Biggar RCMP release their 2018 calendar year in review Biggar RCMP have compiled statistics for the 2018 year.

Covering an extensive area, the Biggar Detachment has had, as usual, a busy year.

Of the extensive statistics compiled, we’ll concentrate on totals reported and any other highlights within, all too numerous to list. Instead, we’ll hit on the highlights.

Provincial Traffic Offences for the area had a total of 1,515 reported incidents. Of those numbers, only two were unfounded events. Topping the list of incidents were 810 Speeding Violations, with other interesting numbers being 45 Driving While Disqualified or License Suspensions, 15 Roadside Suspensions with 1 drug related Roadside Suspension.

On the Criminal Code Driving Offences (totalling 58 reported) the obvious numbers that jump out are the Impaired Operation and/or over 80 mg% with 32 reported. Two were drug related while six were Driving While Disqualified/Prohibited.

Provincial Statutes totalled 368, ranging from Liquor Act (Provincial/Territorial) - Offences Only (25) to Firearms Act (5), and other Federal Statutes (2). Topping the list were 911 Act at 128. Trespassing reported offences were 40.

Other Criminal Code totalled 83 in 2018 with Fail to Comply Probation Order high on the list at 25 and Failure to Comply With Condition or Undertaking or Recognizance, 19. Other Criminal Code covers Disturbing the Peace (6 reported), Being Lawfully at Large (1) Fail To Attend Court (3), Uttering Threats (2), to Child Pornography (1), Wilful Promotion of Hatred (1), among other categories.

Weapons Offences total 7 reported cases, of which 1 involved Explosives: Using or Possessing with

Intent to Damage/Destroy, 1 involving Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, 3 Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm/Prohibited/Restricted, 1 Unsafe Use, and 1 Unsafe Storage.

Public Safety, Financial Loss to Federal Government, Consumer Protection totalled 4 reported. Drug Enforcement totalled 32 reported, 3 of which were for trafficking purposes, while others were for possession of everything from cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, et cetera.

Sexual Assaults and Sexual Interference had 4 each reported, with Invitation to Sexual Touching, 1.

Assaults had 39 reported, Assaults with Weapon or Causing Bodily Harm, 12, Uttering Threats, 31 Property Crime totals reported were 336, ranging from Theft Under $5,000 (77), Theft Over $5,000 (9), 29 auto thefts, 98 Mischief - Damage to or Obstruct Enjoyment of Property, 26 reported Break and Enters, among other categories, all far too numerous.

Biggar RCMP reported 23 Fraud related incidents, everything from Unauthorized Use of a Computer (4), Fraud Greater Than $5,000 (1), Fraud Less Than or Equal To $5,000 (6), to Identity Fraud (7).

RCMP recorded 11 Offender Management cases (11), dealt with 28 Abandoned Vehicles, 38 Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property, 29 Animal Calls, 74 False Alarms, 30 Well-being Checks, in addition to many other incidents, cases and responses.

Although just a small, small sampling of 2018 for our area, it was a busy one for Biggar RCMP. However, they’ve made a dent in criminal activity in the area with calendar year-to-year actual reported occurrences falling from 2,737 in 2017 to 2,378 for the 2018 year.

Municipal revenue sharing to increase for 2019-20 Monday, Premier Scott Moe announced that Saskatchewan municipalities will see an overall funding increase of more than $10 million for 2019-20, bringing the total amount to $251 million next fiscal year for the municipal revenue sharing program.

The announcement was made while Premier Moe addressed the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) at their Annual General Meeting, February 4.

The additional $10 mil-

lion in 2019-20 represents a four per cent increase from the current fiscal year, following a review of the program and consultation with municipal stakeholders that began in 2018 and resulted in a new predictable, sustainable and transparent formula.

“Municipalities across Saskatchewan will continue to have a consistent source of unconditional provincial revenue to invest in their local priorities,” Moe said. “The adjusted revenue shar-

ing formula recognizes our current fiscal reality, evolves this key provincial program, and retains the fundamental qualities of predictability, sustainability and transparency.”

The municipal revenue sharing formula will now be based on three quarters of one point of the provincial sales tax (PST) revenue collected from the fiscal year two years prior to the current year.

“SUMA is pleased that today Premier Scott Moe announced munici-

pal revenue sharing will increase to $251 million for 2019-20,” Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association President Gordon Barnhart said.

“Through extensive consultation with the government, we believe the adjustments to this program will be a benefit to all of our members. We are also happy to see the continued commitment to stable and predictable funding, something that our municipalities appreciate and count on.”

“We appreciated the

opportunity to provide input around revenue sharing consultations,” Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities President Ray Orb said. “Having predictable funding on an annual basis only benefits our members when it comes to planning for the future.

“New North is happy that the provincial government is increasing municipal revenue sharing this year,” New North Chair Bruce Fidler said.

Nutrien can make a lasting difference with an innovative approach In recent months one of the largest corporate entities in Saskatchewan and the province have been at loggerheads. Although Saskatoon is still listed as the head office of Nutrien there were some vacant CEO offices.

That did change with the appointment of CEOs but business leaders and government officials were still not satisfied and engaged in talks with the company. Of note was the fact that when a head office is located in a community, there is a certain expectation of philanthropy.

Since then Nutrien has lent its name as title sponsor to Nutrien Wintershines and the Children’s Discovery Museum will now be known as Nutrien Wonderhub. Both notable causes and both deserving. But, it is hoped that Nutrien will not fall into the rut of only sponsoring events in the two major cities -- Saskatoon and Regina.

Company officials should keep in mind the fact that their clients, for the most part, are located in rural communities in the province. The ag sector factors prominently into the company profits.

There are many worthwhile projects in rural Saskatchewan that could benefit from a bit of cash. Anything from minor sports teams to arts and culture organizations. Scholarships for students. Or helping with capital projects in communities such as rinks, theatres or daycares. Community and health foundations could benefit in their fundraising. There are so many avenues Nutrien could make a difference in the lives of their clients.

For a lasting legacy consider helping to keep the history alive. One project with a personal connection involves a church that has been designated an historic site. The roof was just replaced recently through fundraising efforts but there is always something that needs to be fixed. Similarly, there are other schools, churches and historic buildings dotting the landscape of the province in the same situation. Don’t for a minute think it is only “old” people involved in these projects; rather there are a surprising number of young people who recognize the importance of preserving their past and history.

So . . . Nutrien can either fall into the path of so many other corporations and concentrate on large centres or it can put some thought and effort into the heart of Saskatchewan and really create a lasting legacy.

Canadian student performance does not reflect increases in spending

by Angela MacLeod, Senior Policy Analyst, Fraser Institute Parents across the country are concerned about the state of K-12 education in Canada. Results from standardized exams administered by several provinces and international tests such as the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) are alarming, particularly in math. There’s a pervasive myth that large cuts to education spending are responsible for the decline in

performance by Canada’s students. Yet provinces are spending more—in some cases much more—than they did only a decade ago.

In fact, as noted in a Fraser Institute recent study, in the 10-year period between 2006/07 and 2015/16, spending on public schools in Canada increased from $48.8 billion to $64.8 billion—an increase of 32.6 per cent.

At the same time, the number of K-12 students enrolled in public schools across the country declined from 5.2 million students in

2006/07 to just under 5.1 million students in 2015/16—a decrease of 1.8 per cent. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have seen an increase in the number of students enrolled in public schools but all other provinces have experienced declines.

To get a more accurate picture of the change in education spending we must take both the changes in enrolment and price levels (inflation) into account.

performance, we should see at least marginal improvements in all provinces. PISA exams, the gold standard for international testing, are administered to 15-yearold students worldwide every three years in reading, science and math. Between 2003 and 2015 (the latest year available of data) math scores declined significantly in eight out of 10 provinces (Quebec and Prince Edward Island being the only ones holding steady).

Standardized exams written in provinces such as Ontario and Alberta show similar trends, with 49 per cent of Grade 6 students in Ontario and 40.8 per cent of Grade 9 students

in Alberta falling short of the standard in math. Parents across the country have been sounding the alarm about student skills in mathematics, and they’re right to be concerned.

We owe it to young Canadians to ensure they are armed with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful and productive adults.

It’s clear something must be done about declining academic performance in Canada, and there are many options for reform. But one thing is certain—if this was a problem that could be solved by simply spending more money, it would be fixed by now.

All provinces increased per student spending with Saskatchewan having the largest increase of 36.4 per cent over the period, followed by Newfoundland (30.1 per cent). Alberta had the smallest increase of 8.1 per cent.

Saskatchewan leads the country by spending $15,314 per student in 2015/16 followed by Manitoba ($14,986).

Quebec spends the least, at $10,992 per student.

Fortune cookie fortunes need to revisit roots Something very wrong has happened to the fortunes in fortune cookies.

They have become dull, boring and are simply missing their mark.

Some background: the staff decided to go for lunch one day and chose the local Chinese restaurant because it has a buffet a noon. One of the most delightful things about Chinese food is the number of choices to be had and there is no better way than a buffet.

At the end of every Chinese meal, you are given a fortune cookie. Even though, many do not eat them, they are opened just in anticipation of reading your fortune. So, when your slip of paper fails to deliver it is a huge disappointment. “You are acutely sensitive to your environment.�

Really! That is not a fortune. It creates no sense of excitement.

What, Eh? Sometimes I used to laugh when I was talking to old Bill!

“Oh, hello Bill. It’s sure a nice day, eh?”

“Yes,” he’d reply. “And she’s got two sisters at home just as beautiful!”

Nuff said, eh? Now it is my turn!

Y.T. used to make a little fun of it when he first noticed he didn’t hear too well! He used to make wise cracks and comments like this: “It depends whether you hand me a broom or a twenty dollar bill!”

That usually didn’t work too well though, and Y.T. ended up sweeping out the porch anyway! Now that we’ve gone, they have cut down those darn elms anyway!

For years I usually felt quite capable of driving, even to golf, but over time even that became kind of risky, and often Jim drove me down for coffee. He even drove me to “Weasies” at Biggar where a few of us gathered, coffee in hand!

We tried to solve the world situation. Most

of us have disappeared and the world “situation” seems to have gone to pot anyway!

Do you know what a cup of coffee costs at Biggar when you drove the 20 miles from Perdue? By the time you pay the driver, and coffee too... Goodbye twenty bucks, eh!

I was lucky though when my left leg fell off – well it sure felt like it!

And so here we are, eh.

Installed in the Biggar Health Centre where hearing isn’t the top priority. Often I just sit there and talk to myself – it’s the only familiar voice I can hear anyway!

Often I feel that I should

get a little chip from that “talking stone” at the No. 3 golf hole at Perdue – we must have a few memories of the hills!

Oh well!

I’ve got a lot of memories, eh?

In the last few years my eyesight has failed a little, too!

Y.T. had fairly good eyesight until a few years ago. I like to tell the tale of little Alvin who came and sat with me once and helped me goal judge. Alvin was only 5 years old and a relation.

room. Having just put on my new glasses he kept looking up at me and mebbe wondering why I looked different!

After awhile I asked him: “Alvin,” I said. “These glasses are so good that I can see that fly on the wall at the far end of the rink.”

It was in February, but little Alvin looked anyway.

“Alvin,” I said. “That is a female fly. I can tell by the way it walks. That is how good these glasses are!”

Alvin looked down the rink again, then he looked at me, walked away and hasn’t spoken to me since!

I sometimes wonder about this glaucoma thing that they say has ruined my eyes!

During World War II the cross-eyed enemy sniper did a good job of

missing me and I kind of wonder why! He did however take great joy in filling my radio full of holes as I lay sprawled underneath it. Come to think of it, Y.T. could have saved the government a lot of money if I had put the radio down and laid on top of it!

Heck! I never thought of that!

Now it is my turn as I mentioned above!

As far as I can see (and that’s not very far lately), this column may be part of the past!

So much of trade is influenced by other economic sectors which when looked at in isolation are good for a particular area of trade, but when you zoom out to look at the overall impact, it might not be as positive across a broader range of trade.

While the changes are modest, if it were to become a trend, Alberta and Saskatchewan could benefit significant on the oil side. We don’t seem to be on any path that will get us to $100/barrel oil, but even a jump of $10 would be big for the sector.

Trotz working magic for Islanders Take Connor McDavid off the roster of the Edmonton Oilers and things could get uglier in Edmonton. Remove Nikita Kucherov from Tampa Bay and the Lightning might fall back into the pack in the National Hockey League.

Make Sidney Crosby an ex-Penguin and Pittsburgh might not even make the playoffs.

So it’s somewhat astonishing that the New York Islanders, a team that didn’t even make the playoffs last year, are in first place in the Metropolitan Division after losing their (by far) best player, John Tavares, to free agency last summer.

On Groundhog Day they stood second overall in the Eastern Conference after finishing 11th last season.

So let’s cut to the chase: Islanders’ bench boss Barry Trotz is this year’s Coach of the Year. He also may be a miracle worker.

Trotz, a Dauphin, Manitoba, native, is the rare coach who wins a Stanley Cup, as he did with Washington last season, and is not signed to a new contract. Trotz was making only $1.5 million with the Capitals and management there showed little interest in making him wealthier, Cup or no Cup. So he quit. Within four days he had signed with the Islanders for a reported $4 million per season.

So far, it appears to be money well spent. The Islanders’ performance this year stands as testimony to his skills as a coach.

Instead of the Islanders looking to Tavares to carry the team, Trotz has a committee of lesser stars banding together to handle the offence. Last season’s rookie of the year Mathew Barzal had 45 points at the all-star break to lead the team, while Anders Lee, Josh Bailey, Brock Nelson and Jordan Eberle follow.

Lee leads the team with eight power play goals and Eberle, the former Oiler, has five. Thomas Griess and Robin Lehner, not exactly Marty Brodeur and Patrick Roy, have been stellar, splitting the goaltending chores and stopping shots at an average .925 clip.

“Every night we have a

Blazer Basketball Report Senior Boys The Senior Boys had a good week. Friday/Saturday February 1/2 they travelled to Outlook to the LCBI tournament. The boys were ready to play.

They started the tournament by beating the Eatonia Spartans Friday night.

On Saturday the Blazers lost to a very tough LCBI Bisons squad. Then the boys played in third place game where they beat the Rossignol Huskies.

A third place finish in a very good tournament.

Junior Boys In the first game of the St. Gabriel’s Junior Boys Basketball Tournament, the Rosetown Royals beat the Biggar Blazers by a score of 40 to 28. The leading scorer for Biggar was Johndrey Tuico with 14 points. In the second game, Rosetown beat the St. Gabriel’s Saints by a score of 59 to 25. The leading scorer for St. Gabriel’s was Angel Rei Dalisay with 9 points.

Junior Girls The junior girls are having fun and showing huge improvements.

They have shown hard work and dedication with after school practices and mornings in the gym. This past weekend we traveled to Rosetown and the girls showed a lot of grit against new competition Elizabeth and Outlook. The junior girls stayed strong on their defense and continued to give both competitors a run for their money. They finished the tournament with a win over Rosetown. They played Rosetown and St. Gabriels on Tuesday, February 5 for sectional in Biggar.

There is always something happening at the museum!

Volunteers got together and hung the Student Art Exhibition! The teachers from both schools turned in an assortment of art projects from their students.

We have art from Kindergarten to Grade 12!

It’s all very colourful!

The walls are festooned with art, and we are getting ready for the great Valentine’ Day Pie Sale‌. yum! There is nothing like a fresh piece of homemade pie with a cup of tea or coffee to share with your Valentine.

Since September we have had the pleasure of having two young ladies from BCS200 coming in every Thursday afternoon and helping out here at the museum. Tara Gidluck

was one of these ladies.

Tara is switching out with another BCS student for the rest of the year. We are looking forward to

ranged exhibit displays, hung art exhibits, and did all kinds of labelling, found artifacts in storage, dusted, cleaned and hung

Our last art exhibit, “Being One with the Earth� was well attended by our students. Despite the frigid temperatures, the teachers from both schools got their students down to the museum to check out the art, and learn a little bit more history of Biggar.

It has a search bar, and there is all kinds of information on it‌ family history, businesses in Biggar over the century, graduation classes, et cetera.

Looking through the Historical Timeline, we have here in the gift shop, I discovered that in February 1956 there was one family that were really, really busy! The headline read, “Triplets Born in Biggarâ€?‌ to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bitner, two boys and one girl. The Bitners live on a farm three miles from Biggar, the couple already have seven children!

Well, seems the polar vortex will be with us all for a while yet, stay warm, stretch before you shovel, and rest assured that winter does not last forever!

Our BCS volunteers do all sorts of odd jobs around the museum every Thursday afternoon. Tara Gidluck, on the left, will be switching places with another student for the rest of the school year. Haley Pritchard will be staying on, and for this we are grateful.

One of my pet peeves is trying to make dinner reservations on an evening when 90 per cent of the general population is also trying to attain the Chef Dez same goal.

You may be able to perform this feat without pulling out your hair.

However, if bustling crowds and hurried serving staff is not your idea of romance, one can easily create this setting in the comfort of your home.

Staying in for a romantic dinner can be accomplished with little effort and some creative planning. To achieve this successfully, we will focus on three areas: the menu, the table setting, and the room environment.

The menu you decide on does not have to be complicated, however it should be meaningful. Your effort should reflect the compassion you have for this person.

The first thought that comes to mind is to prepare their favourite food. If this is a dish that you cannot prepare at home then have it ordered in or pre-purchase parts of it ahead of time to ease your preparation. It’s acceptable to not have

everything prepared from scratch if it is beyond your means and capability.

Your thoughtfulness is the most meaningful ingredient.

Add extra simple courses, rather than just having a main course and dessert. Once again this does not have to be perplexing. A fresh pile of mixed colourful greens with a good dressing makes a great salad course.

A few pieces of unique cheeses with some grapes and a small glass of wine make another delicious course.

All of the elements to make these extra courses can be purchased direct from the store and assembled together to ease your preparation.

Now you can express to your Sweetheart that you made them a “four course romantic dinner”.

An example of a quick enchanting dessert would be chocolate covered strawberries.

The table setting is very important and should harmonize with the mood you are trying to establish.

Candles are a must, but there are other things you can do to make it memorable. Silk rose petals or heart-shaped confetti scattered on the table is a nice touch. Compliment that with red cloth napkins and a love letter tied up with a ribbon, and you will have them swooning. Make sure you have enough pieces of cutlery set to accommodate each course and

Dear Chef Dez: I want to make chocolate covered strawberries for dessert for a Valentine’s dinner, but the last time I tried making them it was a disaster.

Even though I took them out of the refrigerator ahead of time, the chocolate was still too hard and it broke off the berries with the first bite and fell onto the plate. What am I doing wrong?

Chris D. Abbotsford, B.C. Dear Chris: When melting your chocolate for dipping, melt butter in with the chocolate as well. Room temperature butter is much softer than room temperature chocolate, and thus will create a more palatable bite and will adhere to the berries. I normally add 50 per cent of the weight of chocolate being used with butter. For example, if you are melting four ounces of chocolate, then also melt in two ounces of butter.

by Paula Shortt Dylan Smith is 25-yearsold and grew up playing hockey in Big River, Saskatchewan.

From there, he went on to play AA Peewee and Bantam in Shellbrook, AAA Midget in Beardy, Saskatchewan for two years, and for his final year of Midget he played Junior A in Estevan where he stayed for three years. After that, he ventured down to the States and spent a year in Connecticut and two and a half years in New York playing hockey while going to school.

Dylan has two degrees.

One is Geophysics and one in Geological Engineering. He currently lives in Saskatoon, where he works at an engineering firm as a geophysicist.

Living in Saskatoon and playing for Biggar, means regularly com-

muting.

“I do commute. The travel is not fun, but then again, you’re not by yourself. You’re with some of the guys and that’s fun too. It’s just being on the roads in the winter time … it’s not like it’s a long drive or anything, so it’s not a big deal.”

Dylan started skating very early.

“I actually started skating when I was just 2 years old. My parents put me in Can-Skating first, and there was a figure skating show or whatever to go with can-skating where we were dressed up and I wouldn’t go on the ice unless I had a stick in my hand. So I didn’t do much canskating and I was playing hockey by the time I was three.

“I had two older brothers that were both playing. Four and three

years older than me and I guess I was a pretty competitive kid. I didn’t like them playing and I couldn’t play, and my dad was the coach and they put me on the team with my brothers.”

When it comes to hockey, Dylan’s favourite part of the sport is the connections and friendships you are able to make with other people throughout your hockey career.

He keeps in shape during the off season doing a variety of activities; skating, working out, playing lacrosse, golf, baseball.

Dylan believes that a good hockey player is

mostly comprised of a good work ethic.

“You’ve got to be hardworking. You’ve got to be stubborn in a sense. Just that you’ve got to keep going when things aren’t going great.

You have to have drive.

You have to want to push yourself. And then you have to be a good team mate and be able to look out for other people at the same time.”

This is Dylan’s first year playing with the Nationals. He comes to us fresh from playing for Rosetown last year on their AAA team. He has a few friends who currently play on the team and decided to join them this

year. He currently plays Right Wing or Center depending on the game, which are familiar positions to him, as he has played them most of his career, as he likes to play a good offensive game.

When I inquired whether there was anything Dylan thought the team should focus on, he responded: “We’ve got to work on a lot of things. We’re young.

We’ve shown that we can play with anybody, taking Wilkie to overtime the other night, but we’ve just got to be a little more disciplined.

Stay out of the penalty box. We’re good at a lot of things. We’re scoring a lot of goals, we’re offensive. But we’re younger and a lot of guys haven’t played together, so we’re growing and we’ll get really good at things as the year goes on.”

According to Dylan, he has suffered from every injury you can imagine when it comes to hockey.

Lucky for us, it hasn’t altered his love of the game or how he plays.

He enjoys being a part of the team, and says it is, “It’s a mix of older and younger guys. A lot of good guys. And it seems like the community supports them really well so it’s fun to be out so far.”

Dylan also has good things to say about the fans as well.

“They’ve been good so far. I mean, it’s really good to see the support from the town. I mean, we haven’t had that many home games but the ones we have had, we’ve had really good support for. So it’s good.

It’s really good.”

It is with deep sadness the family of Jim announce his passing on January 15, 2019, with his wife and family by his side.

Jim was born on the Homestead of James Andrew and Helen (Johns) McKay, northwest of Biggar, Sask.

He grew up there where he developed a lifelong love for the land.

He enjoyed his carefree youth with his brother, Bob, hunting and trapping, riding horses bareback; skating with his three sisters and Bob on Dinner Lake beside the yard, where he could outskate anyone forward or backwards. He was also a crack shot with his 22 rifle. He attended Curthshill School until he was 15 years old when his father became ill and he took over working the land with horses and plow, and discer then seeding with a drill also looking after the cattle and other livestock.

He helped his mother with the garden, milking cows, providing the wood for cooking and heating. Even the day long trips to Wilson Lake for loads of wood

in mid-winter, with horses and sleigh. Some trip were overnight following Uncle Victor, he enjoyed having his brother Bob along when he could. He told of frozen sandwiches and frozen toes. Then trips to Lett elevator for coal that was shovelled onto the sleigh by hand.

He was driving the Model A Ford by the age of 14, going to the Oban Store for the mail and groceries. In the winter, some trips were made with a team of horses and sleigh to Oban to board the train to Biggar.

Jim worked many jobs, mostly on farms. In 1952, Jim worked as rodman for the surveyors on the new construction of No. 4 highway to Rosetown.

He bought his first new Chevy 1/2 ton. He was also attracted to a young girl he saw in the Excell Cafe. It was love at first sight. He asked to take her to a movie, the start of a serious 2 year friendship.

Jim and Annette were married don August 20, 1954 at the Church of God in Biggar.

After working in

town for two years, they moved to the farm and started their family of four.

Jim had a loving nature and a quick wit that endeared him to those who knew him.

Jim bought the first half section of land in 1955. They purchased the Homestead, a half section in 1964 and more land as years went by, some with many acres of prairie that Jim worked hard to get into cultivation. He also had cattle, hogs and other animals that were well attended to.

With his wife and children, the farmstead grew.

In 2010, they were honoured to receive the 100 year Heritage Award as a second generation to farm since the homestead was purchased. Jim felt very blessed and proud of this achievement.

Jim loved farming and his family. He also loved every person who joined the family.

He deeply loved the grandchildren spending time

Verna truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting and visiting with friends and family, cooking, gardening and spending time with her granddaughter who was so close by. She liked nothing better than a family reunion, picnic or milestone birthday celebration.

As per Verna’s wishes, a family

celebration of life will be held in Biggar, Sask. at a later date.

BCS Bookworms enjoy a good tome The goal of our BCS 2000 Grade 1 to 3 book club was to make reading fun and exciting!

In addition to making children excited about reading we also worked on rhyming skills, reading and comprehension skills. Speaking and listening activities, including role play, were also explored! The books we enjoyed together were written by Phoebe Gilman. Her style of writing was enjoyed by all our little members!
