The creepiest place in town, Tuesday was the Wheatland Lionel A. Jones Library. Wee ghouls, ghosts, princesses, heroes and whimsical characters, came to the library for a “Monster Mash”, a fun afternoon of stories, crafts and fun.

Throne Speech outlines commitment to stand up for Saskatchewan The new session of the Legislature opened October 24 with a Throne Speech focusing on the government’s commitment to stand up for Saskatchewan people.

“While our economy and the province’s finances are showing signs of improvement, we are still facing challenges due to the threat of a damaging federal carbon tax, continued sanctions from the United States on our steel and uranium industries, and a deeply discounted price for our oil caused by a lack of pipelines,” Premier Scott Moe said. “This Throne Speech outlines our commitment to stand up for Saskatchewan by growing our economy and continuing to deliver important programs and services for the people of the province.”

The Throne Speech outlined the government’s plan to: • Deliver a balanced budget for 2019-20; • Stand up for Saskatchewan communities, families and businesses by challenging the ineffective

and harmful federal carbon tax in court; • Implement the Prairie Resilience Climate Change Strategy and introduce legislation to establish intensity-based performance standards for large emitters; • Complete the new 284 bed, state-of-the-art Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford to help those facing significant mental health needs; • Continue to improve response times and enhance officer visibility in rural Saskatchewan through the Protection and Response Team (PRT), which has seen conservation officers and highway patrol officers assist with more than 1,300 PRT-related actions since April; • Become the first province in Canada with Clare’s Law – legislation designed to provide a framework for police services to disclose information about someone’s violent or abusive past to intimate partners who may be at risk; • Expand interpersonal violence leave to include sexual violence of any

Dear Editor: Sunday, October 28, our church held its annual fall supper at the Biggar Community Hall.

Imagine our dismay when we arrived at the hall, 9 o’clock that morning to discover that among other things, half of the ovens were unusable that day.

This is not good news when you are preparing to feed four hundred plus people. We have gone to the town administrator before with various issues and have had little or no satisfaction.

To all the people who attended our supper we appreciate it and we apologize if everything wasn’t great. We did the best we could under very trying conditions.

The CPTPP trade deal offers a different path to China

by Carlo Dade, director of the Trade & Investment Centre at the Canada West Foundation While Canada debates the hand it was dealt in the United StatesMexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) – the new NAFTA – a sudden, quiet development out of China is a reminder that Canada has options when it comes to trade.

This week, the news out of China is that Beijing is looking to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as a hedge against U.S. attempts to isolate the Asian superpower.

Whether it’s a negotiating ploy or a serious overture, the move to join the colossal multilateral trade agreement – the resurrected version of a deal that Donald

Trump promptly backed out of when he became U.S. President – is a clear signal for the Canadian government and the country’s private sector that, almost 25 years after the North American free-trade agreement was created, the world is a different place and Canada is no longer as beholden to the United States.

The USMCA is in fact only one of three NAFTAlike agreements to which Canada is a party, the other two being the CanadaEuropean Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the soon-to-beratified CPTPP. In each of the three multilateral trade deals, Canadian firms have one set of rules to enable not only buying and selling in other markets, but also building supply and production chains to take

full advantage of specializations within each market to assemble goods and services and sell seamlessly to the entire amalgamated collection of markets in the agreement. This was the initial breakthrough of the first NAFTA agreement.

But newer agreements such as CETA and the CPTPP have built on and improved upon the original NAFTA model.

The renegotiated North American treaty, on the other hand, brings only minor tweaks to the original agreement, essentially maintaining the status quo. As such, by staying still in a world where others are advancing, it is a step backward in ambition and liberalization.

Think of CETA and the CPTPP as Windows 10 and the USMCA as updating from Windows 95 to Windows 97.

The Wall Street

Journal has been even less kind, calling the new agreement worse than the original.

But having three “NAFTAs” gives Canada options for better trade arrangements and also for engaging with China.

The USMCA contains language meant to pressure Canada into a U.S.-CanadaMexico alliance on negotiating with China. Part of the rationale for Canada accepting this is a lesson it learned from negotiating the CPTPP: Canada does better in trade negotiations with larger economies if it negotiates as part of a bloc containing other larger economies.

In the original Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, when the United

China, of course, has not been a fan of the CPTPP and would have to make serious concessions to join, but what looked inconceivable now seems possible thanks to escalating U.S. hostility and blatant attempts to isolate China.

China joining the CPTPP should not run afoul of language in the USMCA – it would be neither a bilateral negotiation nor a new negotiation, as Canada is on track to ratify the CPTPP before ratifying the new North American agreement. If the United States had

wanted to prevent this, there should have been specific language in the USMCA. Regardless, for Canada, a CPTPP that includes China would produce a better, more ambitious and modern trade arrangement than anything the current U.S. administration would negotiate.

Negotiating alongside global leaders in getting good trade deals such as Singapore, New Zealand and Chile will get Canadian businesses a better deal with China than negotiating alongside the Trump

administration.

And by next year, the CPTPP should grow to include at least South Korea, Colombia and Thailand, which, added to the economic weight of Japan, Canada, Mexico and Australia, will make an even better negotiating bloc. This path to engage China has obvious difficulties, but it is attractive.

Having three NAFTA-style agreements gives Canada options.

Business and government need to look at the entire table and think about how to play the hand we have been dealt.

The United States has a number of reasons to want North America to negotiate together, particularly because negotiating with China as a bloc is better for everyone.

The Americans are correct, but what they have missed is that, unlike the United States, Canada and Mexico have those “other NAFTAs,” including the CPTPP, which is a better entrée into a trade agreement with China.

Anniversary of that famous gunfight at the OK Corral television series and has put the town of Tombstone, Arizona on the map.

It all started with the discovery of silver in 1877 which caused a boom in Tombstone and the town quickly grew into one of the richest mining towns.

Wyatt Earp a former Kansas police officer; Virgil, the town Peggy Hasein marshall and Morgan represented “law and order� at that time. We like these heroes who are portrayed as the “good guys� but historians say they had reputations as being power hungry and ruthless.

McLaurys were cowboys living on a ranch outside of town. They were portrayed as cattle rustlers, thieves and murderers. A struggle was sure to break out between these two groups who both wanted to control Tombstone as well as the surrounding county of Cochise.

With all the tensions it was no wonder that a gunfight would break out.

Ike Clanton and Tom McLaury came to town the morning of Oct. 25 and during the next 24 hours there were several violent run-ins with the Earps and Holliday. On Oct. 26, Billy Clanton (Ike’s brother), Frank McLaury and Billy Claiborne rode into town.

The first stop was the saloon where Doc Holliday took delight in informing them that their brothers had been “pistol whipped� by the Earps. Those were fightin’ words and Frank and Billy vowed revenge.

At 3 p.m. the Earps and Holliday spotted five members of the ClantonMcLaury gang behind the OK Corral. For all the build up and the scenes that have been written and filmed the actual gunfight took 30 seconds and 30 shots were fired.

The debate still continues as to who fired the first shot but most reports say Virgil Earp pulled out his revolver and shot Billy Clanton in the chest. Doc Holliday fired a shotgun at Tom McLaury and hit him in the chest. Wyatt Earp wounded Frank McLaury in the stomach.

When the dust cleared Billy Clanton and the McLaury brothers were dead. Virgil and Morgan Earp and Doc Holliday were wounded. Ike and Claiborne headed for the hills.

Cochise County Sheriff John Behan charged the Earps and Holliday with murder but a month later the judge found

the men not guilty ruling that “they were fully justified in committing these homicides�.

This has become one of the most famous shoot-

outs in “wild west� history. Movie makers have come up with many renditions of the scene. Doc Holliday and the Earps are always the heroes.

Every month has some history attached to it.

For example, on the first day of October in 1971 Walt Disney World opened in Florida. It was larger giving visitors four worlds to visit. In 1915 on October 23 women marched in New York City demanding the right to vote.

October 26 stands out.

On that day in 1881 the Gunfight at the OK Corral took place. Wyatt Earp and his two brothers, along with friend Doc Holliday, faced off against the Clanton gang.

This legendary shootout has been documented many, many times throughout history. The famous scene has been featured in movies and

Quiet week at New Horizons It’s been a quiet week, relatively speaking, for our centre.

Five card players showed up on Friday, October 19. They took turns sitting out and had a fun afternoon. There were just four players for Monday Kaiser so they had another fun afternoon and no prizes were given out.

The morning of Thursday, October 25 found our driver, Ross Westman, as lonely as the fabled Maytag repair man, with no calls for his services. Things picked up in the afternoon when public health conducted the first of two flu clinics in our hall. The courtesy car logged eight trips between 1 and 2 p.m. and finished with a respectable 16 trips.

We had planned to hold our regular bingo that same afternoon using the downstairs meeting room but had a scarcity of bingo players so just had a visit.

Gail Herzberg reports that she has confirmation from 10 crafters for the upcoming craft fair. There is room for more.

It’s a long, long time from May to November But the days seem short -- when we reach September And these few hours that I spend with you Help an awful lot, to make my dreams come true.

So, time flies eh? And

The Pensive Patio #3 here we sit a floppy hat and all, thinking about yesterday.

This is a memory about two men that I hardly ever knew . . . read on.

These men don’t have their names jotted in the book of names that used to be above my

desk. One was a diplomat, I think, the other, more importantly, was a typical Canadian soldier along this side of Bing Coughlin, “Herbie”. I forget the name of the then popular political type; let’s call him Gus. But first, the reason that Yours Truly remembers them.

When the war in Europe was over, it was still going on in the Pacific area, and the Army wanted to form what was known as the Far East Force.

Many Canadians soldiers joined up in it.

We were flown back to England and gathered to be sent home, except for the Aldeshot Riot and eventually we were to be sent home on the Queen

We were sitting around Europe waiting when they decided to give us some idea what to expect of the Japanese forces against us when a young corporal (swagger stick and all) strode into the room.

The weather was kind of cool so he had on an immense great coat. Y.T. couldn’t help but tell the rest of the boys: “When a Jap soldier sees that big swagger stick, they will surrender right away.”

The young corporal heard me and turned to the rest of the class: “There’s one smart alec in every group”.

Scene: The steps of the Legislative building in Regina. The General (with red all over his uniform) looked over my shoulder and said: “Private Mason. By the power invested in me by His Majesty the King, I hereby grant you with this token of his esteem.”

Pretty high compliment, eh? And Y.T. took it as that.

I bowed a little bit and stepped back a bit. It was a real honour and Yours Truly felt real

proud to shake the hand of this man he had never seen before. The crowd applauded, and I knew that I had just shaken the hand of Canada’s recently appointed Governor General.

The applause gradually faded. The man’s aide stepped forward and told me what to do. But as Y.T. turned away, suddenly a voice from the back of the crowd rang out: “There’s one smart

alec in every crowd.”

I had never knowingly met either of these men before. Surely they were not in my “book of names” above my desk.

I casually waved toward the crowd.

Before me stood one of the most famous men in all of Canada, but the voice from the back of the crowd was the voice of a muddy private soldier as he staggered out from three days in the forest.

Who does one respect most?

As Y.T. wandered away from that crowd in front of the Saskatchewan Legislature, he wondered . . .

It was in July that, with full battle dress, I stepped down from that dias, so long ago, and started home. The trains were wrong, so I walked.

Forty cars passed me and none of them even slowed down.

Finally one stopped but it was going the wrong way. It did however have an old army friend in it and we stopped and talked for awhile and then on Y.T. went . . . still wondering.

Biggar and District Music Festival celebrated 90 years of music festivals from March 5-10.

Biggar was part of the very first district festival in Saskatchewan at Unity in 1926. Then it became one of several rotating festivals which included Eston, Kerrobert, Kindersley, Luseland, Rosetown, Unity and Wilkie.

Finally, Biggar decided it was time to hold it own festival in 1958. It

began as a two-day event with a general adjudicator, then developed into a seven or eight day festival with four adjudicators.

In 2018, the festival welcomed three adjudicators and 186 entries, including two school band entries and seven school choral entries.

Biggar purchased its own piano in 1964, which lasted into the 1980s. A piano was then rented from Saskatoon until

a decade later when another piano was purchased.

Biggar Festival Committee organizes the annual Carol Festival in December with a noon performance of school groups and an evening performance of community choirs. Lunches are sold at the noon performance, and the Carol Festival is a fundraiser for the spring music festival.

Harvest reaching completion; some farm work still remains After multiple weeks of delay, many producers were able to return to the field and complete harvest.

Thanks to warm and dry weather last week, producers now have 92 per cent of the 2018 crop harvested, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report for the October 16 to 22 period. This is up from 82 per cent last week, but slightly behind the fiveyear (2013-17) average of 94 per cent for this time of year.

While many producers have wrapped up harvest or expect to in the coming days, the rest will need at least another week or more of warm and dry weather.

Harvest is most advanced in the southwestern region, where 97 per cent of the crop is now combined. The southeastern and northeastern regions have 95 per cent combined, the west-central region 90 per cent and the east-central region 89 per cent.

The northwest has made tremendous progress this past week and now has 82 per cent combined.

Ninety-six per cent of

barley and mustard, 94 per cent of durum, 92 per cent of spring wheat, 90 per cent of canola, 80 per cent of flax and 73 per cent of soybeans have now been combined.

Crops continue to come off tough in many areas and are being placed in dryers when available.

Little to no rainfall was reported across the province. Topsoil moisture conditions are relatively unchanged over the last few weeks. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as two per cent surplus, 65 per cent adequate, 28 per cent short and five per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 56 per cent adequate, 35 per cent short and eight per cent very short.

The majority of crop damage this past week was due to lodging, bleaching and sprouting. Geese and other wildlife continue to feed on swathed crops, while some standing crops have shelled out. Producers are completing fall work such as putting down fertilizer, working fields, fixing fences and hauling bales.

For those forgetting that effort, SaskPower and SaskEnergy took a flat percentage of utility sales within a municipality. In the case of SaskPower, the payments-inlieu were provided to 13 cities.

In the case of SaskEnergy, there are 97 municipalities, including those 13 cities, which received the payments.

The program dated back to the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s, when SaskPower was amalgamating electrical distribution systems in the province, municipalities also gave up their right to establish any natural gas distribution systems. A number of agreements were entered into for the Crowns to provide pay-

ments to compensate municipalities for lost revenue.

But apparently the federal initiative is worth fighting in the courts, even if municipal governments weren’t afforded that same right for grants-in-lieu.

Agriculture producer groups are also fearful of the carbon tax. The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association came out recently suggesting it is “unconvinced that a carbon pricing policy would make any meaningful reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions looking at the experience of other provinces and countries because it is economically inefficient,” according to an SSGA release.

“Despite these rebates and exemptions, produc-

In addition to fuel, producers use goods and services like feed and inputs from other sectors which are expected to pass down their added expenses onto cattle producers, detailed the release.

world markets will also become more expensive because there are few fuel-efficient transport options. As a result, Canadian beef, which is produced sustainably, efficiently and with one of the smallest carbon footprints in the world, will become less competitive in the global market,” it stated.

But will it work? The answer next week.

Government Advertising in Canadian Community Newspapers

The Government of Canada has a duty to inform all Canadians about its programs, services, policies and decisions. Communication is central to the Government of Canada’s work and contributes directly to the Canadian public’s trust in their government.

The government must tailor messages to specific audiences to reach Canadians regardless of where they reside and ensure that new communications approaches are balanced with traditional methods.

In 2015/16 the government’s total media spend was $30.2 million.1 Every week in Canada, over 1,000 community newspapers circulate almost 19 million copies in key metropolitan areas, rural and remote regions, and all areas in between.2 83% of Canadians are local community newspaper readers.3 72% of Canadians want to see advertising for government programs and services in newspapers.4 Canadians trust advertising content in newspapers more than any other media.5 Less than 2% of the government’s total media spend was in community newspapers.1 34% of the government’s total media spend was online.1 24% of Canadians don’t use social media.4 Less than one in five look at any advertising on social media.4 Display ad click through rates in Canada are 0.09%.6 Of the $5.5 billion spent on internet advertising in Canada in 2016, an estimated 72% went to Google and Facebook.7 If there is a genuine will to reach ALL Canadians then there must be an investment in meaningful communication with citizens through community newspapers.

Size matters? Thanfully, it doesn’t in today’s NHL This will be a short story. More accurately, a story about short hockey players.

There’s a myth that to play and thrive in the National Hockey League one has to be a six-foot-plus bruiser, carrying 200 pounds or more on a muscular frame that bowls over opposing players on the 200-by-85-foot. ice surface.

Tell that to Johnny Gaudreau — all 5-foot-9 of him — of the Calgary Flames, whose speed and wispy frame powers his team’s offence as he regularly places among the league’’s top 20 scorers.

Try telling that to 5-foot-9 Brendan Gallagher of the Canadiens, whose reputation as one of the most rugged and well-rounded players in the league has been well earned.

Try telling that to Marcel Dionne, who played 18 years in the NHL with Los Angeles Kings and who did okay — like almost career 1,800 points — the sixth-highest total in NHL history.

When Philadelphia’s Broad Street Bullies started to dominate the NHL picture in the mid1970s, using talent combined with brute force, flying fists and, well, a healthy dose of goonery, most of the Flyers’ rivals sought to copy that method. The result was a dearth of smaller players and a couple of decades of teams using players’ height and weight as a more valuable measuring stick than goals and assists.

Thankfully, that approach has changed.

Speed as a more important tool has returned, and the smaller, swifter player who knows how to dangle with the puck has made a strong comeback in the NHL. Just check out the names of these players, all of whom are 5-foot-8 or shorter and solid, established NHL stars: Alex DeBrincat of the Hawks, Mats Zuc-

carello of the Rangers, Conor Sheary of Buffalo, Cam Atkinson of Columbus and Tyler Johnson of the Lightning.

One inch taller — statuesquelike 5-foot-9 — are the likes of scorBruce Penton ing leaders Gallagher, Gaudreau, Viktor Arvidsson of Nashville and Jonathan Marchessault of Vegas.

Even a couple of stalwart defencemen, Jared Spurgeon of Minnesota and Torey Krug of Boston, are listed as 5-foot9.

When Krug is paired with Boston team-mate Zdeno Chara, all 6-foot9, that’s truly the long and the short of it.

So that’s all there is to say: Short and sweet.

There’s room in the NHL for players of all size.

The only thing that really matters is skill.

Nats hockey news

by Paula Shortt Well, it’s that time of year again.

I know many people are bemoaning the bipolar weather we’ve been experiencing lately, but us hockey fans have been anxiously awaiting the cold and ice (in the arenas, at least).

A new hockey season is upon us, and as the Nationals get warmed up for another game year, I will be meeting with them one on one and introducing them to you. It looks to be a fine group of young men and I look forward to getting to know them better.

But, who am I? I’m a proud Hockey Mom. New to Biggar, but I’ve been sitting on the benches of arenas around British Columbia and Saskatchewan since my kids started playing hockey in 2003.

I’ve watched hockey

give them confidence in their abilities and themselves as individuals. I’ve watched them grown and learn, improve skills and support their teammates.

I’ve seen them learn that it’s the team that’s important and the people on it, not whether you win or lose. That hockey is about how you handle the victories as well as the defeats. That it’s not just the people on the ice that are important members on the team. Hockey helped my kids learn the values and attitude that I always wanted to instill in them as active members of a team and community. Now, none of my kids play on the Nationals, but hockey has won a permanent place in my heart and I’m proud and eager to share my love of the game and the people who play it.

I’m looking forward to this year from my spot

on the bench and I’m hoping you all will come out and join me.

The Nationals Support Team has already been busy in their efforts to bring the game to more people as well. They have teamed up with Viterra in Biggar and are offering season tickets for a donation of grain or canola.

The game schedules have been revamped after the completion of the exhibition games as two teams dropped out of the league. But the new schedule should be posted in all the regular spots soon. In the mean time, the first home game is Saturday. Please come out and cheer on those hard working young men on the ice. It means a lot to them to see the barn full.

December 5, 1955 - October 15, 2018 We are sorry to announce the passing of Cecil Albert Young, age 62, in his home on October 15, 2018.

Cecil was the only son of Eunice and Norman Young of Perdue, Sask. born December 5, 1955.

Cecil worked on the family farm until it was sold in 1998 and it became the Oasis Golf Course. Since then, he had suffered from several health issues which finally claimed him.

Cecil was predeceased by his father, Norman; and his grandparents.

He leaves to mourn his mother, Eunice; son, Clint (Christin) and grandchildren, Claire and Connor Norman (due Feb. 2019); and several cousins.

Interment will happen at a later date in Leney Cemetery.

Adeline Elsie GERMANN November 24, 1930 October 23, 2018 Adeline Germann, 87, passed away on October 23, 2018 in Saskatoon, Sask. after a brave struggle with cancer.

Adeline was born in Buchanan, Sask. on November 24, 1930. In 1949, she married Walter Germann of Bienfait, Sask. In 1955, they settled in Landis, Sask. which became Adeline’s cherished home. Here she raised her family and was active in the community, occupying roles in the Coop Woman’s Guild, the Home and School Association, and the Landis Curling Club. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Wilkie Golf Club for over four decades.

She especially enjoyed dancing. She was a member of the Ruthilda Grand Squares for forty-one years and active with the Landis Fun Time Dance Club.

Adeline valued education and helped provide resources to her children and grandchildren to help them pursue studies. Adeline’s generous, strong, and fun-loving character will be missed by family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Pauline Fullawka, Julius Slogocki; and her husband, Wally Germann.

Adeline is survived by her brothers, Florian, Claude; her children, Gwen; Gerald (Marguerite Reinhart); Patti; her grandchildren, Terry (Jason Huck); Tamara; Andrea (Angus Grant); Deryk (Virginia Scissons); Lysanne (Jeff Gaudet); Emily; eleven great-grandchildren, London, Jade, Copper, Raven, Chester, Edison, Jack, Kohen, Oliver, Auston, Daxston.

Helping you bring dinner to the table more easily Let’s admit it: no matter what time of the year it is, we all seem to lead very busy lives and it becomes an excuse frequently to not cook from scratch.

Having some quick and easy meal ideas in our home menu repertoires can make a world of difference when it come to the stress level of preparing dinner.

Our society is bombarded with artificial solutions to our hectic lives, such as fast food restaurants and premade, prepackaged meals. It is a sad state of reality when quick and nutritious meals are only an idea away. Yes, some planning needs to be involved, but it is not as challenging as one may first think. Furthermore, the more you do it, the better and faster you will become at it.

Slow cookers are the most obvious answer and many recipes can be found on the internet, your local library, or even in the cookbook collection you already have.

I was astounded when I first saw a commercial recently that advertised a prepackaged slow-cooker meal: a frozen one that is easily emptied from the bag into your crock pot. Yes, this is still better than deep fried fast-food, but it is basic cooking and not only is it costing you a fortune in comparison to mak-

ing it yourself, you also have no control of any preservatives that may be included.

Casseroles are another resolution and very popular with kids.

Again, this requires some planning, but the most time efficient method would be to prepare two or three casseroles of the same dish Chef Dez at once.

This would allow you to freeze the extra meals for an even quicker solution to your busiest evenings. Other dishes that could fall under this same category would be meatloaves, lasagna, shepherd’s pies, cabbage rolls, et cetera.

For dishes like this that are to be made in abundance and kept frozen, find the day of the week that works best for you, like a Sunday afternoon for example.

A common practice in our household is to barbecue up a bunch of meat on Sunday night.

This will then be not only our Sunday dinner, but also leftover meat to use in different applications for the busier weekdays ahead of us. We will transform these leftovers into stir-frys, hot sandwiches, hearty soups/ stews, pizzas, et ceterav. as the most time-consuming part (the meat) is done already. Food is not only an avenue to keep us alive, but it is an opportunity to celebrate

Such gatherings are almost always over dinner, lunch or coffee and a treat. Food is life in so many ways; nutrition, building relationships, pleasure from flavours, etc, and the first thing we need to change is our vision when it comes to food and cooking.

Look for the negatives in anything and you will find them. Look for the positives and your perception will change. Yes, my opinion is obviously biased, but what would you rather do: have pride in making (and eating) a great meal, or clean your carpet?

Dear Chef Dez: I like the taste of garlic in different dishes, however when I add it to a stir-fry it always adds a bitter flavour. What am I doing wrong?

Sincerely, John D. Abbotsford, BC Dear John: If this is the only time you experience a bitter flavour from the addition of garlic to a recipe, I suspect that it is getting burned. Garlic burns very easily,

especially if added to the extreme temperature in “wok cooking�. To avoid this problem in the future, always add a different vegetable first to

the hot wok to temper it a little before adding the garlic.

A feast fit for a school!

Biggar Central School Grade 1 class recently held their annual Stone Soup Feast. The kids had a great time preparing the meal, getting a bit of help from Grade 6 students in decorating and setting up for the day.
