growth that began in 2022. “In 2025, we saw sustained demand for high-performance gaming monitors driven by the rise in next generation IT components such as GPUs, and new gaming consoles which has helped fuel enthusiast gaming as a passion across the nation,” Shane Cook said. As next generation components power faster streaming and support games with new levels of immersive graphics, demand for gaming monitors with fast refresh rates and high PPI density is increasing. “Our 2025 OLED Odyssey range has performed well, maintaining its status as the number one gaming monitor brand in Australia for the third year, complementing Samsung’s sixyear streak as global category leader.” From a Samsung perspective, among trends that influenced the category were that mainstream gaming adoption continues to surge. “Clearly gaming is now a lifestyle activity with consumers wanting quality displays without complexity, that is driving interest in fast, intuitive, premium hardware,” he said. Immersion and realism are also driving choice as consumers seek lifelike visuals, faster refresh rates, and more responsive gameplay while interest in cloud and streamed gaming continues to rise. And over one-third of Australians gamers play weekly, many playing for relaxation rather than competition. These shifts reflect a broader trend, “that Australians are investing in hardware that is progressive, innovative, and enhances their overall lifestyle not just their gaming performance.” Cook said 2025 was a significant year for Samsung’s gaming portfolio with the launch of next-gen Odyssey Gaming monitors that showcased immersive 3D and OLED. The Odyssey 3D G90XF 27-inch monitor with a groundbreaking 3D gaming experience does not require dedicated glasses. Advanced eye-tracking technology and a proprietary lenticular lens deliver a high-definition 3D image, accessible through the Odyssey 3D Hub app that brings new energy and immersion to selected games and video content. It also features AI video conversion, which can transform video content into 3D with less eye strain. He said his message to retailers is that Samsung enables Australians to game their way. “We’ve built an ecosystem that supports gamers of every level, from casual players seeking relaxation, to competitive gamers demanding world-class

responsiveness. While Samsung offers premium, high-performance products, our range includes accessible options at various price points, all elevated by built-in experiences such as Samsung Gaming Hub and Xbox Game Pass. “Consumers increasingly want devices that are capable, connected, and future-ready. With graphic card standards evolving and cloud gaming accelerating, Samsung products across Smart TVs, Odyssey monitors, and Galaxy devices are designed to meet and exceed the expectations of the modern gamer. We encourage retailers to highlight the value of the Samsung ecosystem, not just individual devices. When consumers understand the simplicity and continuity of gaming across Samsung screens, they see the full potential of what their investment unlocks,” Cook said. AR www.applianceretailer.com.au

LENOVO

Maroun El Khoury General Manager - Consumer “There have been several interesting trends coming out of the gaming category over the last 12 months,” Maroun El Khoury said. “As game creation becomes more accessible Australian gamers are moving away from being only consumers to consumer-creators. The success of indie studio games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and increased investment in the gaming industry, via the Digital Games Tax Offset and Screen Australia’s allocation of A$1.4 million, has enabled more Australians to explore a career in game development than ever before,” he said. An IGEA game development survey reported that revenue generated by Australian game developers has increased 200% since 2016. “We have seen the shift of content creation becoming one of the factors within the PC purchase decision making process, however it has grown to include game creation as a consideration. The growth of on-the-go gaming between 2023 and 2025 saw the portable gaming segment continue to increase, indicated by IGEA research. It shows that gaming is no longer a hobby locked to a couch or a desk, instead it has been adopted into our daily routine which can be enjoyed anywhere and anytime. “Lenovo are designing products which help people save time, create comfort, convenience, and stronger connections in daily life.
