The wind is a blowin’ and Springwater Lake was a blustery state not like the ocean, but still a mess with the recent winds. Spring is upon us and the recreation area is still awaiting warmer climes. The water is still a muddy mess but, let’s face it, this is really a big slough - wonderful as it is! With the hotter days ahead, it will be used for a bit of fun, of that we can be sure!

Biggar Hospital ER to reopen in June

Town of Biggar Council Minutes Council Minute highlights The regular meeting of Biggar Town Council was held May 5, at 7:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Attending the meeting were Mayor Ray Sadler, Aldermen Alan Boyle, Kirk Sherbino, and Edward Young.

Council resolved that the minutes of the May 4 Regular Meeting of the Biggar and District Recreation Board be accepted as presented and that the recommendations contained therein be approved by Council.

Council resolved that the Recreation Director’s Report for the month of April be accepted as submitted by the Recreation Director, Erin Poitras.

Council resolved that the Fire Chief’s Report for the month of April be accepted as presented by the Fire Chief, Gerry Besse.

Council resolved that the Community Development Officer’s Report up to May 5 be accepted as submitted by the Community Development Officer, D’Shae Bussiere.

Council resolved that the General Accounts Paid in the amount of $111,020.32 and the General Accounts Payable in the amount of $44,046.18, be approved.

Council resolved that the following financial reports for April 2020 be accepted as presented: Bank Reconciliation; Statement of Financial Activities.

Council resolved that the following correspondence be accepted for Council’s information and filed: PIWIK - April 2020 Report; Wheatland Regional Library - Update; SUMAssure - Fire Truck Insurance Update; Water Security Agency Waterworks Compliance Inspection; Fire Ban Notice; CN - Vegetation Compliance Inspection; Randy Weekes - Message.

Council resolved that they authorize the establishment of a cannabis retail store to be located within the limits of Biggar in accordance to the Zoning Bylaw.

Council resolved that the Water Works System Assessment (WSA) that is budgeted to be completed in 2020, be postponed until a request is made from the Minister’s Office or a requirement of the Operating Permit.

Council resolved that the Town of Biggar enter into an Easement Agreement with Sask Energy for Lot 8 Block 68 Plan 102029880.

Council resolved that approval be recommended to Community Planning for the proposed S 1/2 Section 8-36-14-W3M and NE !/4 Section 5-36-14-W3M, proposed Parcel V - Grain Terminal Subdivision in the Town of Biggar, and furthermore, as all the land will remain zoned Future Urban Development, the subdivision conforms to the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw and the undeveloped road access to the remainder of the agriculture land will continue to be sufficient to provide access as it is unchanged in this subdivision.

Council resolved that with respect to the municipal reserve option concerning proposed Parcel V - Grain Terminal Subdivision, the Town make a monetary settlement to the dedicated lands account in the amount of $6,500 which represents five per cent of the value of the land to be subdivided.

Council resolved that the Town of Biggar enter into a Water Well Easement and Access Agreement with Viterra.

Council resolved that they review the correspondence providing for a restroom and shower building for the Biggar Regional Park.

After the outcry from communities that were facing emergency room closures, Sask Health Authority (SHA) has had a change of heart.

Biggar Hospital, one of 12 community hospitals, will temporarily convert to “Alternate Level of Care (ALC) site. Not a COVID19 hospital, Biggar will take up care for other patients to help build capacity for any potential surge in COVID-19 cases and to protect as much as possible against outbreaks in these facilities.

This included the temporary suspension of emergency services at these facilities. The SHA said Tuesday, the 12 hospitals will see their ER’s reopen mid-June.

“To ensure the SHA is balancing risks between resumption of regular service offerings at these facilities and the ability to surge to meet demand if there is an increase in COVID-19 cases, a process is being initiated to ensure these conversions occur for as short of a duration as possible,” a SHA news release stated.

Some of the criteria being used to assess the safety and readiness for reopening emergency departments in each of these locations are training of staff and physicians, cohorting of staff, and minimal prevalence of COVID-19 in the community or surrounding communities, it went on to say.

The SHA is targeting to reopen emergency

departments to previous levels of service in the following nine communities: Kerrobert, Herbert, Preeceville, Davidson, Wolseley, Arcola, Biggar, Leader and Oxbow. It is expected that the first reopening will be Arcola in mid-June, with others to follow.

“Outside of the SHA COVID-19 Readiness Plan, it is critical to remember that ongoing recruitment and retention of key health care person-

nel can always affect service delivery in smaller rural sites. This is being continuously monitored in each of these communities to ensure appropriate personnel are in place to safely resume services,” the SHA added.

Following the criteria and ensuring readiness for return to their typical service offerings will be necessary to make these facilities safe for any future surge in COVID-19 cases.

Hairdressers have been a busy group as the province slowly implements reopening measures. The shaggy province is starting to look good once again as we come closer to normal.

Biggar RCMP report

by Cpl. Dereck Crozier, Biggar Detachment, NCO IC This past week the Biggar Detachment received 42 calls for service.

This included 10 general traffic complaints, one bylaw, one suspicious vehicle, 16 tickets under the Traffic Safety Act issued.

We had one report of a hit and run on May 21, where a 2017 black Silverado had the driver side tail light broken out. If anyone remembers notic-

ing something like this happening, please give us a call.

We also received four calls for mischief and graffiti was found in the town of Biggar. If anyone

has any information on the graffiti, please call the detachment or crimestoppers.

So far our lobby remains closed, and we have not heard any word on what

phase they will have us return to normal. Case by case we are here and if you do have a matter that needs to be discussed, please give us a call from outside.

More arrests in Biggar drug trafficking bust

Police and RCMP in Regina and Saskatoon have charged six more people with drug offences in relation to the May 15 bust north of Biggar.

The trafficking in this case was taking place in Saskatoon and Regina areas.

Kurt Elliot Miller, 39, was charged. He was also charged in the original Biggar incident that resulted in the recovery of a large amount of illegal drugs and trafficking

supplies, and an RCMP officer being shot and injured.

Also charged was 41-year-old Michael Corrie Baun, 27-year-old Colten Roald Thompson, 37-year-old Krista Lee Bartlett all from Regina, 26-year-old Jordan Harkness Brown and 20-yearold Brooklyn Saint.

Thompson, a sentenced prisoner, was released in the community on a temporary basis at the time of the offence. Baun

and Bartlett were both released with a future court date while Miller was remanded into custody facing additional charges in relation to offences in the Saskatoon and Biggar areas.

Harkness Brown was also had outstanding warrants from, Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current and Brandon. Both individuals were remanded and held for court.

Letter to The Editor Dear Editor, “There are three kinds of lies . . . Lies, damned lies, and Statistics”. - Mark Twain When there is billions of dollars or politics involved, statistics are warped and contorted to sway public opinion.

Anti-gun advocates fudge facts and numbers to the max.

One example was when Bill Clinton claimed that 13 children died of gun violence everyday in America when actually it was 1.7. He had included gang-shootings!

Back in 1999 a six year old walked into a Michigan classroom with a loaded handgun and shot and killed 5 year old Kayla Robbins. The ensuing outcry had the media convinced that handguns should be banned (carcrashes are caused by cars). But the fact was that little boy who shot Kayla lived in a crackhouse run by his careercriminal uncle who had several outstanding warrants for his arrest! The boys’ father was in jail and his crack-addicted mother was out of the picture.

It is a well known fact that any country or state

that allows responsible citizens to carry a gun have far fewer incidents of random gun crimes and shootings. Britain and Australia were prime examples. Peter Worthington, in an article in the Toronto Sun, stated, “Criminals break the laws and gun laws apply only to people who don’t”.

Worthington has been an advocate for Richard Poes book; ‘The Seven Myths of Gun Control’.

That should be required reading.

A Gallup Poll back in October 2013 found that 74 per cent of Americans opposed banning handguns. They believed that if more responsible people carried a gun, most random mass shootings would have been prevented or minimized.

In his speech to the American public, Dec. 21, 2012, NRA Vice-President Wayne LaPierre made clear, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!”

Common sense.

July 16, 2001, the BBC News reported: “A new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose 40 per cent in the two years after they were

banned.” The report suggests that despite the restrictions on ownership, the use of handguns in crime is rising.

So are we the people of Canada going to lie down and let our Government take our guns? Because if we do, we will lose much much more!

Liberal gun law a crime

by Cathay Wagantall, MP Yorkton-Melville This Liberal government is not serious about reducing gun violence.

If they were, they would be going after dangerous criminals instead of targeting law-abiding firearms owners. But instead, Justin Trudeau is using the current pandemic and the immediate emotion of the horrific attack in Nova Scotia to push the Liberals’ ideological agenda and make a major firearms policy change while Parliament is not sitting.

In fact, an engagement paper by this government found that, “the vast majority of owners of handguns and of other firearms in Canada lawfully abide by requirements, and most gun crimes are not committed with legally-owned firearms.”

Moreover, “any ban of handguns or assault weapons would primarily affect legal firearms owners.”

The reality is, the vast majority of gun crimes are

committed with illegally obtained firearms. Nothing the Trudeau Liberals announced addresses this problem.

Any serious measures to make Canadians safer should not focus on punishing legal firearms owners. If should be on funding and supporting initiatives that would directly impact smuggling and illegal sales of firearms in Canada.

I side with all Canadians on the importance of supporting commonsense firearms policies that keep guns out of the hands of dangerous crim-

inals.

Why is the Prime Minister choosing to potentially spend billions of taxpayers dollars to buy back guns from honest, law-abiding citizens who continue to follow all the rules? Would a wiser decision not be to make funding police anti-gang and gun units and a CBSA Firearms Smuggling Task Force their first priority?

How about investing more in youth prevention programs, getting serious about rural crime, creating tougher sentences for violent offenders and supporting courts and

How about getting serious about increasing access to mental health and addictions treatments?

Twenty-two innocent people lost their lives in Nova Scotia at the hands of a deranged killer. Canadians are rightly upset by this horrific attack and want answers. The RCMP has made it clear that shooter did not have a firearms license, so all of his guns were illegal.

As the RCMP’s investigation unfolds we will have greater clarity on the source of his firearms.

The Prime Minister and his Minister of Public Safety need to explain why they are targeting law-abiding firearms owners when their government’s own research shows that “the data does not conclusively demonstrate that . . . handgun or assault weapon bans have led to reductions in gun violence.”

A serious plan to reduce gun violence after all, is what all Canadians want.

The snow around our place was about two-feet deep on the level and the drifts piled up a lot more!

The side roads were impassable, especially ours that had buckbrush growing on each allowance, and the main roads nearly so.

Phyllis and I were sending hatching eggs to Moose Jaw at the time, and had to take them to the railroad once every week. But because of the filled-in roads, Y.T. snowshoed and pulled huge boxes of them out to the main road on a home-

Tape Measure story: Onetime while Y.T. was working on road construction, the foreman asked me if I could fit some plywood wind breaks on the big earthmoving buggies. I asked him if I could borrow the steel-tape that he had on his belt. Reluctantly he handed it to me and said, “Sometimes when you loan stuff you don’t ever get it back!”

When I was done using it, I did give it back to Calvin Daniels him even if our name was engraved on it!

Take down that light: When we were in Europe during the war, there were usually no lights showing anywhere at night.

We were in a little busted up Dutch town in that winter of 1944-45 when our young officer sez to me one night, “There’s a light showing from that factory tower. Take it

down!”

When an officer gives you an order you darn well do it!

A half hour later, an artillery F.O.O. (Forward Observation Officer) comes along and sez, “Who took my marker light down from the factory tower?”

When Y.T. told him, “I did!” he said, “Well, put it back up!”

A few minutes later our officer sez again, “Take it down!” and Y.T. sez, “but . . . but . . .”

They’re using the same tactics in Ottawa right now!

Police apprehend robbers masked in melons

Across the country, Americans struggle to find face masks.

They’re now required by most businesses and states as a stay-at-home orders end. Consequently, those who need face masks for work are in even more dire straits.

Frontline workers, medical professionals, robbers are all scrambling to find face coverings as the public snatches up everything from N95 masks to balaclavas.

In the small American town of Louisa, two robbers, unable to work from home, got creative.

Security footage shows two men in a lifted black Toyota Tacoma arriving

at a convenience store about 9:30 at night.

They’ve both masked their identities with hollowed out watermelons over their heads.

Louisa Police Chief, Tom Leary, told CNN, “This is definitely not something you see very often in Louisa. We’re a really nice, quiet town, with a lot of hardworking people and something like this is pretty unusual.”

I’d say it’s unusual, just about anywhere; robbers in melon masks robbing a convenience store.

According to AP News, the Louisa police department put out a call to the public asking for tipsters to help identify the “MEL-

ON-HEADS”. The request bore fruit, and authorities arrested one suspect, Justin Rogers. They’ve brought an assortment of charges against him, two of which give the incident the appearance of teenage hijinks rather than the work of criminal masterminds; underage possession of alcohol and petit larceny of alcohol.

First, it’s impressive the men found watermelons that fit over their head this early in the season.

Second, you hope their decision to mask their identities with fruit means they left life-saving masks for others.

Those people working in hospitals or with the pub-

lic. One commenter on the Louisa police Facebook saw them in another store where they posed for pictures with fellow shoppers.

The other suspect remains at large, but Rogers faces up to five years in prison for the stunt. There’s no word on the men’s motive. But you can imagine their Wednesday night slamming watermelon flavored White Claw and getting crafty with their parents’ produce.

One last note, watermelons do not meet CDC guidelines for face covering.

Having watched a few stock dog competitions, and recognizing the varied movements good stock dogs have to make, and adding in the natural pasture conditions of gopher holes, bushes, mole holes and stones, I don’t expect the border collie union is sweating their jobs just yet.

That said for a fourlegged robot to have advanced to the point of going into the field is pretty amazing. Clearly the world of robotics is advancing rapidly.

What that will mean for farming is at present potentially as diverse as developers and producers can dream.

Farmers have always been rather proficient at going into their shops when faced with a farm problem and hammering out a solution with some new implement or attachment.

While farmers might not have a shop where they can build the next generation of farm robot,

they are capable of envisioning a use for robotic tech that can then be developed by others.

The potential of robotic and drone technology is going to move farming in new directions, helping deal with current issues,

and of course creating some new ones. Robots and drones require operators who know what they are doing. Those are skills workers will expect to be well-paid for, and farmers will need to compete for those workers.

Still, the farm sector has always been one which adopts new technology rather quickly, and that makes it an exciting time for producers watching what may emerge next.

Nurse reprimanded for wearing bikini under transparent PPE A nurse in Russia has been given a telling off for ‘non-compliance with the requirements of medical clothing’.

The unnamed nurse, who is in her 20s, was pictured on a coronavirus

ward for male patients in Tula, 120 miles south of Moscow, and the picture was spotted online by her bosses.

She was called in for a meeting where she said that she was too hot

Saskatchewan retail sales remain strong

Retail sales in Saskatchewan remained relatively strong compared to the rest of the country in March 2020.

While all provinces retail sales declined, Saskatchewan led the provinces month over month, with a drop of 1.5 per cent from February 2020 to March 2020. This compares to a 10 per cent decrease nationally (sea-

sonally adjusted).

“We have seen a number of these economic indicators that show the resiliency of our economy during these challenging times,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said.

“We know that COVID-19 has had a major impact on both the Canadian and global economies, but we are seeing signs

that Saskatchewan is well positioned to recover from these current challenges.”

Saskatchewan ranked third among the provinces in year over year retail sales, with a decline of 4.9 per cent from March 2019 to March 2020. The national average decline was 8.4 per cent for this period (seasonallyadjusted).

This is the moment an unwelcome avian visitor makes themselves at home in a woman’s house – before violently throwing up on the kitchen counter.

Video footage shows the seagull waltzing through a Brighton living room as seemingly terrified tenants Natalie Wattenbach, 27, and Charlotte Morley, 28, scream at it to leave.

The bird is seen waddling around to cries of ‘Get out!’ before it flies across the living room, appearing to head towards the garden door.

But it then takes a detour to the kitchen counter and begins to gag. After being sick on the work surface it flies into the garden, before eventually

being shooed away from the scene.

Recruitment worker Natalie, from Brighton, said her housemate was sick herself after seeing the ‘grim’, gloopy ricelike vomit left by ‘Steven Seagull’.

“We were on Zoom to our friends doing a quiz when it just walked in.

It’s always staring at us from the fence in the garden,” she said.

“Our whole house is white so we thought it would just walk into the toilet or something like that. We were following it about because I was worried it would steal my Love Island water bottle or do something with the bottle of champagne.”

She continued. “We were

quite drunk at the time and we were just screaming. Our friends could see it from the laptop on the table, they were trying to film it all. Charlotte ran to the toilet to be sick and I was left to clearing it up.”

The footage was filmed during lockdown, on April 12 but Natalie says the seagull has continued to look in at them since.

“We knew something would happen with that seagull. We know it’s the same one because it’s just so fat. We’ve actually nicknamed him Steven Seagull. He still sits on the fence looking in but thankfully he hasn’t come back into the house.”

Now You Can Dine Out with Dummies

Some American states are reopening this month, with adaptations to stop the spread of COVID-19 in communities.

While “Safer at Home” is the new slogan, restaurants are desperate for dine-in customers to return. Millions of restaurant employees have been out of work since March, when the virus’ devastation first became apparent. Though eager to reopen, restaurants will still have to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Among other requirements, there must be six feet of space between diners.

In other places in the world already reopened, fear of coronavirus still permeates the culture.

With servers wearing masks and getting your temperature taken at the door, an evening out just doesn’t feel the same.

Part of the bizarro-world atmosphere comes from spreading out normally

cramped together tables.

A renowned restaurant in Washington, Virginia has come up with an unorthodox way to maintain their 5-star ambiance along with social distance. At every other table they’ve placed mannequins, dressed for an evening out in the 40s.

The James Beard Awardwinning chef, Patrick O’Connell, told the AP News, “We’re all craving to gather and see other people right now. They don’t all necessarily need to be real people.”

The Inn at Little Washington, O’Connell’s restaurant, has three Michelin stars, and a whimsical sense of humor. They won’t open until later this month, per regulations from the state.

Still, they’ve already seated mannequins at half of the tables. O’Connell wanted to reduce the restaurant’s capacity by half, as required, but keep the restaurant’s upscale mood, “The solution

seemed obvious – fill it with interestingly dressed dummies.”

He’s hoping that besides keeping adequate space between guests, the dummies will, “elicit a few smiles and provide some fun photo ops.”

Across the country restaurants are adapting.

It’s become clear we’re months away from a vaccine and living with coronavirus is our new reality. Restaurants focused on takeout and delivery soon after their dining rooms shuttered. However, the revenue isn’t close to enough for most businesses to pay their bills, rent, and employees.

Now some U.S. cities are shutting down streets to provide space outdoors for restaurants to offer patio seating with the idea the outdoors are safer than enclosed spaces. Without specifics from the federal government, cities and states are on their own.

The unique “Emotional Health and Wellness Program” guides clients through modules that help identify emotions such as fear, apathy, grief, pride, anger, and more.

This program also explores themes such as self-esteem foundations, distorted thinking, fitness and nutrition, relaxation, expectations, core beliefs, human worth and assertiveness.

Through the application of this program, clients have had great success by applying the tools in this program to grow resiliency, positive self worth, forgiveness and the ability to live a healthy, drug free life.

It is Prairie Sky’s hope that they can be of service to the people of Saskatchewan at this time, as well as in the future through a continued relationship and communal sharing of support materials.

Boy, 6, cracks open robbery case by reeling in sunken safe from lake A 6-year-old boy helped crack open a nearly decade-old robbery case when he reeled in a locked safe from the bottom of a South Carolina lake.

Knox Brewer of Johns Islands South Carolina, took up “magnet fishing” and began hunting for metal objects underwater as a way to pass time during the coronavirus pandemic.

The boy was out with his family this month when the magnet attached to his line stuck to something heavy in the mud

below. With the help of a bystander, Knox pulled in and pried open what turned out to be a waterlogged lockbox containing debris-covered jewelry and credit cards, as well as a checkbook.

“I knew the right thing to do was go ahead and call the local authorities, get them involved and try to solve this mystery,” said the child’s father, Jonathan Brewer.

Authorities determined the sunken safe belonged to a woman who lived across the street from the

lake. She said it had been stolen from her home eight years ago.

While most of the expensive items had been taken, the find still turned out to be a valuable catch, according to the Brewers. They said they were able to reunite her with charms from an old bracelet.

“The first thing that she did was just kneel down, hug Knox and thanked him and thanked him for bringing that closure to her,” Jonathan Brewer said.

An Age-Old Question Waking up sore every day isn’t the best way to start your day. But, if you venture out to replace your mattress, you’ll be faced with a conundrum.

The enigma, that is more popularly known as, foam vs. spring mattress.

However, it’s not as complicated as it is made out to be. We’re here to help you figure out which mattress would be more suitable for you. To do that you’ll have to consider a few questions.

Now, foam mattresses are made from synthetic materials. These materials prolong the life of the mattress, However, it is generally higher in costs compared to most spring mattresses.

So, if your budget is of great concern, then look around to perhaps settle on a hybrid that may include foam and spring, and be affordable.

Also, financing is available. Therefore, you can go for an option that may last you over a longer time and provide greater comfort, even if the price tag is a tad higher.

Mattress firmness comes down to personal preference. Foam mattresses are known to provide a greater level of comfort, however, there are plenty of those who prefer a traditional, bouncy feel to their beds.

There are plenty of viable options in the market

in foam and spring mattresses. Thus, if you are one of those who change their mattress after regular intervals, then you should opt for a mattress that is not quite so expensive.

On the other hand, some individuals look for mattresses that have longer life spans. Spring mattresses do tend to sag after a duration of time, hence go through reviews, and compare features before making your decision.

This is of much more relevance when it comes to sleep quality. If you are a side sleeper, then foam mattresses are recommended for you. Foam mattresses provide pressure relief on the shoulders, hips, and back.

Motion isolation refers to how much movement is contained in the part of the bed it occurs. So,

you and your partner do not cause the ‘better-half’ unnecessary disturbance during sleep.

Ridiculous question, you may think? But, we assure you that it’s quite important. Your body weight determines how much you sink into the mattress, and how much pressure you put on it.

Hence, you’ll find that foam mattresses are more suitable for lighter individuals, and spring mattresses more apt for heavier people.

Foam or spring mattress is not the great mind boggler it is made out to be. All you need to do is understand your needs and match them with the most suitable product available to you.

Robot dog herds sheep in New Zealand

A U.S. engineering firm and a New Zealand software company are testing out a robotic dog’s abilities to emulate its biological counterparts with a traditional canine task: herding sheep.

Robotics company Rocos is using Spot, a robotic dog developed by Massachusetts-based Boston Dynamics, to herd sheep on New Zealand farms.

Rocos said its software allows Spot to be controlled remotely as it herds the sheep through

sometimes-difficult and mountainous terrain.

“The age of autonomous robots is upon us,” Rocos chief executive David Inggs said. “Our customers are augmenting their human workforces to automate physical processes that are often dull, dirty, or dangerous. Organizations can now design, schedule and manage inspection missions remotely.”

Boston Dynamics said its partnership with Rocos is allowing it to explore

numerous possible applications for its robots.

“We’re excited to see Rocos enabling key features for Spot and our industry partners. The industry applications we’re exploring with Rocos will see this important technology create new efficiencies for businesses around the world,” said Michael Perry, Boston Dynamics’ vice president of business development.

HOPE IN CHRIST

by Marjorie Fortney, Seventh-day Adventist Church We are currently experiencing a world that previously was unknown to many of us.

This has caused some anxiety, uncertainty, and confusion.

However, the reality of this world is we experience the good, the bad, and the ugly. Matthew 24:7 states clearly that we will experience pestilences, earthquakes, and famines in different places.

Jesus gave us hope for a better land, a better country. He made a promise.

When God makes a promise, you can know with absolute certainty He will fulfill it. In the book of John, Chapter 14:1-3, (KJV) we read the following: Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

In the book of Acts Chapter1: 9-11 we read event of the ascension of our Lord Jesus.

And when he had spoken these things while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. (KJV) The angels confirmed the promise given by Jesus in John chapter 14.In the books of Revelation God says He will make a new heaven and a new earth where there will be no more death, sorrow, pain, or crying. Chapter 21: 1, 4 . . . and then He says in verse 5, “ . . . these words are true and faithful.”

He has not abandoned His people. He is with us through His Spirit ready to help us through what ever challenges we face. He will not force His presence or His help, but He waits, respecting our freedom of choice, for an invitation.

This is an opportunity for all of us to open up the “book” and take a look.

Perhaps this is a time to ask ourselves some hard questions. What are my priorities? How much time do I spend in prayer and reading God’s Word?

Do I really know Jesus, or do I just know about Him? God’s Word, the bible, has a lot of comfort for anyone who seeks for truth and instruction. Read it form cover to cover. You will find a patient, kind, loving, and compassionate Heavenly Father who has you as His priority.

During the good times and the bad times, joy or sorrow, He is there to bring you comfort and strength, as well as instruction. However, God is not mocked. He is very merciful, but He is also just and holy.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we read the following: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

This instruction perhaps is far more reaching and life changing than the government guidelines for the current pandemic. May God bless us as we encourage each other during these trying times. Jesus instructed us to love our neighbour as ourselves. Let’s spread God’s love to our friends and neighbours.

Give nature its space this spring; Leave young wild animals alone

Spring is an exciting time for nature enthusiasts, when young animals such as ducklings, rabbits, songbirds or fawns can be viewed in their natural habitats.

However, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment wants to emphasize a simple message to well-intentioned people who want to pick up and rescue what appear to be orphaned young animals: please don’t touch them.

In nature, young animals and birds are purposely placed into seclusion by their mothers to protect them from predators. In the majority of cases, these young animals are not abandoned or deserted, and the mother is nearby watching.

The chances for survival decrease when these young animals come into contact with humans. Wildlife can also carry and transmit infectious diseases to people, such as rabies or West Nile Virus.

Only wildlife rehabilitators are licensed to care for orphaned and injured animals. They are trained to make sure animals are given appropriate care and nutrition to help improve their chances of survival when they are released back into the wild.

A young animal should only be picked up if the parent is found dead nearby, or in an unnatural situation such as a young songbird found on a doorstep. In that case, the young bird could be moved to the closest suitable habitat.

To determine if a deer fawn is orphaned, please consider these signs: • Has it been lying in the same position for more than 10 hours?

• Is it vocal?

• Is it covered in insects?

• Is it wet? Being covered by the morning dew may indicate it has been there for a prolonged period.

If there are obvious signs of injury, or evidence that it has been orphaned, please contact your local conservation officer before moving the fawn. The conservation officer will determine the best course of action for the animal.

People are also reminded to steer clear of adult wildlife, such as deer or moose that sometimes wander into urban areas. Large crowds will stress the animals, which could lead to a potentially dangerous situation.

Remember – give wildlife their space.

NHL should forget about resumption of play

Okay, it’s time to be a spoilsport.

Cancel the National Hockey League season.

The NHL should declare ‘No Stanley Cup Champion - due to pandemic’ and forget about 2019-20. Make plans to have a fresh start in October or November when the worst of COVID-19 will hopefully be in the rear-view mirror.

Playing a few regularseason games to wrap up an abbreviated regular season, followed by a modified, reduced Stanley Cup playoff schedule - all with no fans in the stands, is a contrived way to say this pandemic mess was just a little bump in the road.

We Canadians love our hockey, but we also love beautiful hot weather in July and August, when hockey fans should be golfing and fishing and camping, not watching hockey on TV. It’s all about money, of course. The owners don’t want to have to give back millions of dollars to TV networks for games not played. The players don’t want to give up a good chunk of their salaries, or to miss out on bonus clauses in their contracts. The arenas where games would normally
