Beyond buying power
he voluntary administration of Leading Edge Group, which was part of Australia’s independent retail sector for 40 years, marks a significant moment for the industry.
Like many businesses, the group faced an environment defined by rising operating costs, subdued consumer spending, digital disruption and increasingly complex supply chains. These are challenges confronting retailers across every category, and few would argue that they have not contributed to the pressure on traditional buying groups. However, can we attribute the group’s collapse solely to market conditions? Retail is cyclical. Economic headwinds come and go and businesses that survive don’t avoid disruption; they adapt to it. Did Leading Edge Group evolve quickly enough as the role of buying groups changed? Was its value proposition keeping pace with a retail landscape increasingly driven by technology, data, omnichannel capability and customer experience rather than purchasing power alone? Were its cost structures, governance and investment priorities aligned with the changing needs of its members? Perhaps most importantly, was the business generating sufficient value for retailers to justify its place in an increasingly competitive ecosystem? Buying groups were built for an era where scale delivered a clear competitive advantage. By aggregating purchasing

power, independent retailers could negotiate better supplier terms and compete against national chains. But the retail battlefield has shifted. Price remains important, yet consumers increasingly value convenience, seamless digital experiences, personalised service and rapid fulfilment. These are capabilities that require significant investment in technology, data and logistics; not simply stronger purchasing agreements. Buying groups remain an important part of the local retail landscape, but their future success depends on delivering far more than collective purchasing power. They must become technology partners, data partners, education providers and strategic advisers, helping independent retailers compete in a market where scale alone is no longer enough. The administrators will ultimately reveal the circumstances behind the collapse, but until then, perhaps the most valuable conversation is not who or what to blame, but what lessons the industry should take from it. External forces can’t always be controlled, but strategy, leadership and the willingness to reinvent a business model can.

Anthony Heraghty commences as new Winning CEO Anthony Heraghty has commenced as the new CEO of Winning Group. Heraghty replaces John Winning Jnr who announced he was stepping down in April. Over a period of 10 years, Heraghty was previously managing director, group managing director and chief executive officer at Super Retail Group and stepped down last year after an alleged affair. Super Retail Group is the parent company of Supercheap Auto, Rebel, Macpac and BCF. Heraghty has wasted no time settling in with a town hall meeting called at the Redfern store in Sydney before immediately travelling to visit the business’ operations at Fortitude Valley in Brisbane later the same day.
Winning Appliances staff that attended the company meeting told Appliance Retailer they were highly motivated by the energy of the new chief executive. “It was a very positive and optimistic meeting,” one Winning employee told Appliance Retailer. “The primary reason for the meeting was to introduce himself to the company and also share some of his background. He was an excellent communicator and he also made it clear to us that he is here to listen and understand the business.” It continues to be a slightly tumultuous time at Winning Appliances with the head of the Winning Academy training facility, Chris Tan leaving his role, resulting in a reset for this division of the business that was opened in 2019.
The head of Winning Appliances and Winning Services in Western Australia, Tim Collings has expanded his role to include Victoria and Queensland territories, while Northmead showroom manager, Lyndsey Richardson has been appointed to a new role of head of national retail performance.
LEADING EDGE GROUP ENTERS VOLUNTARY ADMINISTRATION Leading Edge Group (LEG) has appointed a voluntary administrator to assess the company’s affairs and find options that will strengthen the financial position of the Australian business. “After careful consideration, the board has resolved to appoint a voluntary administrator to the company. This decision follows many months of exploring every realistic option to strengthen the financial position of the Australian business,” Leading Edge Group chair, Peter Knock said in a letter to members. “Throughout that period, the board and management worked closely with professional advisers to pursue capital raising opportunities, strategic partnerships, restructuring initiatives, cost reductions and asset sale options. While significant progress was made in a number of areas, the board has concluded that voluntary administration is the most responsible course of action. “Over recent years, the Australian retail sector has experienced one of the most prolonged and challenging trading environments in decades. Rising interest rates, persistent costof-living pressures, reduced consumer discretionary spending, escalating operating costs and intense competition from large national chains and online retailers have placed significant pressure on independent businesses across the country. 6
Appliance Retailer August / September 2026
“Many of our members have seen trading volumes decline, reduced their participation in buying group programs as they sought to preserve cash, or, in some cases, made the difficult decision to close their businesses altogether. These broader market conditions have had a direct impact on Leading Edge Group’s revenue base and financial performance, despite the continued loyalty and commitment of our members, suppliers and employees. “The appointment of an administrator does not automatically mean the business will cease operating. One of the administrator’s first responsibilities will be to assess the company’s affairs and determine the course of action that delivers the best outcome for creditors and stakeholders. Options may include continuing to trade parts of the business, restructuring operations or facilitating the sale of business units. “On behalf of the board, I want to thank every member for your support, loyalty and partnership over many years. Whatever the outcome, we remain committed to assisting the administrator in achieving the best possible result for members, employees, suppliers, creditors and shareholders. Thank you for your continued support.”

rom a built-in vacuum and mopping robot that disappears seamlessly into the kitchen to AI-powered ovens that recognise what you’re cooking, BSH is redefining the role of home appliances through purposeful innovation. Backed by record investment in research and development, BSH is combining cutting-edge technology with quality, reliability and customer service to create smart, long-lasting products that deliver genuine benefits for consumers while creating new opportunities for retail partners. Appliance Retailer sat down with BSH CEO, Dr Matthias Metz during the EuroCucina exhibition in Milan to discuss how the company is reinforcing its commitment to shaping the future of the connected kitchen through innovation that enhances everyday life.
system to make it effortless to clean your house or apartment provides a real benefit in consumers’ lives.” The response from consumers and customers is that the concept solves a lot of issues because it is easy to integrate with a short installation time and not too many requirements. “Using our market leading expertise in dishwashing provided the food for thought to integrate the robot into the kitchen. I think it is a good thing that we have teamed up with Ecovacs to make the experience even better and that is the reason behind this collaboration,” Metz said. “It is important that when we develop appliances, we provide a great experience without disturbing your life in the kitchen. The modern kitchen is now also a living space to enjoy with friends and family – and it’s important that it looks good, too.”

TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENT AND AI
Bosch, in partnership with Ecovacs, presented a worldfirst with its built-in vacuum and mopping robot, setting new standards for household cleaning and home aesthetics. “The collaboration with Ecovacs combines the technological power in the robot with our built-in expertise and underlines our ambition to be a market shaper and to provide not only great experiences to consumers, but also great opportunities to our retail customers,” Metz said. “To have the ability for this product to be fully built-in and disappear in the kitchen is about having a seamless kitchen experience. To have an invisible robot integrated into the kitchen and connected to the water 8

In 2025, BSH invested record levels into research and development (R&D) – up to 850 million Euros – representing 5.6% of global turnover, which highlights the company’s focus on the future, according to Metz. “Our investment in innovation not only includes the outcome you expect from your appliance such as how clean the dishes are in your dishwasher, it is also about how you interact with the appliance, such as voice control and the ability to use AI to talk to your appliance and have an even better experience,” he said. However, BSH does not want to be perceived as a company that is investing into AI for its own sake, but deploying AI specifically to make better experiences possible.
NEWS AR “For example, we have an oven that is now able to recognise 100 different dishes using a builtin camera powered by AI. When this product was first launched it was 40 dishes, then 80 and now over 100 dishes and growing. Connectivity provides a real benefit over time because of software upgrades and the appliance becomes better through learning. “It also shows the products that are connected are upgrading and improving over time, and this journey would not be possible without this technology because AI helps to recognise the products that are in the oven. AI also understands the condition of the food – is it undercooked, well done, or somewhere in between – and the end result helps us to make great chefs globally. “For example, if you are not a chef and don’t make the same chicken dish or pizza recipe every day, our oven assists you and makes life easier as it reduces the amount of time required to find all of the important functions required to produce the perfect result and also makes it a great consumer experience. “We have an oven that is available in China – and soon available globally – that consumers can talk to. This is also supported by AI and makes voice recognition possible and helps the product understand you. We believe it is easier to talk to the oven rather than touch buttons, and it enhances the experience and brings user interactivity to another level and shows how we deploy technology and invest in innovation.” Metz believes the big advantage with the development and introduction of these products delivering true innovation is providing an opportunity for retail customers to talk to consumers about replacement and upgrading products. “Another important thing to remember is technology will also make products become intelligent companions – or true buddies – for consumers in the future. We genuinely believe that great appliances will transform into friends in the kitchen to help and support you achieve great results and like a true friend will always be there to help you get a job done when asked,” he said.
Siemens is launching a new Matte Edition cooking collection spanning ovens, induction cooktops and rangehoods, combining intelligent technology with a premium scratch-resistant matte finish designed to elevate modern kitchen design.
BSH CEO, Dr Matthias Metz.
“AI and digitisation are making this new technology now possible. This is innovation that manufacturers did not think was possible four or five years ago, so we are in exciting times. BSH is in the perfect position to play a market shaper role because at the end of the day it is about combining the traditional values of quality, technology, heritage, reliability and brand experience with the new digital opportunities from AI that are possible today and which will also come in the future. That is why we have invested so heavily and as a result we are confident about the future and we have a clear plan about how to move forward and how to make those times exciting for everybody – for customers, consumers and for us.”
SIEMENS RE-LAUNCH
In Q3 this year, Siemens is launching a range of new ovens and cooktops, re-entering the laundry care category, as well as transitioning to an agency model and expanding its retail distribution. “This will allow more consumers and retail customers to experience the great products in the range with a distinct differentiation including user interface (UI), user experience (UX) as well as colours and intelligence that delights,” Metz said. “The Siemens brand really walks the talk and this launch will be a great success and help our retail partners to succeed. The Siemens customer is someone who loves technology and understands intelligence that delights so we are creating great products to fulfil this brand promise. “BSH loves the Australian market and we are fortunate to have a strong team managing the business. We would like to thank the retailers for their trust and support and we will continue to develop innovative, high quality products backed by great service and everything focused on bringing a great experience to ensure we will continue to be stronger moving forward.” AR www.applianceretailer.com.au

A new era for Siemens in Australia
iemens is entering a new phase in Australia, building on the strong foundation established with its retail partners, while pursuing broader growth opportunities for the brand. While Siemens will continue investing in its retail relationships, it is transitioning to an agency model and growing its retail footprint to make its appliances more widely available. “This is an exciting new chapter for Siemens in Australia. We’ve enjoyed wonderful support from our retail partners over many years, who are passionate about the brand and have absolutely represented it in the right way. We’ll continue to grow those partnerships while being more ambitious around the scale and future opportunity for Siemens,” BSH Home Appliances Australia & New Zealand Head of Marketing, Roberto Finamore said. “Transitioning to the agency model and expanding our retail footprint is a critical part of that and we’re delighted to welcome new partners on board.” The expanded retail network will be supported by a stronger brand proposition and a broader product portfolio. New launches include Matte Edition ovens and induction cooktops, the world’s first steam drawer, as well as a re-entry into the laundry care category, reinforcing the brand’s focus on cuttingedge technology, premium design and an exceptional user experience.
NEW MATTE EDITION APPLIANCES
The new Matte Edition collection spans ovens, induction cooktops and rangehoods, combining intelligent technology with a premium scratchresistant matte finish designed to elevate modern kitchen design. 10
Siemens new premium laundry range.
Leading the range is the iQ700 Matte Edition oven, which uses a built-in camera and AI-powered food recognition to identify up to 100 dishes and recommend optimal cooking settings, including browning levels. The matte finish is available across conventional, combination and steam ovens. The inductionAir Plus Matte Edition cooktop combines precise heating, powerful ventilation, and a premium matte look. Its micro-textured matte glass conceals fingerprints, reduces glare and makes scratches up to five times less visible than glossy ceramic glass, while remaining easy to clean. Through the Siemens Home Appliances app, users can monitor temperatures, access recipes and save favourite settings. Completing the collection is the Matte Edition inclined rangehood, which automatically adjusts extraction levels during cooking. Featuring a hinged glass panel, discreet touch controls and a matching matte finish, it delivers quiet performance while maintaining a cohesive kitchen aesthetic. BSH Category Manager Surface Cooking and Ventilation, Franklin Percy said the Matte Edition range balances design with everyday practicality. “Matte cooktop glass is a perfect melding of function and form, offering a surface that is easier to keep clean, more resistant to visible scratches and refined in appearance,” he said. “Research shows induction owners upgrading their appliances strongly prefer scratch-resistant surfaces, making durability a key purchase driver, while extending the matte finish across ovens, cooktops and rangehoods creates a cohesive premium design.”

WORLD-FIRST STEAM DRAWER
Siemens is also introducing the world’s first steam drawer, offering full steam cooking in a compact, space-saving format. With a 10-litre capacity and temperatures ranging from 30°C to 100°C, the appliance includes pre-programmed cooking modes, and app connectivity for remote operation and personalised settings. It can be installed beneath a 60cm or 45cm oven or used as a standalone built-in unit beneath the countertop. BSH Category Manager Cooking – Bosch, Neff and Siemens, Christine Haas said the innovation maximises functionality without compromising space. “When paired with a 45cm compact oven in a standard 60cm cavity, it creates the ultimate culinary powerhouse, combining professional-grade steam cooking with rapid heating for unmatched versatility,” she said.
PREMIUM LAUNDRY
Completing the announcement, Siemens is re-entering the Australian laundry care market with a new range designed to combine intelligent technology with the brand’s signature minimalist aesthetic. BSH Category Manager Laundry Care, Anthony Wells said the re-launch reflects growing demand for appliances that deliver both performance and design. “With this re-launch, we are delivering intelligent, beautifully crafted solutions that seamlessly transform the laundry from a chore into a lifestyle experience,” he said. As Germany’s number one home appliance brand, Siemens retail partners can expect a strong pipeline of future innovations as BSH invests further into the brand both globally and locally. AR

Tefal celebrates 70 years of innovation Tefal has celebrated its 70th anniversary by bringing together retail partners, media and influencers at an exclusive Sydney event held on Bastille Day (14 July), showcasing the brand’s expanded product portfolio while paying homage to its French heritage. The event highlighted Tefal’s evolution from a cookware brand to diversified small appliances, spanning kitchen benchtop, floorcare and garment care. Tefal also unveiled its new brand promise: ‘Smarter Together’, which will underpin future product innovation, marketing and retail collaboration. Addressing attendees, Groupe SEB managing director Joe Tizzone said, “Tonight is a special and unique moment for the Tefal brand, and we wanted to share it with the people who have contributed to our success and made us who we are today.” Tizzone noted the significance of celebrating the milestone on Bastille Day, describing it as a fitting reminder of the French heritage that continues to shape the Tefal brand. He reflected on the company’s origins, recounting how French engineer Marc Grégoire’s experimentation with a low-friction coating in the mid-1950s, inspired by a suggestion from his wife, led to the development of the world’s first non-stick frying pan and the launch of Tefal. While cookware remains synonymous with the brand, Tizzone said Tefal’s continued success has been built on solving everyday consumer problems through practical innovation. “It’s often the simplest ideas that turn into your biggest innovations,” he said. “From the Ingenio removable handle and thermo-signal technology through to our expanding range of small appliances, our focus has always been on making everyday life easier.” That innovation strategy has enabled Tefal to broaden its presence well beyond cookware, with the company now competing across multiple categories throughout the home.
Groupe SEB Australia team at the Tefal event.
“Today Tefal is much more than a cookware brand,” Tizzone said. “We are helping consumers in almost every room of the home, from preparing meals in the kitchen to caring for clothes and cleaning floors.” Tizzone also highlighted the commercial success of the brand’s long-standing partnership with celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, which has now exceeded 30 million units sold globally. “For more than 20 years we have shared the belief that cooking at home should be simple, enjoyable and accessible. It’s a partnership we are incredibly proud of.” Looking ahead, Tizzone said the new ‘Smarter Together’ brand promise reflects not only Tefal’s approach to product development but also its commitment to strengthening relationships across the retail channel. “You’ll see ‘Smarter Together’ becoming increasingly visible in our communications. It reflects how we innovate, how we work with our partners and how we continue to develop products that make life easier and better for consumers.”

“Following the recently announced changes to negative gearing and capital gains, we expect more consumers will be investing in their principal place of residence as the greatest tax-free property asset. The Cooking Expo helps our retail floor staff improve their baseline capability and readiness for when customers come into our stores and want to purchase major appliances featuring the latest technology and innovation.” Evans acknowledged the support from suppliers who participated in the Harvey Norman Cooking Expo. “We wouldn’t be able to do these events without the suppliers – it is very much a partnership. Despite the breadth of our store network, we are able to bring in floor staff members from the farthest locations in Australia to receive hands-on training. We are very appreciative for everything the suppliers do to be here and the costs involved. Each year we try to refine the Expo and improve the experience for everyone,” Evans said. Coen confirmed that Harvey Norman remain committed to the Cooking Expo concept for the future. “We have a proof of concept now in year three. The suppliers have seen the results from the previous Expos and they continue to raise the bar with their investment. It is an acknowledgement that as a retailer we do cooking very well and we can only do it this well with the support of our partners. This ensures our staff are as well trained as possible and the suppliers clearly see this is an important vehicle to achieve that outcome which is fantastic,” Coen said. AR RETAIL PROFILE
Launch of the ‘new’ existing premises in 1984.
The Rawsons showroom today.
Rawsons reflects on 80 years
From electrical contractor to independent retail powerhouse From its origins as a local electrical contractor to a multi-faceted retail and trade powerhouse specialising in kitchen, laundry, bathroom and outdoor appliances in today’s market, Rawsons stands as a testament to what a family business can achieve through vision, adaptability and an unwavering commitment to the customer. Throughout its 80-year history, Rawsons has remained truly independent; free from buying groups and trade associations. Founded by the late Ken Rawson on July 1, 1946, on returning home from WWII, a modest electrical contracting and servicing operation was established, building a reputation for quality workmanship and honest dealings with customers across the metropolitan area. Ken was soon joined by his brother Don, bringing strong financial acumen. In the early decades, the company focused primarily on electrical installation and repair work, at a time when electrical technology was rapidly transforming everyday life. A pivotal moment in Rawsons journey was the relocation and establishment of its headquarters on Crossroads, Plympton – a prominent and accessible site to serve a growing customer base. It provided the space and visibility needed to evolve from a purely trade-focused operation into a destination for Adelaide consumers seeking expert electrical advice and quality products. In 1984, Rawsons expanded into retail with the launch of its appliance 18
showroom at Plympton. What began as a complementary offering to the electrical services business quickly developed into a cornerstone of Rawsons identity. The showroom gave Adelaide residents a place to browse, compare and purchase home appliances backed by genuine product knowledge. Rawsons further strengthened its market position through the strategic acquisition of Elite Appliances, a respected competitor in the South Australian market. By absorbing Elite’s customer base, product lines and expertise, Rawsons became Adelaide’s leading independent appliance specialists. The creation of a direct-import arm, Appliance Sales Direct, saw Rawsons become the exclusive Australian importer of Teka Appliances from Spain. By bypassing the traditional wholesale chain, Rawsons was able to offer European appliance quality at highly competitive prices, which set the business apart in an increasingly crowded market. The Plympton showroom has become home to a number of firsts and exclusives. Rawsons opened Adelaide’s first dedicated Weber Store and housed Australia’s only exclusive Gessi Italian bathroom showroom, delivering designer European bathroom solutions. Plympton is also home to Adelaide’s only Miele Partner Centre, offering customers the full breadth of Miele’s appliance range, and soon to include Miele DREAMS outdoor kitchens and BBQs. In addition, Rawsons operates

one of Australia’s leading Ignite Electric Fire Studios, showcasing the finest in contemporary electric fireplace design. Rawsons also created a world-first Haier Home Solution Centre – a concept entirely unique in Australia that allows customers to see the full breadth of Haier Appliances, including solar, battery, air conditioning, heat pump hot water, and kitchen and laundry appliances. Beyond its consumer showrooms, Rawsons operates a dedicated Businessto-Business Selection Centre from Unley Road, catering to builders, developers, interior designers and trade professionals, who require a curated, expert environment to specify appliances and fittings for residential and commercial projects. The Plympton headquarters also hosts Adelaide’s largest outdoor alfresco kitchen studio where customers can explore the full spectrum of outdoor cooking and entertaining solutions. From built-in barbecues and pizza ovens to complete kitchen configurations, the studio is unmatched in scope and expertise in South Australia. Complementing this, Rawsons carries Adelaide’s biggest range of YETI products including performance coolers, drinkware and outdoor gear. AR

The broader Australian kitchen appliances market reached approximately A$4.29 billion as of 2025, with
growth expected to increase the figure to A$5.22 billion by 2030, reflecting sustained demand for products that combine performance, efficiency and design with three trends shaping the category – integrated kitchen design, energy efficiency and smart home. The smart home market was forecast to reach approximately A$3.42 billion, as of 2025, growing at a CAGR of 8.04% through 2035, according to an Energy Consumers Australia report.

Christine Haas Category Manager ANZ
While the cooking market has remained tough, the oven category is performing strongly, motivated by a strong replacement market and a shift towards cooking at home, due to rising cost-of-living pressures. Rather than cluttering benchtop space with singleuse appliances, consumers want ovens that “do it all”, with built-in Air Fry and steam functionalities specifically. In the oven range Bosch offers appliances with microwave, steam and/or Air Fry functions, alongside traditional baking and cooking functions, Christine Haas said. “Air frying has evolved from a trend to a staple cooking method in Australian households. Bosch Series 6 and 8 ovens feature a dedicated, preheatfree Air Fry function paired with a dishwasher safe Air Fry tray. And heavy scrubbing remains a top consumer pain point. Bosch has resolved this with its pyrolytic self-cleaning technology in their ovens, with dishwasher-safe trivets on gas cooktops and easy wipe induction cooktops.” As health-conscious cooking and artisan baking continue to dominate Australian kitchens, steam is also a sought-after capability. Whether it is added steam to prevent roasts from drying out, or Full Steam Function Plus for nutrient retention. “We are launching the world’s first steam drawer under our Siemens and Neff brands. a standard 60cm cavity, it creates the ultimate culinary powerhouse, delivering professionalgrade, nutrient-retaining steam cooking alongside rapid microwave heating for unmatched versatility in a single, seamless design,” she said. “While smart features capture attention, consistent, even heat distribution remains the absolute non-negotiable expectation for consumers. Our advanced 3D HotAir and 4D HotAir on selected Series 8 systems utilise a bi-directional fan to distribute heat evenly across multiple shelves simultaneously. This guarantees flawless baking results regardless of where the tray is placed in the cavity.” Ovens that integrate diverse functions such as steam cooking and built-in air frying are highly sought after too, she said. Seamless design and smart TFT touch displays are no longer a premium luxury but becoming a baseline consumer expectation with sophisticated finishes, particularly matte black, growing in popularity. However, cost-of-living pressures are a challenge. “Within an environment shaped by high inflation and rising interest rates, price-sensitive consumers may delay replacement cycles or trade down to basic, conventional entry-level models, limiting the immediate volume growth of high-end lines.” AR

SMEG
Rodney Manauzzi Product Manager – MDA The oven and cooktop market delivered strong demand earlier in the year, although growth has moderated since May, according to SMEG, although ongoing cost-of-living pressures and weaker consumer sentiment has driven demand for appliances that offer greater functionality, convenience, and cooking performance, as more consumers eat and entertain at home. “As households invest in enhancing the athome cooking experience, we have observed a growing preference toward premium categories, particularly full steam ovens, pyrolytic ovens, and induction cooktops. This trend reflects the need for solutions that support both everyday meal preparation and more frequent home entertaining,” Rodney Manauzzi said. Full steam ovens are gaining popularity among consumers seeking to elevate their home cooking results. The SMEG OmniChef and Steam100 Pro ovens deliver restaurant-quality performance through precise steam control, enhancing flavour, texture, and nutrient retention, while providing greater versatility across a wide range of cooking techniques. 22

“Induction cooking delivers high heat output, instant responsiveness, and precise temperature control, enabling users to achieve better results with ease. In addition, it offers superior energy efficiency compared with traditional cooking technologies, making it an increasingly attractive choice for modern households.” With discretionary spending under pressure, SMEG has seen consumers become more selective and risk-averse in their purchasing decisions. They are not necessarily looking for the lowestpriced option, but rather the best long-term value and greater peace of mind. “SMEG has responded to these market conditions and will continue to position its premium products as investments that deliver lasting value. By communicating tangible consumer benefits, such as superior cooking performance, energy efficiency, convenience, and product longevity, while reinforcing confidence throughout the ownership experience, SMEG can continue to differentiate itself in the market,” Manauzzi said. “For decades, consumers have trusted SMEG for its reputation in design, performance, and quality, making the brand a natural choice for those seeking confidence and value in their appliance purchase.” AR

According to Jaber, the challenges are well known: cost-of-living pressure is extending renovation cycles and promotional intensity from challenger brands is compressing average selling prices at the entry level. “We keep innovating where consumers see genuine value in features they use every day, rather than competing on price alone.”
ELECTROLUX
Matthew Jaber Category Manager – Cooking “While renovation activity has been measured in the current economic environment, consumers are trading up which has supported value growth ahead of volume. Premium features that were once reserved for the top end, such as pyrolytic cleaning, steam-assisted cooking and integrated Air Fry, are now firmly mainstream expectations,” Mattthew Jaber said. “Consumers are prioritising three things: healthier everyday cooking, time saved, and effortless cleaning. Air Fry built into the oven cavity answers the first two as it removes the benchtop appliance and delivers crispy results for family-sized portions. “Westinghouse pioneered this in Australia with Air Fry now available across the range. Pyrolytic self-cleaning answers the third and remains one of the strongest trade-up drivers in the category and at the premium end, steam is the standout. Electrolux SteamBake and SteamRoast functions deliver bakery-quality results at home, while AEG’s SteamPro brings full sous-vide capability to the domestic kitchen. “The single biggest opportunity is the gas-toinduction transition and the second is packages: consumers renovating want a coordinated kitchen, and the attachment economics of selling an oven, a cooktop and a rangehood together are compelling for retailers.” 24

Electrolux recently hosted an Electrolux Steam Retreat for influencer partners for the launch of its new steam ovens. The ‘Steam When You Need It’ campaign focused on the benefits of steam cooking, intended to dispel the common myths around steam ovens. “We wanted to make steam more than a cooking function but a life aspiration, bringing together the emotional and sensory power of steam to life, not just in cooking but as a holistic lifestyle ritual,” Jaber said. Electrolux also launched the ‘Steam Debunked’ social series live across its channels with simple, practical messaging that tackles common misconceptions and highlights core product benefits in a relatable way. Consumers are looking for appliances that combine premium design, energy efficiency, ease of use and long-term value. LG
”
Shannon Tweedie Home Solutions Marketing Manager Despite cost-of-living pressures, the built-in cooking category has grown, supported by a continued investment in home improvement projects and premium kitchen upgrades, according to LG. Three key trends are shaping the category – integrated kitchen design, energy efficiency and smart home. Household appliances account for approximately 30% of residential energy consumption while the smart home market is forecast at approximately A$3.42 billion as of 2025, growing at a CAGR of 8.04% through to 2035, according to an Energy Consumers Australia report. “Consumers are looking for products that help them cook with greater confidence, consistency and convenience. They want professional-level cooking results without needing professional-level expertise,” Shannon Tweedie said “Features that simplify cooking, reduce guesswork and deliver reliable and consistet results are resonating strongly.”
With a growing focus on healthy eating across Australia, more households are seeking simple ways to prepare nutritious meals at home. “Steam cooking supports this shift by preserving natural nutrients and flavour without added oils or fats. Connectivity is also becoming increasingly relevant too.” Tweedie said one of the biggest opportunities for the sector is helping consumers understand the benefits of upgrading to modern cooking technologies as many households continue to use ageing appliances, creating significant opportunity for replacementled growth. Newer appliances focus on meaningful advancements in energy efficiency, cooking precision, connectivity and convenience that can deliver immediate benefits to consumers. “The challenge is that consumers are becoming more deliberate in their purchasing decisions. While the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported household spending increased 4.9% year-on-year in April 2026, households continue to face costof-living pressures and are researching purchases more thoroughly before committing,” she said. LG’s marketing strategy includes its partnership with MasterChef Australia and collaborations with judges, Andy Allen and Poh Ling Yeow, who is the LG cooking ambassador for The Good Guys. LG is also the exclusive large appliance sponsor of My Reno Rules. Market forecasts suggest Australia’s kitchen appliance sector will continue growing over the coming years, supported by renovation activity, replacement purchases and increasing smart home adoption, Tweedie said. “Consumers are looking for appliances that combine premium design, energy efficiency, ease of use and long-term value. Retailers that effectively demonstrate these benefits will be best positioned to drive conversion.” AR

The built-in cooking category has become one of the most dynamic segments in the Australian market over the past 12 months. The electrification shift is the defining force with induction cooktops posting double-digit unit growth as gas bans take hold across Sydney, Victoria, and the ACT. Consumers are trading up with real intent, according to Murat Dora. “They want pyrolytic cleaning, steam-assist, and integrated Air Fry, features that were once premium exclusives are now the expected standard,” he said, and connectivity with smart cooking is transitioning from novelty to expectation in the mid-to-premium tier. Premiumisation, multi-functionality, and smart home integration are the engines powering the category forward with multi-functionality, effortless cleaning, flexibility and design driving purchase decisions.
“Pyrolytic self-cleaning has moved from a premium differentiator to a baseline expectation. Clean lines, dark stainless steel finishes and flush controls complete a range that delivers premium performance without a prestige price tag.” The opportunity in built-in cooking right now “is genuinely exciting”, but it demands the right response from all of us, he said. Speaking further on the shift to upgrade product was Beko national sales manager, Eddie Gaymer, who said consumers are ready to trade up and invest when value is clearly demonstrated. He acknowledged that supply chain volatility and cost-of-living pressures are real headwinds, but retailers who back their people, training, and the in-store experience will consistently outperform those who compete on price alone. “That’s where opportunities lie,” he said, adding that, “the biggest conversion lever isn’t price; it’s the quality of the conversation on the floor. Back the premium end of the range, build trust with every customer and that’s how we win this together.” In 2026, marketing support for the built-in cooking category will be digital-first, according to Beko marketing manager, Amanda Hart. “We’re investing in targeted online campaigns, retail partner co-op activity, and digital advertising to drive in-store and online traffic. “This approach allows us to respond quickly to key promotional periods and equip retailers with the tools they need to tell the built-in story compellingly. With the electrification transition accelerating and consumers actively researching induction and premium ovens online before they walk through the door, meeting them in the digital space has never been more important,” she said. Our upcoming Nano range is a good example of where the category is heading, designed to offer strong performance and a refined look, while still being approachable for everyday Australian households.
Built-in cooking has remained a steady and important category and while consumers are still mindful of household budgets, cooking appliances are a priority purchase, particularly when renovating, upgrading a kitchen or replacing older appliances, according to Evan Manolis.
”
“Customers are more considered in their decisionmaking, looking beyond price alone, and paying closer attention to design, functionality, ease of cleaning and long-term value. The kitchen remains one of the most important spaces in the home, so consumers want appliances that look good, perform well and make everyday cooking easier.
“Our upcoming Nano range is a good example of where the category is heading, designed to offer strong performance and a refined look, while still being approachable for everyday Australian households. It gives retailers a range that is easy to explain and easy for consumers to understand,” he said.
“In ovens, features such as generous capacity, even cooking results, intuitive controls and easy-clean functionality continue to resonate strongly. In cooktops, induction remains a key trend, with consumers attracted to its speed, precision and cleaner look. At the same time, gas still holds an important place in the market, particularly for consumers who enjoy traditional cooking control.
And the biggest opportunity is that cooking remains central to the kitchen renovation journey. “When consumers update a kitchen, the oven and cooktop are often among the most considered purchases, that gives retailers the opportunity to sell a full cooking solution rather than a single product.
“Aesthetically, we are seeing demand for clean, minimalist design. Consumers want appliances that sit comfortably within modern kitchen cabinetry and work across a range of interior styles,” he said.
“Helping consumers better understand the difference between entry-level and better-featured appliances, such as easy cleaning, cooking consistency, safety functions and control systems can make a real difference in day-to-day use.”
“Built-in cooking range focus is on practical features, like Air Fry, pyrolytic cleaning and true steam cooking, that people use every day. Across ovens the emphasis is on usable capacity, consistent heat distribution, straightforward controls, simplistic user interface with the introduction of our unique Dial Control, and easy-clean interiors.
The challenge is that many customers are still price conscious. Retailers need products that represent strong value, but they also need the tools to explain why certain features are worth investing in. Clear product messaging, strong in-store displays and confident sales conversations are important, he said.

“The category continues to benefit from a growing interest in premium cooking experiences, multifunctional appliances and innovative cooking technologies. However, there are challenges with the sector still heavily influenced by housing and renovation activity, while high installation costs can impact purchasing decisions. There is also an ongoing need to demonstrate the value of advanced features and to justify premium price points to consumers.”

However, according to Whirlpool, competition is intense, particularly within the mid-to-premium segment. “As consumer confidence gradually improves, we are seeing increased demand for induction cooking and pyrolytic ovens, along with appliances that offer greater versatility. Multifunctional products, such as microwaves that combine steam, Air Fry and traditional cooking capabilities, continue to gain traction as consumers seek convenience and value from a single appliance,” Andrea Gunn said. Danielle Castles Category Marketing Manager – Cooking The cooking category continues to demonstrate steady growth with ovens the cornerstone of the category, and steam ovens in particular, driving momentum as more Australians embrace healthier, precision-led cooking methods. “We are seeing a notable shift towards induction as a more sustainable and efficient cooking solution, supported by evolving regulations and increased consumer awareness. Interestingly, gas cooktops have also experienced growth, highlighting that many consumers are seeking flexibility and familiarity alongside innovation,” Danielle Castles said. Appliances that combine intuitive operation with consistently exceptional results with precise temperature control, intelligent automatic programs and reliable performance are key decision drivers. Self-cleaning functionality is also increasingly important.

“A key growth opportunity for our product lies within the luxury multi-residential apartment sector, particularly with Casa Model 1S. However, one of the challenges facing this category is that apartment living often comes with limitations in both kitchen space and the capacity to entertain larger groups of guests. “To address this, we are encouraging designers and developers to think beyond the individual apartment and consider the inclusion of premium communal entertaining spaces. By incorporating Casa Model 1 into these shared facilities, residents can host larger gatherings, engage private chefs, or cater special events with professional-grade cooking capabilities. This approach not only enhances the resident experience but also creates a unique point of differentiation for luxury developments in an increasingly competitive market.”

BORA
“As awareness grows, we expect increasing demand from homeowners seeking kitchens that function as true living spaces rather than standalone work zones.”
Sean Burrell-Sinclair Country Manager APAC According to BORA, the past year produced strong momentum behind integrated cooking and extraction solutions, particularly as kitchens evolve from purely functional spaces into central living and entertaining hubs. One of the most notable trends emerging from Europe was the significant presence of downdraft extraction at EuroCucina 2026, where around half of the kitchen displays featured some form of an integrated extraction system.
The focus for 2026 is centred on building awareness of the BORA brand and the cooktop extraction category in Australia. As part of this commitment, BORA has engaged Niche Marketing Group to deliver a communications program with its ‘More Than Cooking’ philosophy and pioneering cooktop extraction technology among Australian consumers, retailers, designers and industry media. “Alongside this activity, we will continue investing in new retail displays, product launches and hands-on demonstration opportunities. BORA products are best understood through experience, which is why live demonstrations remain a key component of our strategy,” he said.
“While adoption in Australia is still developing, growing awareness among designers, retailers and homeowners suggests the market is following a similar trajectory to Europe, where integrated extraction has become an established part of contemporary kitchen design,” Sean BurrellSinclair said. Consumers are increasingly looking for products that combine performance, design and ease of use. Within the cooktop extraction category, effective odour and vapour extraction remains a primary consideration, closely followed by low operating noise and seamless integration into the kitchen. “BORA’s cooktop extractor systems have been engineered to address these priorities by capturing cooking vapours directly at the source before they rise through the room. “The challenge is helping consumers understand that cooktop extraction is more than an alternative appliance format. It represents a different approach to kitchen planning, that prioritises fresh air, unobstructed sightlines and greater design flexibility.

She said a key innovation in ASKO’s latest Craft Frame oven range is the hybrid user interface that combines touchscreen technology with a physical jog dial, enabling users to navigate advanced multifunctional cooking with clarity and ease. ASKO has also expanded its suite of intelligent features like guided cooking, precise temperature control, steam functions and Air Fry functionality, all designed to simplify meal preparation. Other innovations are smart connectivity and integrated AI recipe generation for creating personalised recipes based on the ingredients on hand and preferred cooking style. Li said one of the biggest prospects for the category is in consumer education. “Modern ovens are incredibly capable, but many people are still only scratching the surface of what they can do with features like guided cooking, steam functions, smart connectivity, Air Fry and

AI-assisted recipes, but consumers first need to understand how these features can benefit them in their daily lives. “The challenge is that many consumers are still hesitant about connected appliances and often only use a fraction of their oven’s functionality. It’s not about adding technology for the sake of it, but making it intuitive, accessible and valuable so people can get the most from their appliance.” ASKO’s current marketing investment is directed on both inspiration and education, bringing the latest oven range to life across digital and in-store touchpoints. This includes display upgrades, retail staff education, premium POS materials, live cooking demonstrations, and collaborations with chefs and design opinion leaders to help consumers discover the full potential of modern cooking. The company is also investing in an elevated retail experience through upgraded displays, staff training and premium POS materials, while continuing to provide industryleading after-sales support. Commenting on the category was sales director Greg Calnon who said ASKO is building its strongest cooking portfolio yet, and he believes there is still significant growth potential to unlock together with retail partners. “In the 26/27 year, ASKO will continue working closely with retailers to drive category growth through new model launches, generous furnishing within models and intuitive products, all driven by less complicated promotional strategy, with the ultimate goal being to sell up and strengthen product mix.” AR www.applianceretailer.com.au

In 2026, V-ZUG will invest in brand storytelling, product education, retail engagement and premium customer experiences with a focus on steam technology and Swiss innovation. While overall unit growth remains modest, consumers are increasingly investing in higher-value products that offer improved performance, convenience and design. While built-in ovens remain the larger segment of the major cooking category, freestanding cookers are showing stronger momentum. Features such as induction cooking, multi-function ovens and pyrolytic self-cleaning are becoming increasingly important purchase drivers, while larger cooking formats, particularly 90cm cookers, continue to gain popularity. Consumers are also expecting more from their freestanding cooker, with many features once exclusive to built-in appliances, such as air fry and steam, making their way into the freestanding category.

Of particular note is the closing gap for feature expectations between freestanding and built-in appliances, according to Murat Dora. “Our new 60cm freestanding range brings AeroPerfect, integrated Air Fry, and SteamAdd into a format that’s always been about accessibility. Consumers no longer have to compromise on performance to stay within budget. Electrification, healthier cooking, and rising design expectations are also actively shaping the category.” Consumers want more from their appliances, not just in performance, but in how they support everyday life. Beko’s AeroPerfect technology ensures consistent, even cooking results across every model, combined with 85L gross capacity, fuel flexibility across five configurations, SteamAdd for healthier cooking, and SteamShine for effortless cleaning.

From a marketing perspective, Beko is focused on the innovation that sets the brand apart in this category with AeroPerfect, SteamAdd and integrated Air Fry features.
“They’re all in market, and they’re all freestanding customers. The opportunities are real, but so are the pressures. Margin stress, price competition, and supply chain reliability all require sharp focus. The answer isn’t competing on price; it’s building the value story confidently.”

The 90cm premium segment is the headline opportunity, according to Jaber, as it carries strong margins for retailers and continues to grow as consumers treat the freestanding cooker as the hero of an open-plan kitchen.
ELECTROLUX
Matthew Jaber Category Manager – Cooking Freestanding cooking has been one of the more resilient categories in the home over the past 12 months and Electrolux attributes this to two different consumers: the value-driven replacement buyer, where demand from the rental and investor segment remains steady, and the aspirational 90cm buyer, where the category continues to deliver strong value growth. “The clearest trend is that features once exclusive to built-in are now expected in freestanding including Air Fry, larger gross capacities, and increasingly induction cooktops on freestanding cookers as the electrification shift extends into this category. Dual fuel remains the sweet spot at the premium end, combining gas responsiveness up top with electric oven precision below,” Mattthew Jaber said. Capacity, versatility and ease of cleaning lead every conversation as families seek a large oven cavity that can handle a full Sunday roast alongside sides. Air Fry built into the oven has become a genuine purchase driver in freestanding, not just built-in, which both Electrolux and Westinghouse offer across the range. “At the premium end, consumers want dual fuel flexibility, heavy-duty trivets, and a commanding 90cm presence. At the value end, reliability and serviceability matter most which is where Chef’s decades of Australian heritage continue to resonate.”

“Induction freestanding is the emerging second opportunity as gas transitions accelerate; we expect it to follow the same adoption curve we’ve seen in built-in cooktops. There’s also a meaningful trade-up story from entry to midtier, where Air Fry provides a clear, demonstrable reason to step up,” he said. The challenge is price erosion at the entry level, where promotional intensity is high and challenger brands compete aggressively. “Retailers who anchor the conversation on capacity, features and total cost of ownership rather than ticket price will protect both their margin and long-term customer satisfaction.” From a marketing perspective, freestanding is central to the Westinghouse story, with sustained digital and social investment celebrating everyday family cooking, alongside retail co-op support, catalogue presence and in-store display programs. “Chef continues to be supported as Australia’s trusted value cooking brand. As with built-in, the back half of 2026 will see momentum build behind a significant pipeline of freestanding cooking news.” As for Jaber’s message to retailers: “If your team can demonstrate Air Fry, capacity and cleaning benefits on the floor, every replacement buyer is a trade-up opportunity and every 90cm sale anchors a premium kitchen conversation that can extend to rangehoods, dishwashers and refrigeration. “With Westinghouse, Electrolux and Chef, we cover the entire price ladder from first rental to forever home and we’re backing that range with training, display and a pipeline of innovation through 2026 and beyond. Later in the year, AEG will launch induction and dual fuel models to further drive category premiumisation.” AR www.applianceretailer.com.au

While gas cooking remains a favoured consumer choice, there is also a clear trend toward induction cooking due to government legislation and general consumer trends.
”
The opportunity for the category is the transition to induction, as gas connections are phased out of new dwellings and induction awareness grows. This points to a sustained upgrade cycle ahead, alongside the renovation led, design conscious buyers, who demand statement cookers in wider formats and custom finishes, according to Bertuccio.
ILVE
Daniel Bertuccio Head of Marketing The freestanding cooker category has been resilient over the past year, according to ILVE, with demographic pockets and design trends that continue to lean to this cooking format. “While overall unit volumes may be somewhat softer than previous years, renovation and newbuilds continue to hold firm as buyers trade up to larger, better-specified and more premium cookers,” Daniel Bertuccio said. “While gas cooking remains a favoured consumer choice, there is also a clear trend toward induction cooking due to government legislation and general consumer trends. Personalisation, performance and distinct design identity are increasingly influencing decision making.” Other key priorities include versatility, oven capacity, ease of cleaning and efficiency, with dual fuel and induction high on the consideration list. ILVE’s range meets these demands by offering induction, dual fuel and gas configurations and 60cm to 150cm sizes with twin-oven layouts. “Every ILVE cooker is handcrafted in Italy and can be finished in over 200 RAL colours, including a colour-match service to cabinetry. For shoppers treating the cooker as the centrepiece of the kitchen, our combination of performance and customisation sets us apart.” 48

“Challenges are also present as cost-of-living pressure lengthens purchase cycles, induction conversion can carry hidden costs like cookware and switchboard upgrades, and the value end of the market remains highly competitive on price,” he said. “For premium brands like ILVE, the task is to keep highlighting the difference between a cooker bought on price and one bought as a dream kitchen centrepiece where build quality, serviceability and design justify the investment.” ILVE’s marketing activity for the remainder of 2026 will focus on unique selling points from a design, performance and quality perspective, with a particular emphasis on handcrafted Italian design and personalisation. “We will invest in platforms where premium buyers research and make preliminary decisions around kitchen design. Social media is often one of the first touchpoints for customers to interact with our brand. In-store showroom presence remains critical for a considered, tactile purchase and we will work with our partners to improve this to represent our brand in the best way possible.” His message to retailers: “Buyers entering showrooms or shopping online are increasingly pulled to a positive in-person or online user experience, so the little details are more important than ever. Premium freestanding cookers protect both margin and increase basket value in a way the more cost-effective models cannot. The extra effort is worthwhile as the retailer, supplier and customer all benefit.” AR

Pritchard believes growth in premium kitchen renovations and custom home builds present a key opportunity for the freestanding cooking category, with an increasing consumer willingness to invest in statement appliances that enhance both functionality and design. “Our message to retailers is simple – focus on value over price. Customers investing in a new kitchen or renovation are seeking products that will enhance their home for years to come. By showcasing premium freestanding cooking solutions and highlighting their performance, craftsmanship, and design credentials, retailers can drive higher-value sales and create a more compelling showroom experience.” AR
Despite the market shift towards electrification, Glen Dimplex, distributor of Belling freestanding cookers, has reported strong demand for gas and dual fuel products. “Demand for induction appliances is steadily growing, although primarily as an alternative to more traditional electric or ceramic variants,” Joel Galea said.

“We expect demand for induction appliances to continue growing as consumers become more familiar and comfortable with the technology, supported by new models which require less connected power, enabling more cost-effective installation.” Colour continues to expand across the Belling range of cookers, supported by its new Colour Boutique series. “Consumers are excited by the wide range of options available to suit their personal style.” With oven capacity and flexibility key purchase considerations, Belling multi-cavity cookers, along with upcoming single-cavity cookers, offer the largest oven capacities in their respective categories in the market. “As cost-of-living pressures continue to play a part in decisionmaking, Belling’s five-year parts and labour warranty provides peace of mind, ensuring longterm performance.” Belling’s new range of Richmond single-cavity range cookers are due to land in stores in late 2026, joining the existing multi-cavity offering, while filling a key gap in the portfolio and providing greater choice for consumers. Evan Manolis Head of Product Freestanding cooking continues to perform well, particularly where customers are looking for a straightforward replacement option or a statement appliance for the kitchen, Worldwide Appliances’ Evan Manolis said. “It remains an important category because it offers simplicity, flexibility and strong value. Freestanding cookers appeal to households that want oven and cooktop functionality together, without the need to purchase separate built-in products,” he commented. “Freestanding cooking is also benefiting from consumers who are refreshing existing kitchens rather than undertaking full renovations. For these customers, a new freestanding cooker can make a meaningful difference without the cost and complexity of a complete kitchen rebuild.” Replacement demand is driving the category with many consumers looking to update older appliances with something more modern, efficient and visually appealing. Key considerations include larger oven capacities, robust cooktop performance, stainless steel finishes and more premium designs, as well as being easy to clean and simple to operate. “There is an opportunity to trade up consumers, particularly when they understand the benefits of a larger oven, better cooktop layout, improved cleaning features or a more premium finish. Renovators are also seeking a simple cooking solution without moving into fully integrated built-in appliances. 50

“The main challenge is that the category can sometimes be seen as purely functional. Retailers can help overcome this by showing that freestanding cooking can still deliver strong design, performance and value.” Marketing support for Artusi freestanding cookers will focus on digital campaigns, retailer communications, product content and in-store materials that demonstrate practical value, replacement opportunities and the benefits of a complete cooking solution. “The aim is to make the category easy to understand for consumers and easy to sell for retailers. We will highlight the key everyday benefits, including capacity, cooking performance, durability and ease of use,” Manolis said. AR

Ventilation counting for more in kitchen design BY KYMBERLY MARTIN Rangehoods are the standout performer recording the strongest growth across the three major cooking groups, NielsenIQ data revealed, with recirculating rangehoods accounting for almost half of the market, increasing 13.1% and wall chimney hoods, which represent around one-quarter of the market, rising 14%. These two hood types account for almost threequarters of the total rangehood market. The importance of ventilation was articulated clearly from several respondents for this feature. Rachael Williams from Arisit noted that heated anti-
condensation units are a new talking point for retailers, aligning with the growth in induction cooktops. Anthony Fletcher from Schweigen believes there is a lack of consumer and industry awareness around ventilation and the health benefits of effective extraction in the home. The role of ventilation is a key marketing focus for Worldwide Appliances as consumers place more importance on air quality. Design integration was another topic to weave into the rangehood conversation.

ARISIT
Rachael Williams National Sales and Marketing Manager – Specialist Brands Rangehoods have performed well in the last 12 months, according to Rachel Williams. “Arisit is seeing ASPs increasing as new technologies are asking a premium, and customers see value in the product offering. Induction cooking is increasing too, due to regulations and building trends.” She believes as more premium brands and products come into this space floor staff are spending extra time during the selection process. “The key opportunities our industry faces are also the challenges. Building codes have changed to require hoods to be ducted to the atmosphere on new homes and renovations, moving away from recirculating installations. The reasoning being better function of the appliance, safety, better installation practice and improved overall family living environments,” she said. “This gives our sales specialists the opportunity to educate the consumer on the benefits of power and performance and how that benefits their everyday lives. From powerful extraction, with minimal noise in open plan living spaces, to the ease of use of new technologies such as hob to hood, thermo sensors and voice control. Home integration and app control is now commonplace using existing home systems such as Alexa and Google.”

Due to condensation, induction cooking comes with an extraction issue, so the heated anticondensation units are something new for retailers to talk about, she added. This year, Arisit’s marketing is focusing on making the technology and benefits of a rangehood visible to the consumer to help them understand the value it adds to a new kitchen. This is done through education on social channels and at the point of sale with relevant promotions in conjunction with retail partners. AR

Anthony Fletcher Director Also reporting a robust market is Schweigen with Anthony Fletcher noting that the silent rangehood category has delivered strong double-digit growth over the past 12 months, driven by increasing consumer awareness of indoor air quality and a growing desire for quieter, healthier living environments. “One of the most significant shifts we are seeing is the rise of low-noise living as a purchase driver. Consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of noise pollution within the home and are actively seeking appliances that minimise disruption without compromising performance. This is particularly relevant in modern open-plan homes, where kitchens have become central living and entertaining spaces,” Fletcher said. Demand for premium kitchen solutions that combine performance, aesthetics and innovation is increasing too. “Interest in smarthome functionality, energy efficiency and architecturally integrated appliances is also accelerating, aligning strongly with Schweigen’s product offering and pipeline.” Consumers are also prioritising conveniencedriven features such as automated operation, shut-off timers, smart connectivity and gesture control. Demand continues to strengthen across premium kitchen renovations, silent extraction, indoor-outdoor living, smart-home integration and sustainable home solutions, he said. However, there is a lack of consumer and industry awareness around ventilation performance, compliance requirements and the broader health benefits of effective extraction. He claims ventilation is often one of the most overlooked elements of kitchen design, despite its critical role in improving indoor air quality and protecting the home environment. 54

To help address this knowledge gap, Schweigen is investing in consumer and industry education. This includes the launch of its second Formal CPD titled, ‘Bushfire-Ready Ventilation: Compliance & Safety for Homes in Bushfire Zones’ providing architects, designers and building professionals with practical guidance on ventilation best practice, compliance obligations and safer building outcomes. Marketing efforts will focus on Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and AI-driven visibility. “As more consumers turn to AI-powered search, recommendation engines and conversational platforms to inform purchasing decisions, it is increasingly important that trusted brands maintain a strong presence across these emerging channels.” For retail partners there is comprehensive marketing, sales enablement and product training programs. “Co-operative marketing initiatives, in-store merchandising, showroom experiences and educational resources ensure retailers have the tools and support needed to effectively drive category growth,” he said. “We believe the silent extraction category is well positioned for further expansion, creating meaningful opportunities for retailers who lead the conversation.” Schweigen was recently recognised with an Australian Small Business Champion Award and APAC Stevie Award. SMEG’s updated range meets these needs with improved extraction performance, quieter operation, and enhanced efficiency, available in a variety of styles, finishes, and installation options such as canopy, undermount, integrated, island, and wall-mounted. “Increasing consumer awareness of the health, comfort, and performance benefits of effective rangehoods presents a significant opportunity. With the rise of open-plan living, there is a greater need to reduce cooking odours, grease, smoke, and airborne particles in the home.”
SMEG
Rodney Manauzzi Product Manager – MDA The rangehood category has evolved as consumers recognise the importance of effective kitchen ventilation alongside cooking performance, according to SMEG, with demand for products featuring powerful extraction, quiet operation, and energy efficiency. “In the past year, SMEG has updated its rangehood collection to enhance extraction performance and reduce noise, while also introducing new colour options that align with current kitchen design trends,” Rodney Manauzzi said. “Consumers are increasingly seeking appliances that integrate seamlessly into open-plan living spaces, making aesthetics and installation flexibility key purchasing factors, alongside effective grease and odour removal, low noise levels, energy efficiency and ease of cleaning. Additionally, there is growing demand for solutions that coordinate well with cooktops, creating a cohesive kitchen design.” 56

However, educating consumers that a rangehood is essential for the kitchen, not just an optional accessory, remains a challenge. “Offering a range of styles and finishes that align with current kitchen design trends, explaining the benefits of ducted versus recirculating systems, and discussing extraction performance and noise levels can all help customers make informed decisions and boost kitchen package sales.” AR

ELECTROLUX
Matthew Jaber Category Manager – Cooking Rangehoods have tracked closely with the broader cooking category over the past 12 months, with the attachment rate to oven and cooktop purchases remaining the key volume motivator, according to Electrolux. “This encouraging trend is a clear shift in how consumers think about the category, from a compliance purchase to a genuine performance and design decision, growing awareness of indoor air quality and the realities of open-plan living, where cooking odours travel through the whole home,” Matthew Jaber said. Design integration is the dominant trend as concealed, undermount and integrated models continue to take share as consumers prioritise clean kitchen lines, while at the premium end, statement canopies remain strong in 90cm kitchens. Quiet operation has also become a primary purchase decision. Extraction performance, noise and ease of cleaning are the big three. “Consumers want a rangehood that genuinely clears the air at a noise level that doesn’t interrupt conversation and our ranges across Westinghouse, Electrolux and AEG are engineered for exactly that balance, with multiple speed settings, boost functions and dishwashersafe filters as standard expectations,” he said. “Beyond performance, consumers prefer the rangehood to either disappear into the cabinetry or make a statement and there’s very little middle ground. Our portfolio covers both: integrated and undermount solutions for seamless kitchens, through to premium canopies that match our 90cm cooking suites, with LED lighting and intuitive controls rounding out the decision.” The biggest opportunity is attachment, and every oven and cooktop sale should include an extraction conversation, and retailers who build that discipline 58

will see immediate basket growth, he claims. “The second opportunity is education, helping consumers match extraction capacity to their cooktop and kitchen layout that lifts the sale from entry to midtier almost every time. There is also growing interest in suite-matching, where the rangehood completes a coordinated cooking package.” The challenge is commoditisation at the entry level, where the category can default to a grudge purchase if it isn’t actively sold. “Ducting complexity in apartments and retrofits can also stall sales which is why recirculating options and clear installation guidance matter.” Rangehoods are marketed as part of the complete cooking suite across its brands in 2026, featuring in Westinghouse, Electrolux & AEG kitchen campaigns, retail co-op programs and catalogue activity, while training specifically on attachment, gives floor staff simple tools to match the right rangehood to every cooktop sale. His message to retailers is not to let the rangehood be an after-thought. “It’s the easiest attachment in the cooking category and one of the most profitable, and the consumer genuinely benefits as a well-matched rangehood transforms the openplan living experience. “Ask the extraction question on every cooktop sale, range the integrated and canopy options that match our cooking suites, and use of training support to make the conversation effortless.” AR

There remains a diehard group of consumers still wanting conventional rangehoods and we service that demand very well.” Gilmore said while sales opportunities are great, the product must be correct. “Designs that seem like a good idea in the conference room, sometimes don’t succeed in the market and our strike rate with strong selling specifications is very good.” As for a marketing strategy he pointed to an improved presentation in stores and to keep talking it up with an improved presence online. “If you have a clear wall, put up rangehoods, or if you have a rangehood wall not generating good income, speak to us. Murat Dora Head of Product The rangehood category is experiencing a genuine transformation, and the momentum is compelling, Murat Dora said. “Different forces are reshaping the category simultaneously. The induction boom is creating natural co-purchase opportunities, and the answer to ‘do I still need a rangehood with induction?’ is emphatically yes. And design expectations have fundamentally shifted; concealment, quiet operation, and smart connectivity are now what consumers are asking for. “The rangehood has moved from an afterthought to a considered purchase. That’s a significant moment for the category,” Dora said. “Consumers are coming to the rangehood category with higher expectations and our range is built to meet every one of them. Extraction performance is the foundation, but what really resonates is the full package. Quiet operation for open-plan living, with canopy, undermount, and slide out formats for every kitchen configuration.” When it comes to challenges, national sales manager, Eddie Gaymer described the rangehood as the most underleveraged category in the kitchen. “The co-purchase opportunity alone is enormous. With every induction cooktop sale, a rangehood conversation is waiting to happen,” he said. “When a customer walks in excited about upgrading their kitchen, the rangehood is part of that story. It protects their family’s health, completes the aesthetic, and makes their cooking environment better. “Invest in knowing the product. Mark Tragear Managing Director Bertazzoni has launched an under-cupboard rangehood collection, made in Australia in collaboration with Australian ventilation specialist, Condari. The collection comprises six models, available with single or twin motor configurations, including dedicated models designed to meet the higher ventilation requirements of induction cooking. Airflow capacities range from 750m³/ hr to 1,500m³/hr with models available to suit cooktops from 60cm to 120cm. Finished in an elegant matt black, the rangehoods are designed to integrate seamlessly into contemporary kitchens while remaining easy to clean. Every model incorporates Condari’s renowned filter system and one or two 150mm duct outlets (depending on the model), making installation easy. All models include Bertazzoni Australia’s comprehensive five-year warranty. “This partnership represents the best of both worlds. Australian consumers expect exceptional ventilation performance, particularly with larger kitchens and open-plan living. Condari’s reputation for engineering excellence made them the obvious partner,” Mark Tragear said. “Together, we’ve developed a rangehood collection that delivers the performance Australian households demand while perfectly complementing the design and quality of Bertazzoni appliances.” According to Tragear, the boutique brand is working with retail partner campaigns backed by a social media program. “We have appointed a public relations company to help grow the Bertazzoni brand further.” As for the year ahead, he believes it will not be easy for retailers who he said are: “expecting business to come and having too many brands can also be a thorn,” adding: “support those brands who are supporting your company and sales team”. AR RANGEHOODS Because rangehoods are often purchased alongside cooking appliances, matching design cues and clear product positioning help retailers present a more complete offer to consumers, according to Manolis. And the biggest opportunity is to attach rangehoods to cooking appliance sales. “When a customer is buying an oven, cooktop or freestanding cooker, it is the ideal time to discuss ventilation. This can increase basket size while also ensuring the customer ends up with a kitchen solution that performs properly. “There is also an opportunity to educate consumers on the importance of choosing the right rangehood for their cooking style and kitchen layout. Extraction power, ducting, noise level and installation all matter, but they are not always front of mind for the customer.

Evan Manolis Head of Product Rangehoods have remained a consistent category over the past 12 months, supported by kitchen renovations, appliance replacements and a continued focus on open-plan living. Evan Manolis said as kitchens are more connected to dining and living areas, consumers are also paying more attention to ventilation, noise levels and design. The category is also becoming less of an afterthought. “Consumers increasingly understand the importance of a good rangehood in keeping the kitchen cleaner, reducing cooking odours and improving comfort in the home,” he said. Demand for quieter operation, strong extraction, easy-to-clean filters and designs that complement the overall kitchen aesthetic are also key trends with a continued interest in concealed and integrated styles, particularly in more minimalist kitchens. “For many customers, the rangehood needs to perform well without dominating the space visually. That balance between function and design is becoming increasingly important. “Consumers want a rangehood that works effectively but does not disrupt the kitchen environment and our rangehoods are designed with those priorities in mind. We focus on practical extraction, usable fan speeds, effective lighting and finishes that work across different kitchen styles. “The challenge is that rangehoods can still be treated as a secondary purchase. Retailers have an important role to play in explaining why ventilation should be considered early in the kitchen planning process.” Marketing communication will highlight the practical benefits consumers care about most such as cleaner air, reduced odours, effective lighting, quieter operation and designs that suit modern kitchens. Retail support includes clearer product information to help recommend the right rangehood based on a customer’s cooking appliance, kitchen layout and installation needs. “Our message to retailers is to treat rangehoods as an essential part of the cooking conversation and a great cooking appliance needs the right ventilation solution to support it. “There is a strong opportunity to increase attachment rates by discussing rangehoods earlier in the sales process. AR WATER, SINKS & TAPS Inside Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology tested to remove over 110 substances down to 0.0001 microns,” Bosscher said. “Households also want instant access to multiple water temperatures without countertop appliances cluttering their kitchen. The Philips Tap delivers five temperatures on demand – chilled, ambient, 45°C, 85°C and 95°C near-boiling, replacing the kettle and fridge water filter. “Traditional RO systems use up to nine litres of water for every three litres purified – a recovery rate of just 20%. The Philips system achieves 65% water recovery, producing two litres of purified water for every one litre. For environmentally conscious consumers, this is a compelling point of difference.”
AQUASHIELD
Peter Bosscher Director – ANZ The sinks and taps category delivered strong growth over the past 12 months, driven by a convergence of health awareness, sustainability priorities and kitchen design trends, according to AquaShield’s Peter Bosscher. “We’re seeing a decisive shift in consumer expectations away from basic taste improvement and towards genuine, verifiable water purification with PFAS contamination the defining catalyst, as consumers increasingly seek solutions that remove, not just reduce, harmful substances,” he said. “This is accelerating demand for reverse osmosis technology, the only filtration method capable of reliably eliminating PFAS, microplastics, pharmaceuticals and heavy metals. Simultaneously, the ‘tap as an appliance’ concept is gaining real momentum. Consumers are consolidating the kettle, the fridge water dispenser and a standalone filter into a single, integrated solution.” Design is also becoming a significant differentiator with matte black, brushed finishes and premium metallics displacing standard chrome as consumers demand products that complement their kitchen aesthetic. AquaShield’s consumer research consistently uncovers three key priorities – verified contaminant removal, especially PFAS and microplastics, convenience without compromise and sustainability. “Consumers are no longer satisfied with vague ‘improved taste’ claims; they want measurable, certified performance. In addition to the growing conversation around PFAS contamination, the kitchen renovation and new build pipeline also presents a significant opportunity for category growth. However, there remains a gap between awareness of water quality concerns and understanding of available solutions. “Many consumers do not yet distinguish between basic carbon block filtration and genuine reverse osmosis purification. Closing that gap requires clear and credible in-store communication and sustained investment in digital education,” Bosscher said. “We are investing in digital content that explains the science of reverse osmosis in accessible terms – the real-world relevance of PFAS removal, the benefits of Aquaporin Inside technology, and the mineralisation process that ensures purified water retains its taste and health benefits. Video content is performing strongly and will remain a primary channel.” At a retail level, AquaShield is investing in demonstration units and point-of-sale materials that bring the Philips Boiling & Chilled Tap to life. “We will support our retail partners with training, demonstration assets, category collateral and expertise. Consumers are spending on their kitchens and their health, and the Philips Boiling & Chilled Tap sits squarely at the intersection of both. With an expansion to four tap finishes in September 2026, there will be a product to suit every kitchen design. “The opportunity is not just to sell a product – it is to upgrade the conversation with customers who are already thinking about water quality but haven’t yet found a solution that meets their design and performance expectations. BILLI
”
Christy Minutoli Marketing Manager – ANZ The water category has continued to evolve with filtered water solutions moving firmly into the mainstream, according to Billi’s Christy Minutoli. What was once considered a luxury kitchen upgrade is now becoming an expected feature in both residential and commercial spaces. “At Billi, we’re seeing customers invest in solutions that improve their lifestyle, support wellness goals and reduce their environmental impact. Water quality is also becoming a bigger part of the conversation, with consumers wanting greater confidence in the water they drink every day,” she said. One of the biggest trends is the shift towards multifunctional products as consumers want less clutter on the benchtop and more performance from every appliance in their home. “They’re looking for solutions that combine design, convenience and sustainability, which is exactly where the category continues to gain momentum.” Convenience remains another key purchase driver with instant access to filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water high on the consideration list, while sustainability plays a major role as consumers seek alternatives to bottled water and single-use plastics. “At the same time, water quality and design matter more than ever. Consumers want products that not only look great in their homes but also deliver better tasting, filtered water they can trust. Billi products are designed to deliver on all of these priorities, combining advanced filtration, energy efficiency and premium Australian design in one integrated solution.” Many consumers are only just discovering the value that integrated filtered water systems can deliver, not only in terms of convenience, but also water quality, sustainability and long-term cost savings. “For retailers, this presents an 70

opportunity to move the conversation beyond taps and appliances. The category is no longer simply about providing drinking water, it’s about delivering a better lifestyle,” Minutoli said. The challenge is helping consumers understand the difference between premium, engineered solutions and lower-cost alternatives. “Product reliability, filtration performance, energy efficiency and after-sales support all play an important role in long-term satisfaction.” Billi’s focus for the remainder of 2026 is on expanding and enhancing its retail display network to ensure more consumers can experience the benefits of its products firsthand. “We’ll continue investing in premium retail displays, point-of-sale materials and retailer training, helping our partners showcase the benefits of filtered water and create more engaging customer experiences in store,” Minutoli said. ZIP INTERNATIONAL
Zip Water will continue to invest in building a stronger brand, reinforcing its position as a premium and trusted leader in hydration. This will be supported by integrated marketing activity across digital, retail and trade channels, alongside increased visibility through partnerships, showroom experiences and in-store presence.
Mike Abbott President
Zip Water has seen consistent category growth over the past 12 months, reflecting sustained demand for advanced filtered water solutions. “We’re seeing a shift in what consumers value, with growing demand for point-ofuse filtration and greater confidence in water quality. Increased awareness of contaminants such as PFAS and microplastics is influencing this behaviour, alongside sustainability considerations, including reducing reliance on bottled water,” Mike Abbott said. Multi-function systems that combine boiling, chilled and sparkling water continue to dominate, as consumers look for convenience and versatility from a single tap, which replaces multiple appliances with one integrated solution. “From a design perspective, consumers continue to favour natural, timeless finishes that create a cohesive space. This year, Zip Water has expanded its range to include options such as Brushed Bronze, alongside Brushed Brass and Brushed Gunmetal.” An increased focus on water quality, alongside broader lifestyle trends such as growing interest in hydration and sparkling water, present the biggest opportunities. The key challenge is the need for greater transparency and clarity around water quality claims, particularly in relation to PFAS and microplastics. “As awareness grows, there is increasing scrutiny on how these contaminants are addressed, and brands must ensure their claims are clear, accurate and supported by credible evidence.”
“We know consumers are increasingly looking for transparency and clear, evidence-based information when it comes to sustainability. Our focus continues to centre on this, supported by our product credentials and the upcoming release of our latest ESG report,” Abbott said.

Innovation also remains central to the company’s growth strategy, supported by its local product development team, which continues to respond to evolving consumer preferences, design trends and ESG considerations. “Our focus is on continually refining and enhancing the portfolio to maintain a premium, relevant offer for both retail and trade audiences.” As awareness continues to build around water quality, convenience and sustainability, there is significant potential to expand consideration beyond early adopters and drive broader household penetration, according to Abbott. “Building the category through leading brands will be critical. Clear, well-merchandised in-store displays and showroom experiences that showcase product capability, design and ease of use will help customers understand the value of multi-function systems.” He believes there is also an opportunity to support and highlight Australian designed and manufactured products, which are becoming increasingly important to consumers, particularly in a category centred on health, sustainability and long-term investment. “For retailers, the opportunity is to simplify the category and focus on education. Clearly explaining filtration performance, product capability and long-term benefits will be key to building consumer confidence. “There is also a clear shift towards premiumisation, with consumers seeking products that combine performance with strong design outcomes. Finishes and aesthetics are playing a bigger role in purchase decisions. “Retailers who effectively support customers beyond the initial purchase will be best positioned to drive both growth and margin in the year ahead,” Abbott said. “Design also continues to influence purchasing decisions. Premium finishes such as Brushed Nickel, Brushed Brass and Gunmetal remain popular. We’re also seeing growing demand for warmer metallic finishes, which is why we’re introducing Brushed Bronze to our Signature range, giving retailers another premium option to meet evolving consumer preferences.” Overall, consumers are becoming more informed, comparing functionality, quality, design and longterm value, rather than simply looking at price, creating opportunities for brands that genuinely innovate and deliver outstanding value.

The boiling, chilled and sparkling water tap category continues to perform strongly, according to Peppy Taps, as consumers look for products that make life easier, while also complementing their overall kitchen design. “One of the biggest trends is the move towards multifunction taps that reduce bench clutter while delivering greater convenience. Rather than having multiple appliances on the benchtop, consumers increasingly want one elegant solution that does everything they need,” Scott Beling said. 72
Appliance Retailer August / September 2026
“We’re also seeing strong demand for quality materials and products backed by local support. Every Peppy tap is manufactured using premium lead-free brass, available in six premium finishes and supported by an Australian-based sales and technical support team.” While boiling water taps have become increasingly common, there’s still potential across renovations, new home builds and kitchen upgrades as more consumers discover the convenience these products offer. “One of the biggest opportunities is educating consumers on the benefits of replacing a standard mixer tap with a completely integrated water solution. Retailers play an important role in demonstrating these products and helping customers understand the everyday convenience they provide,” Beling said. “The biggest challenge is product differentiation. As the category continues to expand, consumers are looking beyond price and placing greater importance on innovation, quality, compliance and reliable after-sales support. “We believe the brands that continue to innovate and deliver genuine value will be the ones that drive the next stage of growth in this category.” AR

HANSGROHE
Simon Balzer Managing Director – Oceania The kitchen mixer category has performed extremely well for Hansgrohe, with the company delivering 23% growth year-to-date. Kitchen mixers have been the fastest growing category in the Hansgrohe portfolio over the past three years. “Consumers are looking for durable, reliable kitchen mixers. PVD finishes are increasingly important for long-lasting performance, while a pull-out spray is now a must-have, especially when paired with our sBox technology for smooth operation,” Simon Balzer said. “As the kitchen has become the focal point of the living space, aesthetics are just as critical as functionality. Our range delivers premium design alongside practical performance.”
The key opportunity lies in Hansgrohe’s concise range, which simplifies selection, display, and stock management. More broadly, the industry continues to face the transition to lead-free products, particularly in Victoria. Hansgrohe transitioned its entire kitchen mixer range to leadfree in September 2025. “Our primary focus for 2026 is ensuring highquality in-store displays are executed perfectly and providing strong support for key promotional activities. We have not needed to run heavy promotional campaigns on the category this year because of strong organic momentum, and we plan to continue leveraging this,” Balzer said. “Hansgrohe is well known as a premium bathroom brand, but electrical retailers selling kitchen appliances have a significant opportunity to grow sales by offering Hansgrohe kitchen mixers to customers undertaking kitchen renovations.” AR

“With seamless power connections via our EZ connect cord, and simplified, safe mounting with EZ grip handles and Lift & Latch technology, we’ve made installing our InSinkErators easier than ever.
The Australian food waste disposer category is poised for significant momentum through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, according to InSinkErator, driven by a convergence of consumer, legislative, and product innovation.
“We now have an Advanced Series, Power Series, and Standard Series in the range, each with InSinkErator models matched to different lifestyles. Whether you have a large household or busy family, are a kitchen entertainer, cooking enthusiast, kitchen renovator or new home buyer, there is an InSinkErator model in the range best suited to your needs.” AR
“As Australian households increasingly adapt to changing council bin collections, including the widespread adoption of FOGO services and reductions in general waste capacity, InSinkErator disposers are becoming an essential, hygienic, and convenient solution for modern kitchen management,” Andrew Gale said. “This shift is fuelling demand across all key segments, particularly within kitchen renovations, new builds, and retrofits, where consumers are prioritising kitchen longevity, hygiene, and premium, quiet-performance appliances. Additionally, the Federal Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund presents a key growth opportunity, with a $10 billion commitment to expanding housing over the coming five years.” Consumer sentiment relating to in-home food waste management has undergone a fundamental shift as households take pride in their kitchens and increasingly turn to solutions that preserve the pristine condition and hygiene of their homes. “This has driven surging demand for InSinkErator disposers, establishing them as an essential appliance in modern kitchens. There is a clear preference for premium, high-performance models that offer superior durability, robust warranties, and enhanced grinding capabilities.” The recently introduced InSinkErator Next Gen Evolution Plus range has become a primary growth driver, particularly among kitchen renovators who value high-performance and a reliable user experience. 74

TEFAL
Noel Hsu Commercial Manager – ANZ Tefal has reported strong growth in the water purification category, supported by increasing consumer awareness around health, hydration, and water quality. In particular, there is strong momentum in point-of-use (POU) reverse osmosis systems, which are now the fastestgrowing segment globally and account for more than 50% of market demand. “In Australia, the category continues to expand steadily, driven by rising adoption across both residential and commercial environments. Key trends include growing concern about contaminants such as PFAS, heavy metals, chlorine, fluoride, and microplastics and an increased demand for bottle-less, sustainable hydration solutions,” Noel Hsu said. Consumers are looking for convenience, safety, and superior water quality. The most important features are advanced filtration performance, a long filter life for lower ongoing costs, healthytasting water and a compact countertop design that does not require permanent installation. “Instant hot and chilled water deliver convenience, which is also a major purchase driver, particularly for tea, coffee, baby formula, and cold hydration.” Tefal’s Pure Water range uses a 5-in-1 reverse osmosis filter with remineralisation, delivering purified water while adding beneficial minerals back into the water. The filters are rated for 4,000 litres or up to 24 months of use, significantly reducing maintenance compared with many competing countertop systems. The range also

offers instant heating, precise temperature control, multiple dispensing volumes, and electric cooling for chilled water models. “Water purification is becoming part of a broader wellness lifestyle, alongside air purification and healthy cooking appliances. Consumers are increasingly willing to invest in higher-quality filtration systems that offer better performance and convenience,” he said. However, many consumers are still unfamiliar with the differences between filtration technologies and traditional RO systems are sometimes perceived as inefficient, so manufacturers must continue improving water recovery and communicating the benefits clearly, Hsu said. “The category is attracting new entrants, making differentiation through technology, design, and after-sales support increasingly important, as entry-level filtration products can often create confusion around the value of premium systems.” Despite the challenges, Hsu said the water purification category represents one of the most attractive growth opportunities in the premium small appliance market. “Consumers are actively seeking solutions that combine health, convenience, and sustainability, and retailers who invest in the category can benefit from higher average selling prices and strong attachment opportunities through filter replacements. Our recommendation is to focus on premium RO systems with hot and chilled functionality, as this is where we are seeing the strongest consumer engagement and the greatest trade-up opportunity.” AR www.applianceretailer.com.au
